Great book. Lots of deatils!.......2005-06-20
I have been looking for a book that really helps me understand the "grading" process to paper patterns. I have found the book. I bought this book on accident, and I have still not been sad about it yet. It is a wonderful book filled with great ideas, and lots of illustrations to help you understand the process.
This book is not going to teach you how to pattern a costume, but this helps you adjust your design to different sizes for mass production. So if you are looking how to make patterns this is not the book, it is for someone with some training, or understanding of paper pattern drafting.

Go get all his books, particularly this one and the three Consumer Guides. All entertaining.

Too Long Out of Print.......2000-06-10
This review is based on the original printing of this book, which came out in 1973. I don't know how long it's been out of print since then, but it was too long. The articles reprinted herein cover the late 60s to mid-70s, beginning with the Monterey Pop Festival and finishing with the New York Dolls, with the Beatles, Dylan, Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Byrds, The Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, Alice Cooper, Stevie Wonder and many many others in between. These were some of Christgau's first rock writings, back when he was still developing his singular style, and as such might make this book a little easier introduction to someone encountering him for the first time. Christgau's been accused of being overly academic and big-word-loving, which is only true about a third of the time and which I personally don't mind. I'm one of the sorts who doesn't mind working a little for their pleasure, and if I have to reread a passage (or hit the dictionary) I'm more than happy to do so - like rewatching a favorite Kubrick or Lynch film, I get something new each time. Of course, he ain't for everybody. I've trusted him to make the majority of my record-buying decisions for over 15 years now and he's never disappointed me, but you might be another story. I'd recommend that if you have any curiosity about the fella you should check out his monthly Consumer Guide column in the Village Voice to see if your tastes are in the same ballpark. Or, if you're one of those truly enlightened folks who like great writing even if they don't always disagree with the opinions expressed, I'd definitely say give this book a try.

AVOID THIS BOOK.......2006-01-21
This book is a waste of money. It's full of missed items and mistakes. The walthrough provides no help at all. Find better walkthroughs on the internet and save your money!
Poor Quality.......2005-04-03
Legend of Legaia is an incredible game. But this guide is not. The only good thing about this guide is the arts list for each character. That's about the only help you'll really get from it.
Compared to other RPG guides, Prima's "Legend of Legaia" guide is shallow. Where are the maps? The comprehensive items lists? The bestiary? The secrets? They're all absent from this guide.
The walkthrough was perhaps the worst part. There's nothing but text and screenshots. Some screens are in the wrong place, and I began to wonder how exactly anyone could get anything from this guide. There were no maps, and they didn't mention the items I could obtain in an area. They mention items on the way to the target, but never anything off the beaten path.
Then there were the boss strategies. They had HP listings for some of them. Other times they either didn't have HP listed or they said something like "He has around 13,000 HP" which in turn doesn't tell me a whole lot. At least some of the strategies were good, but they didn't mention the basic tip you give anyone who goes at Legend of Legaia. You heal almost every turn (even at GameFAQs they mention that in nearly every FAQ).
The guide was also absent of basic enemy information. Where was the bestiary? What could I steal from the enemy? What did the enemy drop? Better yet, WHAT ENEMIES WILL I RUN INTO IN A CERTAIN AREA? The guide doesn't say.
Then there are the appendices in the back. They had a list of seru magic (not very handy, we know what enemies are seru just by looking for a symbol next to them in the game) and an accessories list. The accessories list and whatnot were out of order. There WAS an items list, but again: out of order. They could've at least put it in alphabetical order to make it easier. Secrets items (such as the Chicken Heart, and Chicken King) got little or no mention at all.
The entire guide read like an FAQ... only with screenshots. Seriously, if you want to MASTER Legend of Legaia, this guide isn't the way to do it. If you just want to beat the game without getting anything, the guide isn't even needed. Save your money and go to GameFAQs for help. There people will actually help you master the game and find everything. Oh, and there the people actually HAVE secrets.

