Book Description
Visual studies is a rapidly expanding intellectual field, growing throughout colleges and universities around the world. But is it asking the most interesting questions? And is it just too easy to do?
In his latest book, James Elkins offers a road map through the field of visual studies, describing its major concerns and its principal theoretical sources. Then, with the skill and insight that have marked his successful books on art and visuality, Elkins takes the reader down a side road where visual studies can become a more interesting place. Why look only at the same handful of theorists? Why exclude from one's field of vision non-Western art or the wealth of scientific images?
The centerpiece of Visual Studies is Elkins's proposal for ten ways in which visual studies could be made more difficult -- theoretically, practically, and in terms of its interpretative and historical range. As Stories of Art offered an antidote to the authorized version of art history, Visual Studies: A Skeptical Introduction proposes a refreshingly open-minded introduction to a growing field.
This handsome volume is illustrated throughout.

several points.......2005-01-16
I was initially interested in the newly emerging field of visual studies, however after reading several of elkins' other books as well as taking a course taught by the author, I have lost what interest I had. This book follows similar themes as his others and while it does a fantastic job of presenting problems within the field, it does not present any feasible alternatives.
Concerning the images included, it is problematic that elkins does not then interpret at least some of the images. However, I do not believe that elkins is leaving this task for the reader to do. Having listened to his lectures I believe that elkins includes the images simply because they strike him in some way or another, not because they have any relevance to the field in question. This lack of relevance seems to pervade the majority of his literature and indeed the field as a whole.
If you have the time..........2004-08-06
Not by any means an introduction to the field of visual studies, however it is true to its title in that it indeed is skeptical. If you do not have a previous knowledge of visual studies, this book will not provide much clarification. The text comes across as a curriculum guide for educators. Elkins is proficient at pointing out the flaws of the discipline, and I'd agree that it is "too easy." Elkins provides many great examples of images from science to dogtags that could be de-coded under the rubric of visual studies. However, after providing these examples, he does not actually go through any interpretative process. Perhaps he is leaving this task for the reader to do..? Knowing how intelligent Elkins is, I would have loved to read his interpretations of the examples he provides. Elkins also provides a good precis of the canonical literature.
This is not a ground-breaking book, but if you are involved in any way with this field of knowledge, I'd definately suggest it. Otherwise, seek elsewhere for a more thorough introduction.

One of the best books on cinema.......2000-06-05
Although Deleuze mentions that this bookfs aim is to make a typology on cinema, for readers, it will be the object of thought more than that. In this book, Deleuze considers many films in which time is not subordinate to movement any longer (the time-image). His way of developing theory is like Bergsonfs one on time and memory, but his theory of time has variations that are reflected in various films and becomes a profound notion of the world with dynamic extension. Deleuze proposes us not only new concepts through films but also the question: What is the world? Deleuze creates a system on cinema as same as he analyzes clearly what is new and what is different from the past films in films of neo-realism or the new wave. While many people have mentioned to genres in films, Deleuzefs analysis of the border between the genres is one of the most precise.
If you had gCinema 1: The Movement-Imageh, this book would be more interesting for you because you could compare the two books. Moreover, this book treats so many films that you must find ones you have ever seen, which makes this book more fascinating.
Book Description
Aretha Franklin's soulful voice has earned her fifteen Grammies and the honor of being the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. An uncompromising survivor, Aretha has stirred millions with her classic hits, including, "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)" and "Respect." But she has also faced daunting personal challenges: her mother's desertion; teenage pregnancy; several unhappy marriages; and a tragic shooting that led to the death of her father. With unique access to key figures in Aretha's past, and a new chapter revealing the most recent events both personal and professional in the life of the diva, this is the definitive biography of the woman who captivated the music world of the early fifties and became a star.

Poorly written bio. . ........2006-11-11
Mark Bego's bio of the Queen of Soul is largely a rehash of other articles, reviews, etc. previously published about Aretha Franklin, although he does uncover a few behind-the-scenes tidbits here and there. Mr. Bego is obviously a big fan of Ms. Franklin and he wears several hats throughout the book: fashion critic, music and concert reviewer, and general arbiter of style and personal taste. Indeed, Bego is not afraid to criticize the Queen for her often disastrous and horribly embarrassing forays into fashion--in one photograph, the Queen of Soul is dressed in a one-piece bathing suit and glittery fishnet stockings, showing off her hefty backside to the audience--this is a photo that will at once make you cringe and laugh! (I also remember a TV clip of her in a black tutu, white tights and ballet slippers while covering Vanessa Williams' hit "Save the Best for Last" ). Mr. Bego's writing, however, is often silly, slipshod and redundant--just barely competent enough to hold one's attention.
