Colourful ode to Warner Brothers animation.......2002-09-18
This is an excellent and richly illustrated book on animation at Warner Brothers. It contains a lot of background information on e.g. Carl Stalling's music, the styles of the different directors, inside jokes, war cartoons, forgotten cartoon characters and so on. The joy of reading this book is only surpassed by watching the Warner Brothers cartoons themselves.
Very good survey historical and technical survey.......1998-05-15
While writing an article for the Talaria Enterprises Museum Store's new release of Looney Tunes sculptures, I turned to this very informative book. It discusses the history and impact of the Looney Tunes characters from historical, technical, and theoretical perspectives. Very Good Sourcebook!
A great resource for WB cartoon buffs........1996-10-01
First, I have to confess that I am a card-carrying adult who
still watches cartoons every Saturday morning. As an adult,
however, I'm now interested it the history of the cartoons
I watch. (It makes me feel more...sophisticated about my
cartoon viewing.)
"That's All Folks" has incredible full-color pictures,
chronicals the history of WB cartoons, provides specific
information about the most popular characters and cartoons,
AND includes a filmography of WB cartoon releases. If you
like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the rest of the gang,
you should have this book.

Uneven.......2005-12-17
This is a very uneven work, attempting to blend the story of a disillusioned American teenager who falls under the sway of an Islamic terrorist cell, with the larger story of the rise of al-Qaeda. A large part of the problem is that New Jersey teenager Johnny (perhaps an allusion to Dalton Trumbo's anti-war classic Johnny Got His Gun?) is not a particularly convincing character, he's just a cliche "outsider". Raised by an angry abusive Vietnam Vet father (who in one really lame hunting scene screams at him to shoot a deer), beat up by everyone at school, Johnny finds solace in a group of fellow misfits who sniff glue and read the Anarchist's Cookbook for fun.
A fellow grocery worker invites him to learn about Islam, and soon Johnny has moved to a terrorist training compound in upstate New York. It makes a certain amount of sense that a teenage "lost boy" could find purpose and strength from such a dedicated group, but it also strain credulity. It doesn't help that Inzana doesn't have the tightest grip on his character-after establishing Johnny as a pretty extreme outsider, he later has him saying stuff no outsider would, "I no longer cared about the brand name that was emblazoned on my shoes, or where I got my hair cut." And while some of the details of the training camp are well done (the use of videos and qat), it's laughable that after only a few months of instruction in Arabic, Johnny would be able to watch and understand bin Laden's videos.
From here, the story degenerates quite a bit. First, Johnny is sent to kill an imam in Colorado who is going to testify in front of a federal jury about a local terrorist cell. First, it's silly to think that (even pre 9-11) the feds are going to let a key witness in a terrorism case walk around without any protection. Secondly, when Johnny is faced with the deed, he only realizes he wants "out" after the fact, which feels totally improbable. Far more realistic would be this realization occurring beforehand, but then the CIA wouldn't be able to blackmail into becoming a mole for them...
Huh? In a rather confusing sequence, Johnny is forced to travel to Afghanistan to infiltrate al-Qaeda (using the Pashto and Farsi he apparently learned in a few months along with Arabic!) or else face up to a murder rap. Meanwhile, his old camp in upstate New York has been raided and his mentors killed or rounded up. You might think that the folks in Afghanistan might be a little suspicious of some American kid showing up on their turf right after the cell he belonged to got rounded up...but no, they welcome him... This all provides the author with a chance to point out past CIA horrors of the past fifty years (Iran, Central America, etc.-but for some reason he forgot to mention the Phoenix Program), but so what? Johnny is bored, alone, and has nothing to do. Eventually 9-11 rolls around and then he waits for the U.S. planes to come.
Clearly Inzana was intrigued with the case of John Walker Lindh, but his story is such an anomaly, that it's not well-suited to taking one into the minds of al-Qaeda and can only result in a superficial portrait. And when the tale is riddled with mistakes (in addition to the above, Inanza refers to the Middle East having an "untouchable" caste, which is simply wrong. That's India dude.), and implausibilities, it doesn't serve the reader very well. Anyway... lots of deficiencies here, but the art isn't one. The choppy black and white inking have a distinctive woodcut style, and serve the dark material very well. The paneling is pretty straightforward and traditional for the most part.
