Teenagers won't find Zits funny because it is poking fun at their surly, self-centered and hysterically amusing selves. Parents will find themselves saying "That sounds like my kid." Teenaged angst, embarrassing parents, reluctance to engage in manual labor at home and insatiable appetites...it's all here. I used it as revenge with my son who, thankfully, graduated from high school and is out of the house.

This is a fantastic book! It has a bit more of a mature style, so I don't recommned this for children under thirteen. It would also help if you are or have been in highschool. This is one of the best Zits i have ever read!!! If you get a Zits treasury then get this one!

Not worth it.......2002-05-16

All I have to say is, this book isn't worth the time it takes to read it. I'm a huge fan of comics, especially "Foxtrot", so I thought I'd like "Zits". Don't get me wrong, there were some moderately funny parts, but overall, I wasn't too impressed. If I had to recommend a comic book for kids my age, I'd go with "Foxtrot".

I first read Zits in the paper, and then promptly went out and bought all of the books. They are witty, funny, and actually have some truth about teenagers. (I would know, I am one)
I have read this many times, and each time I read it, I still get a kick out of it. Definitely a must-have for all comics lovers.

Artist Betty Reynolds entertains us while she enlarges our understanding of what is foreign to our own culture. Some may think it is more a preparation for a trivia game but it is written/painted with great delight and should be received the same way. "STILL CLUELESS . . ." is brilliant. Be sure to add it to your book shelves; it works magic on a gloomy day.

The watercolors are as amusing as they are bright. Reynolds, an acclaimed family flag-designer, takes the reader 'every-which-way' - - what may at first seem strange is shown to make sense: foods (gingko nuts are grilled - and delicious); holidays - including religious observances; seasons; advertising & vending machines; and a double-page spread about "the talented & terrifying toilets" mentioned by others . . .

The New Year celebrations seem more interesting than ours in the U.S., or perhaps they are more age-friendly? And what country could match "Harikayo," a ceremony for retiring broken or crooked needles by burying them in tofu? I will now cultivate my "morning faces" (Morning Glories) as I say a prayer of Thanksgiving that my toilet is low-tech & doesn't require Japanese language skills to operate - or something similar to a TV control. Betty Reynold's sketchbook is about as opposite as you can get from the sumi-e of mcHAIKU's previous review (# 0806908335) but they each give delight.

Liehm's book is one of the most informative and interesting guides to post-war Italian cinema. She covers a lot of territory! --- ["Mira Liehm has known personally many of the leading figures in Italian cinema, and her work is rich in insights into their lives and working methods."---back cover] If you enjoy reading about international cinema, this is one of the most comprehensive, well illustrated, and lucid general guides to Italian cinema currently available. Don't hesitate to buy this book even if you think the material may be dated, though an updated edition including Italian films of the last 20 years would be most welcome.

For those seeking more recent Italian film criticism, Millicent Marcus' AFTER FELLINI is a must-read. Prof. Marcus (Univ. of Penn.) can be seen and/or heard on Criterion's THE LEOPARD DVD release, on the MALENA DVD, and joining director Giuseppe Tornatore for commentary on the new (2006) 2-disc edition and 3-disc "Collector's" edition of CINEMA PARADISO.

This book is out of date in terms of card counting,there are better book out there today. What htis book offers is how to avoid getting caught by not getting out of the typical sterotype of a card counter and look more like a regular gambler. Anyone that in card counting or thinking about should read this book.

The Difference that Made the Difference.......1998-07-20

The challenge of cardcounting is not learning to do it, but "conning" the pit personnel into letting you do it.

I was the stereotypical counter till I read this book (felt guilty, avoided contact with pit supervisors, neglected value of rapport with dealers). The result was very quick shuffles and even being told not to make any more blackjack bets.

Since I have adopted the mind set described in this book and the resultant behaviors, (engage pit personnel in conversations that interest them, appear to play just for fun and the money means nothing, dress like you can afford to lose) I have enjoyed deep penetration into single decks for multiple hours at a time (the difference that makes the difference).

I agree with the top authors on the game that this is the best book on casino comportment and developing your "act".

EXCELLENT - a must have at this price.......2002-12-13

I am an intellectual property attorney and law professor. I frequently have the opportunity to talk to entrepreneurs and individuals interested in start up advise. I ALWAYS recommend this book to people who are new to business plans. The book has some sample business plans in the back. Truthfully these sample plans are not all that good, but do provide some idea of the proper layout and format of a business plan. The reason I like this book so much is because of the detailed questions it forces readers to ask themselves. The majority of the book is set up like a workbook, and asks highly detailed questions that must be answered before writing can begin. These questions will also force the would be entrepreneur to think of and address a series of questions that many first timers would forget or not even know to ask or consider. This book is probably not for people who have been through the process, but for those who are doing it themselves and/or doing it for the first time buying this book is money well spent!

Not great.......2001-07-11

This book is far from complete. It has some very basic information about creating a business plan, asks you pertinent questions regarding creating your plan, and has 11 pretty poor examples.

