Book Description
Tim LaHaye, creator of the phenomenally successful Left Behind® books, continues his newest top-ten New York Times bestselling series: Babylon Rising. The heroic Michael Murphy—“cool, brainy, sexy, and valiant”—hurtles into his second whirlwind adventure in pursuit of Biblical artifacts.
In
Babylon Rising Tim LaHaye began an adventure series that he calls even more exciting than his 50-million-plus-copy bestselling Left Behind series. Readers agreed, as the novel debuted as a top-ten New York Times bestseller.
Now, in the second Babylon Rising novel, Biblical scholar, archaeologist, professor, and hero for our times Michael Murphy is in pursuit of one of the most mysterious and sought-after of all Biblical artifacts, Noah’s Ark. As Murphy undertakes his death-defying quest to ascend Mount Ararat, he will discover dramatic revelations of Biblical prophecies and be drawn even closer to the most terrifying evil about to be unleashed on all mankind.
With
The Secret on Ararat following close on the heels of Glorious Appearing, the fastest-selling Left Behind novel ever, Tim LaHaye will further prove to be one of the most fascinating and popular storytellers of our time.
Customer Reviews:
Tim Lahaye book series.......2007-09-08
I ordered and received in excellent time all 4 of Tim Lahaye books. All were received at the very best price and in excellent condition.
Cartoonish.......2007-05-15
This is an entertaining light read for teens, with a very superficial "good guys vs. bad guys" kind of plot. The villians are all evil mustache-twirling types who threaten puppies, have an affinity for red lighting, and sneer at people. (They reminded me of Klingons.)
Along the way, the hero gets to deliver lectures and monologues on various Christian topics such as the folly of evolution, etc. On repeated occasions, people come to him with their problems, and he delivers a word or two of advice from the Bible to make their troubles instantly vanish. Those who question the hero are easily refuted and left sputtering with no response. The whole thing is a series of softballs and straw men to make the hero seem even more "good." There's not a lot of depth to the characters to engage the reader.
There is also a lot of violence in the book, many characters are shot at, pummeled, trapped, threatened, killed, etc. in various ways. While the good guys have to spend weeks climbing Mount Ararat, setting up three base camps, packing in supplies, and dealing with crevasses, avalanches, slipped ropes, weather, etc. along the way, somehow the villian is able to show up right at the critical moment on the summit - how did HE get there? (Perhaps he is a supernatural being?) Fortunately several of the characters who die manage to accept Christ just before they are killed - so it's not so bad...
Like I said, in my opinion this is light, simplistic entertainment for teens, there are a lot of Bible lessons and admonitions presented in a thinly-veiled series of sermons. But for adults, this is shallow reading.
Disappointed........2007-02-10
Where "Babylon Rising" actually inspired me to pick a Bible and read the to Book of Daniel this book didn't inspire me to read my Bible at all. The story was okay but tended to get bogged down with the side stories about the relationship issues among supporting characters. I look forward to the next book but hope that it will inspire me more.
Babylon Rising: The Secret on Ararat.......2007-01-19
Well crafted story! Hope the author continues with more adventures for the main character!!
Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful...........2006-11-05
This book was well....Wonderful! I picked it up on a Thursday and finished reading it the very next day. I was very disappointed when it ended. This book came alive to me and I felt that I was actually there with the fictional characters, and the Non-fictional characters (Noah and his family while on the ark). Lahaye did an absolutley wonderful job. I enjoyed the Left Behind series, (even though it is not scriptually correct in the most important area of getting saved after the rapture after you have already denied Christ)But this series is alot more captivating to me. I highly recommend this book!

Product Description
BABYLON RISING introduced a terrific new hero for our time. Michael Murphy is a scholar of Biblical prophecy, but not the sedate and tweedy kind. Murphy is a field archaeologist who defied danger to fearlessly hunt down and authenticate ancient artifacts from Biblical times. His discovery sent him hurtling from a life of excavation and revelations to a confrontation with the forces of the greatest evil. Now, in the second novel in the series, Murphy is in pursuit of one of the most mysterious and sought-after of all Biblical artifacts: Noah's Ark. As he begins his death-defying quest to ascend Mt. Ararat, he will discover dramatic revelations to Biblical prophecies and be drawn even closer to the most terrifying evil about to be unleashed on all mankind.

