I thought it was going to focus more on graffiti as an art and not just about tagging. I am more interested in it as an art and how it has affected the graphic design and art since its beginnings. This book seems to glorify graffiti as a crime than appreciate it for what it is.

A REAL GRAFFITI BOOK.......2006-04-11

As a graffiti writer I love this book. If I wasn't a graffiti writer, I would still love this book. This book covers it all! It explains everything from a tag to piece, and everything in between. It puts everything you ever wanted to know about graffiti in one simple book. So if you love graffiti like I do, then this is a great book to add to your collection. If you know nothing about graffiti, buy this book and you will have the knowledge to pass-off as a writer. But remember, just having knowledge won't get you ups or props!!! Keep it real.

Strong, but the focus is to narrow.......2006-02-21

This an excellent book for someone who is curious about how graffiti has evolved, as well as the codes of conduct and social interior of one sect of the graffiti movement. However, this book only addresses on aspect of a pluralistic culture. There is no attention given to mural art, little attention given to stencils, and no attention given to the real variety of street art. I reccommend watching the documentary "style wars" along with this to get a perspective on some of what the book is talking about. Paul 107 (the author) seems to be a kind of childish poseur of the hip-hop "all-city" mentality, reflected in his choice of direction and the kinds of questions he asks when interviewing some of the old classic graff artists. The reality is graffiti is much older than he even understands, and has roots in places for beyond his scope. Some books on graffiti in south and central america would give a better idea of what I am talking about here. Most of the people in this book are the kind that I normally look down upon in the graffiti world as a colleague so-to-speak. Flow is probaly the contradiction to this, and fortunately his section is lengthy and interesting. Not a complete picture, but a fair one of the direction Paul 107 chose.

despite its size this book does deliver,however i think it would appeal more to the bomber rather than the legal eagle,if your looking for tips on everything from making your own ink and marker to photography lessons this is it,even if you already no all this its still a good read anyway.it does lack big full colour productions but i dont think that was the aim to document that sort of graff.

It's a shame that the book doesn't focus more on issues that shaped the world instead of what was going on in the private life of a man. Battling homelessness? Welfare reform? The lowest unemployment level in years? No mention. This book is the worst kind of anthology of tripe.

This book is one of a kind. It contains previously published Clinton cartoons from all over the world. It is a story that needed to be told about the most corrupt President in the history of the U.S., William Jefferson Clinton. More negative books and facts are being written every day.

This is the only book I know that features cartoonists from the U.S., Canada, Sweeden and India. Many are syndicated and one is a Pulitizer Prize winner.

It is a virtual history of Clinton's scandal-ridden presidency that also includes Al Gore, Hillary, Monica Lewinsky, Paula Jones, and Ken Starr.

There are multiple Quotations from several prominent Democrats, a past President, Mikhail Gorbachev and many best selling authors.

The Introduction thoroughly explains the word 'Thief' in the Title.

Too Opinionated.......2003-07-30

I was looking for a detailed history of the conflict in this book. What I got was a very defeatist look at every aspect of the war. The book also does not organize things very well. Sections are divided by years(1965,1966,etc..)they were supposed to cover but the passages within them would talk about subjects that had no relevance to what was going on in the year it was in. The book did, however, have excellent photographs and its descriptions of tactics used by both sides were very good. The description of actual battles can only be considered mediocre.

A very well balanced book (a rare thing indeed) which seeks to outline and present in both graphic and written senses the real truth behind the war. Particularly relevant was the perspective given by contributors from all sides - the press, the VC, the NVA, the MPs. Excellent photographs which capture the real sense of the conflict.

The book could have benefited perhaps a little more by expounding on the history behind the causes and the political reasonings of the war.

A good summary history with excellent weapons/tactics detail.......1997-05-19

This book is a British take on the American involvement in Vietnam. Originally serialized (much like the History of the Second World War series of the '70s), this work is distinguished by a large number of excellent photos, numerous sidebars detailing the major weapons used by both sides, explanations of tactics, and many eye-witness accounts from participants on both sides.

Perhaps because this is a British work, there is greater attention given to the non-American allies fighting in Vietnam, especially the Koreans and Australians. In addition, there are several articles written by members of the Vietcong and North Vietnamese Army, providing an unusual perspective on the fighting. The history takes you from the first landings of U.S. Marines at Da Nang in 1964 through the fall of Saigon in 1975, the Vietnamese/Cambodian wars, and a brief overview of Vietnam in the mid-1980s.

The general slant of the text is somewhat defeatist -- the editors (who are Americans) clearly believe the American enterprise in Southeast Asia was doomed from the start -- and the tone may disturb many who do not share this particular point of view.

More useful are the hundreds of pictures, a very complete index, detailed diagrams, maps and drawings illustrating strategy and tactics, and the liberal use of explanitory sidebars.

You won't want to use this as your only reference for the history of the Vietnam War, but it is an excellent way to understand how the fighters on both sides did their jobs and how they used their tools of war

This book says the things we all have thought when we have heard of nonsensical law suits and the lack of common sense in our society. An easy read, this book intends to put a fire under people.

Deflecting responsibility from his own profession.......2007-07-07

The anecdotes are indeed maddening; of course the law and bureaucratic process can be described as "inefficient". However, over and again, Howard says, "Anyone can accuse anyone of anything," which is true, but he acts like the ability to accuse someone is the same as rendering judgment, and therefore our right to call someone to task in a court of law should be abridged. He neglects the fact that, once in the court of law, it is up to the lawyers and judges, and juries when appropriate, to dismiss cases that have no merit. If that is not being done, it is not the problem of us American citizens "having too many rights" but that his slimy profession is without any moral compass. And his book, while thought-provoking and entertaining, is at heart a call for less oversight of those in power, because those without power are slowing them down. I expect he's very happy with Bush and Cheney and their dismantling of so many of our inconvenient "rights". Read it, but with a pile of salt.

Death of Common Sense.......2007-01-14

Well-written and well-researched book that presents the frightening picture of the beast that law in America has become. The author provides good historical background for the reader to appreciate the insidious development of what has become our current laws, how these laws have actually become impediments for progress and justice, and good discussions regarding the challenges facing any rational correction of this quagmire.

An Abdication of Responsibility.......2005-09-21

Rarely do books become more important years after they have been published.
That is the fate of Philip K. Howard's "The Death of Common Sense".
This short book details how America has deviated from being a bastion of freedom to being a nation subjugated by laws.
Mr. Howard presents a wonderful case against government-induced regulation---laws so far removed from reality, so unworkable in practice and so disastrous for productivity.
It would not be difficult countering some of his arguments, however I would deem it unlikely to rebut his central thesis which is that until Americans retain responsibility for their decisions instead of looking to arcane rulebooks, we should not expect the buck to stop anywhere.
Hence the reason this book is more important now. As we look at the Sarbanes-Oakley act, a reaction to the Enron scandal, and the McCain-Feingold bill for campaign finance reform, we have to ask ourselves if the pill is not worse than the pain. Inherent in finely written law is the ability to subvert them, as was seen during the 2004 elections. Why should we citizens take the risk?
The chapter "A Nation of Enemies" was illuminating. Quoting Isaiah Berlin, "Liberty for the wolves is death for the lambs," he advances the claim, which some deem legimitate, that enumerated rights can be antithetical to each other. Others definitely would argue to the contrary.
Therein lies its beauty: the ability to teach without hectoring, to dispute without hurling invectives.
Read this highly educative book and discover why "Relying on ourselves is...commonsense."
