Book Description
Whether she's weaving hilarious, sprawling tales while babysitting the terrible tot Alvin, keeping her chubby chum Tubby and his clubhouse cronies in line, or making nice with the friendly ghost she catches reading "People Stories" in her bedroom, Little Lulu is both "Everygirl" and an undeniable one-of-a-kind! Dark Horse Books is proud to present, for the first time ever, the complete run of John Stanley and Irving Tripp's legendary run of classic Marge's Little Lulu comics in convenient, reader-friendly paperback volumes. Critically acclaimed and widely regarded as one of the most classic comics ever published, Little Lulu is an all-ages treasure, with stories funny and fresh enough to stand the test of time.

Dennis the Menace, eat your heart out..........2007-02-06
I recently finished plowing through the collected paperback editions of the classic 1950s "Little Lulu" comics, and wanted to put in my vote... yes! yes! yes! True, it's a little disappointing that the strips are reprinted in black-&-white and not in the original color versions, but the real genius of these works is in the draftsmanship of artists John Stanley and Irving Tripp, and once you get onto their wavelength, even these half-size B&W reprints are a pure delight. They can say so much with such economy -- a single panel of Lulu's unbridled mischief can have you laughing your head off, and here, in this multi-volume collection, you've got a real treasure trove of some of the best graphic-art humor produced in the 20th Century. Great stuff, highly recommended, and major kudos to Dark Horse for making this artwork both available and affordable.
Quite a Bargain!.......2006-12-03
The numbering and publishing order of Dark Horse's "Little Lulu" series is rather confusing. Although "My Dinner with Lulu" was their third release, it is labeled Volume #1 in the series. This is because it reprints the first comic "books" featuring the character; Dell Four Color #74, #97, #110, #115, #120 (published over a two year period, 1945-1946). All 52 pages of content from these five books is included, unfortunately the covers and advertisements are not. And the reprints are black and white, which makes the volumes very affordable if poor substitutes for the original four-color pages.
John Stanley did all the pencils and some of the inking for these five books, in partnership with Irving Tripp. Cartoonist Marge Buell created the characters in 1935 for the Saturday Evening Post and the early comic books had to secure her approval before publication. Judging from the obvious style differences, it is likely that several of Buell's multi-panel one-page SEP stories were included in the comic books and reprinted in this volume.
The 1945-46 drawings are more faithful to Buell's style than later Lulu issues. Note that the characters' mouths are only shown when they are speaking and they have only a single eyebrow line going across their foreheads. Despite this both Buell and Stanley are able to convey an amazing number expressions and emotions.
Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
First 5 Little Lulu Comics.......2005-05-05
While this is 'volume 3' of Dark Horse Comics' reprint series of Little Lulu, it actual reprints the first 5 of the 10 "Four Color" Little Lulu comics (#74, 97, 110, 115, 120) which were published before Little Lulu got her own title. Hopefully volume 4 of the series will reprint the last 5 of the Four Color issues.

Book Description
Loni Anderson book was written to give a first hand account at last how Loni breaks her silence on men, on life, on motherhood, and Yes Burt Reynolds.
Very true, entertaining for her fans all over the world.
Customer Reviews:
What a great book!.......2000-09-15
Ms Anderson probably wrote this book to make a buck after Burt dumped her but who cares? I really enjoyed this honest, down to earth book about her relationship with Burt, her life and loves and most of all, I LOVED the many wonderful photographs. She's quite a lady too. Not once does she cry out, "poor ol' me". The book is honest and goes straight to the point. In other words, she doesn't moan and whine throughout it. She says it as she see's it. I like that. I'd recommend this book, definitely.
One wild life.......2000-03-19
Loni Anderson proves that she is not another dumb blonde in this humorous, entertaining biography. She talks about family, friends, and her memories so fluidly you feel as if you had been there. She recounts her life from teenage beauty queen to a single mother and struggling actress and to her fame on WKRP. After all Burt has done to her she does not trash him, choosing to focus more on her feelings about the divorce and concern for her son, this definately a book to read if you are a fan of Mrs. Anderson or think she's just like her character on tv
Loni, I wish you happiness forever........1999-06-04
I started reading the book, and could not put it down. Your courage, strength, and love for your family and freinds is what I admire most about you during your time growing up and till present. At times I would cry for you for what Burt put you through, my views has changed toward him, and yes i did follow both you and Burt from the start, had no idear what hell be put you and "Q" through, you too much of a lady to put up with him on the whole and now that chapter is written and closed, you can now say at last I have peace. Loni you book was well written and yet sad, I still feel sadness but i know that you're now happy.