One area Inanza does highlight to good effect is the heavy role Pakistani intelligence takes in much of this (although even here, he has a Pakistani calling the the kid Abu Amriki-"Father of America"-in Arabic, which makes no sense, maybe he meant Ibn Amriki-"Son of America", although why the Pakistani guy would be speaking Arabic is another question). Just as the U.S. armed Saddam Hussein's thugocracy to fight against Iran 25 years ago, we are now arming Pervez Musharraf's thugocracy (remember, he suspended Pakistan's constitution and seized power, kicking out a democratically elected Prime Minster in 1999) to help us against the Taliban, and al-Queda, the very groups they helped us create. Go democracy!
A great "what if?" graphic novel with elements of realism.......2005-12-02
I found this book to be quite engrossing. Having read several graphic novels that have dealt with the events following 9/11, I found this to be an interesting look at what someone such as John Walker Lindh might have gone through. At the same time, the book pulls no punches at how American culture can easily lure youth into a state in which a solid alternative may look better at first, but can turn bad later on. Combining this book with Matrjane Sarapti's Persepolis or Joe Sacco's work Palestine would be an excellent place to delve into the concept of learning current events with semi-fictional (or "children's") media, such as comics.
Book Description
The most lavish P. G. Wodehouse collection ever published. In addition to Wodehouse's best known and beloved Jeeves and Bertie stories, The Most of P. G. Wodehouse features delightful stories about The Drones Club and its affable, vacuous members: Mr. Mulliner, whose considered judgment on any and all topics is drawn from the experiences of his innumerable relatives; Stanley Featherstonehaugh Ukridge, the man of gilt-edged schemes; and Lord Emsworth, ruler of all he surveys at Blanding's Castle. Rounding out the collection are Wodehouses's witty golf stories and a complete and completely hilarious novel, Quick Service. As Jeeves would say, "The mind boggles, sir."
Customer Reviews:
Great Introduction to Wodehouse.......2007-08-10
This collection is a fantastic introduction to Wodehouse, who is known as a master of the English Language and a brilliant plotter. Includes the hilarious "Uncle Fred Flits By," a short story that fires on all cylinders, and the complete text of "Quick Service," one of my favorite Wodehouse novels. Other well-known stories like "The Great Hat Mystery" and "The Great Sermon Handicap" are here as well. You'll get a good sense of what Wodehouse was all about and have fun while you do it. Pick it up today!
P.G. Wodehouse is super funny.......2007-02-25
The nice thing about this book is that it has a little bit of everything. Say you don't like the Mr. Mulliner stories very much; well, then you can skip those stories and just read about Jeeves. Also, if you haven't read much Wodehouse, this book will help you decide what characters and storylines you like best, so you that you can purchase later novels with discrimination. The one thing I don't like is that it only has one Blandings story (although it is a good one); I'd rather they switched out some of those silly Ukridge stories for more Blandings ones.
More of the Most of Mr. Wodehouse..........2006-01-19
This delightfully daffy book was my introduction to the humor of the great Wodehouse, whom has often since saved me from sorrow and despair. A nice collection of stories about dotty Earls and demonic aunts, The Most of Wodehouse she be read and enjoyed by anyone who has a drop of anglo-philia and a sense of humor. Long live Plum!
6 stars at least!!.......2005-12-29
I'm left alone on a small island and offered just the bible and one author's works: P.G.W. is my choice.
Great Sense of Life.......2005-02-20
Wodehouse is famous for gently poking fun at British aristocracy and the not so aristocratic as well. His Jeeves and Bertie Wooster characters have become classics. The stories project such a good sense of life that reading them is therapeutic.

It is obvious that having definite objective aiming points will do wonders for a player's game, which is the basis of these books...the word "systems" does not exactly define this collection...a more appropriate description would be "planning cue ball paths."

A True Revelation.......2005-06-15
This is an ultimate and indispensable guide to 3-cushion players. All four books of this series are full of precious formulas and tips many of which were secret to amateurs. Systematic and pin-pointed explanations and diagrams are incredible. This series should not stop here.
Developes a higher level of play.......2003-11-29
Thank you very much for putting them (books) together. There just doesn't seems to be a lot available in English to help the aspiring 3 cushion player to develop to a higher level of play. Through your efforts, the game is considerably strengthened.
Embraces the magnitude of billiard system knowledge.......1997-12-07
Each of these books are a work of art....they could not be more easy to understand....one of the best theory teachers who has ever passed through the billiard world.
Book Description
The New Reverse Mortgage Formula explains reverse mortgages in easy language so seniors and their family members can fully understand and benefit from these useful loan products. Reverse loans allow seniors to convert part of their home equity into tax-free income, letting seniors easily borrow against the value of their home without selling it. Safer than ever, today’s reverse mortgages are non-recourse loans and lenders do not share in any appreciation or accrued equity. Safe and simple, reverse mortgages are a valuable option for senior homeowners having trouble living on a fixed income or in need of extra cash for any unforeseen expense.
