This book has brief quotes by the author and others on art and creativity. The author is very encouraging and enlightening. It's not made for reding through at one sitting; rather to look through now and then. Very thoughtful!

This book goes into fairly extensive detail on almost all aspects of film production. Production is a grey area to most and this book illuminates it quite well. It is a bit dry and long winded but is more than made up for by its excellent index and organization. It doesn't have to be a page turner if you can find the page you need. Buy it and use it as you need it (and you will need it)

I'm a writer-producer currently prepping my first independent film where I'm in the driver's seat. This book has been an invaluable resource for me along the way in terms of educating me on the industry and laying out all of the steps I need to take in order to pull off this project. I've read a number of other books on producing lately, and so far nothing else comes even close to this one. Completely comprehensive, from development to distribution.

What can you expect from a single book about indy feature film production. It's a great introduction book, but for those aspiring producers and directors to be. You'll need to do some research on your own.

Get your hands on a copy. Look at the excellent cover by John Picacio, and then imagine this: as good as that cover is, what's inside it simply blows it away, and that's no mean feat, gentle reader. Rick Klaw is jarring at times, abrasive, witty, intelligent, laconic, challenging, an expert in many fields from bookselling to the composing of effective comic books, science fiction or how to hold a book signing. His ruminations on censorship are white-hot and deserve to be read by anyone who holds on to the foolish notion that what will protect children is ignorance, his understanding of what makes effective writing is vast, his ability to interview (in this case, Michael Moorcock, an authentic genius... much like Rick himself is) holds startling clarity. I simply cannot say enough good things about this book. It should be required reading for anyone who fancies him or herself a writer.
Enjoyable collection of essays by a true book lover.......2003-11-06
This book is a compendium of essays that have originally appeared on Rick Klaw's web column "Geeks With Books" over at SF Site, as well as some other scattered sources. Klaw is something of a name in Texas science fiction and comics fandom and publishing, but his principal career is that of a bookseller, and this is where his love of books truly shines.
You wouldn't think a load of essays about the art of bookselling would be all that interesting, but they are, thanks to Klaw's ready wit and the way any bibliophile can dive right into his stories knowing they are listening to a kindred spirit. There are several amusing and incisive tales, ranging from shoplifting (where Klaw reveals that the Bible is the #1 most shoplifted book), to dealing with author signings, to the economics of used book stores and why so few of them turn anything resembling a profit. It's breezy and fun reading all the way through.
Elsewhere in the book Klaw lets his geek flag fly with everything from book and movie reviews to interviews with the likes of Michael Moorcock, to some enjoyable dirt-dishing concerning his brief run as a graphic novel editor.
Depending upon your own interests, some essays will be more interesting to you than others. They are all, however, good quick reading, with few in excess of five pages. Still, it must be said that the price tag is pretty steep here for what you get. Still, that's the economic reality of small press publishing. Klaw would be happy to explain it all to you in detail.

The story of AMW's roots and initial success.......2001-11-08
Although not quite up-to-date (this book was released in 1990), `America's Most Wanted: How TV Catches Crooks' gives the average AMW viewer an inside look at the various things that go into making an episode of Fox's legendary crime-busting show. Also discussed is the conception and creation of the show, which was originally a mere half-hour segment, rather than the full 60 minutes seen today. An interesting part of AMW's genesis was the search for a suitable host. One of the candidates was a certain New York prosecutor named Rudolph Giuliani. The Fox folks decided not to go with him, though, because they felt the future New York mayor's political ambitions would cause him to use the show merely as a stepping-stone to get into political office. It was a decision which, in hindsight (at least according to most New Yorkers) eventually turned out to be the right call.
Then there's the most important part of putting an AMW segment together: selecting and producing the various criminal profiles that are submitted, as well as the process of casting for the re-enactments. Then there's the scouting of locations to shoot the scenes, as well as the host spots whenever Walsh goes on location. The book also goes into detail about some of their most notable captures in the series' first two seasons, including David James Roberts, the first capture the show was credited with, and John Emil List, who was caught almost 20 years after slaying his family. Although described in much more detail in `Tears of Rage', there's also a section that describes John Walsh's tragedy that led him to crusade for children's & victim's rights, and eventually end up as host of the show. Other bits include an appendix featuring the first 80-some-odd captures credited to AMW, and a brief interview with Walsh and the aforementioned Roberts.
Although I found it to be a pretty easy read, this book's almost 400-page length took a while to get through. And even though it's dated by over a decade, it does give the reader a good idea of the genesis and history of AMW.

No critical analysis has ever examined the specific reasons for the Ottoman defeat. Erickson's study fills this gap by studying the operations of the Ottoman Army from October 1912 through July 1913, and by providing a comprehensive explanation of its doctrines and planning procedures. The Ottoman Army is frequently depicted as a mob of poorly clad, faceless Turks inept in their attempts to fight a modern war. This book tells the story of the 1912-1913 Balkan Wars using mainly the Turkish resources. Well researched in great detail and covering many aspects of these wars, it is an important contribution to that period of the European history. Although there are many typographical errors (mostly Turkish) and missing a general area map showing all the critical geographical names mentioned in the book, it completes Richard C. Hall's recent book on the same subject.

