Book Description
This magnificent book traces the dramatic evolution of Raphael’s style, from his earliest work as a competent master of provincial church decoration in Urbino to his later, masterful paintings in Rome. With beautiful color illustrations of more than 90 of the artist’s paintings and drawings, accompanied by detailed catalogue entries and informative essays by distinguished scholars, the book is destined to become a classic text on this revered Renaissance artist.
Included in the book are discussions of Raphael’s origins in Urbino, his earliest influences, and his first works for churches in Umbria and the Marches. The influence of Leonardo and Michelangelo on the young artist as well as the flourishing of his art under the enlightened patronage of Pope Julius II are also studied in detail. The book concludes with two short essays on Raphael’s great Vatican frescoes and with a look at the artist’s longstanding reputation and the presence of his work in many great British collections.

Tank Girl .......2005-04-16
Tank Girl does not make sense, she can out run Mr. Whippy. She Does not like you. Tank girl is mean. The drawings by the hewl only bare SLIGHT resemblance with the gorillaz drawings he did. They have nothing in common. If you think you do, you deserve to have your copy of tank girl 2 and all others you may have stolen.
If you hated the movie?.......2005-03-08
You may be one of those people who asked themselves, 'Why in $^%$# did they make this movie? That is in regard to the textbook case of Hollywood compromise and dreck that was the incredably dissapointing film version. Well the answers are in the pages of one of the best demented comics ever made. Unfortunetly, movie execs couldn't greenlight a purely sociopathic superheroine who mows down her enemies and can not hear their screams (cause her personal stereo is on too loud!)So she had to have a name (in the movie) and a little girl to save (just like the heroine in another movie, you can here the pitch meeting! It will be like Aliens meets The great rock and roll swindle with a little Kissing Jessica Stein thrown in.)No plot (who needs it!)loads of sarcasm and self parody, lot's of pointless violence! The best punk rock comic ever made. If you like Gorillaz videos, that's about as deep as it gets... only funnier.
Printed Insanity, not for everyone.......2003-11-20
Tank Girl is the epitome of a cult classic. It is definately not your traditional comic, there isn't much plot to speak of, nor is there much depth in the stories. This is not the book to read for concise social commentary or introspection. This magic of Tank Girl lies in its incredible art, cathartic writing, and the interaction between the numerous insane characters (as well as the characters and the creators). I would reccommend Tank Girl to someone with a very twisted sense of humor and an open mind. It's not for everyone, and does take a different mind set to appreciate. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is that one or two of the stories in this book were a little too slow at points, and some of the pages were too cluttered. These are minor gripes, but I don't want to say it's a perfect collection. But worth the $.

But it can, my friend, with one simple purchase-Tank Girl: The Gifting # 2. A perfect blend of the sublime and the ridiculous, brought to you by Tank Girl writer and Co-creator Alan C. Martin and the format-smashing, antipodean wunderkind artist Ashley Wood. Glad to see you back, chuck!.......1998-06-05
Although it's sad to think that there may be no more Wallace and Gromit films (the animator, Nick Park, seems to be into other projects at the moment), this comic book captures a lot of the Wallace and Gromit spirit. There are a lot of wonderful little sight-gags (check out the titles of the books Gromit reads) and the storylines in the two adventures are similar in wackiness to those of the films. Still, it's a little disappointing not to get to see Wallace and Gromit _moving_, and you have to imagine Wallace's voice (though the authors did do a good job of conjuring up things he would be likely to say). There are a few rough spots, but in general it's a very good comic-type book, very funny and rereadable. If the Aardman folks don't see fit to make more Wallace and Gromit films, I hope there will at least be more "adventures" like this.

