Finest humanities textbook I've seen.......2000-02-07

We used this textbook for a humanities survey course at my high school. My teacher said it was the finest he'd seen out of dozens, and after using it for his class, I have to agree. The art, maps, pictures, and everything help bring the past to life, and the text, while easy to read, says everything it needs to.

This is THE resource on PA Dutch pottery of the 18th and 19th century. It is filled with references to long forgotten potteries in Eastern Pa., especially the Upper Bucks County region once called the Nockamixon Swamp. He details the history of the potteries and the tools and techniqies used by the potters. This book is out of print but well worth searching for.

funny, heartwarming romance.......2005-01-06

This family-friendly manga is one of my current favorites. It is funny and sweet; a cross between school romance and slice of life genres. The story is about two middle-schoolers (she: Narue and he: Kazuto) who like one another and start dating. The twist is that Narue is a space alien! But apart from that she's pretty normal.

The storyline is similar to others you've seen, like Ah! My Goddess or AI Love You. Instead of one older and one younger sister, there is a single character who is both! But unlike those other stories, both Narue and Kazuto are quirky real people. As they get to know one another, they have misunderstandings and uncover less attractive sides of one another. But they try to understand and be nice to one another.

Overall, it's a lot of fun and a pleasant read.

Humor IS the best medicine!.......2000-04-29

I laughed till I cried. For those out there who think that self-help books can solve all your problems, this may not be for you. But those of us who think this whole self-help thing has gone too far, will be highly amused by the authors' creative parody of the most popular books in this area.

The authors create book blurbs around their made-up titles. The text is evenly funny throughout. Even if this was created one or two nights in a bar over some drinks, it's a hysterical romp.

Some zany book titles include: I'm OJ, Your OJ, Embraced by the Light FM, and a spoof on all those helpful travel guides -- Let's Go Hell.

It makes for some great bathroom reading, or might be perfect as a gag gift for friends who may be hapless victims of this self-help syndrome. My advice, quit reading books about how sick you are and how you need to change, and start reading more books such as this and develop a sense of humor. Laughter IS the best medicine.

Making fun of the self help books- snore. I remember seeing jokes on the late show years ago which did the same thing. I suppose if you've had your head in the sand for the last decade and just recently discovered the self help section, you'll find this book a scream. Otherwise, no.

Avoid It.......2006-07-16

The book gets off to a good start in the preface pointing out through implication that teens are NOT children, Very refreshing, but then it starts getting bad. Despite what the first reviewer said, this book has a lot of page filler and things in it which I can't imagine are an issue with so many teens that a book like this needed to be published. The major problems with it are that it preaches against drug use, and uses biased sources. For example she cites a statistic which claims that parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs have "fewer negative incidents with their teen." But what the bunghole qualifies as "negative incidents" lol? Coming home with red eyes, coming home relaxed rather than screaming? Many teens know, not all drugs are bad and many can actually help you. A reason that there may be few negative incidents like fighting (assuming it's true), is because the teens that get badgered AVOID their parents and use the drugs elsewhere and when their parents are asleep. Also, the length of the study may have been short, and so only seeing the temporary effect of being pestered by your parents on drugs. On top of that, there are actually studies which show that drug programs cause teens to take drugs whereas they may not have if they hadn't been misinformed about them by the anti-drug propaganda pushers. That evidence will be in my upcoming book if I can get my computer working anytime soon.

The title is also poor, it's not that most adults dont think teens are people, it's one of either of two things. One is that they are envious about their youthfulness and bad attitude towards adults (which ironically is perpetuated by adult propaganda about it being wrong for teens and adults to have relationships or even talk to eachother casually, because teens are supposedly not adults and "stupid"). Joyce however as I pointed out, righty said that they are not children. The other is that they don't think they are very wise or intelligent. But the Bible tells young people not to let older people look down on them.

So then, why did the first teen feel so helped out? Because there is helpful advice and good consolation in this book, so of course if someone someone is bound to be helped by those parts. But, also, if whoever reading this book has certain wrong preconceptions, such as that drugs are bad or was in an exceptional circumstance in which they were in a church in which all the adults thought teens were stupid animals, etc., or were in a situation where their parents were always abusive to them, then yes, they would think this book is helpful, and their wrong ideas would be confirmed, giving them assurance that everything was okay.

But there are much better books on the topics of child abuse and bad family relationships with biblical advice then this one.

Teenagers beware...youre in for the truth.......2004-01-01

If youre a teenager (like me) then this is the book for you. Many young people today feel so lost and are surounded with peer pressure and influences. This book helps us kids the godly way. This is a must if you are a teenager and seek a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It covers a bunch of subjects and topics that teenagers face (including relationships, peer pressure, suicide and gossip) I first read this book at age 16 and i can honestly say it changed my perspective of myself and others. Through it, I learned how to appreciate and love both myself and God. Its a must for anyone who wants a more abundant life.

Mr. Paul's wonderful story is a clasic. I enjoyed every page, every story. As hard as it was to read, the truth has open my eyes to a better understanding of the remarkable life of the Micmac people. I encourage everyone to read it.

We Were Not the Savages presents true history.......2002-12-09

Daniel Paul's book is a refreshing and accurate account of the injustice that the aboriginal people have endured since European contact. I recomend it to all. It is thought provoking and very intellegent reading