left behind wannabe falls flat.......2005-05-16
I was a big fan of Left Behind but not so much for the Babylon Rising series. For the audio narration, I find the narrator to be extremely (unintentionally) funny when trying to do women's voices, irish voices, etc. He should probably stick to just reading it...if they wanted dramatic voices they should have hired actors. The audio can get bogged down into a boring torturous mess when dealing with historical facts, lists, etc. I presume in the book these are just illustrations, but in the audio these things are drawn out into extremely long and boring diatribes. I also found the author's inept use of similes to be again, unintentionally funny...almost like Dan Rather's. Here's an example (from memory so the wording may not be exact): "the railing fell away like a stale week-old breadstick snapped in half". Ultimately the story is extremely hard to believe, no matter how hard you want to. And in the end, I could care less what happens to any of the characters, or what is coming next. And in my opinion, that is when a book has ultimately failed. In my opinion, it is obvious that it was Jenkins who made Left Behind great, not LaHaye.

Preachy, with no ending..........2006-03-13
Though at times, the action is moving along well, and the story seems to get some heat going - its got way too many preachy interludes. Finally, after having built to a dull roar - they story ends without any resolution, without any answers - almost like someone ripped the last 50 pages out of my book! If you've not read book one in this series, the author does an OK job of catching you up enough so that you're not lost, but unless you want to wait till the final book (years down the road) - don't expect any resolution to anything. Too much obvious preaching that doesn't add anything to the story, so it sticks out badly. The ending (if you can even call it that) of this book left me so completely unfulfilled that I wish I'd never picked it up at all.
an easy and cheesy read.......2005-09-29
OK - so if Noah's Ark is up there on Mt. Ararat, why do the Turks, CIA, et al keep the site restricted? ...as well as periodically in the news? (Is "Restricted" the same as "Consecrated by the Powers that Be," perhaps?) That is a genuine mystery. No doubt a decent spy satellite and a competent alpine team with helicopters and National Geographic photographers could have long ago given us a status report, but they haven't. So the genuine conspirators that know, know, and the rest of us can just wonder what they know and why they don't tell us. So LaHaye and friend spin a novel around this genuinely weird state of affairs. Murphy, the very masculine Christian Indiana Jones kinda hero, exuding purity, chivalry, faith, and wisdom, not to mention having some really fine chops in the martial arts, sets out to prove that the Ark exists so that people will take the warnings given by the Bible of "the fire next time," seriously and disregard the theory of evolution. I suppose some might, but not enough that I could personally ever buy that premise. (Hey, it's not even Biblical.) Sinister conspirators who happen to be Antichrist worshippers, work hard to stop Murph, because they DO buy the premise. (Give me a break!) Our hero makes it all the way to the end of the story and the reader is let in on the secret on Ararat. And, hey, we're set up for another, No. 3, in the "series." Before this book, loaned me by a friend, I'd never read anything by LaHaye, so I can make no comparison with his other stuff, nor can I tell how much of this he actually wrote. So that should tell you that I have avoided LaHaye's Left Behind series for several reasons. No regrets there. This story, as one of the jacket blurbs says does remind one of the old Saturday serial. Not real challenging, but entertaining if you like this sort of stuff. Best points: reminds readers of the real mystery of Ararat, and suggests that ante-diluvian technology was fairly advanced. I suppose I was surpirsed to see that Murph's new love interest is named Isis, and that he referred to the Epic of Gilgamesh. Now that is one worth reading and pondering - along with the Bible and another of my favorites, Plato's accounts of Atlantis.