Good luck.
Customer Reviews:
LONI .......2007-09-04
This book was much better than Burt's I think this book was closer to the truth than Burt's.
Burt does tell us about his drug problem but does not tell us how he abused Loni but she goes into more detail about Burt and his mood swings.
Loni also tells us all about her life before Burt.
It is a really good read and very interesting.

An Excellent fingerpicking transcription of some Bach arrangements. The only problem with this book is the liminted number of songs and the number of pages (under 50)!!! Other than that, this is an excellent book. Enjoy!

Book Description
Proactive Risk Management provides product development teams and managers with a step-by-step process for managing innovation risk in an effective cross-functional manner. In addition to providing a formula, this book illuminates the rationale of managing project risks allowing project and product development managers to successfully adapt the process to their organizations and projects.
Proactive Risk Management's unique approach provides:
- A model of risk that is scalable to any size project or program and easily deployable as the risk management approach built into any product development or project management life cycle.
- Methods for identifying drivers (causes) of risks so you can manage root causes rather than the symptoms of risks.
- An appropriate quantification of the key factors of a risk that allows you to prioritize risks without introducing errors that render your numbers meaningless.
- A clear distinction between a risk and an issue and the different types of management they require.
- A vast array of supporting tools and strategies that support implementation of an effective project risk management program.
- Guidance on identifying and overcoming the organizational and cultural impediments that can block implementation of your risk management program.
Proactive Risk Management stands apart from much of the literature on project risk management in its practical, easy-to-use, fact-based approach to managing all of the risks associated with a project. The depth of actual how-to information and techniques provided here is not available anywhere else. _____________________
Advance Praise for Proactive Risk Management:
"The authors present an easy-to-understand model and an easy-to-implement set of steps to successful risk management. This book should be required reading for project and product managers. I believe you can read it one day, implement it the next, and begin seeing results immediately. The model and approach presented here navigates the knife-edge between the obvious babbling and the philosophical musing that seems to dominate the risk management literature." Patrick Neal, Ph.D. PMP, Manager, Project Management Network, Agilent Technologies
"In our fast-paced environment, there is ever-increasing pressure to bring successful new products and services to market faster than before. This means that risk management is strategically important to the success of your project or venture. Proactive Risk Management provides proven techniques for assessing and avoiding risks before they hinder the results of your project. This excellent manual will be my standard reference on the subject from now on." Dr. Peter Maddern, Product Development Manager, Kimberly-Clark Europe
"Successfully managing complex product development projects -- and keeping effected customers, stakeholders and team members connected -- requires clear communication. In my experience as a leader of projects and project managers -- in Defense, Aerospace, Commercial Consumer Electronics, and Medical Devices/Bio Pharmaceuticals -- the most effective basis for that communication is risk identification and management. Proactive Risk Management provides an extremely practical guide to the tools, techniques, and strategies that best enable that risk-based communication. It is clear that identifying and accepting the "right" risks within a project can be a powerful competitive edge. Keep a copy of this book on your desk and in the hands of your teams - I will." Mike Shires, Vice President, Global Program Management, Baxter Healthcare
"This book clearly communicates the challenges of risk management in product development and provides simple, proven methods for addressing them. The authors' experience with managing risk in product development is clearly evidenced in their practical treatment of the subject. They take a holistic view of product development and illuminate the cross-functional nature of risk in product development. They then offer a straightforward procedure for managing risk and suggestions for implementing techniques in the real world." Kent Harmon, Director, Product Development Improvement, HPA Division, Texas Instruments
"You can read Proactive Risk Management, begin implementing strategies, and start seeing immediate results. For survival in these uncertain times, Smith and Merritt offer the straightforward procedures applicable to any product development project." Ruth Carter, Director of Program Management, InFocus Corporation
"Proactive Risk Management provides the right amount of depth and breadth in its discussion of ways to model, predict, measure, and control risks that arise in projects. It is written in a style that is easy to read and understand; a style that makes you eager to apply the knowledge to your own projects. I am sure that I will go back to it repeatedly for insights and tactics." Dr. J.M. Radovich, Director, Research & Development Fenwal Division, Baxter
Customer Reviews:
Beginner's "Reader".......2006-05-11
I really tuned into the title "Proactive" Risk Management -- expecting to learn some new and valuable risk management techniques, and I relied heavily on other reviewer's comments; unfortunately, my take on this book is quite different from theirs -- and that's why I'm writing -- so that others won't be misled, as I was.