Nevertheless, Mr. Bego's portrait of Ms. Franklin reveals an enormously talented, engaging musician who is nonetheless sad, sloppy and undisciplined in almost every other area of her life. Bego provides salacious details and commentary about her relatively well-off but tragic childhood (her father was notorious and wealthy, a preacher man who financed her first forays into secular music, but her mother abandoned the family and died before Ms. Franklin was 10); her pre-teenage motherhood (she gave birth to her first child at age 13 and had two more children before she was 18!); her legendary weight problems; her serial romantic failures and her failure to promptly pay creditors. Mr. Bego's book is probably the best we can do for now, since Ms. Franklin has categorically refused to divulge anything of substance about her life (and has obviously admonished others close to her to do the same). It will probably be a while before a much more accomplished writer comes along to do what cannot be done in Ms. Franklin's lifetime: give a fully balanced and well-written account of her life and times.
GOOD OVERALL LOOK AT THE QUEEN OF SOUL'S CAREER.......2005-08-12
Bego's biography is a balanced view of the multiple-decades-long career of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. It begins with her gospel-influenced childhood and takes the reader on a resilient career track of the probably the greatest female soul vocalist of the 20th century. It also includes an exhaustive discography of both her music catalog and Grammy awards. The true fan will laugh, empathize, and be touched by the singer's personality, commentary, and quotes. No fan should be without this volume.
Forever a Queen.......2002-09-05
After reading Ms. Frankin's lackluster autobiography, it was almost refreshing to read an unbiased account of the legendary life and career of this soul matriarch. This book is very detailed in tracking the career of Ms. Franklin and tells of the accolades as well as the lowpoints in her career. I found most comical the section in relation to Aretha's infamous fashion sense, but ultimately appauled by that tasteless photo of her in a one peice bathing suit with fishnet stockings showing her backside in concert. How disgusting was that!
I, too, hailed the Queen after her riveting performance of "Nessum Dorma" on the 1998 Grammys and I continue to follow her career in hopes that her legacy continues to be upheld with the upmost respect. I hope that in twenty years, the author can add another update of amazing accomplishments to this edition. Good read.
For students of twentieth century American music history.......2002-01-06
Now in an updated and expanded edition, Aretha Franklin: The Queen Of Soul is the compelling and inspiring biography of one of the most amazing, remarkable singers with a five-octave voice. The many challenges Aretha Franklin has faced in her life, from parental abandonment to the illness of her sister, are candidly recounted, along with her will to survive and prosper, which can clearly be heard in her soul-stirring music. Highly recommended reading for students of twentieth century American music history, as well as a "must" for all Aretha Franklin fans.
Disappointing.......2001-07-08
This book is a great disappointment! Bego's sequel to The Queen of Soul happens to be nothing more than what he clips from past articles! If you value your money, don't buy this book. Because all you will read is his first book on her and just old articles about her.

Dame Jean Alexander Please!.......2004-06-23
If it was up to the late Lord Laurence Olivier, I bet Jean ALexander would have been made a Dame for her services to the BRitish television drama, COronation Street. Jean's contributions to the British soap as Hilda Ogden. In fact, she received the praise and respect of fans including Lord Laurence Olivier and John Parkinson C.B.E. I can't wait to read it! She is a British National Treasure who has played the beloved Hilda Ogden for over twenty years. It is an outrage that she never received any British National Honour for her services. Even though she left COronation Street, it earned its highest television rating. YOu can now find the beloved Jean Alexander on The Last of the Summer Wine playing Auntie Wainwright. Still, a British national treasure who should be honoured for her wonderful talent in making us laugh and cry.

Customer Reviews:
We want more!.......2005-08-09
What a pleasant surprise! This book had my attention right from the start, and I'd find myself laughing out loud on occasion too! Jeni's Inbox was beautifully written and kept me intrigued right `til the end. I only wish now that I could learn what happened to the other characters in the book, did Aidan find love? How did her brother turn out? Did her co-worker live happily ever-after? So many more questions to be answered, I guess I'll just have to wait for the sequel - that's a hint for you, Mr. Evans! We want more!