Book Description
The only thing I felt was a strong hand around my neck, another around my waist, and -- before I could cry out -- I smelled the thick, sweet scent of a mandrake-soaked cloth. Unforgiving hands clapped it against my face, and all went dark.
Alaïs, the king of France's sister, is abducted while on her mission for the wily Eleanor of Aquitaine, the former Queen of England, to retrieve hidden letters that, in the wrong hands, could bring down the English king. In exchange, the French princess was to receive long-heldand dangerous information. Now Alaïs, along with help from the very intriguing leader of the Knights Templar, must unravel a tangled web of family secrets and lies.
Filled with intrigue and peopled with compelling legendary figures,
The Canterbury Papers is an "electrifying journey into the past" (Booklist).
Customer Reviews:
Something Missing.......2007-06-17
This book let me down in that it is rather superficial. I wanted to know more about William and Alais, but sadly this part of the story was underdeveloped to my taste. It is not a suspense novel as the title suggests. It is a personal journey for an ill used young woman trying to sort out her past. The love she finds in the end is like water on the sahara, for she has been pierced to the soul by her family and those she thought she could trust. She is haunted as much by what she does not know as by what she does, and there is something truly touching that a man who has known her all her life, and loved her for as long, should be the one to finally help her sort out the tangle and begin to heal. This novel left me wanting, for I had hoped to see the end to this most touching union, and it never came. I think the author wanted to concentrate on the time period, historical fact, etc. But I think the real story was in the love of this man for a very strong yet wounded woman. Too bad.
An excellent read.......2007-03-20
I finished this story in one seating. The author wrote a fasinating medieval mystery about Princess Alais' possible son with King Henry II. This is a book worth reading; done by a writer who did her homework well.
this was ok.......2006-06-25
I kept waiting for it to get better, and there weren't any characters I really felt sympathetic to.
The Canterbury Papers.......2006-03-29
Princess Alais of France on a mission for Eleanor of Aquitaine. This is life after King Henry, after Richard the lionhearted, and during the reign of King John. Alais is sent on an errand to Canterbury to retrieve Eleanor's letters, which could affect the fate of the kingdom. They might also contain information about the fate of Alais's son. Who might have been a potential heir to the throne. This makes the matter of interest to the Knights Templar.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I think that you will too. If you find you like this book, and would like to know more about the family. I can recommend the video (Becket), its sequel, the Lion in Winter (with peter O' Tool and Katharine Hepburn) that's on DVD.
Light, fun, surprisingly sweet.......2006-01-09
This is no sweeping historical epic, and as a mystery, it's not exactly groundbreaking in terms of plot. However, this is a fast, entertaining, intelligent read. While it's not a "romance novel", the love story it contains is quite touching. It's nice to think of a medieval woman--a fictional one, at least--overcoming the prejudices and pitfalls she faced due to her gender, and bravely making a satisfying life for herself.