This is the book to buy.......2007-02-01
When starting an elementary chess club, there were things I needed to learn and be able to teach. I have read alot of chess material, but this book by far had the best step by step outline of chess which was clear and extremely easy to follow. It also has a wonderful index in back which is terrific for easy reference for my club members. I recommend this book for beginners and intermediate players.
An easy book to follow.......2005-12-28
This is an exellent book. It's one of the best beginner's books in chess. I also recommend World Champion's Guide to Chess. Both are excellent, easy to follow and thorough.
...Polgar avoids wordy text and lines of movement.......2005-01-03
"Alpha Teach Yourself Chess in 24 Hours" Zsuzsa Polgar ...et al, [...] ISBN 0 02 864408-5
Rates much above the typical beginner book, because Polgar ILLUSTRATES the point she is making, instead of giving you dull and boring, wordy paragraphs to read. When you see the illustration, you QUICKLY get the point of the lesson.
The author is SUSAN POLGAR, and "Zsuzsa" is the Hungarian form of our "Susan". Susan Polgar gives days and weeks of her personal time through the year, to promote chess. She is one of the most self-sacrificing chess celebrities in the entire world, totally committed to enlarge human experience through chess. She has a heart of gold where chess is concerned.
For example, the weend of 13-14 May 2006, Susan Polgar attended the annual Bert Lerner National Championships for children grades Kindergarten through 6th Grade. Many of the children taking home trophies, had the honor of having Susan Polgar appear on stage with them for photographs. Besides that, Ms. Polgar gave a simultaneous exhibition on Friday the 12th of May.
This book has a nice set of questions at the end of each chapter, with answers in the back. I also like the way Polgar has sample games that have a new diagram for EACH and EVERY MOVE in the sample games, and there are explanations for each and every move.
Chapter Nine must be mentioned, because it covers ENDGAMES. It is so important that all chess players get skills for the Endgames, and Susan gives them here.
This book is THOROUGH, and COMPLETE. I can recommend it to any chess BEGINNER as a "first book" on chess. --Bruce R. Bain, President, Denver Chess Club
Clearly written.......2004-04-28
Very good book for beginners. I especially like all the diagrams, make it easier to understand.
*** An absolutely fantastic book for beginners ***.......2004-01-25
I wanted a nice and easy book to help me teach my students. I tried the dummies / idiots series. No good! This one is simply a class above everything else out there! This book is good for both adults and children! I love it!

Would you like to increase your own selling results, or the performance of your entire sales team? The concept of Secrets of Question-Based Selling is founded on the idea that an effective salesperson knows what his or her prospect needs, then offers solutions--and the only way to find out what someone needs is to ask!
With more than 17 years of experience in sales and management, Thomas A. Freese has taken the approach that consistently empowered him to exceed, at times even double, his selling results, and has packaged it into the sales methodology he calls Question-Based Selling. This book serves as an explanation of this technique, as well as a reference guide that can be used over time by both salespeople and sales managers to exponentially increase their productivity. You will learn to:
Penetrate more accounts
Establish greater credibility
Generate more return calls
Prevent and handle objections
Motivate prospective customers
Close more sales faster
And much, much more!

Powerful Sales People Ask Questions.......2007-07-25
An excellent resource for anyone looking to connect with the needs of prospects, customers... and just people in general. I think the following is from this book (I have it posted to my wall): "You've probably heard that they best sales people are those who listen most. And that is a lie. The most effective persuaders are those who ask powerful questions that draw people out and get them to keep talking and revealing more about themselves."
Great book for novice.......2006-11-03
I read the book and found it very informative. The system works but is not really for the beginner. I felt the book could have helped more on developing the questions as well as implementation. The book was great that is why I still gave it 5 stars
If you only read ONE sales book, Read this one!.......2006-07-18
This is perhaps the best all-around sales book I have ever read. While other books point out much needed information, or say the same thing with a different perspective that is sometimes necessary to understand a point, this book should be THE starting point for any sales professional. This book has helped me greatly in my success as a sale professional. It is a sales book, a persuasion book, and a psychology book all rolled into one. Everyone seems to try to start people off with "You Can't Teach a Kid to Ride a Bike at a Seminar" by Sandler, but this book is everything that book is and then some.
Where are the differences? Other books take an elementary strategy to the sales process. First you prospect, then you get the appointment, then you interview the customer, then you give your presentation, then you handle objections, then you close, close, close! I have even heard one person ask what the point of "step 1" is....and his answer was to get to "step 2". while this is somewhat useful to understand, it doesn't help you DO it, it doesn't tell you what to do and how to do it, and it's little more than an outline.
Secrets of Questions Based Selling gets down to the nitty-gritty. He brings things to the table that you may never think about if you don't read this book. He talks about how people interact, how they need to ad value, how they mismatch, how different types of questions serve different purposes- some are solely for the benefit of the person doing the questioning and ad no value to the person answering (i.e.- What CRM product are you currently using in your company?), while others provide more value to the customer (How many customers do you think you are losing because you do not have voicemail and people are hanging up?), etc.
I have read A LOT of books on sales, and I keep finding pieces of this book in all of the other works. High Trust Selling, Sandler's work, Selling with NLP, SPIN selling, etc. They may build on things differently, but this book IS the foundation.
So, as yourself these questions:
1. Am I EVER going to read a sales book? (If so, this should be the first one)
2. Have I been reading sales books, but haven't read this one yet? (If so, this should be the next one you read)
3. Have I been reading sales books, but haven't quite found a useful one yet? (See #2, and this will be a useful book- if you learn it)
Overall, this is a GREAT book that provides a GREAT foundation to your sales knowledge. However, always keep in mind that you have to use what you learn (which means you have to LEARN it first), and that you can't hit a baseball by reading a book. Use the books to learn the mechanics, but then get up and swing the bat a few times, and then get out and hit the ball!
No Question about it.......2006-03-24
This is a Great Book that every salesperson & Manager should own. I have 30 years of sales experience in Corporate as well as Small business to business & individuals. I wish I'd had this from the beginning
Well written.......2006-03-13
This book is a well written, easy to read guide that will improve your sales success. It provides a logical system that is simple to follow. Questions are packed in the pages that narrow your focus and entice customers to engage in conversation. You will find a simple sales style for every salesperson in any field.
Book Description
She was a beautiful doelike child, with an intense, graceful fragility. In her first year, she picked up words, smiled and laughed, and learned to walk. But then Anne-Marie began to turn inward. And when her little girl lost some of the words she had acquired, cried inconsolably, and showed no interest in anyone around her, Catherine Maurice took her to doctors who gave her a devastating diagnosis: autism.
In their desperate struggle to save their daughter, the Maurices plunged into a medical nightmare of false hopes, "miracle cures," and infuriating suggestions that Anne-Marie's autism was somehow their fault. Finally, Anne-Marie was saved by an intensive behavioral therapy.
Let Me Hear Your Voice is a mother's illuminating account of how one family triumphed over autism. It is an absolutely unforgettable book, as beautifully written as it is informative.
"A vivid and uplifting story . . . Offers new strength to parents who refuse to give up on their autistic children." -- Kirkus Reviews
"Outstanding . . . Heartfelt . . . A lifeline to families in similar circumstances." -- Library Journal