I was quite disappointed in this book; I feel like I wasted my money. Normally I read such books very carefully; highlighting interesting and/or important points, and take lots of notes; however, this book is almost un-marked, and I took no notes.
As a PMP-certified project manager, I like to see books such as this relate their material to the Project Management Institute (PMI)'s PMBOK.
The authors made passing reference to the PMBOK early in Chapter 1, but that was about it; they didn't specifically relate their content to PMI's PMBOK, and given PMI's stature as industry standard, I consider that to be a significant omission.
If you're new to the area of risk management, and want an easy-to-read "How-To," you might enjoy this book.
However, if you're an experienced project/risk manager, I'd recommend you buy something else.
As for me, I'll put it on my bookshelf, where it will probably simply gather dust. I found this book to be merely a "re-hash" of other material, with little information that that I didn't already know, i.e., "lightweight," a beginner's introductory "Reader".
Giood coverage, and practical.......2006-03-01
I liked the coverage, and felt the book was of practical value.
It wasn't just a lecture, teaching generic terms, it explained how to use the concepts and what to avoid.
Plan ahead. What can go wrong that I can do something about, and plan for that well in advance. Concentrate on 7-10 things that can be managed.
Highly practical.......2004-08-13
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time on the important topic of risk management. The treatment of the standard risk model is complete, easy to follow, and very practical. Some of the other bonuses include organization/facilitation tips for risk identification workshops, and proposals for tools and reporting formats. The material will quickly lend itself to practical applications in the work place for those who are interested in improving the risk identification and management practices in their organizations.
Possible improvements to the book could include more technical examples related to product development (the book uses the risk of `heart attack' as an example throughout the book), and a CD with electronic versions of the tools and reports that are proposed.
Clear and Informative.......2003-06-10
Over the years, I have encountered nearly every kind of risk in software projects. I found the suggestions in this book for risk analysis and risk management to be simple, clear, and actionable.
If you're a project manager or a team leader, you need to read this book or one very much like it. Otherwise, you're likely to lead a project without knowing or controlling its risks.
If you are not in a leadership position, use the concepts in this book to evaluate your leaders. That way, you can find out early how things are likely to turn out.
best book on prject management risk analysis.......2003-05-01
I found this book to be the most approachable, and day to day useful text on risk, currrently available. The authors make it easy to understand, provide a progressive example that builds on the model presented, and they provide a useful risk management toolkit.
As a trainer, I found the concepts easy to get across to students. They were also able to retain these concepts because they made so much sense.

Book Description
As seen on 60 Minutes. Until Christmas Eve 1991, Mel White was regarded by the leaders of the religious right as one of their most talented and productive supporters. He penned speeches for Ollie North, was a ghostwriter for Jerry Falwell, worked with Jim Bakker. What they didn't know is that Mel White--evangelical minister, committed Christian, family man--is gay. In this book, White details his twenty-five years of being counseled, exorcised, electric-shocked, prayed for, and nearly driven to suicide because his church said homosexuality was wrong. His salvation--to be openly gay and Christian--is much more than a unique coming-out story.
"Fascinating... harrowing... a remarkable and important story." --
Dallas Morning News
Customer Reviews:
Sad, but agenda-based, way too subjective. .......2007-08-07
I had first read about Mel White through the eyes of grace: his best friend Philip Yancey wrote a chapter about Mel in the book "What's So Amazing About Grace?" So I approached the book "Stranger" with a grace-filled attitude toward Mel. I truly felt sorrow for his terrible struggle against his homosexual urges and attractions. Eventually, I was practically convinced that Mel had tried his best to live as a straight man. However, I was troubled when I sensed that the book was more than simply a telling of his personal struggle. Rather, it became clear that Mel was driving a personal agenda against the religious right. From that point on, I thought the book lost all credibility. If he was only honestly sharing his struggles, I was all ears. But when he began to rip those who opposed him, I lost respect. Why are people of faith who hold a high view of sexual morality held in such contempt?