Customer Reviews:
Be in the know with this book.......2007-05-17
This is a very comprehensive book about reverse mortgages. Important reading for senior looking to use the equity in their home with a reverse mortgage and for the individuals advising seniors on these loans. I highly recommend Tom Kelly's book.
not a quality reference on the topic.......2006-12-04
The only thing good about this book is that at one time it was the only book available on reverse mortgages. That is no longer the case. While I haven't sampled the other titles to say how they compare, I can say that you'll find better quality information freely available on the net.
Among the flaws of this book:
It dedicates about 3 chapters (see the table of contents) to discussing what you can do with your money after you've obtained a reverse mortgage. As there are no real restrictions on how that money can be spent, these are useless, arbitrary chapters that would be far better covered in a book on how to spend your retirement.
The few interesting facts the book does introduce (such as the possibility of reducing fees if the mortgage proceeds are applied to long-term care insurance) are not backed up with references, or - as it turns out - explained as being proposed legislation that may never become reality.
A must read for any family member considering a Reverse Mortgage.......2006-06-10
The book is well reseached and written. It answered many questions I had. I was doing the research for my mother because I did not want her to be taken advantage of.
I would highly recomend this book. It gives a good explanation of the features and benefits and if a reverse mortgage is right for you in your particular situation. We hardly had any questions when the reverse mortgage expert came out.
If you're a senior or know a senior you should read this book!.......2006-06-06
Putting the emphasis on "THE NEW" REVERSE MORTGAGE Mr. Kelly provides a comprehensive review of this valuable financial tool available to seniors. He lays out the cost and compares the options, dispelling the fears and myths that it is "too expensive". While pointing out that it may not be the best option for some, there are many seniors and mortgage professionals who can benefit from this information. There is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding in the press and in the marketplace about this program. This book will help to set the record straight. With this good information seniors and their adult children can discover that they have more options and can make better choices. The New Reverse Mortgage programs now make it possible for seniors to stay in their homes long term while enjoying tax free income with no fear of foreclosure. If you are a senior or have parents who are seniors you should get this book and read it carefully to explore your options.
** A Must Have Book ** for any mortgage professional.......2006-06-06
You can't find many books on Reverse Mortgage's, let alone that are recent enough to talk about the changes that have gone on with the product. Tom Kelly does an excellent job explaining how they work, pro's and con's, customer stories and interviews with people in the industry. I recommend his book to everyone that is looking to get a Reverse Mortgage or prospecting entering the Reverse Mortgage field.
Book Description
Jack Massey is one of the unsung heroes of American business. To this day he is the only person ever to take three companies to the New York Stock ExchangeKentucky Fried Chicken, Hospital Corporation of America, and Winner's Corporation. According to Forbes, he "deserves credit for creating the modern fast-food industry." He should get credit for for-profit hospitals as well. The list of people who claim Massey as a mentor includes one U.S. senator, two former Tennessee governors, and the Wendy's founder Dave Thomas.
Incredibly, Massey did all of this after he tried to retire.
Massey spent his childhood working in his uncle's drugstore in small-town Georgia. Passing the pharmacy exam and receiving his license at age 19 (two years below the minimum legal age), Massey built up a chain of drugstores in Nashville, which he expanded into a surgical supply business in 1937, and became a bank director and head of Nashville's Baptist Hospital. In 1961 he sold his surgical supply company and retired.
After a few months of golf and gin rummy in Florida, he was ready for a new challenge, which he found in an eccentric old Kentuckian with a fried chicken recipe. Massey bought Harland Sanders's recipe, and under his leadership Kentucky Fried Chicken grew into a nationwide chain of restaurants. By the time he sold KFC, Massey had also started a chain of for-profit hospitals with three other Nashvillians: Hospital Corporation of America.
By the late 1970s and past retirement age, he was instrumental in the rise of Wendy's, had helped a Nashville entrepreneur buy Thomas Nelson, Inc., and transformed a small Nashville college now known as Belmont University. In the 1980s he started the highly successful Massey-Burch investment capital company, took a leading role in local real estate development, and started a fried chicken chain called Mrs. Winners, which he took to the NYSE in 1984.
Master of the Big Board is the story of an incredible American life. Dozens of lessons about life and business can be realized from this detailed, accurate, and thoughtful business biography.

Examines key protagonists, critical turning points, society, economy, slavery, civil liberties and nationalism. Those interested in the Civil War. Also available in Hardcover 0-582-31838-6.
