This is an excellent, excellent review of the movement.

The color plates are second to none, but its overall greatest strength is the writing, which puts Impressionism in historical context. The reader will come to understand why it continues to be such an important movement today.

I received this book as my Birthday gift and ever since, I have found it to be indispensable, the reading is clear, and the author even included some interpretations of the drawings. If you like Anne Holander, Vision of Fabric, then you should consider getting this as well. Not only do I appreciate the text, I end up imitating the paintings illustrated in the book.

This book is very good! A very nice print and wonderful pictures. Quality is a need in art books and then this is an important matter to buy some. The book go through many aspects of the impressionism movement and is easy to read, I'm not an art expert and find it good to understand.

Sexually Revealing the Self!.......2002-03-27

Robert Mapplethorpe was never afraid of revealing his true self and personal sexuality to the world. He shocked many people with his "in your face" attitude. He wanted the world to realize that we're all sexual beings who shouldn't be ashamed of our bodies or sexual desires. Life is for living, and he lived it to the fullest. There have been many books published about Mapplethorpe, but this volume is a very personal collection of his black and white Polaroid photographs he took of himself in the early 1970's. They reveal the many moods of Mapplethorpe, whether he was being erotic, sexy, dark & sinister, or very innocent. It's a valuable collection of photos that verge on the edge of excitement. There are about 65 black & white self-portraits here. Some are not as clear as others due to the technology of the period.

There is a very informative essay by Richard Marshall which is an invaluable addition to this book. A nicely produced book by Arena Editions, with quality paper, printing, and design. Robert Mapplethorpe was a man who's personal beauty and good looks, only enhanced his talented life as one of our most famous photographers. A handsome addition for anyone's collection.

There are better Peanuts books out there.......2007-08-01

I remember reading and loving the paperback Fawcett collections of Peanuts comics as a child, mesmerized by the great strips in them. So I snapped this up when I saw it recently, but it's just not as good as the ones I read as a kid. Maybe my sense of humor has changed a little, but not that much. I think there have to be better collections. For one thing, although Woodstock is on the cover, he does not appear in a single strip inside. There are a few cute dated references, and Linus does have glasses, but if you buy this one and aren't thrilled, don't give up on the genre--there are better ones out there, I'm sure!

Yes, I think all of us love Snoopy. I mean, besides Lucy, have you ever heard anyone utter an unkind word about Charlie Brown's amazing canine companion? We Love You, Snoopy is, as you might expect, features Snoopy in each of its four-block, black and white comics. You'll read all about his love affair with his dog dish and food; his strong dislike for (not to mention his fear of) cats; his contemplative moments observing a falling leaf; his interaction with birds (who like to use his doghouse for their secret meetings), bees, butterflies, and the like; and plenty more. See him turn himself into a whirlydog, steal Linus' glasses (yep, Linus wore glasses back in 1962), imitate a salmon, and coerce Charlie Brown into giving him piggyback rides before bed. This book even answers the question of why dogs chase cars.

We Love You, Snoopy is actually a selection of cartoons previously published in Snoopy Come Home (which is not to be confused with the Snoopy Come Home movie book), but it's a fairly substantial book in its own right. All of these old Fawcett Crest editions of Peanuts books are just wonderful.

Old, dated, and of little use to me.......2000-08-21

The alleged "201 Killer Cover Letters" were written in 1995 according to the enclosed disk and are not very professional in my opinion. They are of little use in today's job market, again in my opinion.

The front cover claims one is able to "downplay your weaknesses" by adhering to the principles in this book. One of my weaknesses was purchasing this book in the first place.

Most useful are the "do's & don'ts" for job hunting correspondence. These along with other common sense suggestions which escape many of us can be found in this book. Having the samples in both book and diskette form is useful as it saves time. However, the samples themselves are pretty much what one can find by logging on to almost any website career site. Nothing special except the convenience of having them in one spot.

Ten Rules for Writing 201 Killer Cover Letters.......1996-10-02

What do you talk about in your resume? ME ME ME ME. What do you talk about in your interview? ME ME ME ME. So Rule 5 of Podesta and Paxton's book (Podesta is an advertising copywriter and Paxton is a recruiter), "ELIM-ME-NATE" tells you to focus on the needs of your prospective employer in your cover letter. The 9 other top rules for writing "killer" cover letters are just as enlightening as well as humorous. I do tend to disagree with Rule 3: In Response To Your Ad...NOT! - Don't use standard openings. I've actually had HR professionals request such standard openings so that they can keep track of who is applying for which ad in which newspaper. But that is the real value of this book: it shows you how to write killer openings and closings for any situation. There is an index of letters listed by issue, with a corresponding chapter and letter number to refer to. What's more, you can get through this book in a hurry, and all of the sample letters are on diskette that is included. So if your cover letters "...Ain't Working," then "...Fix It" with one of 201 different approaches (Rule 10)

Good letters for getting, keeping, refusing, and quitting jobs. It has its own PC diskette, so that it is not necessary to retype letters for personal use. I suspect that it's the only cover letter book on the market to come with a PC diskette.