Book Description
Low-fat cooking expert Sue Spitler has created these special dishes with a wide variety of palates and preferences in mind. Appetizers, more than 500 entrees, salads, soups, breads, and desserts offer even the choosiest vegetarian a rich choice of satisfying meals. Allowing for vegans, lacto-vegetarians, ovo-vegetarians, and lacto-ovo-vegetarians, she labels each recipe with an identifying icon. Nutritional information and diabetic exchanges are included for each recipe. There is also a new chapter, "Menu Express," which contains recipes and meal plans to prepare and cook in less than 20 minutes.
Customer Reviews:
One of my most used books.......2007-06-09
I'm not even vegetarian and this is one of my most used books, especially in the summer when fresh fruits and vegtables are abundant. Very tasty and adaptable recipes.
This book is the bargain basement of vegetarian recipes:.......2007-04-26
Having gone veggie a few years ago, this was my first non-introductory style vegetarian cookbook, and although I commend Spitler and company for the sheer quantity of recipes here, I've found the recipes to be very hit or miss. I think this is partly due to the often non-intuitive combinations of ingredients found in many of the recipes. While sometimes these out-of-place ingredients are genius (i.e. the black -not adzuki- beans in the egg rolls, or the more than liberal use of celery seed in the bleu cheese dressing), sometimes these combinations can turn what seemed like a tasty dinner into something even my dog looks askance at (like the orange juice and zest in the hummus or the cream cheese and cranberries in the savory wontons). The dishes err more on the sweet side of the palate than on the spicy side. That said, all of the dessert type foods I have tried so far have been solidly good, while the majority of the entrees required a healthy dose of crushed red pepper. My suspicion is that these recipes were generated by a crew less than adequately familiar with vegetarianism, as many of the recipes attempt to make use of meat substitutes (i.e. Mexi "meatball" soup, rigatoni with italian "sausage" and fennel pesto, "burgers" provencal, swedish "meatball" and dilled potato cassarole, etc, etc)with less than appetizing results. There are a least two problems here: first, there are plenty of amazing veggie dishes that don't try to imitate the "meat and potato" style meal (there are almost NO Indian entrees in this book), and second, nothing makes one miss the real thing more than a poor substitute. Yes, those tvp crumbles look innocent enough in the grocery aisle and are easy enough to throw into the pasta sauce, but unless you want to spend you're evening sobbing over your half eaten plate of "sausage" lasagna for your momma's home cooking, then PLEASE skip the phoneys and throw in some chopped baby bellas instead. To summarize, this book is like the bargain basement of vegetarian recipes: over-stuffed with so-so items, but amidst the bland and the out-and-out bad, there are a few gems that make this book deserving of a place on your shelf.
As a bonus for those tracking diet information: each recipe is tagged as vegan, lacto-ovo, lacto, or ovo, to make finding appropriate recipes easy, and all recipes come with calorie counts, basic nutrition information, and the exchange listings for the ADA.
great reference.......2007-02-05
I bought this because my friend has this and made so many great recipies from here. It's huge with many great recipies that I use very often. My only complaint would be it's no frills without photos. Everything I've made is great... hard to believe it's all healthy!
Every Recipe a Winner!.......2006-07-11
I've had this cookbook for six months or so, and I've made somewhere around 40 of the recipes. Every one has been a huge success! Sue Spitler understands that vegetarian doesn't have to be boring. I've fed non-vegetarians meals made from these recipes and have had rave reviews! If you're new to vegetarianism, or if you want to bring excitement to your meals, you have to own this cookbook!
Interesting recipes, Excellent Nutritional Information.......2005-08-26
PROS: This book is wonderful for those who are planning low-fat meals for dieting purposes. Even before I prepare the meals, I am able to see the total nutritional information for the serving for that meal. It also gives me greater flexibility to omit or half some of the ingredients that are higher in fat grams (for example if a meal says 5g fat per serving I choose to: a)omit the oil or oil based (or high fat) ingredient OR b)half the serving). Knowing the nutritional values in the meal gives me freedom to manipulate it until I'm satisified that I'm getting the lowest fat intake possible. The book is beautifully laid out based on meal categories (eg. Soups & Stews, Sauces, Veggie Express, etc.) So I decide what I want for a meal and then I turn to that page. One note to buyers: I recommend that you browse through the meal ingredients the day before to get an idea of what you need to buy at the store. Each recipe is labelled so that each vegetarian type would know at a glance whether that meal is right for them. WONDERFUL!
CON: Some of the ingredients asked for are too exotic for me to find where I live. (e.g. cactus leaves, achiote oil, adzuki bean). This isn't too much of a CON, since I can skip those meals and choose something else.
This is a wonderfully laid-out book with a wealth of dishes that allow you to be creative with vegetarian meals. I highly recommend it!

Short on time, need to feed your family on a budget?.......2005-01-26
There are no exotic ingredients and no fancy techniques or equipment needed for these recipes, but a busy family will be well fed and if you use the book as it's intended no one will say "Meatloaf, again??" when you dish up their supper. The book lies flat on the counter and the cover can be wiped clean; two real virtues when you have no time to linger in the kitchen. The idea of Egg Foo-Tata with Chinese Brown Sauce made my Asian girlfriend groan, but I noticed she cleaned her plate anyway. Author Rick Rogers is a practical kind of guy and his no-nonsense book fills a real need.

retro fun.......2004-03-04
This cookbook from decades ago, once all the rage for starving grad students and others on a tight budget, is a great nostalgic read. Although by today's world cuisine standards, the recipes are limited in scope, nevertheless they are tasty and satisfying. If you come at this book from a "retro, kitschy" approach, you may be surprised. (Or maybe not. It does satisfy at that level also!)
While the meatball recipes look as if they may all taste alike (and many do), they are quick, inexpensive, and do indeed fill up a hungry family. The three criteria may be all that matters, some evenings, to a person-in-charge-of-dinner at the end of a frazzled day. If your Trader Joe groceries are running low, turn to this book to find a "step-back-in-time" meal of oldtime American cuisine!