I was especially troubled when Mel was not particularly upset the first time he ventured out for an illicit sexual encounter with some unknown gay man. He had broken his vow of faithfulness to his wife, with hardly a passing reference in the subsequent paragraphs. While Mel may have done a thorough review of the theology of homosexuality from the Bible, I think he undervalued the importance of keeping the marriage bed undefiled and to flee from youthful lusts. And I know he read that God hates divorce.
White describes the great turmoil that gripped him as he concludes that he must be gay. However, Mel's conclusion that he must leave his wife and family and he must pursue these sexual urges is troubling to me at many levels. I am not unsympathetic to men who are already married and then find themselves to have same sex attractions. However, I believe these attractions occur on a wide spectrum of intensity. I do not accept that these longings can only be fulfilled by sexual activity with another man. Is there no ability to restrain oneself sexually? Placing homosexuals and heterosexuals in the same category, can we not behave in a manner that transcends our urges? As a healthy heterosexual male, I find it is possible to restrain myself against my urges to have sex with young attractive females. Must I accept that Mel was incapable of holding himself back from his urges? And returning to the marriage vow discussion, is "same sex attraction" an exception to "for better or for worse" and "keeping myself only unto thee, so long as we both shall live"?
I have homosexual friends who are "gay", but sexually celibate, as well as gay and married and planning on leaving their family to act-out. I am well aware of the heart-aches on both sides of the issues.
A must read.......2007-07-13
I picked this book up after reading "What's So Amazing About Grace" by Phil YancyWhat's So Amazing About Grace?in which he mentions Mel White, and I read that book after reading "god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hitchens.God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything
Kind of a surreal experience. Stranger at the Gate proves Hitchen's point that religion is child abuse but I doubt White would see it that way. None the less White tells harrowing stories about what he and others have done to themselves in the name of Christ. It's clear that Christians, most especially Evangelical (read Fundamentalist/Fantatical) can't think for themselves and don't care what damage they do to others as long as the march toward their world view continues.
Everyone should read this book, if you dislike Christians, if you are devout, if you are not heterosexual, if you are. If you can quote Leviticus YOU ABSOLUTELY need to read this book. You've got it wrong and Mel White will tell you why. If you refuse to read this book then you are just another narrow minded lemming...and that's really sad.
This book is a must read.
Well-Written Biography.......2007-04-19
The best sentence in this book is at the foot of page 193 in the paperback - "After years of trusting the people "in charge" to know what was right for me and for my life, I began to realize that I was the only one who could know for certain what was rally best for me."
Everything else in the book is an alibi and an excuse.
Mel White followed the tracks laid down by his grandparents, he looked for absolute certainties by joining in the ritualistic devotions of what Americans have made politico-religion until he found the strains too much. He was in the wrong occupation. He lived a lie because he wanted to live that lie; and to hide himself in the most orthodox part of US society until he finally flipped to the other extreme for relief from the perils of schizophrenia.
This is a biograhy not a prescriptive roadmap. The Bible is for many the essence of life, for others it is a history and a prescription. The Old Testament tells us what happened and the New Testament hopes to tell us what lies ahead. The fact is what Mel White calls homosexuality did not exist as a term until German and Hungarian psychologists coined the term to decribe activities, now it has been hardened into describing personalities.
The hedonism if Greek culture set against asceticism of Jewish culture produced the swirling influences in Christianity; but the plethora of books attempting to redefine Scripture as embracing homosexuality as mainstream are so weakly argued as to be incredible. The fact is that men have engaged in same-sex relations throughout history both within and outside the Church, and some accept the fact, some fight it, some live with a secret life, others cannot.
If Mel White is now happy, that is good for him. I simply do not believe the way ECUSA is behaving is the answer. I is becoming cultic and losing what Anglicanism was when men like Cranmer, Risdley, and Latimer died for it.
I find the extremists in the US deeply un-Christian, possibly even anti-Christian; but that is US domestic politics polarised since Roe v Wade where the Supreme Court continued a policy since the 1950s f ruling on religious matters and social mores. Accepting the Supreme Court as a Church of Absolute Right is also a failing.
