It is also an important historical document, revealing the extent to which England permeated almost every aspect of Olmsted's emerging worldview, soon to find expression in his various careers as scientific farmer, author and publisher, social critic, reformer, administrator, and landscape architect of major parks and park systems throughout the United States.

The introduction clarifies the links between Olmsted's developing picturesque aesthetic, social conscience, and reformer's passion for change. McLaughlin offers a persuasive argument that Olmsted would come to adapt many of the features of the cultivated English countryside -- first seen on this trip -- in designed landscapes such as New York's Central Park.

The book features around 160 different sets of letterheads. Each set is usually completed by callingcards and envelopes, which can result in mind-boggling design-solutions. Quite often the callingcards are the real stars. In one example, metallic fibres are woven into the card, in another, the card is printed and cut as luggage check cards. The only disappointment is the quality of the printed photographs, as they are sometimes quite blurred (that keeps it from the fifth star). Otherwise a must!

There can be no doubt that the size of financial markets has grown at a faster pace than the markets for goods and services in the past ten or twenty years. However, it is still unclear whether this is a desirable development, or whether it indicates looming risks. The book documents and classifies the debate about the potential decoupling of the financial sector from the real economy, and then to introduce it into the context of established scientific lines of research. We try to provide a logical structuring of the heterogeneous arguments by postulating a decoupling hypothesis (phenomena, causes, consequences). I had to buy this book as part of a college course curriculum.

This is a great book for someone who is looking to beef up their business writing skills. I really like it as a 'reference' manual. It shows examples of how to write and communicate in the business world, basically what to and what not to say and do.

It is also easy to read and understand, which is a big plus for an educational literary work.

This book is wonderful! It explains to easy to read detail on how we are different types of learners, readers, note-makers, and test-takers. This book should be in every elementary or junior high school across the nation. It would have helped me tremendously as a young person struggling in school. I'm sure the outcome of my education would have been more of a positive one had I had the right tools and knowledge of what I needed in order to succeed in getting better grades in school.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone, especially those who struggle with taking notes in class, or freezing when it comes to taking a test. This book explains all of that and much more, making it all very easy!

Cornerstone is great material for my Strategies for Success class. I like the stories of real people that they list in the book, it has worked as a better illustration for me then most pictures. Greatly recommend this book even if you don't have a class you need this book for, but just a read as well.