Doll crazy.......2007-05-07
A great book with patterns to copy to make more clothes for Barbie.
Beautiful and Inspiring Book!.......2006-05-31
I spend hours looking through this book, imaging what kinds of fabrics to use for each vintage dress design! The author has really easy-to-understand instructions for many of Mattel's original doll outfits. It makes me, a novice seamstress feel confident and excited about sewing. It brings back memories of my childhood and watching my older sister sew clothes for my barbies! I can't wait to start making clothes for my daughter! Highly recommend.
Content impacts the rating........2005-09-19
A very detailed and describing book. Many detailed pictures.
I am somewhat disapointed in the content though. Would have expected more advanced or exiting outfits.
Many of the outfit are more "basic" than "Vintage".
Vintage clothes.......2005-07-21
There are some really sweet outfits to make for fashion dolls and patterns and instructions that make the job easier. Photos are bright and clear.
Great for Beginner or Professional.......2005-04-28
I own several pieces by Marirose and she is a dream to work with. Her work is top notch and I admire and respect her talent, but this is a review of book.
I can barely sew and these patterns work for me. I've made 3 of them so far and I have trouble even threading a needle or running a machine. The layout and explanations make sense to an amateur.
On the other hand, she reproduces patterns here for some very rare and hard to find fashions that a Professional could certainly enjoy making.
It's a great book, from a wonderful lady.
I can't say enough good, except to add that she did not ask me to review her book or anything like that.
Go Marirose!

Book Description
Isn't it romantic? Whether for a Valentine's Day card, a wedding or anniversary page in a scrapbook, or a découpaged box, these charming Victorian-style illustrations are sure to warm the heart. The breathtaking pictures include a pretty postcard adorned with sprays of flowers; a lovely image of a bride surrounded by her attendants, all dressed in their finest bustled gowns; an old-fashioned marriage certificate, just waiting to be filled in; and a variety of ornate letters and frames. Some of the art have the original captions, including one of a couple sweetly dancing, with her cheek resting on his shoulder, which says: "Let us glide through life together." Or use the quotes by such writers as Robert Browning and Shakespeare.

Best Clip Art Ever!.......2005-07-10
I bought all of the available books from this publisher and I am enchanted by each and every one of them. The selections are beautiful, unusual, unique and applicable to a wide range of projects and applications. The images can be copied from a high quality CD-ROM or copied on a toner printer with fabulous results. There are many clip art books with CD-ROMS available by high end and popular publishers at a much higher price. This series is heads above all of them.
I am in the process of making a scrapbook for my 18 year old goddaughter. I found many images that apply to many of her interests and experiences. There are also many images that beautifully depict stages of childhood and life. I was frantic (of course this is all done at the last minute!) to find music images. They exceeded my expectations for beauty and quirkiness.
I usually do not recommend books, and I am a book junkie, at this level of praise but it is well earned,

Book Description
"Tell me, Harry, what's the consensus in your cell block on saving the Old Met?" That line spoken in Whitney Darrow, Jr.'s New Yorker cartoon by a prison-visiting wife indicated the feeling generated as scheduled demolition of the 83-year-old Metropolitan Opera House drew near. It's hard for the generations of opera lovers born since to realize the emotional impact when the Save-the-Old-Met drive failed to halt that demolition. Among those who reacted was Judith Clancy. As a small girl living in a New York tenament her love of music and the dance had been nurtured from the Family Circle high up in the Met. She returned to New York before the demolition to make these drawings, the last of which was finished as the lights went down for the final performance in the house. Her book--drawings and text--is a personal last portrait of that house by a talented artist who dreamed there as a child, studied there as a dancer, learned there to love ballet and then the opera and who was courted there.

Come back to us!.......2005-11-10
Listen but once please to me, girl. When I was a punk in the mass company of punkhoodship in the seventies, no-one dared like you, because it would have been social suicide!
Today, all those punks - YES! AND ME! - love you and your music to bits. I challenge YOU, AGNETHA - to listen to any daytime English (yeah, 'popular') radio station and NOT find it at least refreshing to listen to those great ABBA songs again. Just for one song, pretend it isn't you and appreciate the plaintiff gutsy calls of those two girls - never dated; maybe never will. Then compare it for a moment to the slack, indifferent, monotone garbage of today? Please don't get ten years down the line and decide I was right! You're gorgeous! Come back to us?

