On hard to find art.......2007-06-04
Finding a good book of drawings of a particular artist who is known for his beautiful drawings can be difficult. Those books that are available are generally very expensive. It is with this knowlege that I recommend this book. The paper is average, the selection and size are nice. I would question some of the croppings, and there were fewer than I would have liked, but I don't know how many Pontormo drawings are publicly available, so few are better than none.

It's OK for studying his drawing technique specially if you want to do master drawing copying.

The Content is fine, paper quanlity is bad.......2006-11-07
I brought this book on my long flight to kill sometime. The letters are big and the book is fun. The only thing that I don't really like is the paper quanlity. It's coarse and pages are easy to fall out.

It is a puzzle book.
This Sudoku book is filled with puzzles rated easy to hard. They will strain your brain and sometimes leave you puzzled!
Sudoku is a new form of puzzles originated in Japan, which has just recently come out. The level of puzzles range from gentle to diabolical. The puzzles are 9 by 9 grids that are subdivided into 9 smaller grids of 3 by 3 squares. Each puzzle has only one solution.
Sudoku is the best kind of puzzle there is. Sometimes it is easy and sometimes it is hard. It is hard to put down. It keeps me awake; it helps me stay sharp and open-minded. I would definitely recommend this book to others. It is addictive and I find myself doing Sudoku during class, standing in line, and on the bus.
Another great Su Doku book - the big squares make this book good........2005-09-11
In his first Su Doku book, "The Big Book of Su Doku #1", Huckvale presented many Su Doku puzzles that varied in difficulty. From 4 x 4 squares to 6 x 9 squares to 9x9 squares to 12x12 squares. In this second book, he adds in jigsaw and Doubles, along with varied difficulties in the puzzles. The jigsaw and doubles aren't necessarily more difficult but it gives a nice twist, just something different. But the main reason I like Huckvale's books better than other Su Doku books I have seen, is that his squares in the puzzles are large. This means you can actually make tiny notes to yourself when trying to solve the puzzle. Compared this to other books where the squares are quite small and it makes it more difficult to make notes. Thanks for the big squares!

Jubal Anderson Early (1816-1894) ranked among the most important generals who fought with Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. A brigade and corps commander, he played principal roles at the battles of First Manassas, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and most of the other engagements in the Eastern Theater during the first three years of the Civil War. In 1864 Early commanded an army in the Shenandoah Valley, winning several victories and menacing Washington before suffering ignominious defeat in a series of battles against Phillip H. Sheridan's Union forces.
Originally released in 1866, Early's is the first personal account published by a major Civil War figure on either side. A creator of the Lost Cause myth that exalted Lee and his Virginia army above those of other states, Early anticipated arguments that later Lost Cause writers would make regarding Lee's and Grant's generalships, the reasons for Confederate defeat, and the conduct of Union forces in Southern states. Containing elements of both battlefield narrative and apologia for his actions and those of other Virginians, Early's brief memoir helped shape the ways in which white southerners wrote about and understood the Confederacy. In a new introduction to this edition, Gary W. Gallagher explicates Early's military career and examines the general's postwar career as a Confederate apologist.

