As a recent Interior Design graduate I was looking for books to remodel the interiors of homes in a "green", sustainable way. I ordered this book but upon inspection found it to be more suited for an owner/builder. I ordered "Good Green Homes", by Jennifer Roberts as well and found it to be similar in that it would appeal more to owner/builders/architects.

A good reference book for any contractor new to green building.

Explains the basics of indoor air pollution and how to choose different building materials that are both "green" and healthy. Broken down into different sections, i.e., the kitchen and bathroom for example makes it an easy to follow guide. The check-lists at the end of each chapter offer an easy way to make sure you've considered everything with the project.

decent but commercial and expensive.......2007-06-01

this book was well written and fairly clear, even to me as a building novice. i was fairly disappointed, though, at how many of the green approaches seemed to focus on expensive, high-tech commercial green materials. i was hoping for a lot more on how to integrate traditional and very basic do-it-yourself techniques such as recycling used materials, mud plastering, simple greywater systems, and so on into existing buildings. in the end, i could hardly use any of the information in this book because i couldn't afford the materials. if you have the money, though, and are hoping for a very polished and professional look, you will probably enjoy this book.

Good book but could be condensed .......2007-03-09

I read the book from start to finish but found myself skipping over many passages of repeated information. Although the information provided was useful, the same exact info. is rehashed many times in the same chapter and throughout the book. The book format may have something to do with that with it's many recaps and review.

Great way to think about green remodelling.......2007-01-21

This book really shaped how I went about renovating my house. Although I wasn't able to incorporate as much as I had hope, due to budget constraints, this book opened my eyes to considerations I didn't know existed. It's easy to look at solar or wind power, bamboo flooring and recycled tiles to go green; this book goes through a house piecemeal to explain concerns on every level for a much more thorough discussion of renovating green. Extremely helpful.

Although the production techniques (multi-reel, reverse track) may be outdated, this book is a great guide on the interplay between the visual and audible components of films (or TV series). Written by recording mastermind Earle H. Hagen with his half-a-century-old history of scoring TV series and the big picture, Advanced Techniques should be seen as a toolbox that can even tell an experienced composer some tricks about how to treat musically difficult film effects.

Outdated.......2002-07-16

I was excited by the description of this book but disappointed by it's contents. The techniques are totally outdated. It goes on at length about analog recording technique which is nearly inapplicable to the beginning composer. Not recommended except as a minor resource for your library. Buy "The Guide to MIDI Orchestration" by Gilreath or the Jeff Rona Film Scoring book and the general orchestraion books by Adler and Blatter first.

An Excellent Follow Up By Mr. Hagen.......2001-08-29

This is the follow up, or second volume to "scoring for films" As the first book, this one is full of diagrams, recording techniques and scores. The technical view is like updated now with the advent of computers and the new digital technology, but the score analysis and inter relations with scripts is great. It has, also, a couple of writtened cues from Mephisto Vals (Goldsmith) and The Clan Of The Cave Bear (Silvestry) in musical notation. It comes with a CD that include cues from the TV series "I Spy" which are the highlight of the Book. Don't be confused, this is not a history book or biography book. Is on the technical side of the industry.

Best Cat Book I've Read In Years!.......1997-10-13

PETTED is poignant, hilarious, profound, and imaginative. One suspects the authors were cats in a previous life. This book will expand your mindset of what it means to be a cat, and have you laughing at the same time. All the kitties in the book come to a good end, enriched by their "near death" experiences--especially one particular cat. I highly recommend this book and even sent an e-mail to the publisher to tell them how much I liked it! and request that the authors write more cat books ASAP!!

Businesses seeking indepth coverage and plenty of examples will appreciate the weightier AMA Handbook Of Business Letters by Jeffrey Seglin and Edward Coleman. Unlike its easier competitor, this provides a series of guidelines and tutorials on the basics of writing letters and includes over 350 models for memos, faxes, emails, and business letters. The accompanying CD allows for choosing a model and quickly producing a finished result.

Disappointed with outdated disk.......2000-06-23

I was excited to get my book in the mail, however, when I opened the disk that came with the book it was for Wordperfect 5.1 & MS Word 2.0. I have contacted the publisher in regards if there is a newer disk because I like many others use WordPerfect 9 and Microsoft Word. I received instructions that I can not get to work in DOS or Windows. One of the reasons I purchased the book was to get the disk and sample letters! What a disappointment! I have a disk I cannot use at this point. Buyer's Beware!

The model letters in The AMA Handbook of Business Letters are a godsend. And they come on a disk that's included with the book. Better than impersonal form letters, these models let you adapt to your own situation and send off the best correspendence you can imagine. There's also a great primer on writing and grammar, plus handy appendices of words to watch, common punctuation snafus, and a list of free grammar hotlines you can call around the country. Well worth the price. I'd buy it for my whole sales force.

I'm in the business of teaching writing to business professionals and this book is a godsend. The instructional material up-front is right on, the useful appendixes at the end of the book are great (especially the grammar hotline directory which guides readers to grammar helplines throughout the country), but the greatest value are the model letters themselves. Plus the book comes with a software diskette that has the templates for all the model letters. This is great stuff

Truly excellent book I keep handy.......2006-11-23

I bought this book initially because I was adopting foster children and I wanted to help them with their loss issues. But then as I read it, I realized it applies to helping any child who has to face significant losses. I wish my brother had this book when he got divorced, maybe he could have understood and helped his children when their schoolwork plummetted and they became depressed. It helps you understand about childhood grief and how to aid the child in coping with it. I have referred to it many times and bought copies for my friends, too.

A Classic.......2003-05-16

This book is often recommended for people adopting older children. However, it is a beautifully written book, and easy to read. It has information on how to help children with all sorts of changes, permanent (like a death), and temporary, like a parent going overseas for the military. The book helps adults understand what is going on for the child, and how to help them better with their sadness, anager and aggression.
