Black and White?.......2007-03-03

This book is great for the $7 price, just let me preface with that remark. The book is also of a pretty good size.

On the downside, and this is a big one for me- There are more than just drawings in this book. Many of the works are drawings with Gouache and Watercolor, and are still printed in black and white. While all the works print up okay in black and white, with little loss as to the line work, the fact that the originals are in color makes me a little sad.

If you are interested at all in any more than the line quality of Schiele's works, get one of the more expensive collections of his works, which include color plates.

cheap........1999-01-18

dover art library books are a great way to get copies of master drawings...cheap. all prints are in b/w and print quailty isn't the best...but for the price they are a great unprecious alternative to the glove wearing 60$ art book.

Worth the cost.......2002-10-12

While surely not inexpensive for a paperback book, this is an important study---perhaps the best single volume relating the history of magnetic sound, video, and data recording methods over a century. Written by a number of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) authorities, the 20 chapters provide clearly-written and well-illustrated (nearly 100 photos and a host of diagrams) accounts of the rise of various modes of recording. One need not be an engineer (I'm not!) to understand the discussions here.

Of special value is the pulling together of material on all of these methods in one place, allowing ready comparison of who did what and when. We learn about inventors, marketing, hardware, and the means of recording, allowing a clearer understanding of how later developments built upon earlier ones. Some of the principles of modern videocams, for example, have been known for decades.

Each chapter includes references to contemporary studies and more recent research, allowing the reader to pursue topics at greater length. In all, this is a valuable anthology of original research that sheds considerable light on a fascinating story.

The little book is okay for the kiddies. That said, the accompanying DVD that you paid so much money for is, well ... did I say LAME in the title? If forced to suffer through it twice in a row, you would run screaming into the night, and never again regain human sensibilities.

The DVD presents a "family band" -- seven different instruments -- with banjo, uke, mandolin, double-bass, guitar, accordian, and so forth. The guy "teaching" you the ukulele switches immediately, and inexplicably, to guitar. Some child in the band ends up playing the uke, but her back is to you so you can't see her play, much less pick out the uke notes from the surrounding instruments. At most, you'll learn a few chords. At most. But nothing about strumming, nothing about technique, nothing that is meaningful about playing the ukulele.

The whole DVD amounts to a "cringe moment" that just goes on and on and on. At the end, the "teacher" once again appears with the ukulele and plays a little tune as the scene fades out. At that point, you are thankful that nobody caught you actually watching this awful thing -- if they had, you'd never live it down.

Overall, don't waste your money on this ridiculous DVD. You're far better off with the intelligent (and free) offerings from sites like YouTube on the net.

A great Trek calender!.......2003-02-04

I got mine from a 99cent Store (they had a whole box of 'em) and I thought this was just some cheap calender, but when I opened it up, I was really amazed at how nice it is. Great graphics, nice large blocks for writing in, even a nifty sweet poster of all the ships from Trek (from the NX-01 to Voyager) and thier size comparisons.

This is definately a keeper even at the full price. I think any Trek fan would love this calender.

The Star Trek calender series has gotten stale with each year having their Voyager,Deep Space Nine and Next Generation editions. This one has great photography and enough space to actually write appointments and important events. I wish that the multiple photos on one page idea the original series had this year was part of this edition. I wish that more factoids and trivia were part of the calenders also. It's worth the price.

A High Quality and Good Images........2002-12-23

As with all the past calendars, this 2003 calendar with the featured Captains of all the series. It is very colorful and filled with great images and graphics.

I liked the design and full color - obviously digitally enhanced - to create the real feeling of the performanes in their images. A good calendar for the Star Trek fan. (12-22-02)

This book enlightened my spirit and made me wish I could teach again! it is an extremly passionate rhetoric for teachers and educators who look up to a positive change in the world and their students. I highly recommend this book for any new teachers, student teachres depressed teachers, or even lost teachers who need to know the way back to the right path of teaching!
The introductions is although half of the book but insightful of the circumanstaces of Frier's lectures and the outcomes of them especuially after his death.