For the nay-sayers, you've missed the points in this well-written
and expressed book. The numbers of 1% or 10% as quoted from
the post earlier, could have been a possible typo. However, the
points were well received and explained: Many plants thrives on
CO2 (carbon dioxide); the trees are not dying because of it or lack
of it, they're dying because of the viral diseases made by men
filled with rage and hatred from all over. [Another book about this
should follow.]
This book aligns well against the promises of oil for the families of
Abraham (that's us in the USA) in the book of Genesis: "Oil will be
abundant and found...."
I will not be surprised to find ecological terrorists and conservationists
teaming up and sabotaging the efforts of USA finding oil near our gulfs.
In fact, it is so hard for the USA to find oil 50 miles off the Florida
Panhandle when China (who has just recently) struck oil of over a million
barrels in the same area! The USA gets chewed on for destroying the
areas of lush-land when in fact, it is the USA who is more alert to
prevent creating catastrophes. Those acceded to the throne conservationists
should be hunting those countries who proliferates often in the seas
with toxins (like China, North Korea, to name a few). There are
more accidents caused by those in the East, South America and Far East.
The author should take a course in basic math.......2006-11-06
I bought this book looking forward to reading evidence that oil came from a geophysical process rather than biological. I still hope that is true, but this author has almost completely convinced me against it.
I've never read a book with so many mathematical errors. I'll give a few examples of the many that exist. There's a section from page 72-78. Throughout this section, the author uses million, billion and trillion interchangeably as if they were the same number. On page 83 he states that carbon dioxide makes up one tenth of one percent of the atmosphere. On page 85 he states that it makes up a full one percent. He then procedes to do some calculations that are off by a factor of 10. On page 103 he mentions how much carbon various countries are putting into the atmosphere. He says nothing as to time. Do they put this much out every day, year decade...who knows!
The author's main argument against his opposition is 'They're stupid because they don't believe what I believe.' He seems to think if he calls them stupid enough times in enough ways we'll start to realize what a genius he is. One example of this: He says that big oil fields are being found in the ocean below two miles of water. He ridicules the bio-oil people mentioning what idiots they must be to believe that this area must once have been above water for dinosaurs to die on it and become oil. I wonder, did it ever cross his mind that bio-material is continuously falling to the bottom of the ocean by the billions of tons. The material would thicken, come under pressure (even more than the water provides) and over millions of years plate tectonics would move it deep into the mantle.
He unashamedly says we should use all the oil we want. There's an unlimited supply and man is stupid if he thinks he's powerful enough to cause global warming. In one chapter he goes into depth explaining how great it is that we import a large part of our oil. It brings mutual international investment and interdependence. In this chapter he says the U.S. uses 20 million barrels a day getting 1.5M from Canada, 1.5M from Mexico and 1.5M from Saudi Arabia. The rest from other sources. In the next chapter he rails against importing oil. In his words, "We have never before in our history experienced this massive a transfer of our national wealth overseas." etc... In this chapter we use 21M barrels a day. We get 1.72M from Canada, 1.75M from Mexico and 1.4M from the Saudis.
In summary, this is one of the worst books I have ever read. He doesn't have a clue what he's talking about and isn't even consistent in his own words. Don't waste your money buying this book. I wish I had read the other reviews before I did.
Plea to readers.......2006-08-22
For anyone who is considering reading this book: Please don't take this book to heart unless you really are objective about the issues it presents and research both sides, or rather the spectrum of possibilities out there for oil generation and production. If you are objective about this I hope your research leads you in the most likely direction. Additionally, it is okay to change your opinion on subjects and even admit that you are wrong once in a while!
Food for thought: the dynamics of oil production and consumption.......2006-04-28
Many ideas abound about oil, its scarcity or shortage, its wellspring and its history: here to puncture many myths surrounding oil is BLACK GOLD STRANGLEHOLD: THE MYTH OF SCARCITY AND THE POLITICS OF OIL, a rebuttal to the notion of oil depletion. There's more than enough oil, more reserves proven than ever in the past, and the US can be independent merely through offshore reserves alone: this and other statements are supported by analysis of the fraudulent science backing the myth of oil scarcity. Food for thought as the authors explore world dynamics of oil production, consumption, and the meaning behind the myths.
Abiotic or not is completely irrelevant!.......2006-04-04
This book appears to make the case that if oil is being produced abiotically, then all of our problems with oil supply are over. Here is a simple, virtually irrefutable argument which demonstrates that nothing could be further from the truth. Even if oil *is* being created abiotically in the core of the earth; i.e. even if new oil is constantly being created, the rate of production would have to be so slow as to be practically meaningless; otherwise we would literally be swimming in the oil created during the millions of years that humans weren't using any oil at all. To illustrate using a simple analogy, if water is dripping into a basin at a rate of one drop per hour, but you are removing water from the basin at a rate of 1 gallon per hour, the basin will be empty after some finite amount of time even though the water in the basin is constantly being replenished. Once the basin has been emptied of all stored water, the usage must be reduced from one gallon an hour to one drop per hour; i.e. for all practical purposes water can no longer be drawn from the basin. An elementary school student could figure this out. That the author of this book couldn't speaks badly for any other content the book might contain.