Book Description
This text gives students the skills necessary for analyzing important political issues logically and systematically. Louise White guides students through the entire research design process step-by-step, from formulating sound questions and devising strategies for answering them to analyzing and presenting the results. Exercises throughout let students apply and practice these skills using examples based on real world data and current political events.
Customer Reviews:
Hard to Follow, Difficult to Understand, Terminology Warped.......2007-03-08
Out of all the books I have been required to read in pursuit of my PhD, this by far is the worst book I owned. Its very difficult to follow at times, and the author places these "exercises" within each chapter in attempt to enhance the understanding of the material. In actuality, its cumbersome and often times not relevant to the material previously presented. I could write a full review of how bad this text is, but as with the other recommendations, I would stay away from this text.
Look elsewhere for information.......2006-06-05
The one thing the book does well... It starts at the most basic level of introduction to research and goes up through statistical forumlas.
The problem is the information is sloppily put together. The author knows little or nothing about logic, and this, misuses it in ways that will damage the students ability to function in reasearch if they have no previous experience. There are also lots of nice charts, that you have to fill in yourself, making this feel like a paint-by-numbers rather than a textbook.
The author also lumps interval and ration data sets together. While when using formulas they are interchangable the one sentence inclusion of the two together does not give justice to the very different applications of interval and ratio data. Once again, if you take a stats class after this, you will suffer from the learning.
Highly NOT Recommended.
Horribly edited.......2006-01-14
This is NOT a very good book. It is very basic, and at that, it can't get it right. The book is very poorly edited, which causes a lot of confusion.

Book Description
Joint fact-finding is a cooperative venture and communication among the participants is critical to success. Analysts have begun to recognize this and have started to adjust their craft to reflect the communicative character of their work. Non-analysts usually judge experts' opinions by their value, effectiveness, and legitimacy rather than soundness of the conclusions. Accordingly, experts must recognize the importance of these non-scientific criteria, and learn to communicate better with their non-expert colleagues. Practically, this means explaining the rationale and implications behind their findings in an easily digestible way. Andrews uses real cases to illustrate his argument that analysts should marry process to analysis, spread information, reason inductively, broaden their analytic scope, put analytic results into lay terms, and constantly seek out feedback on their work. Technical specialists who perform analysis in public settings can turn to Andrews's book for ideas about how to do their jobs more effectively. Scholars interested in the connection between expertise and the process of social learning will find his case study approach useful. Beginning with an analysis of the motivations and concepts at work in the process of joint fact finding, Andrews assesses the challenges analysts face from those who hire them and from their non-expert colleagues. He then illustrates his remarks with case studies of projects that have failed and succeeded. The book concludes by summing up the mistakes learned and elements that make for successful joint fact finding.

Book Description
The many billions of dollars invested in canal irrigation in recent decades have had disappointing results. Rarely have projected benefits in well-being or production been achieved. In consequence, in the mid-1980s, further vast sums are being spent throughout the Third World on programmes for rehabilitation, canal lining, on farm development, and farmers' organisation.
In this book, Robert Chambers shows that much of this policy and practice is based on misleading research and misdiagnosis. When applied to the complexity and uniqueness of canal irrigation systems, the normal professionalism of civil and agricultural engineers, agronomists, economists, and sociologists, leaves gaps which are keys to better performance. In successive chapters, five such gaps are analysed and presented: main system management, including the scheduling and delivery of water, and communications; canal irrigation at night; management of canal systems jointly by farmers and officials; professional conditions and incentives for irrigation managers; and methods for diagnostic analysis to identify cost-effective actions for improvement.
Managing Canal Irrigation has been written for policy-makers, irrigation managers, consultants, researchers, trainers and teachers. It challenges all concerned with improving the performance and anti-poverty impact of canal irrigation, whether in government departments, aid agencies, consultancy firms, training and research institutes or universities, to re-examine their beliefs, biases and actions. By going beyond the limits of normal professionalism, the book presents a new syllabus for training, a new agenda for research and development, and points to new policies and topractical action to be taken in the field.
Customer Reviews:
The authoritive text on canal irrigation in Asian Countries.......2000-04-24
A comprehensive review of political managerial and economic issues of canal irrigation including; impact, managing proffessionals, operational management of schemes. An excellent text, should be read by any proffessionals related to irrigation, however neglects to cover comprehensively life cycle costing, agronomic or drainage management. Although the analysis is in Asia, the text and ideas are transferable globally. Well written, clear text from this excellent author.