I think this review is ok for getting through the game but there are so many typos and several mistakes. One mistake is on the art list in the back it screwed up one of noa's arts.

Misleading book from an "expert" who cheats people.......2007-07-29
I didn't like this book because it rehashes a lot of the same stuff in his first book, thus the materials is not very "new". "Ted Tesser's New Book" is a case of the Emperor's New Clothes. The author runs a supposedly reputable business in Florida trying to "save traders money". I followed the tax advice in the book on setting up corporate entities and ended up caught between a rock and a hard place, because the book did not include critically important details (perhaps intentionally?). When I needed more specific details, the authors' company tried to force me to pay $350/hour charged to a credit immediately over the phone for advice if my CPA was standing there to help me make sense of it all. The phone call was already costing me $100/hour. At that point I knew I was dealing with a sheister. I would not recommend this book or getting involved with the Waterside Financial to anyone. Good beginner book.......2005-08-13
The book is really good. The reason why I gave it only 3 stars is that it doesn't cover the complex stuff I am looking for. And it mostly target to small trader. This book will do you little good if you able to make over million dollars a year from the market. The book does not mention much about asset protection. As with any trader, the only asset is their cash, and I believe the author should put more work into this section if a new version is on the way.

I started this book and I wasn't sure at first what I was getting into but as I got into it I couldn't put it down! A very good book..compared to her second one that I wouldn't recommend to anyone!!
Well-written but depressing.......2007-06-19
This book is well-written and very hard to put down. However, I did not find this book humorous in the least. The awful incidents of sexual abuse the narrator faced left me feeling depressed for a week. Also, the "down home Texas" prose got pretty corny after the first few pages.
Slow start to an entertaining train wreck.......2007-06-13
The Liars Club is a childhood memoir that entertains even while making you feel like you are watching a train wreck. The book starts out a bit slow, which surprised me given its popularity. Karr begins the book in the middle of a pivotal moment of violence - yet somehow doesn't manage to convey any of the suspense of the incident which comes much later in the book when she fully illuminates the scene. If the book wasn't so critically acclaimed, and a friend hadn't recommended it to me as being "hilarious", I might very well have set it down and never picked it back up. It takes slogging through a few chapters of dull family history (or rather the author talking about what she doesn't know about her parents) to get to the meat of the story - which is the delightful child character who embodies the book. The childhood Karr is a feisty and brilliant girl navigating the working class world of Texas. With sarcasm and resilience Karr and her older sister Lecia survive the alcoholism of both parents, and her mother's downward spiral into complete madness. It is her mother's intelligence, and counter-culture creativity that makes her an interesting drunk, rather than a one dimensional monster. Karr's relationship with her Father, from which the book title comes, is less interesting. Karr is captivated as a child by her father's story telling. Her father was not an educated man, and his stories - the central unifying thread of the memoir - come off as ignorant as opposed to charming. Dysfunctional yet creative and intelligent people can be entertaining to read about. Karr's dad isn't one of them. Luckily, most of the book features Karr's story, and she is gifted with the ability to bring honesty, humor and enlightenment to a childhood scarred by neglect, sexual abuse, and a mentally ill mother.

Wow, what a life this was to read about! It held my interest throughout and didn't disappoint me at the end. Wonderful writing. Glad I got it.