Really, I was very excited when I got the book, after trying repair my car few times, I notice the book was good for nothing. As an example I can tell that not even the position of timing belt marks on the gears are explained.

Not really usefull.......2003-04-15

The person who buys this book thinks it is good for ALL Suzuki Swifts.......that's not true. I own a Suzuki Swift Gti 1.3 4 cylinder DOHC, and this book tells almost NOTHING about it, just some references here and there, it may be good for a 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder Swift (although I doubt it)....money thrown to the waste basket!

I wrote my first review 5 months ago. During that time I have gotten 5 emails- about one every month or so asking "How do you rate this book?" I've had 5 months to rely on this book- and its saved me 400 bucks. Someone sent me an email quesiton to me tonight and I delted it by accident (I'm on my laptop and it just got connected to the net ok?) and so I'm writing here to help out the guy who emailed me with a quesiton about a 1994 Swift 1.3 liter Lsi. FINALLY!!.......2002-10-07

Wonderful book, and is totally complete. But,,,Both Haynes and Chiltons should be ashamed of the incredably piss poor way they've sat with they're thumbs up there asses on these cars. Look- The Offical Suzuki Books are like 250 bucks each, and one is sheet metal, one is mechanical and the 3rd is electrical. Supposedly Chiltons and Haynes puts out the book 3 years after a car is made so do it yourselfers have this information. Well I have a 1995 Suzuki Swift,,,,and I waited,,,,and waited,,,,and waited,,,,and wrote a few letters. Then finally, 7 years after my Suzuki was built they publish the book? Well if anyone from Haynes or Chiltons is reading this- first off tens of thousands of people depended on you for this information. You screwed them over- I'm very disappointed in the publishers. Next time I buy a car- I'll simply order the manuals from the factory as a condition of the sale and cut both Chiltons and Haynes out of the money loop. Any Questions? Got the book, its about useless.......2001-11-20

There is little troubleshooting help here. If you need a walk through on a tune up, this will show you how. If you want to go beyond that, go somewhere else. Try looking up an ignition problem (personal experience). Or replacing fusable links. It mentions that they exist, but not much beyond that. And the index is nothing less then a poorly organized, frustrating mess. At best, this makes for a particularly ugly coffee table book.

This repair manual is the best for the Geo Metro series. It explains many aspects of the vehicle that the Haynes manual only briefly covers or ignores completely. It goes through diagnostics explanations clearly, provides every aspect of electrical maps, and has dozens of helpful illustrations and photographs. If you want information on Ameicas top fuel-saving car, this book covers it all.

The book does hit the basics with some good information. Photos should be in color instead of B/W. One El Camino is listed as an SS but from the photos it's a SS Clone.
If you are looking for all model specs, histories and options listing for the El Camino/Sprint/Caballero you will need more than this book but it is a good starting place.

At the time I ordered this book from Amazon, it was the only book available on the El Camino. Now there seems to be more selection, and I would advise interested readers to shop around if they're looking for real depth. Although the book does mention pretty much every model and show pictures of each, it's really just a brief once-over, and the pictures aren't even in color! That was the really disappointing part about a supposed "photo history..." But nonetheless, it's a fun read and a real enthusiast will probably want it.

"I've never seen anything go so fast." We heard this from a fan behind us when USAC brought the 'Thunder 'nd Lightening' division to a small dirt track outside of Richmond, KY. An old librarian's trick when a new subject comes their way is to go the children's section and read. Information and understanding is their goal, not prestige.
Susan Sexton's SPRINT CAR RACING does this in spades, covering hand signals of the flagman, the great names of racing who have driven the sprints from the time they were open cockpit to the wings of today, and the festival of the sport that lives in the heart.
Age is not a factor if you love racing.

Mike O'Leary's OUTLAW SPRINTS puts the reader so close to the track you start sneezing. The small cars with big wings that are built from start to finish in a week, tear up the track when they come close to flying. If you have a dirt track near and its a Saturday, then you know they sometimes do fly.
These cars and their drivers are what make motor sport racing an intimate personal event for the owners, the drivers, the fans, the pit crews and the neighbors who live near the track.
