Why Fumble When You Can Read It in Detail?.......2001-04-09

There are few things as satisfying and fun to the videographer as making professional movies - videos that you actually want to watch a second time or more - and Apple's iMovie software is THE tool to do just that. You get superb results from an inexpensive piece of software - IF you can use it. While the program is exceptionally simple, there is only an on screen "Help Menu," and we all know how those work: everything but the question you need answered, it seems. Into the void has rushed Brad Miser with wit and wisdom, and with all the answers and instruction you need and then some. His Idiot's Guide is a marvelous introduction to video/movie making, and he walks you through composition, editing, mixing, enhancing, titling, effects, and stuff you never thought possible when you bought that video camera (or even thought about buying it). Miser is one of those very few authors that are effectively "high tech" and "high touch," he writes with clarity, and with an obvious love of his subject. If Amazon would allow it, I'd give this six stars.

One idiot's review of The Complete Idiot's Guide to iMovie2.......2000-11-30

iMovie2 does not come with an instruction book, and the iMac booklet helps precious little, so I was pleased to find Brad Miser's Idiot Guide (which is a series I like anyway). The book is both imformative and insightful, plus a lot of fun to read. It got me going with iMovie in very short order, and when I emailed Mr. Miser to clarify a point, I got a prompt and effective answer. Highly recommended.

A great book for children........2003-03-12

Am I missing something, or is this book aimed at Children? The Reading level *is* 4-8. While I concede that there are books aimed at children that contain passages that adults may find amusing (Dahl comes to mind), but I'm not sure it this book falls into that category.

This book is fantastic for children aged 4 to 8 - but I feel that the above reviews go too far.

Out of our Depth in an Empty Motel Pool.......2003-03-11

It is always possible to (forgive the pun) read too much into any book. I believe Mr. Keane is attempting to poke fun at the fashion of wearing one's ball cap with the bill at the rear. In the traditional sense, this is, in fact, the "wrong" or "backward" way to wear such a cap. The children have become so accustomed to this convention that now it seems to them that Daddy's cap is being worn "wrongly" or "backwardly," when in point of fact, it is being worn "correctly" or "forwardly." Of course, from this perspective, the whole scenario comes off as an hilarious commentary on our society.

"Daddy's Cap" is a wonderful compendium of cartoon humor akin to the Thurberian great American tradition. An epic narrative of male bonding in easy cartoon form, "Daddy's Cap" has replaced Robert Bly's "Iron John" as my son's favorite reading. Secret signs, indeed!

Funniest yet!.......1999-09-30

Uncle Roy comes to visit Bil. Both put their hats on backwards and claim it's their secret sign. The kids want in on the act! You will die of laughter reading this collection of non-stop gutbusters. Each cartoon is a moment of pure Keane genius.

I just got the Internet, so here goes!! First of all, one of my few daily joys is my morning visit to the Circus of Family (HA!!) I wake each morning and eagerly make a pot of coffee and scan the Family Circus, soaking up all the delightful true as life humor. It's one of the few things I consistently look foward to anymore, what with the house getting more and more empty. I'm feeling more and more like Grandma, peering down from heaven!! Second of all, when I heard Family Circus man had written a whole book I ran instantly out to the mall and bought a copy for my home. It's a wonderful book, I can open it at any time and feel like I'm in my silent kitchen early in the morning all alone with my decaffeinated ground coffee. It gives me a great amount of solace and always manages to bring a slight smile to my face. Bil, when you read this, thanks a lot for everything! I don't know what I'd do in the mornings with out your clever insights!!

This book is a must read for the wanta-be entrepreneur and small business owner. I highly recommend each and every one of you out there purchase a copy for your personal library.

I found this book at my public library a year ago when I was living in South Carolina. I thought it was a wonderful book when I read it back then. And I was very surprised when I looked it up on the Amazon site and learned that nobody had reviewed it. I was making booklists at the time, but not reviewing books yet. So I added the book to one of my lists, and went on my merry way.

I liked the book so much that I actually purchased a copy for my own private book collection. And the book followed me from South Carolina to New Jersey where I am now living. I notice there is a 5 star review online for this book now. And with this review there will now be two.

The author is not from the United States. I think she is native to New Zealand and now lives in Australia. Not that being non-American is really an issue. But some of the words in the book are spelled different than what I am used to seeing. You know, the s versus z thing. I find it when I read Sara Douglass books, too. Dr. D is from Australia.

Marketing has to do with communication. And the author is expertly qualified to write this book because she is a successful communications consultant and trainer. She also has organized and written her book so it makes sense and can be helpful to a wanta-be entrepreneur or small businessperson that wants to do much of the marketing for his or her small business.

Besides explaining HOW TO WRITE, this book covers the following topics:

I found this book both useful and inspiring. It is grounded in common sense and uses practical case studies to clearly demonstrate almost every marketing scenario. The author is clearly a no-nonsense person who wants you to understand the process rather than blind you with clever jargon. Really, really helpful.

Not what I was looking for.......2000-02-10

Although this book is informative for a reader who wants to learn about post partum depression, it wasn't what I needed as someone who suffers from PPD. The book discusses risk factors, theories about the cause of PPD, prevention, the challenging adjustment to motherhood...As a mother of three, I had already adjusted to motherhood twice before without major incident. While a mother is in the throes of depression, she really doesn't want to read about risk factors or what she could have done regarding prevention. Such ideas are useless once you are already suffering. I was looking for a book that would offer me some comfort and reassurance. I was hoping to read about other women's experiences, and what I could do for myself. Aditionally, I found the book to be inconsistant in that it sometimes addressed the suffering mother directly ("you")and other times addressed a third party: "Helping the new mother..." I was looking for a book written exclusively for the mother suffering from PPD, not for people wanting to learn about the illness.

Antietam was one of the critical battles of the American Civil War. The fortunes of the South were riding high after the resounding victory at Second Manassas. While Bragg and Kirby Smith invaded Kentucky, Lee's invasion of Maryland was intended to maintain the Southern offensive momentum, to wrest Maryland from the Union and to win the recognition of the European powers. But his bold plan was compromised - and at the Antietam River the Army of Northern Virginia was fighting for its very life. The battle marked the end of Robert E. Lee's first invasion of the North, and still stands as the single bloodiest day in American military history. Its political impact was just as profound. The Northern victory encouraged Lincoln to make public the Emancipation Proclamation in a presidential decree of 22 September 1862, to take effect from 1 January 1863. After Antietam the war went beyond mere politics: not only the maintenance of the Union but also the destruction of slavery and the survival of both Northern and Southern societies were explicitly at stake.

"Antietam 1862" Meets The Test!.......2006-08-31

I found this book to be one of the best in covering the Battle of Antietam in a general form. In order to study the battle with more detail one must select those available as to individual units, armies or individuals.

The publisher, Osprey Publishing,has provided an excellent and attractive format. Mr. Norman Stevens is to congratulated on this his first publication at least with this publisher. The details such as maps, illustrations and list of units in "Order of Battle" are excellent.

I would recommend this book for any student of the war.

Very detailed documentation of the Antietam campaign. I found many facts that were absolutely amazing, for the Civil War buffs this is a good read.

I hope that libraries are not purchasing this book as a legitimate account of the battle. Not only is the account preposterous, the glossary is inaccurate, and the index confusing. Perhaps a great amusement for reenactors, this cartoon crockery is unworthy of the subject.
