Great book.......2007-07-31

This book proved not o be only satisfactory to me, but also to my daughter's english teacher. There are 4-5 different activities for each letter of the alphabet and each activity involves something preschoolers and kindergarter's are already familiar with, such as airplanes and bubbles. Each activity is a refridgerator paper and can be easily reviewed as well as inform those not so close-by relatives what your children are learning. Great book, would recommend it to anyone who is having a difficult time developing ideas for beginning letters.

I borrowed this book from the local library and loved it. (I have the late fees to prove it). So I went hunting online and here it is on Amazon. Awesome book with illustrations, supply list and step by step on how to do your art project. My son is 3, you could easily use this for kids much older. The projects are fun even if you already know the alphabet. Use it for rainy day ideas. This week we made pet Rocks (our letter is R). My son went around telling everyone about his pet rock. Buy it - you won't be disappointed.

At first, this item was advertised as the complete book and MUSIC of Hairspray, but I should have known that would not be available for purchase. I expected at least a couple songs of the music, not just the lyrics, because of the advertisement. Really pay attention to every specific word before you order anything.

Hairspray can only be described as a big HUGE bubble of joy that pops off of the stage and into your lap. It is so fun, bright, colorful, and exciting that I can't help but giggle with delight when I think about it. To answer the previous poster's question, this is the complete libretto; that means it has the book (script) and song lyrics. It also includes cute and colorful pictures of the Original Broadway Cast.

Hairspray is love. If you love Hairspray, you'll love to own and re-enact it every day with your very own script. If you haven't seen Hairspray (you poor thing!) you can read the script and enjoy it just as much as I do! It's super duper funny, hip, and has a lot of heart.

I also highly recommend the OBC recording. Not as good unless you've seen it live with all it's super high-energy goodness, but amazing none-the-less!

PAPERBACK VERSION.......2007-10-01

I got this one in hardback from the public library before I bought this paperback version. I liked the hardback version, but I was disappointed with the paperback version and here's why:

It appears as if the pictures are copies of copies of copies taken out of the the original hardback and copied right on some copier rather than done correctly all over again, and there is at least one VERY GOOD picture M I S S I N G!!!!--one of my favorites--where Bob is reading a magazine or paper up close and he has his hat on. (For someone not a finicky Morris like me, this book is just fine and dandy.) NOT DONE RIGHT IS ALSO A TOP FAVORITE: the one where Bob Dylan is playing chess at a French cafe--REALLY REALLY GOOD ONE, I love that one very much--but it still seems COPY OF COPY OF COPY quality--IT IS DARK AND GRITTY. The quality of the pictures in the original hardback book are FAR superior. and I SEE it. I did a copy of the one at the cafe on a copier before I returned the book to the library and believe me it is BETTER quality than the one in this paperback version!!! AAAAHHHHH!!! Maybe people won't notice, but I do notice it. Unfortunately I had to return the hardback book to the library.

TELL THE PUBLISHER TO R E D O THIS BOOK PROPERLY AND RESPECT Bob Dylan's fans because we want quality pictures. Paperback is okay to save the forests, but the quality of the pictures has something to do with the process and technology that they use. They just dished out a paperback version and copied the pictures from some other copies (as I see it) just to make money with no concern about the QUALITY OF THE PICTURES.

May I also suggest Dylan: Visions, Portraits & Back Pages as a book with FAR FAR FAR SUPERIOR quality pictures.

Please do this PICTURE BOOK all over again, PUBLISHERS!!! These pictures deserve FIRST QUALITY production.

These photos will absolutely break your heart.
They will break your heart absolutely. If you love Dylan and the mythology he created around himself, this book will give you a glimpse behind the curtain. The images of Joan Baez and Dylan are so gorgeous you'll want to duck out of your busy life and cry for five crucial minutes. The image of a back-lit Bob and a shadowy Joan in profile is a just, simple ode to these monoliths. These photos give us what we've intimated about Bob all along.

This seems to be a reprint of a book that first came out in the 60's. I still have my copy but it's a smaller format than this reprint. It is chock full of great photos of Dylan being whimsical and eccentric, posing in a studio setting. Very professional. All seem to be from the "Highway 61 Revisited" period (1965)when Dylan affected a "mod" style of clothes, including polka-dot shirts and Beatle boots. This is a treasure for any Dylan addict. Except for one essay, the book is all photos without text.

The book is excellent for beginners or intermediaries as it gives various basic techniques and tips on crocheting. if you are one go for it !!
However, if you are looking for various pattern and stitch variations try a book that focuses more on that aspect.

I received this book at the same time I received the DVD Stitches in Motion. I scanned the book and it is very informative but I find the DVD more helpful. To be honest, I really haven't given it a chance for I haven't had the time to be able to give it a honest rating.