Pitter-Patter.......2005-08-06
I thoroughly enjoyed "Jeni's Inbox", and this coming from a person who doesn't usually read "novels"!
The characters are believable and charming, with of course, Dylan being my personal favourite. How true when he writes that "well-placed self-esteem" is the most important personal quality in a prospective mate. Jeni confirms by stating "self assurance = self-esteem = self secure". Dylan continues to impress when he writes that "there's a certain intangible something which cannot be manufactured. And **that** is what I want."
In another email he writes, "I find that good packaging often sells an inferior product to the less-discriminating consumer. That said, there's nothing to equal clothing of refined elegance and substantive style to compliment a person of engaging quality." How refreshing to have a reasoned approach to the whole question of appearance in today's meat market, and while we are on the subject of being sensible, he also writes, "starving in a garret for your art is no excuse when there are plenty of interesting and fun things to do in life that also pay the bills reliably."
Jeni's thoughts on the matter of looks also ring true. "Men often assume things about me based on my appearance; that I'm a snob, I think I'm better that them, I must have a boyfriend, or `a woman like her would never be interested in a guy like me'."
I laughed out loud with email subject lines such as "Pitter-Patter", when Dylan responded to Jeni after receiving her picture for the first time, and stating "Gosh, you're cute. Gosh? Where the hell did that come from?" How totally endearing! I also chuckled when Dylan joked to Jeni before they actually meet, "I was horribly disfigured at a very early age in a freak baking accident."
It is very refreshing to have a romantic novel written by a man, and this fact certainly restores my faith in what I believe a true and deep relationship should be. I have handed over the book to my daughter, who is `20 something'as she has faced issues similar to Jeni's such as, " Waiting for a man again. Watching the phone...", or when Jeni says to her friend Mary, "Isn't the beginning of a relationship when you can't get enough of one another? You don't want to hang up the phone, you don't want to go home..."
As a final point, as you near the end of the story, you can't put the book down as you HAVE to know if Jeni and Dylan make it as a couple...for you to find out in a delightful read...
Just really, REALLY good.......2005-06-30
I read Jeni's Inbox during a week vacation between two "Confessions of a Shopaholic" S. Kinsella books. Suprisingly, I find it to be more touching and closer to real life: It is like chatting with a girlfriend about men, work and seeking THE love (our favorite subjects). I had to double check twice that the author is really a man... well, he certainly understands us!
Jeni's Inbox is the perfect gift to a girlfriend or yourself: a book that will make grumble about men a little bit, cry a little bit and laugh a lot!
Sweet romance.......2005-05-09
The characters in this book are endearing, especially Dylan who is the romantic guy every woman dreams of.
My favorite part of the book is their e-mail exchange.
I like the fact that a man wrote this book, it's a nice change from the violent, suspense-filled books with psycho characters. (Not that women don't write these as well...)
Anyone having lost faith in love and romance should read this book and anyone still believing in these will find comfort in this story.
Book Description
Within hours of the September 11 attacks, Sean M. Maloney deciphered that Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda were the aggressors behind the despicable act. A war in Afghanistan then was inevitable. As a military historian, Maloney was determined to go there to study and record the events for posterity, if for no other reason than the education of his future students at Canada's Royal Military College.
What resulted is an in-depth and up-close look at the planning stages, deployment, and aftermath of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. In Enduring the Freedom, Maloney presents a rare on-the-spot view from such important locations as Kabul, Bagram, and Kandahar. He describes the American-led intervention in Afghanistan and the conduct of the war through early 2003, then discusses the events of 2003 from the three locales in detail.
Some critics contend that the war in Afghanistan is another Vietnam. Maloney rebuts that appraisal, pointing out that as opposed to the vague language of the Vietnam era, American objectives were clearly stated for Afghanistan. Those objectives were: to destroy al Qaeda's networks, training camps, resources, and communication systems; to destroy any governmental entity providing support or sanctuary to al Qaeda; and to undertake reconstruction efforts to ensure international terrorists can never again use the country as a base. The first objective has more or less been achieved. How to accomplish the last two is still widely debated, and Maloney offers some insightful thoughts and opinions. Finally, he offers educated advice going forward in the hopeful completion of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Customer Reviews:
Solid information but poorly written.......2006-08-29
This book provides a detailed account of OEF but it is so poorly written that it is difficult to get through the text. Maloney needs an editor make sense of the long, convoluted sentences. He did his research, but botches the book with his writing style.
