Customer Reviews:
Worth its weight in gold (and then some)!.......2000-03-28
I absolutely love this book. It is an invaluable resource for the animation fan. The book takes 50 of the greatest short subject cartoons ever made and discusses why they are considered great. With each cartoon mentioned, the animation professionals responsible for the cartoon discuss the inspiration behind the cartoon's creation, how the cartoon came to be, problems the artists faced, etc.
In the margins, there are articles which tell how characters in the cartoons named developed (such as Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Droopy, Tom and Jerry, Donald Duck and many more); some of the topics discussed are the character's inspiration, how the character evolved over the years, etc.
One segment I found particularly interesting was a segment in the book dealing with controversial cartoons, such as the racially offensive "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs" and "Der Fueher's Face". The book also addresses sexual imagery in the cartoons (!) and includes some information about the content of many cartoons during World War II and why some are considered unwatchable today.
I couldn't recommend this book more highly to animation fans . .it covers every cartoon character/series imaginable, from the Looney Tunes to Disney to Woody Woodpecker, Betty Boop, and Tom and Jerry, and even includes an appendix listing some cartoons that didn't make the cut. (You will especially appreciate it if you are, like me, a Looney Tunes fan.)

Customer Reviews:
Just Perfect.......2007-09-25
I absolutely loved this book. Greg Willis, a.k.a. Gravity, is such a likeable and relatable character. The story is fun, funny, and fresh. The art is great too, it really makes the story flow nicely. Marvel fans will love the occasional cameo by a familiar hero, but new readers need not worry, this is a brand new story with no long history to get bogged down in. This really is the best mini-series I have read in a long time. If you want a fun, exciting super hero story, look no further. One side note, I don't know why Amazon has this book marketed as a Fantastic Four book. It has nothing to do with the FF, other than the Thing having a cameo early on.
Looking for a great all ages title? fun comic? easy to jump into? this is it!.......2005-12-25
This is a new hero from marvel comics, this reprints issues 1-5 of gravity, who looks to be a new up and coming star for marvel comics, the reason is he is so likable, he's a guy who started college, wants to do right in the world, meet a girl, help a few people..oh and he has super powers too, though he had no tragic event in his past, he wanted to emulate spider-man and many other heroes so he made a costume, went to new york for school and is trying to make the leap to big time hero.
This book takes place in the regular marvel universe but it won't bog you down with 40 years of history, mosly the other heroes show up in cameos as they fly by, the story of gravity so far is all new and all in this one book, so if your lookin for a fun book try this one.
It's great for kids, a great hero with good dreams who finds life is not as easy as it seems, but it has a good lesson..keep trying, but this is also a great book for adults, i'm 25 and i have read comics for years but I loved this book, it feels fresh, alive almost (thanks is major part to the art).
the story has a twists that is easy to figure out, but that's not what the book is about, it's about characters your gonna love reading, even the side characters like gravity's college roommate or the girl he meets, they are not just dressing for the hero, they make his life more full and are real people.
So get this book, you won't regret it, and with enough peopel reading it maybe we can get more books written later.

