Rob Linrothe's book is a must-have for any interested student of Esoteric Buddhism. It combines the author's knowledge of the religious texts with art historical analysis and provides a wonderful survey on the development of wrathful Buddhist deities from secondary attendant figures to objects of worship in their own right.

Rob Linrothe has written a superb book on the evolution of Wrathful Deities in India and Tibet. Photos taken by the author and excellent explanations show us in exquisite detail how this form of art developed over the centuries. A wonderful book for those looking to understand Esoteric Buddhism!

I was truly amazed at the vast amount of ideas in this book and its predicessor. It has truly spiced up my love life and caused me to become very creative. A must have for any couple.......1997-01-22

This book can be read cover to cover or when you need a little pick up in your relationship, you can just open it up and anywhere and grab a quick idea or two.
Some Ideas are just so simple and they can say alot. Others are the "Spare No Expence" type and great to fantisize about.
I recomend this one to any couple who want to stay in love and keep a lot of romance alive. Buy it as a gift to your mate or as a gift for yourself, either way it's a gift for the couple
My own copy is so tattered I think it's about time to buy a second copy.

This beautifully produced volume is a MUST HAVE for any fan of the film BARAKA, serious photography monograph collector or travel buff. The imagery is as varied as life itself. From the unspeakable horror of raging oil fires in Kuwait during the final days of the Gulf War to the contemplative beauty of a lone Tibetan Monk deep in meditative prayer. We see the inquisitive gaze of a group of Kayapo children in the Amazon jungle and the cold stares of armed Cambodian soldiers guarding a munitions storage area.

Mark Magidson, the film's Producer, has done a masterful job at capturing the beauty, power and mysteries of life, just as he and Director Ron Fricke did with the motion picture. Fricke firmly believes that nonverbal films like BARAKA must live up to the standard of great still photography which reveals the essence of a subject - not just the physical presence, but the inner workings as well. This volume is a great example of just that. The images in this book stand alone as a testament to the power of the still image and its ability to connect directly with the viewer.

Updated, but still so far out of date.......2004-10-03

I bought the First Edition of this book not too long after I started playing Shadowbane, and back then it was a handy reference, even thought it had a lot of mistakes and omissions. I was pleased to see that they'd finally released an updated edition, but it is not even close to current. It doesn't have any mention of the Rise of Chaos expansion pack that has been out for quite some time, and is about to go even further out of date with the upcoming release of the "Throne of Oblivion" expansion pack.

To be honest, you'll find just as much information with at least the same level of timeliness and accuracy for free online. And if you are playing the game, and not sure how to develop a good character, don't be afraid to ask for advice from higher level players in your race/class/discipline.

Value sink........2004-03-03

When I first got ahold of this book it was an incredible resource for the Shadowbane game. The more I played, the more began to notice small errors in the book. These happen, and I was still satisfied.

As time went on, the errors were getting numerous and confusing - I began to highlight each error so I would remember what info is wrong.

It's been almost a year since I've had the book now, and every single page has at least one highlighter mark. A few pages are completely highlighted out as they are completely erroneous. The errors include:

-Blatant typos
-Copy/Paste errors (The book has a section that discribes spell attributes. You can tell that the writer used one spell as a template, as it appears almost six times in the list with different names.
-Statistical errors
-Credit errors (A portion of the book is a part where people submitted their character's template. One of them was wrongly credited [wrong name given] even though the accompanying picture has his name right on it!)

The worst part about the book is that in the past few months Shadowbane has gone through such a tremendous change that 90% of the book's correct information (Which applies to just over half of it's total information) is now unaplicable because it's been changed by the game developers.

The book was good, but the more I got used to the game the more I noticed the book was wrong. Now that the game has matured so much, the book is essentially useless.

