While this book does have plenty of quotes and sayings to choose from, the organization doesn't make a lot of sense. When you're quickly looking for a motivational quote, you end up referencing several different sections to find what you're looking for. Don't get me wrong, it's fine and has plenty of content but it's just not intuitive to use.

I picked this book up in a store to browse through while waiting for the wife to finish shopping. Started laughing so hard at some of the entries, I had to wipe the tears away. Other sayings were insightful and wise. Ended up walking out of the store with it.
It's great for the bathroom or bedside. Easy to pick up and put down at any time. The reason I'm here writing this is because I plan on purchasing some copies for relatives as gifts.

Probably would best serve entry level speakers. Quick reference for simple needs. The kind of stuff "Inro to Speech" in college was made of. Sparce, very sparce, on the humorous side and lacking citations for many quotations. I'll keep it on the shelf but it won't be the first place I look for quotes or quips.

this book would come in especially handy for an individual who speaks in public. chances are if you're looking for an ice breaker or a clever anecdote, it's in this book.

I Love Lucy: Celebrating Fifty Years of Love and Laughter.......2006-03-22
I purchased and sent this to my daughter, teaching in Namibia, Africa as a birthday gift. She and her roommate in college, use to run home, each day after their last class, to be sure and watch a I Love Lucy rerun on television - it was one of their "stress relievers" before they "hit the books". She said it did the same thing in Namibia, after teaching 3 English classes and 3 Environmental Management Classes, monitoring the new Library, and an HIV/AIDs club for her students/"learners" - a 12 hour day (plus class planning for the next day and correcting papers)!!! She's only 28 years old, but I Love Lucy is TIMELESS. She also received the first five year episodes. Thanks to Amazon.com for making this so easy for me to be able to do this for my daughter!!!!
A Lucy Book Not to Love .......2005-04-11
With so many Lucy books out there, you would think the author and publishers would try to make a knockout book to stand apart from the competition. Amazingly, this book "authorized by CBS Broadcasting Inc. and the Estates of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz" is one of the weakest books on Ball and/or LUCY I've ever seen!! Let's start with the photos. As many have mentioned, their reproduction is just awful. They resemble pictures in a vintage tabloid or cheaply printed pulp magazine from years past. The sepia tinting (black and white photos colored one color) might not have been so bad had the images been sharper (despite the fact that "sepia" photos were not in fashion in the 50's but in the 20's and 30's!!!); the photos that are very small here you can barely make out the subject's faces! The publishers/designers may have been going for a vintage look but it's not appropiate to the 1950's and even if it was, it's just not appealing in a 21st century book.
The bulk of the book consists of pages on each "I Love Lucy" episode with a brief paragraph describing the plot and a bunch of trivia questions. "Trivia questions" belong in paperbacks not an expensive book and it's clear they are only here for padding the pages. Anyone who needs to know anything about the I Love Lucy episodes will find everything they need and then some in Bart Andrews "I Love Lucy" book, you certainly won't get any major new information here.
The only nice things in this book are the interviews with Keith Thibodeaux ("Little Ricky") and writers Jess Oppenheimer, Madelyn Pugh, and Bob Carroll Jr. The photos of latterday Lucy memorabilia are ok but nothing special.
Lucy diehards want all the books on her of course but unless you find a copy of it super cheap, make this one close to the bottom of your want list.

I received this book as a birthday present, and have enjoyed reading and looking through the numerous amounts of memorable pictures this book has to offer. It takes you through each episode, giving you little known facts about each episode, and provides excellent pictures from each episode. Anyone who is a fan of "I Love Lucy" show strongly consider buying this book!!!
The Best Lucy Book On Earth.......2002-03-04
I was DELIGHTED with this book. It featured biographies, the compleye episode guide with interesting coincidences and facts. I really liked the episode guide. It featured rare seen pictures, script lines, and a summary of every one. Plus, it also tests your lucy knowledge, with over 500 trivia questions and answers. It also features facts many books or episodes don't. For example: When Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz eloped in 1940, where did Desi buy the last-to-minute brass wedding ring he gave to Lucy? Read the book to find out!!

I like the way this book explains the games. They are concise and the preface of the box gives a good description of the terms used to describe the games. This is nice to give you something to refer back to. Also, the illustrations of each layout is very nice.
The New Testament for card players........2002-10-09
If According to Hoyle by Moorehead was card-game bible when I was a child, this book was certainly a new testament.
I really didn't fit in well with other kids, so I had nothing much to do. So, I studies solitaires. But I had 150 ways to play solitaire, and all that book did was confuse me.
When I found this book at KayBee many years ago, I was most impressed. It's the clearest book on cardgames that I have ever read. They're even thoughtful enough to create two games, Joker Klondike and Joker Canfield.
This book will clarify almost any game, and I still pull it down from the shelf. In fact, I think I'll pull it out right after I've finished posting.

I bought this book so I could learn different ways to play solitaire. It has pictures and plenty of instructions. I do wish it had a few more pictures so I could see how they were saying to lay them out but all in all it is pretty good.

I find this book to be very helpful in learning different solitaire games. Some games don't include layout diagrams but the instructions are well done. I highly recommend it for a beginner solitaire player.

The very interesting travel adventures of Frances Mayes, the author of a popular book about living in Tuscany. She goes into great detail about the food and the sights. Most of the countries she describes are in the Mediterranean area.