Book Description
Joey Reynolds is one of America's most beloved radio personalities. Spinning records as a teenager in Buffalo, Joey quickly became one of the trendsetters of early rock radio. From Miami to Philly to Detroit to New York, wherever Joey went his show was always at the top of the charts. After a detour to Hollywood and a long battle with the bottle, Joey's career went into a long, slow slide. Filled with humorous anecdotes and stories of the many celebrities and rock stars Joey has met, this is the story of a man whose rise, fall, and rise again was fueled by the power of laughter. After finding sobriety, Joey bounced back as always. He now has the number one rated overnight radio talk show in the country and his "stream of consciousness" style and sense of humor are winning new fans every day.
Customer Reviews:
Joey Reynolds is a comic genius!.......2001-07-21
Joey Reynolds is a comic genius! His insights into the music business and life itself are profound and yet he delivers these with the deftness and gentleness of a man who has gained wisdom from all his wild experience. This is a man who has seen it all in the broadcasting business; the ego rivalries, corporate greed, the disintegration of formats, the pettiness and shear fear driving programing today; and yet he remains true to his deepest beliefs and respects his audience like no one else.
Joey is that rare type of entertainer who has remained true to himself while others have chased after fads. I understand he pioneered the kind of "shock jock" kind of approach that is rampant now by simply telling the truth and saying what was on his mind. Those who've come after have lowered the bar by using humiliation as a substitute for real humor or, heaven forbid, actual insight. This trend toward mediocrity may be inevitable for some, but Joey continues to uphold standards that are an example to all who listen to his show. In a world where he who yells the loudest seems to get all the attention, Joey speaks softly and thoughtfully, gradually building his appreciative audience.
If you love his show, you'll love this book. If you love this book, you'll love his show. Open and honest, without being exploitative or confessional, this book is a wonderful read. I only wish there was more of it!
One of only Three DJ's in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame!.......2001-02-06
About a year ago, I had the distinct pleasure of appearing on Joey's show. What was slated to be a half-hour interview evolved into five hours-I couldn't have been more pleased. Joey is a kind and generous professional who interviews a guest unlike any I've ever encountered. When you're on his show, you feel like family, as though you were a permanent fixture on his show. When I first arrived at the station for my interview, Kenny Kramer (the real Kramer from Seinfeld) popped in without warning and chatted with us on the air. It was as though we were all neighbors sitting on Joey's front porch and telling stories. At one point I asked Joey how Les Paul, a friend of his, came to invent the electric guitar. Damned if Joey didn't call him up and tell me to ask him. Mr. Paul said that it was the first time that anyone bothered to ask him on live radio or television, and then recounted a magnificent story that will stick with me till the day I die. But this is just the way a Joey Reynolds show evolves--naturally and without contrivance. When the show ended at about five that morning, Joey asked how I had gotten to the station and I told him that I had taken the subway from my hotel. He would have nothing to do with it-he drove me to the front door of my hotel in the middle of a downpour. But hey, what do you expect, that's just the way a friendship evolves when your with Joey Reynolds--naturally and without pretense. Buy this book and see for yourself.
Good but not real good.......2001-01-07
Grew up outside Buffalo, New York. Listened to Joey every night and watched his Saturday dance show on tv. Book was easy read but a disappointment. No dates and not enough information....it seemed to jump around. (maybe like his life) I though would not have missed this book...brought back good memories.
And The Stories Just Keep On Coming.......2000-09-17
THIS IS A NOTE ON MY JACK RAYMOND REVIEW. THERE IS AN "I" missing in the last paragraph after the word "like"! Please correct it if you can.
thanks Jack Raymond
"AND THE STORIES JUST KEEP ON COMIN'".......2000-09-13
"Of all the books I've read on radio stars,this book by Joey Reynolds is certainly one of them!"
Joey not only has a great memory for radio trivia on his nationally broadcast radio show from WOR in New York, but he can also repeat those stories verbatum in his newest and only book to date. Love the book and his radio program. And when I can't pick up his show it's so miserable without it,it's almost like can hear it. In fact I listen most nights with both ears including the one that works.