Christianity is a matter of accounting for individual conscience and actions on Judgment Day. By that token Mel White, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and millions of other will be assessed and there is no court of appeal, nor an other advocate but oneself alone. That is why the sentence Mel White wrote on Page 193 is the very essence of his book.
famous evangelical embraces his gay identity.......2007-01-18
When the teenage son of one of my best friends (a pastor) announced he was gay, I knew I had to read Mel White's book. Today, White is one of the most important activists in the gay Christian community. How he came to that place is a fascinating story. Mel White hailed from two generations of stalwart Christians, and his entire life was lovingly and gladly given to their fundamentalist cause. Instead of using his scholarship to attend Stanford, he went to a Bible College, and I suspect enthusiastically so, such was his Christian ardor. As a film maker and ghost writer, he served most all the best known names of conservative Christianity--Francis Schaeffer, Billy Graham, Pat Robertson (to whom he sent money for their ministry to gays), Jerry Falwell, Jim Bakker, D. James Kennedy, and WA Criswell. His two children attended Maranatha Christian High School. "But from the beginning, I had only same-sex desires and fantasies. I didn't plan it. I didn't choose it. I didn't desire it. And no one forced it on me. I wasn't recruited, raped or abused. No one is to blame" (p. 29). That is to say, White did not have a voluntary preference to be gay. Rather, he had an entirely involuntary orientation to be gay, and he tried as vigorously as any human might struggle to sublimate and eradicate his homosexual orientation through counseling, therapy, electric shock treatments, endless prayer and exorcisms, and Valium. All of which, after about twenty five years of marriage, led to a near nervous breakdown. In a loving foreword, his wife of over two decades sets the table for her former husband's story. If you want a short, second hand account of Mel White's story, see the chapter on him in Philip Yancey's book What's So Amazing About Grace.
Tough Stuff.......2007-01-04
This is tough to read. It is tough to absorb and digest. It is tough to get inside the skin of Mel White who is both thin-skinned and tough as nails. Gut-wrenching to see what our families and society put young persons through as they are seeking to understand their sexual orientation. They don't need rejection and judgment in this very tough journey. The appalling consequences of such rejection is sobering.
This writer is honest, and is prepared to expose his life and thinking to extremely close review in order to help himself and others. He deserves to be heard and read, specially by religious leaders who already claim to have reached conclusions.

The publication of his autobiography, 'Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay and Christian in America,' made his cause public. He was attacked by Christian leaders he had once worked for. A good quick reference book.......1997-05-07
For the Battleship historian, this is a good book for quick reference to the four IOWA class Battleships.
Actually, as an engineering type that was very closely involved with the 1980's reactivations of the ships, I found the appendices of more value than the historical text.
But that is not meant to be demeaning. Mr. Muir's caption of a picture of the NEW JERSEY firing a broadside of her 16 inch guns is one of the only truthful statements ever made as to whether a full broadside would push a 57,000 ton ship sideways or not.
They do NOT. Believe me. I have been aboard them during full broadside firings and those great grey ladies don't move an inch.
Appendix B is also one of the few items published that note the fact that 18 inch guns were also considered for the class as well as a longer barreled, but heavier, version of the 16 inchers finally mounted.
Appendix C are charts, diagrams and photos taken directly out of OP 769. Where do these civilian authors get their hands on these manuals? I had a hard enough time keeping one hidden under my desk during the reactivation era of the 1980's.
I would not class this book as a "coffee table" book, but as one that meets a middle ground between a technical text and an historical log. In any case, it's a handy book for a Naval historian to have in his library.
I would like to see a later revision of this book that includes the IOWAs up to their premature (my personal opinion) inactivation. And definetly in hard cover vs. soft cover.

Book Description
Since the end of the Cold War so-called experts have been predicting the eclipse of America’s “special relationship” with Britain. But as events have shown, especially in the wake of 9/11, the political and cultural ties between America and Britain have grown stronger. Blood, Class and Empire examines the dynamics of this relationship, its many cultural manifestations—the James Bond series, PBS “brit Kitsch,” Rudyard Kipling—and explains why it still persists. Contrarian, essayist and polemicist Christopher Hitchens notes that while the relationship is usually presented as a matter of tradition, manners, and common culture, sanctified by wartime alliance, the special ingredient is empire; transmitted from an ancien regime that has tried to preserve and renew itself thereby. England has attempted to play Greece to the American Rome, but ironically having encouraged the United States to become an equal partner in the business of empire, Britain found itself supplanted.

good old uk.......2007-07-29
I must first reply to some reader who says that the Americans came and saved us from Hitler. What a load of rubbish and highy insulting. It is the UK that saved America from Hitler by our powerful British Royal Navy. This person wants to read Roosevelts speach and they will see that he needed the power of Great Britain to stop the spread of Nazism to the Americas. Where do they get the impression that the UK is practically, one would think according to this reader on our knees. We are a very powerful country helping to back up the US as no one else will. I would not get too carried away by books and thoughts that this reader has obviously not really looked into.