Eye Opening.......2007-03-28
Now I've always been skeptical of the government to say the least. I love this country and I am continually in awe of the Constitution and its framers. I mean really; what an extraordinay document, parralelled by nothing! God Bless America. This book only furthered my belief that the government is clearing straying from our beloved Constitution, and provides plenty of examples to bring one to that conclusion.
One of the things I loved about this book was that it does not explicitly align itself with any political party. I mean it is clearing conservatively toned, but it doesn't just rip on libs for being libs, and I believe the author would have no problem pointing out mistakes by Republicans (as he does with his criticism of things like the Patriot Act). And while the author holds dearly to conservative views (like a strict interpretation of the Constitution) he stears away form political parties.
It seems that both libs and conservatives complain about Constitutional woes: libs with their gay marraige and conservatives with their right to bear arms, to name a couple. The problem is both parties pick and choose when they want to follow the Constitution. If there's one thing that I walk away with after reading this book its that everyone has to follow the Constitution. No man is above it, rich or poor, and the government cannot hold itself above it either. Democracy and liberty depend on it!
The book reveals bad law and court tactics.......2007-03-19
Liberals are generally focused on the Patriot Act. Oh they say, we are going to loose our liberties as a result. But Constitutional Chaos reveals cases which were not under the Patriot Act were obtained and people were convicted illegally. How things changed since the Supreme court decision of 1892, where the accused confession under distress or lying or false promises cannot be used in court. Yet, we see cases were enforcement lies to the suspect in order to get a confession out of him...The modern courts turn a blind eye, and allow the evidence to be used in court even though it was obtained illegally. Now there are somethings I disagree in the book...Such as obtaining permission from another country to capture and bring a suspect back to the US for trial...
Even though there are treaties that say otherwise, if the other country gives their permission than I see no problem with capture, transfer, and bring to trial. However, I do agree if the country doesn't give their permission, the US has no right to use the tactic anyway. The book reveals such cases...
The book is worth getting, because you understand more about how the government works. That's not to say the government breaks it's own laws all the time, but it doesn't mean they are all little angels either.
Must Reading.......2007-02-10
Our country is in danger. Our children may not know freedom in their adult lives. When you ignore the Constitution or interpret it dishonestly you are then at the whim of every left and right winger who want to use government to suit their cause. Many progressives (actually socialists) just won't get honest enough to say they want to throw away the constitution. They're at the pre-stage of that where they put down the people who wrote it. Thankfully Judge Napolitano gives us a great history of crucial times and cases that started leading us away from the intent of the constitution. He gives us backround to what the founders intended, and lots of good examples from the current day which herald the demise of our freedom with the exile of the constitution. He also includes the actual Constitution in its entirety and some suggestions as to how we can fight to stay a free nation. It's well written, an enjoyable read, and since they evidently don't teach this in school anymore it should be passed around for everyone to read. It will help define who we are and give ammuniton against the collective beehive globalists that want to lead us into their visionary utopia, which will actuate as fascism. The constitution was written to protect the people from big government. Now we have people who want government to do everything for us even at the loss of individual freedom. Educate yourself to stay free, please read this book.
A MUST READ!.......2007-01-09
Heads up to all Americans. Judge Napolitano lays it out clearly and precisely how we need to protect our individual freedoms. For those of you who have not had to deal with your rights being violated, it is a harsh reality when you realize the truths of this book. Highly recommended!
Government can corrupt and deviate the law.......2006-11-04
This book will explain how our elected officials can corrupt and deviate the constitutional rule of the law. Judge Napolitano will explain how the federal government level, will disorderly placing of a word in a sentence to indicate or cause confusion of thought, or a word dislodges from the common usage in a lexicon and becomes, Obsolete: No longer in general, current use, and therefore its meaning may become questionable.
You will understand how the growing corruption in the legislature, and judiciary reflect a trend to base all American law upon the tyranny of 'Legalism', Extreme Liberalism, for the special interest and for their own political agenda. This same government is required by law, to be bound by an oath of affirmation to support and protect the constitution.
This book is a wake up call. If this book does not shock you, that our government is headed in the direction of 'Fascism', and to take action by electing people into congress that will support and protect the constitution, then you are part of the problem.

Fascinating if you can afford it!.......2000-12-05
This book made a landmark in bird taxonomy when it was first released, and the detailed classification and scientific study makes for fascinating reading, if heavy. It changed my outlook on birds in many ways - explaining quirks of behaviour linking otherwise seemingly dissimilar species, and rationalising the most unlikely relationships. However, it suffers from the great problem dogging so many scientific or special-interest books: the price-tag. You could buy five other useful books for the price of this one. But if it's a resource you need or want, it won't disappoint.
hard work but worth it.......2000-04-16
An amazing bit of scientific research based on a new way of assessing the taxonomic relationship of the birds. Still not completely accepted by the birder community but it should be. I just wish they'd release a less scientifically weighty version. Who needs all those melting point curves!