I am a beginner in crocheting and thought this book would be beneficial. Now, I've only just started reading the book and have yet to put what I've read to the test but I'm already a little frustrated with what I'm reading and the explanations. I feel as though the reading is slightly confusing and the illustrations aren't as effective as I had hoped they would be as I do learn visually with things like this.

This is the best beginner book on the subject of crochet that I own. Stitch-n-Bitch is great, but doesn't go into as much detail on some aspects. The explanations in CFD are clear, with good visual aids, and the projects are realistic for beginners. (I learned to crochet as a child in the 70s but am now returning to it and actually finishing some items now that it's back in style). You can't go wrong with this book--I refer to it again and again.

I bought this book as a person with some crocheting experience and no knitting experience who wanted to learn more of both. I liked that it included the essentials--needles, stitch markers, point protectors, little scissors, etc; and it showed the absolute basics of both. I found the illustrations and steps to follow very clear and easy, but whenever I wanted to do more than just those basics, I was lost and needed to purchase additional books. I think this book is good for people who want to try a little of knitting and crocheting and decide which they want to learn more about, but not to depend on as a tool to learn any techniques.

If it doesn't teach a beginner the basics, how good can it be?.......2006-07-11

We decided to take up knitting. (I spend entirely too much time watching baseball games; I should at least do something with my hands.) So we picked up Knitting & Crocheting for Dummies at a local craft store. I should have kept walking, instead.

The package includes two sets of needles and a crochet hook. Unfortunately, that's the only justification for this book.

The major criticism is that this book hasn't taught either of us to knit. I flipped through the pictures and the text, and somehow didn't feel inspired to try. My husband sat down with the full intention of learning the skill -- and he still couldn't figure it out. (This is a guy who has taught himself woodworking and software programming skills from books, so it sure isn't his weakness.) There are a few drawings, but not enough, and they aren't very clear. He did manage to knit 20 stitches before he gave up on the instructions, but the exercise was accompanied with lots of cussing.

I took two books out of the library on knitting basics, and both of them -- accompanied with plenty of photos -- are significantly better than this purchase.

I hated this book.......2007-05-09

I am a progressive, and I hated this book. I have no intention of reading it again, and if it wasn't for the fact that this book is required reading for my English class, I would have never read it. You are probably asking yourself, if I hate this book so much, why did I give this book the grade I did? Well, for a simple reason. While I hated this book, it accomplished what it set out to do. It showed me better ways to convince people to my side of the argument (which is why my English teacher assigned it for his Critical Thinking class). That is the entire purpose of the book, to teach other people how to present an argument, and how to convince people to your side of the argument. Read it if you want to have a better idea of how to present an argument. Don't bother reading it if you want to learn more about the Progressive agenda, the book is way too biased, and you'll end up thinking all conservatives are evil, and that everything is one giant conspiracy made by the conservatives.

Academic writing style but extremly helpful concept........2006-02-25

Several friends recommended this book to me to help me understand the incredible success that conservatives have had in "framing" the debates. In particular, the neocons have caused us to abandon the term liberal, label the Dems as "tax & spend" and sucessfully install the rhetorical title of policy issues without regard to their accuracy. For example, "death tax", "Leave no Children Behind", "Clean Air", Healthy Forests", etc., have almost the exact opposite effect of their titles.

Also, they seem to be successfull in getting even Democrats to believe their propaganda disinformation war. For example, Dems believe we "have no policy", "nominated two ne'er-do-wells" for president, and that we are "hopelessly devided" and too "politically correct" to ever win anything but dogcatcher.

Whew! Do you need a purgative to expell the toxic reality we have swallowed from these sophisticated marketing masters of spin? I certainly did. And thank goodness George Lakehoff has given us just that in his book about these fixed mental paradigms. Read it! Pass it on! We must learn the nature of Karl Rove, et al, and their win at all cost strategies.

I have purchased multiple copies for family and friends. All report finding the book to be helpful and heartening, reminding us that Democrats are the party of people who care about the welfare of others. Get the blindfols off and start working with the simple truths Mr. Lakoff has given us. I am hopeful that all the people can't be fooled all the time - but it obviously takes each of us to work for understanding and then fight against demogoguery.

P.S. Watch out for you-know-who tricksters who will write reviews to damn the book through faint praise. Sadly, supporters of this administration are not above dirty tricks.

At last -- a clear understanding of Republican rhetoric.......2005-08-14

George Lakoff's thin book cleared away the fog and let me see why Republian words that confuse ME are appealing to so many voters. Why FACTS don't win elections. And showed me ways to "REFRAME" my ideas and present them with effective, value-based wording. One of the most important books I personaly have ever encountered. I found the DVD a valuable addition -- it clearly summarizes the book, reminds me of the primary points, and is a great way to present these core ideas to others. This great tool will help progressives compete more effectively in upcoming elections.

the book is as interesting as I heard it was, but the dvd is a waste of money. Save the extra 7 bucks and just get the book.