I originally bought the book for a Business Plan Writing Class. It was a new book for the instructor and he abandon using it after the second week. It does not provide details in any area of business planning, and though it asks you questions to get you thinking in the correct way, does not provide guidance on how to answer the questions or what areas are important for different types of plans. Furthermore, the questions are not structured in a way that actually helps you formulate a useable business plan. The “101 questions” remind me to a employment application or high school written exam.

One of the reasons the instructor selected the book was for the examples. Upon closer examination however, they are really bad business plans that do not provide the depth required in the "real world." The plans are very simplistic. They might pass for someone getting an SBA loan or for internal management use, but a VC or other sophisticated financier would immediately throw any of these plans away. Even the formatting of the plans are bad; they look like they were written on a typewriter twenty years ago!

The book offers little to no advice on how to write your plan for different target audiences, what elements are important for different types of businesses, and because its examples are so incomplete, they give someone without prior exposure to business plans a false idea of what your financier is really looking for. ...

I have read dozens of books on business planning and this is by far the best. I have encouraged all of my clients to read this book and they have all benefited from the information. Hazelgren writes clearly and with great business sense. Covello's financial examples are also helpful.

I am not African American, not African, not American, and this book was such an eye opener. It is so rich in humanity, it is a pleasure to read. Each one of the 6 books is written with a distinctive voice as a person is maturing. Maya has a way of writing that is refreshing, intimate and profound.

Through her eyes we become aware of the distinctive culture and values that her characters share or challenge. We see the need that every person has to live life fully and the questions we all need to answer about who we are and what are we here for.

I particularly liked the "All God's chhildren need traveling shoes" best. this book is a must for people who seek to accept that we can be different, yet valued.

It is a distinctive book because it is written in a way that lifts the spirits and intrigues the intelect. .... "to the determination to be no victim of any kind".

I happened to hear her speak at a lecture series. She spoke for an hour and I was interested to read more about her life. I am only on page 280 but this woman is amazing and her writing style is so crisp and clear, it is as captivating as she was as a speaker. I enthusiatically recommend this book.

Other than Maya's poems, I have never read her autobiographies. WOW barely describes what I read and felt. I always thought of Maya to be just what she is....a poet, an author. To read how her early life was, I see how her life's experiences brought her to where she is today. Not only does she speak honestly, her style of writing makes one feel they are her in the books. The size of the book may seem intimidating, but I could not put it down. I had to schedule myself to study for my class and read this book!

I purchased this book after reading, "I know why the caged bird sings", I found myself captivated by the spellbounding aura of maya angelou and in a thirst for her story purchased this book. I have drank her words readily and my only regret is that like all great things, the pages shall run out and my feast shall come to an end. This is a wonderful gift for any Maya Angelou fan, it branches outside of her poetry and makes the goddess of words appear a little more human.

This book gives an excellent review of the many issues presently being debated concerning the balance between civil liberties and an effective national security. The essays that the editors have chosen are concise and cogent arguments for the different positions. It is very easy to pick up and read one essay at a time right before bed. Overall, a worthwhile purchase for anyone interested in an accessible analysis of the divergent viewpoints on this issue. While not the most in depth book available, it definitely gives a decent analysis of the key issues from racial profiling to torture to surveillance. Recommended for those with an interest in this debate.

Pulsars, generally accepted to be rotating neutron stars, are dense, neutron-packed remnants of massive stars that blew apart in supernova explosions. They are typically about 10 kilometers across and spin rapidly, often making several hundred rotations per second. Depending on star mass, gravity compresses the matter in the cores of pulsars up to more than ten times the density of ordinary atomic nuclei, thus providing a high-pressure environment in which numerous particle processes, from hyperon population to quark deconfinement to the formation of Boson condensates, may compete with each other. There are theoretical suggestions of even more "exotic" processes inside pulsars, such as the formation of absolutely stable strange quark matter, a configuration of matter even more stable than the most stable atomic nucleus, ^T56Fe. In the latter event, pulsars would be largely composed of pure quark matter, eventually enveloped in nuclear crust matter. These features combined with the tremendous recent progress in observational radio and x-ray astronomy make pulsars nearly ideal probes for a wide range of physical studies, complementing the quest of the behavior of superdense matter in terrestrial collider experiments. Written by an eminent author, Pulsars as Astrophysical Laboratories for Nuclear and Particle Physics gives a reliable account of the present status of such research, which naturally is to be performed at the interface between nuclear physics, particle physics, and Einstein's theory of relativity.

The discovery 25 years ago of the remarkable objects which came to be known as pulsars, and their identification as neutron stars, fulfilled a prediction made more than 30 years earlier. Over 550 pulsars are now known, almost all detected at radio frequencies. Their pulse periods range from 1.5 ms to several seconds. Most pulsars are single neutron stars but, in an important subset, the pulsar is in a binary orbit with a companion star. Observations have revealed a wealth of detail about the structure and evolution of pulsars and the pulse-emission process, giving new insight into the behaviour of matter in the presence of extreme gravitational and electromagnetic fields. Pulsars have unique physical properties which make them nearly ideal as probes for a wide range of physical studies.