Book Description
From the nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize 2006:
“The most urgent and disastrous threat to world peace today is the looming danger that Iran will produce nuclear weapons. . . . Kenneth R. Timmerman, a U.S. expert on Iran, has for more than twenty years exposed Iran’s nuclear activities and intentions. . . . Despite the illusions of many in positions of power, he has been right, again and again. His latest book, Countdown to Crisis: The Coming Nuclear Showdown with Iran, lays out this ongoing scandal in chilling detail.” —Per Ahlmark, former Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden, nominating Timmerman for the Nobel Peace Prize
IRAN: THE REAL ENEMY
Who is the greatest threat to America? The Islamic Republic of Iran.
In his chilling new book, New York Times bestselling author Kenneth R. Timmerman uses his exclusive access to previously classified documents, Iranian defectors and officials, and high-level intelligence sources to lay bare the true nature of the Iranian threat—and America’s failure to deal with the danger.
Crisscrossing the globe, Timmerman takes readers into secret terrorist gatherings in Tehran, tense meetings in the White House, debriefings at an obscure CIA outpost in Azerbaijan, diplomatic face-offs in the Kremlin, and many other dangerous spots to get the complete story on Iran’s radical Islamic regime.
And in a brand-new chapter for the paperback edition, Timmerman reveals that it may already be too late to stop the Iranian regime. For Americans interested in the truth about Iran, Countdown to Crisis may amount to a call for action—or even a case for war.

Countdown to Nuclear Horror: Modern Iran = Evil Regime.......2007-07-21
This is one fantastic book with full historical documentation of the Iranian government's atomic energy program, and support of radical Islamic terror groups.
The Iranian government's support of insurgent killers who murder, torture, and maim innocent Iraqi civilians and American soldiers alike is another very serious wake up call for the west in our collective attempts to stabilize those nations like Iraq and Afghanistan plagued by war and civil terrorist violence.
The UN also has a responsibility to prevent the Iranian government from obtaining nuclear warheads, on top of sanctioning them for their rouge activities.
The president of Iran is a shrewd and media savvy individual, but also a hate filled and dangerous man who the west should always keep their collective eyes on.
All western nations, and Israel should be on guard, and on alert from the Iranian government's unscrupulous, and vile activities while holding full resolve in confronting Iran when or if the necessary time comes for possible confrontation.
All terrorist groups supported or allied with Iran should be immediately destroyed by full western military force, and all political and economic efforts by the UN and the west should be utilized when confronting the Iranian government on her nuclear ambitions.
Detailed Analysis of Iran's growing threat.......2007-06-18
Timmerman goes right through the history of Iran's growing threat - both the motivation and the nuclear program. He details all the signals that the US ignored and downplayed, as well as the willful blindness on the parts of our allies and the IAEA. After you read it, you will be fully versed on the topic.
A great book..........2007-06-13
...for 100%-pure bigots. If you want to reinforce your prejudices, your Coulterian demons, this book is for you. If your friends are tired of your quoting Coulter, now you can impress them with quotes from this pseudo-intellectual Timmerman. Countless assertions are made in this hackjob which the author makes no attempt to substantiate, but which are clearly designed to increase your level of hatred against people you don't understand.
Read this book, memorize the hooks, and go back to your favorite rightwing chatroom, where you can impress your bigoted pals with your newly found pseudo-knowledge.
By a bigot, for bigots. Wish I had thought of this grand way to make a pile of bucks.

TWA 800 , Beirut , 911 , Hamas , Dhobar , USS Cole .......2007-02-10
Countdown to Crisis: The Coming Nuclear Showdown with Iran
1. Iran has Uranium enrichment centrifuges and used to convert uranium into fuel for nuclear weapons.
2. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has used Germany made tunneling equipment to bore into a mountain creating six tunnels. Two underground chambers house 15 nuclear warheads. The tunnels are disguised with a rock door. Two tunnels house Shahab-3 missiles that can be driven outside and launched in 25 minutes; likewise, the missiles can be moving the missile quickly back into the protective cover of the mountain, in the case of a counterstrike.
3. Harden underground near Isafahan is though to be a location where uranium hexafluoride is produced as a nuclear weapon fuel.