Book Description
Keanu Reeves' combination of authority, forthrightness, and sexy good looks has made him one of the most popular and bankable modern stars. In this revised and updated biography, Brian J. Robb explores Reeves on- and offscreen, including his rock 'n roll career with the band Dog Star, and the twin tragedies that took the lives of his unborn daughter and his former partner Jennifer Syme. This new edition contains 130 photographs and a 48-page coverage of The Matrix and its sequel including location reports, plot previews, and a glimpse of the trilogy’s breathtaking climax.
Customer Reviews:
Comprehensive book about the enigmatic Keanu.......2005-10-06
All one ever needs or wants to know about Keanu Reeves, one of Hollywood's most intriguing actors, can be found in this book by Brian J. Robb. Originally published in 1997, it was updated two years ago and contains a section on "The Matrix" as well as entailing his (then) upcoming movies such as "Thumbsucker", a newly-released film I saw recently.
Keanu is "sui generis". There is no other actor quite like him and I mean that in a good way. Like other actors he's had his moments of triumph and suffered from films that didn't do well, but Keanu seems to emerge from all of this stronger and with a larger range of roles each time. There have always been critics who find Keanu less than convincing as an actor, but in the many films in which I've seen him, Keanu is always compelling and often displays real talent. (If I had to pick a favorite, I most liked Keanu in "Speed")
It's hard to imagine a biography about someone who is just in his early forties, but author Robb has combed his subject's life and found much to relate. Besides the complete list of Keanu's films, about which Robb goes into great detail, the actor's life apart from the screen is covered as well. It is a good thing to know that most of the actors and actresses who have worked with Keanu find him to be a very nice guy who tends to prefer a quieter life off-camera...that is, when he's not bike riding or performing with his band, Dogstar.
This book is replete with photographs which make a wonderful addition. The writing is crisp and although Robb's book is largely informational, he steers clear of a "kiss and tell" biography. For those of us who enjoy Keanu Reeves, I highly recommend this book.
Great book ~ even if Keanu hasn't contributed to it!.......2000-11-13
What can you say about a man who is so enigmatic and shuns any attempts to have his private live revealed...
Well, Mr Robb does a good job of revealing the Reevester as best he can, but asking those around him...
I like this book ~ it's accurate [yeah, what do I know about Keanu ~ A LOT!!] and shows him in a favourable light.
Us fans ain't got a lot to go on and I am pleased that someone has made an effort to get to know The One.
It is up to date as well, with revisions made to co-incide with Keanu's up and coming movies.
AND HAS LOTS AND LOTS OF DROOL WORTHY PIX OF KEANU so it's a must for the fans...
And....
If ya want to get a sense of what Keanu is all about ~ BUY THIS BOOK!!
a good bio.......2000-06-11
This book is well researched and considering the enigmatic subject, has quite a lot of information. It will take you from childhood to 1997 and "The Devil's Advocate", and it has many wonderful photos. It also has a very detailed filmography which I have found useful, and for Keanu fans, the face on the cover will be reason enough to own this book !
An Excellent Dudestud!.......1999-11-23
Brian Robb's fan-oriented book, "Keanu Reeves: An Excellent Adventure", admirably fulfills its purpose. It supplies Keanu's numerous fans with his life's story, and pics galore. There is a pic of this excellent dudestud in black leather pants and boots which will take your breath away, whether you're gay or straight!
I highly recommend this book to all fans of the Ke-Master. He rules!

Intermediate Goldmine.......2004-01-02
This book is loaded with useful information for the slightly above average player but probably has to much jargon for the beginner.
You may not care for all the mnemonics i.e the momory "keys" but quite a few are very useful. Mnemonics are not always used by the author, sometimes only a catchy phase provides the memory aid.
In structuree - the situation is introduced in the heading. Usually a very condensed "condition" is presented. Next comes a tool and/or a memory aid to handle it. Each situation is quickly dealt with. Quite a few pages present more than one idea.
Obviously the problem or tool is not always fully explained, you may have to go to other sources for that. However, the tools just keep coming and coming. It's also a nice introduction to a few advanced concepts.
The best investment in a bride book that I ever made. A geat learning tool. It even has a table of contents and an index (far above many bridge books).

Customer Reviews:
A basic manual on organizational change.......2007-02-20
Ken Matejka and Al Murphy take the principles of change that others have pioneered and present them in an exceptionally clear and applicable fashion. For a book on change, this one presents few new ideas. In fact, at times, the authors' statements come close to being hoary platitudes. Still, the book provides good advice - platitudes get that way because they express well-known truths - and its presentation is even better. Their book takes the form of a useful manual, with tips, questionnaires, checklists, definitions and diagrams. Name your favorite tool; it's here. However, don't let the book's utility deceive you into thinking that you'll be able to handle even the most revolutionary and disruptive transformations with a little reflection and a clipboard. In real life, change is more complicated than a few checklists. We recommend this book to beginners to whom the clichés will seem newly minted, and to experienced managers who can take advantage of the organizing tools while retaining their awareness that true change is always a messy business.
A CONCISE, EXCELLENT GUIDE FOR SUCCESSFUL ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE!.......2006-05-18
If you're looking for a clear, concise book on organizational change to serve as a guide, this would be an excellent choice.
The book's focus is on a six part blue print for approaching change. These six parts are:
- diagnosing the sources and reasons for change;
- developing and communicating a compelling business case for change;
- identifying the type of change and the implications for that type;
- assessing the match between the type of change and the organizational culture and realistically evaluating the time needed for change;
- identifying and prioritizing the potential roadblocks to implementation;
- determining what you can do to sponsor and facilitate change.
Includes an appendix with a concise "map" to help keep the key points of the book in mind and a "planner" to track each change initiative.The book is practical, highly applied, and very well organized and written. Highly recommended.