Absolute drivel........2004-03-24
As a huge fan of all things ABBA (really) I was excited to pick up this book, as, for once, I would have loved to have heard Agnetha really stand up for herself and clear up any and all misconceptions about her that she has always said exist. Alas, with this book, it just shows how uncomfortable she is speaking about her life. The pictures are amazing, yet they are just pictures and without any revealing print, show the shallowness that is AF. I mean, if you're going to write an autobiography, then WRITE AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY! She just comes off as a poor little whiner, scared of her own shadow and distressed by the fact that she was (and still is, reluctant as she is) an enigmatic star. She doesn't like to fly, doesn't like to talk about her relationships, and, until recently, just liked to stay home or take long walks (which does not make compelling reading...she seems more like a boring, dull-as-dishwater housefrau than your typical celebrity!) But I think there is much more to Agnetha than she has let on; I just refuse to believe that she is this flat and boring. This book asks more questions than it answers. Re-write, please!
One book to fall in love.......2003-12-10
I have read parts of different books about ABBA, but I have never liked to read the books about my favorite group.. for different reasons - and the main one is because in all these books it was not ABBA members' points of view, but the different person's. This is why I decided to try "As I Am" - not only because Agnetha Faltskog has been my favorite star for 10 years. I started the book the very day I took it in my hands and I was not able to put it aside and go to sleep until the next morning, when I finished it. I just could not go to sleep until I finished!
The book is interesting, it is really very interesting. The style is nice and easy to read, although never plain. The authors shared their opinion on many points and revealed many questions one, who is interested in ABBA or Agnetha, can feel the need to ask. There are some funny and witty momnets that can easy make you smile. And which was the main point, for me at least, you can see the author's thoughts, her opinion on many things, her attitude to many problems. Agnetha really shares a lot with this book. It is not thrue that this book is empty - it is just fuul of deep thoughts of the wonderful woman, she shared with readers.
Oh, yes, and pictures - the pictures are great! This book alone is enpgh to feel in love with the author. Thank you, Agnetha.
Sincerely,
Tatiana
Interesting Stuff!.......2002-10-02
Agnetha is a wonderful singer and interesting person. It is a pity that sometimes her talent is not portrayed that well in books on ABBA. Some authors are just not
capable to handle such a task. I do not like most ABBA books for this reason. Carl Magnus Palm e.g. pops out one book after the other without ever talking to
Agnetha herself. And without being fair to eighter her talent or successful long time career. His ABBA stories are merely a simple reprint of the ABBA interviews
that were printed in magazines during the years, illustrated with pictures we have seen before. Boring.
Brita Ahman's book 'As I Am' on the otherhand is a new book with a real new (1997) interview with Agnetha. Okay, Agnetha could have been more open and
talk more about her frustrations during the ABBA years, her fights with manager Stig and her currentlife. But she does shine a light on the kind of person she is. She
reveals how she got into the showbizz. To me 'the early years chapters' are the most interesting. It is nice to learn that she had music in her at a very young age,
how she felt when she turned into Swedens biggest popstar and how ABBA was created (it is the detail in these stories that interest me.)
Being an ABBA fan for years I read the book 'The complete recording sessions' (the only decent book by C.M. Palm) and was intrigued then by Agnetha's
involvement in ABBA's records. Her voice is a golden thread in ABBA's music author Brita Ahman writes in As I Am, and she is right. Even today Agnetha alone
is more ABBA then Benny, Bjorn and Anni-Frid will ever be.
As much as I like 'As I Am', I have to say that there is so much more to Agnetha's life and music then this books reveals. In Holland and Belgium a fantastic book
called 'ABBA - On Speaking Terms' is released. I've been told it will be released worldwide too. Look out for this book, fellow fans! Together with 'As I am',
'ABBA On Speaking Terms' gives you the most complete and revealing insight in Agnetha's life with and without ABBA! And the pictures, both old and new, are
rare and stunning. Buy 'As I am' and especially 'ABBA - On Speaking Terms' and get to know Agnetha (and ABBA) the way she really is!
Wow!.......2002-04-17
I saw this book on the internet when I was about 10, and have longed for it ever since. I tried 100's of ways of getting it but no matter what, it was Unavaliable. Then, yesterday, my best friend had it for me, after almost 4 years of wanting it really badly! I sat down and read it cover to cover - twice! It is the best book you could ever hope to read, and has a family photo of Ingvar, Birgit, Agnetha and Mona in it, the only photos of her sister, Mother and Father you can find. I really recomend this book.