I add this following piece from an American - not British - survey and this is what it reads. "Great Britain possesses one of the largest and most technologically
advanced militaries in the world. In 1996, the U.S. Arms Control and
Disarmament Agency estimated that Britain allocated over
$33 billion to defense activities ....." It goes on "As a result of its long-standing commitment to national defense, Britain
has developed the capability to produce indigenously virtually any kind of
armament. This ability has made Britain
one of the world leaders....." To return to the book, it makes entertaining reading but when reading it I would not get too carried away with it, enjoy it for itself and not what one might like to believe
Apparently Greatly Misunderstood.......2004-10-06
I feel compelled to write a short review of this book in order to underscore how badly I feel that many of the leftist reviewers here have misunderstood it, probably based on no more than reading the title if history is any judge. This book IS NOT some bloated Noam Chomsky fairy tale about America and its misdeeds throughout time; it IS a very nice survey of the 'special relationship' between America and Great Britain, and its enduring components of blood, class, and nostalgia (as the original title that I own went).
So, look elsewhere for loony paranoid fantasies; here you will only find the usual intelligent Hitchens style.
The "New" Hitchens needs to re-read this and fight himself.......2004-08-17
If Chris Hitchens really believes all the pro-Bush, war on terrorism garbage he has been spewing since 9/11 he would halt the publication of this book--instead he's rushed to print it. Money is the only way a sell-out like Hitchens could rationalize re-publishing his old ideas that he now reputes. Unfortunately, the old Hitchens had it mostly right while the new one seems too inebriated to understand his new role propping up the empire.
If you want to read about the American empire don't buy this: buy Gore Vidal's latest book.
Hitchens Retails An Urban Legend.......2004-07-08
While I like this book quite a bit - vintage Hitchens -- he makes one dreadful error on page 138, when he's talking about English as the semi-official language of the US. He says that "as late as 1795, the House of Representatives narrowly defeated a motion that all its documents and proceedings be printed also in German. The tie vote was cast by the Speaker, one Friedrich Muhlenberg."
This ain't so. Muhlenberg was the Speaker, and a vote did fall one short -- but it wasn't to print in German, it was merely to table such a motion for consideration later. It failed, and thus the motion was dropped forever. It was never voted on at all.(...)
A charming and entertaining, if incomplete survey.......2004-07-08
Hitchens is both a polemicist and a comedian and this re-issue is a timely reminder of his wicked sense of fun. It probably shouldn't be taken too seriously. If read as an extension of an amusing hypothesis it's very effective, if read as a serious work of geo-political analysis it may be something of a disappointment.
I enjoyed it tremendously, but then I came to it mostly expecting to be entertained and reminded of some hazy anecdotes that might adorn the history of the 'special relationship' at a dinner-party level.
Reading the reviews that this book has garnered on amazon ironically demonstrated to me the very sizable difference in character between the two partners in this uneasy, but now very long-standing marriage.
The British Empire was an empire based on 'grace' (of necessity - that small temperate isle anchored off the coast of continental Europe could only enforce its 'imperium' by diplomacy and grace. Let's be honest: the Brits CHARMED the Indians into accepting their rule!)
In contrast the American Empire is based on 'power' and the projection overseas of American interests through financial and military 'might' based on a trans-continental nation with unparalleled economic and technological capability has been the exercise of effective, determined, aggressive self-interest.
It is therefore a not-too-surprising irony that your reaction to this work will be determined by your expectations based on whether you are looking for a Brtish-style work of charming anecdote illuminating by wit, or whether your need is really for a hard-headed geopolitcal analysis to satisfy the most self-interested Beltway policy wonk.
My advice: sit back and enjoy the charm. Thank God that we (eventually) went and saved Britain from Hitler and thus helped them secure Europe for civilisation and democracy. Life would be immeasurably less rich without these crazy Brits and their incomprehensible wit and, despite their all-too-obvious concerns of late, they have repaid that debt with interest in supporting us through thick and (recently) thin and adding their not inconsiderable weight to our strategies. You can just hear Harold Macmillan saying something like "Think nothing of it dear boy".
No 'serious' American writer would have produced this confection. That's why we serious Americans should read it.