Military interventions on supposedly humanitarian grounds have become an established feature of the post-Cold War global order. Since September 11, this form of militarism has taken on new and unpredictable proportions. Diana Johnstone's well-documented study demonstrates that a crucial moment in establishing in the public mind
and above all, within the political context of liberalism and the left
the legitimacy of such interventions was the "humanitarian" bombing of the former Yugoslavia in 1999.
In the course of the civil wars that led to the break-up of Yugoslavia, a complex history came to be presented as a morality play in which the parts were scripted to meet the moral needs of the capitalist West. The identification of Muslims as defenseless victims and Serbs as genocidal monsters inflamed fears and hatreds within Yugoslavia, and prepared the way for power to be shifted from the people of the region to such international agencies as NATO.
Deceptions and Self-Deceptionstests the popular myths against the reality of Yugoslav history. Johnstone identifies the common geopolitical interests running through such military interventions, and argues persuasively that they create problems rather than solving them. She shows that the "Kosovo war" was in reality the model for future destruction of countries seen as potential threats to the hegemony of an "international community" currently being redefined to exclude or marginalize all but those who conform to the interests of the United States.
A concluding chapter shows how the script prepared for Yugoslavia is being re-enacted in Afghanistan. Whether Milosevic's trial before the International Court at the Hague or the capture of bin Laden will provide an adequate conclusion to this ideological play-making, remains an open question.

Please get your heads out of sand.......2007-10-03
This book is one of the weakest attempts to justify Serb concentration camps in Bosnia. Concentration camps did exist. That much is true. There were over 1,000 of them run by Serbs, including rape camps. Tese were well documented by International War Crimes Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia. It's a sad day for humanity when authors try and defend the evil doers. History will not be kind to those who deny the tears of innocent women and children and screams who were beaten in those concetration camps.

Shame on the West in particular the US for the betrayal of the Serbs. Even now Kosovo is being laid out on a plate for the Islamist who hate the West and have declared her destruction, yet we support the spread on Islam in Europe through the propping up of new Islamic state. Seems the foreign affairs of the US are bipolar at best. We have US politicians saying we must fight the war of terror (Islamists) yet we support its spread in Europe. Is the West that stupid or duplicit ? Either way it will come back to haunt her.
Umbrage.......2007-03-18
This book confirms what I have heard from friends from Yugoslavia. The book is well researched with hundreds of footnotes from respected journals, newpapers and other sources. Although my political views are nearly opposite of the publisher's, Monthly Review Press, I find the book to be more interested in truth than politics. The author and publisher can afford to focus on truth, because truth is on their side.
My grandfather joined the army when he was 26 years old. He helped liberate the Ravensbruch concentration camp in World War II. From him I have heard first hand accounts of the horrors of genocide and war crime. "Genocide" and "war crime" have since become emotional triggers used freely by propagandists. All wars have atrocities, but beyond shrill cries and inflated statistics, there is little evidence to support claims of either genocide or war crimes in Yugoslavia. Unconvinced? Read the book. Still unconvinced? Write a refutation.
The Yugoslav civil war can be summarized by the advice Mohammed gave his disciple Nu`aym bin Ma`sud: "Go and awake distrust among the enemy to draw them off us if you can, for war is deceit." Yugoslavia: What they didn't tell you.......2007-02-07
I can't know for sure which side is right, but this book tells me an awful lot I didn't know, that I didn't get from the contemporary media coverage. At the very least, it lends a third dimension to the otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative of the "dossier" used by Blair, Clinton and the gung-ho mass media to defend their "humanitarian intervention".
In the light of subsequent events, I think this account shifts the picture in the direction of the truth, and should be read by anyone genuinely interested in and disturbed by these nasty little wars.

As an intelligence officer from a NATO country who spent three long, and two short tours in Bosnia, I must say the information provided in this book is disturbingly accurate. While the first US and NATO troops on the ground (IFOR) at least made an attempt to present a neutral front, all semblance of neutrality went out the window with SFOR. SFOR was a blatant pro-Muslim, pro-Croatian force.
Several observations for other readers who disagree--what would be the reaction in the world press if Germany re-adopted the Nazi flag? Yet the Ustasa Nazi Croation flag is completely accepted and Serbs who were living in Croatia certainly remembered that flag. How is it that the world bastion of democracy-the United States-can directly intervene in a free and open election in the Republika Serpska and remove an elected president, Dr. Poplassen, and forceably install a corrupt US puppet. (this was witnessed first hand.) Enough venting; for people interested in purchasing this book, be prepared. The story told is not what you will remember from the press and is not US State Department approved.