4. Weaponized labs near Parchin produce HMX, a non-nuclear lens that triggers a nuclear bomb.
5. UN IAEA turned a blind eye to Pakistan nuclear mastermind Dr. Abdel Qader Khan, who in 1986 signed a nuclear consulting agreement with Iranian leadership. Dr. Khan facilitated black market supply chains for the last 18 years, the inventories are bear, and it is believed that Iran possesses enough fissile material to produce 20 to 25 nuclear weapons.
6. Iranian officials were involved in 911 and collaborated with Al Qadea: provided passports, safe haven, intelligence assistence, secure communications, training in explosives and airline hijacking. Murder is one tool the ruling clerics used to disrupt opposition "Velayat-e faghih".
7. July 26,2001 Hamid Reza Zakeri defected and disclosed a the 911 plot to CIA operatives. In Zakeri's, 5 page letter, he describes "impending terrorist attack", however, the CIA thought Zakeri was lying. Zakeri sketched out the organization chart for the Iranian Shadow Intelligence Organization and revealed that Ali Akhar Nateq-Nouri was the top man and Mustafa Hadadian reported to him, Zakeri's boss. The 911 attack was to happen on the 20th of Shahrivar and strike: the World Trade Center, the Whitehouse, the Pentagon, and Camp David.
Countdown to confrontation:
1. Apr 12, 1996, Hussein Mohammad Mikdad, a Lebanese Shiite was instructed by Iranian handlers to hand carry a bomb onto an El Al flight in Tel Aviv.
2. Iran financial funds Hamas groups to disrupt security stability in Israel
3. Homayoun Maghadam, a member of the Iranian People's Party, describes an elaborate RAAD plan.
4. June 10, 1996 Homayoun says the Republican Guard Police and Iranian Defense plan to hijack a U.S civilian airline using Lebanese surrogates. The CIA can not use the information because it is not a specific airline threat lacking a date and location. The information can not be communicated to the airlines. The airlines do not want generalized threats because of the negative impact to their business.
5. June 20, 1996, CIA meets with Homayoun but can't confirm his "Elvis" source.
6. June 24, The Defense Intelligence Agency Middle East is told a plan is unfolding in Saudi and two days later, the Khobar Towers are bombed.
7. July 11, Homayoun reports that "attack on US civilian airliner is imminent".
8. July 17, The TWA flight 800 explodes, 20 minutes in the air, and 230 people die. The bomb is thought to be a double device: standard chronometer that delays activation and barometric that triggers the bomb at a certain pressure.
9. Apr 1997, Iran's Shahid Hemat Industrial Group test fires a R-214 rocket engine; the R-214 was a component of a Russian Intermediate rage nuclear missile from an SS-4, a mille that supposedly was destroyed under the 1987 INF treaty.
10. 1994, Iran turned to Russia after the failed test of the No-Dong/Zelzal 3 mille developed by North Korea.
11. Iran claims development and production of a new missile called the Shahib-3. The Shahib-3 gives Iran the capability to launch an unconventional warhead on Israel. Russia is becoming more active in Iran's nuclear missile program and Iran benefits from Russian advisors and shipment of missile components.
12. Russian missile cooperation has been accelerated by Vevgeny Primakov, the foreign minister in power, in 1996. Primakov believes Russia stands to gain from a stronger Iran as a counter against US influence in the Persian Gulf.
13. Yuri Koptev, a member of the Russian Space Agency is also involved in the transformation of Iran.
14. Russian Federation Security Doctrine states, "the main external force potential capable of creating a threat to Russian Federation military security and to Russian economic and political interest" is the US: conventional Forces in Europe and encroachment in the oil-rich Caspean sea.
15. July 21, 1998, The Shahib-3 prototype flew 620 miles Southeast from Shahroud toward the Persian Gulf and consuming 100 seconds of fuel burnt then is exploded midair. The Shahib-3 has a range of 800 miles and could read targets as far away as Tel Aviv and possibly Cairo.
16. Aug 31, 1998, North Korea test fires a multi stage missile called the Taepo Dong and the missile travels over 1,000 miles and overshoots Japan.
China:
1. July 7, 1991, Li Peng had a 3-day stop over in Iran with the purpose of determining if Iran would pay for Chinese weapons. The culmination of the trip, the two leaders signed $5 billion agreement for military, industrial, and economic packages. Li told the press that China would provide the expertise and technology to complete the Iranian Busheir reactor. China would help Iran build the manufacturing process that would allow Iran to nuclear components for their reactor. China backed off building the 27 megawatt heavy-water reactor under threats they would lose most favored nation status, if the deal went through.