I take some issue with all these negative comments. This book is best read over about a month in snippets, there are many chapters and some excellent writing, in fact this book inspired me to go to Portugal and a few other places I wouldn't normally think of. I am sad to agree with Frances, call me a snob, I do try to avoid certain types of Americans while travelling. You know them when you see them. Internatinal travel is about getting to know the locals, not some crass American (or Brit, or Russian, take your pick) on a adult spring break. I found myself, at times, thinking, well Frances, I wish I had the luxury to travel as you do, but again, she is wealthy and retired. Someday! Let's face, her kind of travel takes research and sometimes it isn't as easy as hopping on a cruise ship and getting a cliff notes tour. Again, I have to agree with her, who would want that? Not me.
Pretty in small doses.......2007-07-21
Frances Mayes writes lyrically, giving a certain poetry to her travels and leaving the reader with a sense of sunshine, crisp linens and savory, satisfying meals. However, the writing is slow, sometimes self-important, and thick with description. Mayes has a heavy inner dialogue that references favorite writers and poets and memories of Georgia and other travels. There is a sense of name-dropping as well, a little bit of haughtiness that may come off as condescension. Several other reviewers have noted that Mayes has little regard for her fellow American travelers, and she does write with a sense of superiority.

Like many of the other reviewers, I enjoyed her Tuscany books. But by the end of this book, I can't stand her anymore. I will never buy or read another of her books. It's a shame, because there is some lovely writing here (the only redeeming factor that allowed me to give this book two stars rather than one), especially about the food and some of the nice people she has met.
But in the end I think she is a self-righteous elitist. What was the final straw is when she was on Capri, and she looked at a group of tourists getting off a boat and thought if there were any Americans she didn't want to know. Ugh. Lady, those are the people who have bought all your books and made you and your weird poet husband Ed gazillionaires.
Speaking of Ed, I couldn't believe it when he was so sick in Morocco and she decided to leave him in the hotel room and go off on a tour of the place. You have got to be kidding me. How uncaring and selfish -- if that were my husband I would be doing whatever I had to do to get him back home and to see that he was comfortable so that he could recover.
I now feel about Frances Mayes the same way I feel about those people I was friends with for years and now no longer speak to or have anything to do with -- I will take some lovely memories of our time together, but it's best in the end if we just part ways.
Boring snob.......2007-07-02
This book is okay - not great. I love travel books but the author's snobbish attitude got on my nerves. She deigns to go on a cruise and then cruelly mocks the tacky fat vacationers. She is constantly writing with disdain about tours and group travel and pointing out the superiority of her way of travel, renting houses. Near the end, she sees a group of tacky ppl and she and her husband run away, afraid that they will be Americans. Sounds like she went on some great trips, but I don't care to travel with such an obnoxious brat.

Book Description
Drawing from more than 120 newspapers, published between 1968 and 1970, this study explores the emergence of an anti-militarist subculture within the U.S. armed services. These activists took the position that individual GIs could best challenge their subordination by working in concert with like-minded servicemen through GI movement organizations whose behaviors and activities were then publicized in these underground newspapers. In examining this movement, Lewes focuses on their treatment of power and authority within the armed forces and how this mirrored the wider and more inclusive relations of power and authority in the United States. He argues that this opposition among servicemen was the primary motivation for the United States to withdraw from Vietnam. This first book length study of GI-published underground newspapers sheds light on the utility of alternative media for movements of social change, and provides information on how these movements are shaped by the environments in which they emerge. Lewes asserts that one cannot understand GI opposition as an extension of the civilian antiwar movement. Instead, it was the product of an embedded environment, whose inhabitants had been drafted or had enlisted to avoid the draft. They came from cities and small towns whose populations were often polarized between those who wholeheartedly supported the war and those who became progressively more critical of the need for Americans to be involved in Vietnam.

GI resistance as detailed in this book through the underground newspapers which projected the collective voice of unrest amoung enlisted men and women, is not only a unique history of GI protest during the Vietnam War, but also a timely look into the blogs, newspapers, letters, and broadcasts of the soldiers in Iraq who resent being kept there for what they believe are the economic interests of large, American corporations.

Civil liberties versus national security: new issues raised by a new kind of war
The modern laws of war that emerged in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were developed with a particular concept of war in mind-one that does not apply to the conflict with our current adversaries. With the September 11 attacks the United States found itself engaged in a new kind of war, with new dilemmas that needed new rules. Terrorism, the Laws of War, and the Constitution examines three significant enemy combatant cases-Padilla, Hamdi, and Rasul-that represent the leading edge of U.S. efforts to devise legal rules, consistent with American constitutional principles, for waging the global war on terror.
The volume's distinguished contributors analyze the crucial questions these cases raise about the balance between national security and civil liberties in wartime, discuss critical separation of powers issues, and call upon the courts, the political branches, and the country to reexamine the complicated connections between the Constitution and international law. Useful for the interested attorney.......2006-06-26
This edited book is useful for attorneys that follow constitutional law issues and the debate on Qitmo detention issues. John Yoo writes an easily understood article that summarizes the Bush Admin argument. Unfortunately, the other authors were not selected to offer a different argument. Regardless of the absence of competing arguments, the summary of the enemy combatant cases is comprehensive and two authors provide unique perspectives of the response by the three branches of US govert. In short, four of the articles make this book worthy of your time, but buy the used book.
