DONT WASTE YOUR FUNDS............2005-06-15

Another exercise in the SELLING OUT of AEROSOL CULTURE. Everything about this book should be a hit. The pictures are all well photographed. The pages are thick high gloss stock. The presentation is tight and everything about it catches your eye. And of course, you know that SPANISH graff can be pretty fresh. The problem? Its 200 pages of garbage that wasnt worth photographing in the first place. This is a graffiti book about the scene in BARCELONA with almost ZERO flicks of tight SPANISH graff. There are no burners, clean trains or productions. The majority of the content is just pics of the ARTISTS! The rest is just wack "street art". You know what I mean by "street art", the kind of no style stuff that gets major play now a days and is only considered graff because its illegal and involves spraypaint. And dont get me started on the gallery stuff. If you wanna see some dope SPANISH styles try and track down a VHTF European book called COLORS ZOO. And DONT BE A TOY, keep graffiti OUT OF THE GALLERIES, and put it ON THE GALLERIES. Go tag on one!

When I was younger, my favorite feature of Mad Magazine was always the Spy vs. Spy section. The absurdity of the two goons and their constant attempts to thwart the other was a hilarious spoof of the cold war. Since it was done with humor, the ridicule of the American CIA and Soviet KGB was often overlooked. Gadgets, violence and single-mindedness are the tactics used by both as the white spy battles the black spy. Neither one possesses a great deal of intelligence; at the end one always falls for the trap.
Jokes fly fast and furious as these two fools engage in what Mad calls "joke and gagger." This book is a very fun read.

Easy way to feel good.......2007-08-12

If you are not familiar with Mr. Adam Jackson, and you are in a search for happiness, you owe it to yourself to listen to this audiobook. The production is phenomenal, but the story is even greater. In a simple way you learn 10 secrets to lead a fulfilled, happy life. I am sure Tony Robbins read it before doing personal power because they have lots of stories and strategies in common. This book is a MUST HEAR ;)

Army Chief of Staff George C. Marshall's Pentagon office was the nerve center for United States ground and air forces during World War II. This fourth volume of The Papers of George Catlett Marshall covers the nineteen months that constituted the heart of American participation in the war, a period during which Marshall was operating at the peak of his abilities as a politician, strategist, and coordinator.

Marshall was undoubtedly disappointed in late 1943 not to be chosen Supreme Allied Commander in Europe--a job that would have been granted to him had he demanded it. But many people, including President Roosevelt, considered him too important to America's war effort and to the alliance to move him out of Washington, D.C. As the documents in this volume demonstrate, Marshall directed great energy at maintaining and strengthening the crucial Anglo-American alliance through his participation in the great wartime decision-making conferences at Quebec, Cairo, and Teheran, and through his perseverance over strategic direction.

This volume also reveals Marshall's efforts to maintain the alliances of army and navy services, ground and air forces, regular and reserve components, home front and combat theaters, military and civilian, and Pentagon and Congress. Army personnel increased to eight million by the end of these nineteen months, and Marshall moved vigorously to complete the creation, training, and transportation of combat units. He continually faced problems of logistics and shipping, research and development, finding exceptionally able leaders, and supplying support personnel. All the while, Marshall was planning for the postwar military by advocating Universal Military Training and a unified Department of Defense. "You are doing a grand job," he told General Eisenhower at the end of 1944, "go on and give them hell." The same might have been said of Marshall himself.

Good resource.......2002-08-11

As with other Stokes books, this one is quite a good reference. Lots of nsights in attracting wildlife, specifics on prefered plants, etc. A good book to have on hand when landscaping or planting new gardens.

I hate to say anything bad about the Stokes, but..........2002-01-30

This book was a disappointment. I think it represents a classic example of a publisher using established authors' names to crank out a nice looking book that contains very little in the way of useful information.

The book has only 95 numbered pages to begin with. The first five of those are -- get this -- the title page, a page listing other Stokes publications, another title page. the publisher's information page, and the table of contents.

Okay. That leaves 90 pages for content, right?

Not really. The last 31 pages are given over entirely to glossy, full color bird identication photos. And approximately one third of the remaining pages are also devoted to pretty bird photographs. The book is almost entirely "boiler plate", in other words. What content there is is fine -- there just isn't much of it.

If information is what you want, get _The Bird Garden_ by Stephen Kress (The Nation Audubon Society) instead. It's much better.

Great for beginners.......2000-04-06

This book is a wonderful starting point to help you learn about bird gardening. It starts with the four basic needs and then explains in a clear and simple fashion how to meet these basic needs, as well as other considerations. The book also has a small picture glossary of the most common birds and their "bio". This book is very well written, has charts that are easy to follow, full of gorgeous color photographs, and though they keep it short, it's crammed with helpful info!