ABA , effective intervention at work. A MUST read .......2007-10-14
This was one of the first books on autism that I ever read .. after a couple of more "General Information"book decribing explaining what autism is/defining the spectrum diagnosis /and treatments.
To anyone with a young "newly diagnosed" child on the Spectrum in their family . GET THIS BOOK. It will give you a better idea of ABA ( Applied Behavior Analysis ) what it is how it works. Less overwhelming then a "handbook" or text ,espeically if you are still in shock or grief with a new diagnosis that includes the word autism
Okay -This story is "best case scenerio " outcome of ABA .
But it happens to be a true story and gives hope when you really need it and is helpful look of what ABA is. It may not "cure " but it can certainly bring improvement anyway for many children.
It is written by a mother who loves her children. Easy to relate to. This was the book that showed me what ABA is , and proved it works . ABA is the scientifically proven behavior based treatment of autism and the earlier you start it the better, the authors children were diagnosed very early , which enabled her to get early intervention with ABA.
Her telling of her hopeful experience with the then popular trend of "Holding Therapy " and then her disenchantment with it as a useful treatment taht follows makes her all the more real. Her experience with a "doctor " who manipulated her words for a "spin" to the public in order market herself will infuriate you and also serves as a reminder of the reality of such opportunists. .
Reading the book you will see the shock and upset she has as she sees her daughter retreat to become locked in side herself . You see her honesty of her inital doubts and fear of the principle of ABA (discreet trial -table work) being to demanding on her child and or seeming unatural since it seems contrary to ones idea of "childhood" .
Then you witness her witness it working, on her daughter , then again on her baby son .
On the journey with the author you share in the ups and downs and see the releif of beating the odds , and losing the diagnosis . Twice .
It should absolutely be required reading for any class related to child development, getting a diagnosis EARLY is so important
Let Me Hear Your Voice.......2007-10-10
Exceptional book. Not just for those with autistic family members. A must read.
helpful but.......2007-07-11
I know aba does wonders for some forms of autism and I know this book has been a big part of getting the word out.
Like the author I have three kids though my son's autism was present from birth. One theme that is a huge issue for many families and was absent from the book: lack of resources. We are a middle class family with one car living in a fixer-upper and debt. And compared to many we do very well. Her senario of having a nanny and paying out of pocket for lots of therapy are way way beyond our means. Our insurance does not cover any therapy and they run at $140 per hour. Anytime I work with my son I have to find & pay someone to watch my twin toddlers. This runs steep pretty fast and her descriptions of traveling, affording 20+ hours a week of kid therapy, seeing scores of doctors (a one-time evaluation by a neurologist costs 5 thousand dollars in our city) and having time for her own self and nannies just left me marveling. Most families affected by autism do struggle enourmously financially and logistically from day to day. And most kids are not as responsive as her kids were to the therapy.
I am very happy for her success and glad she is spreading the word on ABA but I think she misses how most families have to struggle with the basics .
AUTISM.......2007-04-12
THIS IS THE SECOND BOOK I READ AFTER MY GRANDSON WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM. IT IS EXTREMELY WELL WRITTEN AND FILLED WITH INFORMATION ALL PARENTS/FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF A NEWLY DIAGNOSED AUTISTIC CHILD SHOULD KNOW. IT WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH A NEW SENSE OF HOPE AND DIRECTION TO FINDING AND PROVIDING THE BEST INTERVENTIONS/TREATMENTS TO RECOVER YOUR CHILD FROM AUTISM. I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND IT!
Fantastic. This is going to be required reading of new clients........2007-02-12
I am going to purchase this text for all new clients/parents who seek early intervention services I found this text so interesting, captivating, and enlightening, demonstrating a parent's perspective with the struggles of the diagnosis of a child's autism. Whether one agrees with her reaction or approach, she lays it all out in the open, exposing herself for others to learn from so that others may gain insight and perhaps learn. It also provides a good picture of what behavior modification is and how Applied Behavior Analysis works for those who have heard misinformation.
Book Description
More than fifteen POW camps housing German captives existed in Minnesota during World War II, although most people, even most Minnesotans do not know this. This is the history of those camps, where they were, how they worked, how the POWs contributed to the Minnesota economy during the war years, and, finally, when the camps closed.