2. China provided Pakistan assistance with its weapons program. China was heavily invested in Pakistan nuclear infrastructure, in some sensitive areas it was easier for China to operate through Pakistan than deal directly with Iran. Iran and Pakistan ancestral hatred was a concern between the two communities; Rafsanjani acknowledge strong ties to fellow Shiites in Pakistan but the commitment only extend through charitable foundations, not meddling in the domestic affairs; Iran was committed to developing strategic cooperation with Pakistan, and was pleased to have China's blessing in this endeavor. Pakistan was producing new weapons with Chinese help in Islamabad and Lahore and eventually Pakistan and Iran concluded a defense treaty. China gave Pakistan bomb designs, equipment, and technical assistance. Pakistan turns around and sells it to Iran.
EPCI
1. 1990, Bush passed the Enhanced Proliferation Control Initiative to prevent military technologies from reaching Iran. Under EPCI, U.S. exporters were required to obtain a license to export any goods-even a pencil or screwdriver-to foreign entities or projects of proliferation concern. The regulation called on Commerce to develop a black list of such projects and make it available to exporters. The Commerce never published a blacklist, for fear that identifying projects and entities of concern would jeopardize U.S intelligence sources and methods. New trade restrictions signed into law by President Bush in 1992 prohibited high-technology sales to Iran altogether. Despite this US exports to Iran increased in the ensuing month under G-DEST authority of the commerce department. In 1992, 60 of the $750 million worth of US goods and equipment shipped to Iran were subject to Commerce Department shipping. By Oct 23, 1992, the percentage of licensed goods dropped to mere 2.5 percent of total exports. Among the equipment shipped under G-DEST authority were toxins (medical research or bioterror), microorganisms, turbojet engines, vacuum pumps, centrifuges, machine tools, gas separation equipment, large hydraulic presses for metal formation, gas chromatagraphs, and mass spectrometers; also, a series of high-powered computers, worth close to $1 million each. The commerce department classified these items as "Low-level equipment". Lantos name more than 230 companies that were selling technology and equipment to Iran.
Interesting Polemic Backed by Facts.......2006-12-31
Kenneth Timmerman's 'Countdown to Crisis' was interesting for what it is. He outlines Iran's quest for nuclear weapons and how they have put their clandestine program together. He also draws attention to al-Qaeda's relationship to Iran. He weaves in horrific stories of Iran's hand in terrorism inside and outside of Iran for further effect.
Considering Iran practically admits it desires nuclear weapons this book seems more like history than an expose. Much of his intelligence regarding al-Qaeda is from an Iranian defector named Zakeri who the CIA and others believe is not reliable. Timmerman also seems to elude that the CIA has an interest in sheltering Iran which is difficult to comprehend.
Even though it appears that Timmerman is familiar with all sides of the Iranian resistance, it seems he does not understand Iran well. There are a fair amount of 'cheap shots' and sarcasm throughout the book which make it seem more like an editorial than anything scholarly. Timmerman comes across as an idealogue and almost xenophobic, although he is apparently well traveled.
Timmerman assumes that the Iranian government needs to be changed but does not lay out the case for that opinion. In the last chapter he suggests some ways that could be done which are far from complete. He does not care for Reza Pahlavi or the Mujahedin-e Khalk, but suggests that we support pro-democracy groups inside Iran clandestinely. It may be a good idea... if reliable, legitimate ones existed. He also paints a picture of a sea launched nuclear weapon near the East Coast which came across as nothing more than a scare tactic for a knock out punch.
After reading this book you will know that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons and that they may have had a working relationship with al-Qaeda- if Timmerman's sources are to be trusted. You will not understand the internal politics of Iran or the nature or history of the United State's relationship with Iran. A much better and comprehensive book in my opinion is 'The Persian Puzzle' by Kenneth Pollack.

A Guide to the Nightjars, Nighthawks, and Their Relatives.......2000-06-24
If you love to listen to the sounds the nightjars make at night, then you must have this book to keep them around. I have never seen a book give so much detail about their habitat and history. And now I finally know the difference between a Whip-poor-will and a nighthawk. This is a great reference book for everyone.