Went to Best Buy, decided to look around, saw shadowbane strategy guide, thought it might be nicely done, flipped to a random page, shut it, walked away. End of story

Helpful for beginners, much less so beyond........2003-10-01

Shadowbane has a rather steep learning curve, and pitifully few in game guides to push you in the right direction. I gave the game a shot at first for a week or so without the book and had rather a rough time of it.

Once I picked up the book though, it became kind of a guide to learning Shadowbane. Despite the heavy amount of typo's and out and out mistakes, it does make a good teaching tool if you're considering dumping your time and cash into the game. I found myself referencing it continually, even after I'd been playing 5 months for certain statistics. Once you learn how to spot the mistakes, it's not really bad.

I think some one else's review said it best in that this book should have been included with the game as the manual because life without it would have been very difficult.

I don't reccomend buying Shadowbane at all, but if you're going to, I reccomend picking this book up. As a little bonus, beyond listing the statistics, they continue the short story of Gareth for several more chapters, which actually made a good read. Not worth the 20 by itself, but still a nice bonus.

I gave this book 2 stars because the game itself isn't that good, the book has a way-beyond-acceptable amount of problems with it, and the writer/editor should have been fired. But having seen how the actual game is run, the book stands at about par with it for errors and problems.

Less than useless.......2003-07-29

It's been said that the worst kind of ignorance isn't not knowing things, it's knowing things that aren't so. In that context, the Shadowbane strat guide spreads ignorance. It is riddled with errors. Some are cut-and-paste errors, like spells with the wrong description or the trainers' spell lists that duplicate the Bard spells for the Channeler trainer. Others are factual errors, like the discipline runes, levels for spells, etc. While the numerous typos and editing errors (didn't these people have a proofreader?) are fairly obvious, the factual errors are stealthy but dangerous. You think you know something, but what you "know", what the official strategy guide told you, turns out to be dead wrong. Most of the useful material should have been in the manual. Nearly all of it is available on the Web. I bought it for the maps, but they turned out to be nearly worthless; there are player-made maps online that are enormously better.

The strategy guide is a case of the publisher trying to sell you the manual that should have come with the game for an additional twenty bucks. If it was accurate that might even be worth it, but as the mess it is, you'll find one of its flaws when you least expect it and the resulting "gotcha" can put a major damper on any fun you manage to wrest out of Shadowbane. Don't waste your money on this book.

This is one of the volumes which comprise the University of Michigan Business School Management Series. According to Paul H. O'Neill in the Foreword, this book "captures the leading-edge theory and practice on how to leverage diversity for the benefit of individuals and the organizations in which they work." It does indeed. Cox organizes his excellent material within seven chapters:

1. The Challenge of Managing Diversity

2. for Meeting the Challenge

3. leadership: The First Requirement of Change

4. Leverage Research, Develop Measurement Plans

5. Create Effective Education

6. Align Organizational Systems and Practices

7. Follow Up for Sustainable Results A Strategy

As you can see, Cox presents the material within a logical sequence inorder to achieve several specific objectives: to offer a systematic, comprehensive model for change as well as to provide data on the results of using that method; to include detailed examples to illustrate all of his main ideas; to include, also, an integrated case study on managing diversity efforts in one of the world's largest companies Alcoa, Inc.); meanwhile, to integrate relevant research with chapter endnotes; and finally, to raise questions in each chapter for discussion and further learning. He fully achieves all of these objectives.

Cox defines diversity as "the variation of social and cultural identities among people existing together in a defined employment or market setting." Many of the largest organizations have operations located throughout the world. They are by nature "multicultural." Other, probably smaller organizations are now involved in globalization initiatives and have become (or will soon become) "multicultural." Still other organizations, perhaps even smaller, may not be (according to Cox's definition) "multicultural" but they do business with organizations which are; it is in their best interests to have a strategy (or combination of strategies) to capture, manage, and then sustain what Cox calls "the power of diversity." I strongly urge decision-makers in all of these organizations to read Cox's book because all of the subjects, covered so well in logical sequence, can also serve as agenda items during the strategic planning process.