Quick response.......2007-01-16
I received the book very quickly, even though it was ordered over the holidays.
A book everyone should read........2005-09-12
I enjoyed this book very much because it's a part of our history many Americans are unaware of. I was a child during World WarII and I seen the POW's working on the farms. My Grandchildren took the book to school to share with the History class and even the teacher was amazed. It's a book you will keep and re-read.
Little-known facet of World War II history.......1998-10-21
This is a book about a little known or less remembered phase of World War II history as it relates to Minnesota. It suggets the success of the Geneva Convention regarding treatment of prisoners of war in the United States. In the simple presentation of factual information, the author allows us to feel something of the fears, the loneliness, and concerns of prisoners and their willingness to work rather than be idle. The concerns of citizens are also presented clearly concerning escapes, those of labor unions interested in protecting American labor, as well as the general concern about work necessary to pursue the war. It is a facet of the war that most histories neglect.

A Virtual Waste of Paper.......2006-11-08
Very disappointing. The only interesting bits are the correspondence section and the chapter written by a survivor of an late 60s-early 70s Canadian experimental psychiatric unit. The rest I found to be an unstructured shambles. The author seems to be have over-stretched himself and there's no kind of any narrative thread. He also seems to be a bit paranoid, making statements like "By definition, all intelligence agents are liars." Also, he seems to dismiss the work of Peter Duesberg by claiming that the publisher of one of Duesberg's books is an "Ultracon". For what it's worth, I thought that the book Duesberg co-wrote, "Why We Will Never Win the War on AIDS" was excellent, so I guess that may make me an "Ultracon" too?! Also, there's very little about what it says the subject matter is on the cover: "CIA Mind Control Operations in America" and there's no proper bibliography and no index. I would recommend books such as The Search for the Manchurian Candidate or The Men Who Stare at Goats instead, or maybe even just enter "ELF waves" into a search engine.
And the world is never the same again........2006-11-06
I've read this book twice. I'll read it again. It never fails to blow me away, and each time I notice something I didn't notice before - usually because I've read something more that helps the pieces fall into place. You blink your eyes, you can't believe what you are seeing, how do they get away with writing this stuff? You wonder. Of course, you would rather be wrong. And then something happens in the world that only makes sense because you read this book. They invented the word "gooseflesh" for how that makes you feel. And the world is never the same again.
Constantine is a Zionist/Communist Apologist.......2004-11-28
I was disappointed in this book because it atttibutes all evil to the Nazi branch of the Illuminati without any reference to the Zionist Communist branch. The tips offs are 1) He defends an acknowledged Communist spy Harry Dexter White as a true patriot. He retails the lie that James Forrestal committed suicide. Don't waste your money on this book.
A Secret Establishment Behind the Power?.......2003-02-28
This frightening and almost depressing research, drive us to the quasi unknown underground word of conspiracies.
Starting in the previous years of WWII, Mr. Constantine guided us through the tortuous ways used by de nazis to get into power and how after the end of the war - in collaboration with several US agencies - infiltrated and blended into American culture, economy, society and policy but the most shocking part of this research is how these "organizations" manipulated the citizenry. Operation Mockingbird, created with the purpose of total control of the mass media, buying newspapers, magazines, tv channels and infiltrating Hollywood to influence and control public opinion. The use of innocent citizens as human guinea pigs without their knowledge or concent, the torture and brainwash of adults and children to experiment mind control techniques is the most scary part of this book that make us think and enlight a little about why so many people ended alienated, commiting suicide or becoming mass murderes without a reason. I strongly recommend this book to people who like, enjoy or have certain interest in conspiracy subject.
Best Book on American Fascism I have read.......2000-04-04
This is without a doubt the best book on techno-fascism, hell, on fascism in general, that I have ever read. This is the unadulterated, universally censored truth about domestic politics, and Alex Constantine is a couragous journalist indeed to take on the "Establishment" with intelligence and clarity. The documentation is exhaustive, and I recommend this book to one and all. I anxiously await his next tour de force.