When World War II began, Irene Gutowna was a 17-year-old Polish nursing student. Six years later, she writes in this inspiring memoir, "I felt a million years old." In the intervening time she was separated from her family, raped by Russian soldiers, and forced to work in a hotel serving German officers. Sickened by the suffering inflicted on the local Jews, Irene began leaving food under the walls of the ghetto. Soon she was scheming to protect the Jewish workers she supervised at the hotel, and then hiding them in the lavish villa where she served as housekeeper to a German major. When he discovered them in the house, Gutowna became his mistress to protect her friends--later escaping him to join the Polish partisans during the Germans' retreat. The author presents her extraordinary heroism as the inevitable result of small steps taken over time, but her readers will not agree as they consume this thrilling adventure story, which also happens to be a drama of moral choice and courage. Although adults will find Irene's tale moving, it is appropriately published as a young adult book. Her experiences while still in her teens remind adolescents everywhere that their actions count, that the power to make a difference is in their hands. --Wendy Smith
Book Description
IRENE GUT WAS just 17 in 1939, when the Germans and Russians devoured her native Poland. Just a girl, really. But a girl who saw evil and chose to defy it.

Customer Reviews:
Interesting right through the very end........2007-08-13
Unlike most characters featured in such books, Irene Opdyke had no vested interest in helping the Jews during the Nazi occupation of Poland. She began her work in small, timid steps, gradually growing more bold and forceful as she matured. The story is told in an entirely credible and sympathetic way, without forcing young readers to wade though long narratives of graphic atrocities. I found the afterward to be the most moving and memorable part of the entire book.
A wonderfully written memoir.......2007-08-10
In my hands is a wonderfully written account of the difference "only one girl" can make. Irene Opdyke lived 7 years through the war and was subjected to many wrong doings herself, but she continued to put herself in mortal danger without thought to herself for the sake of saving the lives of a group of Jews.
A very important book in helping to teach the next generation of the horror of the second world war, but also in teaching us that one person can make a great deal of difference to the lives of others.
Amazing Polish Perspective.......2007-07-15
I've read a good number of books on World War II, but this one had tons of new information and thoughts to consider. We often look at the issues from the perspective of Germans, Jews, or Americans, but rarely do we ponder how the war must have been for the Polish. If you're interested in World War II, this is a must-read.
Extraordinary biography and memior .......2007-07-15
of what Poland went through during the occupation of the Germans and Russians. I checked this book out at the library for our WWII unit study to read to my family. It is not for the faint of heart. There are many situations in this book that I did have to leave out because Irene tells the whole truth. It is a great book and needs to be read by all. Courage always takes the hard road but thank God there are those in our midst willing to stand up for those that can't.
Irena is my hero.......2007-07-10
This is my favorite book about the Holocaust because even though it Irena is honest about the horrors of what the Nazis and the rest of the civilians did, her story ends with strong hope. The way she gambled her life over and over again and took such amazing risks is a brilliant inspiration to us all. Irena really is one of the righteous among the nations for what she did to save her Jewish friends. She stuck to her faith and her convictions in the face of death. This is greater than any work of fiction; no author could have dreamed up the adventures and horrors she endured, from her rape and incarceration to her involvement in the Polish resistance, she is a fighter and a survivor. She has led such an astounding life! If every person who saw what the Nazis were doing had stood up and made the kind of sacrifices she did, the holocaust would have been stopped. Out of all the literature I have read regarding the shoah, this is the one I hold most dear; Irena is my hero.

Product Description

Book Description
Afghanistan has a long history of power shifts and civil unrest. The Taliban, a fundamentalist Islamic group, was simply another in a series of individuals and organizations who attempted to rule this war-torn country. This anthology details the conditions that gave rise to the Taliban. It also covers the conditions of the Afghani people under Taliban rule and the U.S.-lead war meant to oust them from power following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Book Description
In this unique reader, eighteen sociologists write about their own personal experiences, and those of their families, as members of a particular racial or ethnic group in the United States. The essays are
both personal and sociological; each contributor compares the experience of his or her own family to the larger group experience. Many essays tell compelling stories of how
institutional discrimination operates, and how circumstances can persuade people to accept prejudice and discrimination. Anyone interested in reading first-hand sociological accounts of the minority experience in America.