One of the book's greatest value-added benefits consists of various "Tables" and clusters of bullet points which Cox includes within a fast-paced but comprehensive narrative. For example, Table 3.1 (in Chapter 1) which provides seven examples of strong leadership behavior or Table 6.1 (in Chapter 6) which lists "primary climate factors" to be aligned with diversity. Those who share my high regard for this book are urged to check out the other volumes in the series. Before I read this book, I came and read these reviews, and I wondered why are people talkin about monster's book, when this is about Colton's book. Now after I have read this book I see why, this book is very similar, just replace killing crips with killing bloods, I could have even sworn I remeber some passages that are the same,(EX. How the prisoners treated the busters in jail), and there are some people mentioned in both books, besides that, I thought it was an intresting book, it gives very detalied descripsions about what goes on in the life of a crip. A lot of people don't realize that growing up in gang neiborhoods, being in a gang isn't so much by choice, my father grew up in San deigo, he had been around some of the gang members, lil brothers and cousins. When he was old enough, he was asked to join the bloods, when he said he'd think about it, they chased him home, everyday until he decided that he would join. These books give a lil insite to their world and lets people see what's it really like, in these streets, and gives knowledge to the young ones hoping they would choose a different path. Although I thinks Mosters book is a better read, this book is also very good, if intresed, you should definetly read one of these books.

The book was ok, I was not impressed. The reviews I read prior to reading the book was mostly positive. IMO the book did not live up to the reviews.

I guess its good that Colton finally found his way, but it took him fifteen years (and many broken lives) to figure out what his grandmother was telling him all along.

This book does nothing to distinguish itself from others in the genre, such as Monster, or Home of the Body Bags or Makes me Want to Holla. These other books were better.

Another winner from Food First Books.......2004-05-13

"Shafted" is an easy-to-read and powerful window into the human side of the effects of free trade. It's one thing to read statistics and another to hear stories directly from those affected. The book is based on a congressional briefing in Washington D.C. where a delegation of America's working poor was able to tell members of Congress and the American public how free trade has impacted their lives. "Shafted" is separated into four parts: Farmers, Workers, Farmworkers, and Analysts. What is great about the book is that it includes stories and analyses from people of different backgrounds, including racial, ethnic, and work backgrounds. I especially liked the contributions in the Analysts section (the analysts coming from the Public Citizen organization, Cornell University, American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, and California Senate Select Committee on International Trade). I found them accessible and to the point, lacking loads of economic and political jargon. Throughout the book you'll also find short excerpts from important historic documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenant on Civil Political Rights, American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man.

This is an important book that addresses a growing menace in our society and in the international arena. It does not provide a suggested plan of action, however it does include resources to further educate yourself and to get involved.

"Shafted" is a quick and powerful read that'll open your eyes to another side of America that we hardly get the chance to hear from. And it shows how people are bravely standing up for what they believe it. An invaluable book!

Shafted is a powerful and punchy read! I recommend this book to all those concerned about the future of our economy and the effects of free trade on working people in America. The testimonies reveal the devastating effects of free trade on workers, family farmers and farmworkers. These testimonies also reveal, however, that people refuse to sit back and allow biased economic policies to destroy their livelihoods and their families. By fighting to expose the myth of "free trade," the working people in Shafted are demanding a shift in the values of America - from the unjust and exploitative values of corporate America to fundamental values of the global community - human rights, justice and dignity of people everywhere.

Required reading for the rich who run the USA.......2003-11-04

I've always been a domestic policy wonk, and for a long time kept my head buried in the international sand. This book made me wake up and realize that the line between domestic and international is no more, and that it's time to get serious about a cohesive, solid global movement to protect the environment, workers, and basic human dignity. Not a movement based on ignorance, slogans, and bandanaded rebels, but one based on solid information and real-world relevance. Shafted could prove to be a huge step in that kind of a movement. I hope so.
