This book was as interesting as any other biography could be, however, the authors did manage to use a very nice and flowing format. Organized from point to point, never spanning more than three pages, and following in chronological order from Leonardo's illegitimate birth to his ordinary death, the books writing style is very easy to follow and is easy to pick up at any spot.
Priwer and Phillip's book is very informative, and anyone looking for research information about Da Vinci would likely consider this a Holy Grail with its factual yet interesting points. On an overall reading scale, however, for anyone simply looking for good read, this book would probably not suit as well (unless the reader has a terrible Leonardo fetish).
In the end, this book is great for someone more interested in facts rather than an interesting story line. Another strong point of the book is that it suits readers of all ages because of its easy to follow format. I would have to rate this book as a 3, don't be afraid to check it out, it's not bad!

From the 1950s to the 1970s, these movies were staples of Mexican cinema, combining action, horror, sex, science fiction and comedy into a bizarre amalgam aimed to please the whole family. Chapters examine the roots of the phenomenon, including the hugely popular masked wrestling scene and the classic Universal horror films from which Mexican filmmakers stole without compunction. Subsequent chapters focus on El Santo, Blue Demon, and Mil Mascaras, the three most prominent masked wrestlers; wrestling women; other less prominent masked wrestlers; and the insane mish-mash of monsters pitted against the heroes. Bobb Cutter Cuts Through The Lucha Crap .......2006-08-25
This book is the bible for fans of masked wrestling films! "Bobb" Cotter's writing style is informal and fun to read yet highly informative. His book is literally crammed with every possible tidbit of information on the wrestlers, directors, producers, actors, and actresses that made the golden age of Mexican psychotronicness possible. He also seems to have a genuine fondness for the personalities behind the cameras; with the possible exception of Doyle Green's for more difficult Mexploitation Cinema, this book is your average fan's only chance to catch a glimpse at what went on behind the scenes at an El Santo film.
Filmography is also an invaluable tool in figuring out what Lucha Libre film's NOT to buy. There are after all over 100 of them! As a fan of the genre who (for the most part) enjoys watching the films, this book has helped me to spend my hard earned pesos on fun films like El Castillo de las Momias de Guanajuato and avoid turkeys like El Aguila Real. Consider this book an investment if you're going to collect some of the films.
If you're only going to buy a single book on the topic, make it this one.

My first exposure to Mexican wrestling movies came from seeing a still in a magazine that showed a match in which one wrestler had a spider for a hand. Any genre that can go that far is worth exploring, and this book does a great job of providing an overview of Mexican wrestling and monster movies. The author has spent a lot of time studying these films, and it shows in the detail. In addition, the subject matter is treated affectionately, rather than as something to be derided. Unfortunately, actually watching these movies can be a chore. They are a lot like Japanese monster films: the buildup is a lot better than the payoff, the acting is atrocious, and you find yourself marking time until the next wrestling match. That this author was able to watch so many films and write about them so entertainingly is laudable. Whether they'd compel me to watch some again...I'm not so sure. I'm content in knowing that I have the best sourcebook available if I ever engaged in a late night debate on Mexican wrestling movies.

Having read the other books of Mr. Miller and enjoyed them, I was looking forward to this little book. I think Mr. Miller has finally lost the plot! He is so uncritical of the show it's an embarrassment. His critical faculties have sailed out the window! HAIR's music is a Wonder but it's lyrics and book (?) are atrocious and often gibberish. I am shocked that Mr. Miller has descended to this "tribal" love-stuff. He never steps back from his subject and discerns its weakness. His efforts have actually steered me away from this musical. A terrible thing has been done in Mr. Miller's name.

This is one of those reference material books. A classic and must read for anyone and everyone desiring to attain any level of success. This book is one that you must go back and read many times as you will not gain all the insight by reading once. This book highlights a valuable life lesson that it's not all about me. The author with passion and excellence explains in no uncertain terms "The Game". I imagine that this was a labor of love and catharsis for the author. Once you have the information do with it what you wish the responsiblity is yours. Remember knowledge applied is wisdom.

"Empowering Yourself" is an excellent source of information on how the real game is played. This is a book that needs to be read twice. The first time you read Coleman's work, you will feel helpless, angry, and even have the desire to revolt against the status quo. The first reading really motivates you to either change the system or merely give up even trying to play. On the second pass, you really get a feel for the power of this book. You realize that "Empowering Yourself" is a blueprint to success. Coleman is merely providing the reader with the design for success in the world we live in. It is up to the reader to decide whether it is worth going through with these plans. The analogy which I get from this book lies in the similarities between the "Rules of the Game" and the laws which govern gravity. We have all had the desire to fly, unbounded by the earth, flying free as a bird. But to do so, we would have to suspend the laws of gravity.As much as we revolt against physics, the laws of gravity will not be broken by man. Neither will the power structure which we currently live under (at least not in our lifetime). So it is the readers choice to learn to fly by man-made methods, become a modern day Don Quixote and fight the windmills of societys power structure, or be content to travel the earth by foot. This is a must read for all those who want to fly and are willing to pay the price.
