Nice book!.......2007-06-19
I learned alot more of my 7D after using it almost two years! Good quality!
More Excellence!.......2006-06-27
This volume, from Photograghers Institute Press (PIP) is a tremendous resource. It gets you right into the workings and magic of the legendary Konica-Minolta Maxxum 7D...known oversea's as the Dynax 7D.
Very well illustrated and a lively, fun read. Keep your camera with you and follow along and things will make perfect sense.
Chris Weston deserves praise and does justice to this superb camera...as mentioned now something of a legend.
Also mentioned is my thought of combining this book with Magic Lanterns equally fine volume on the Maxxum / Dynax 7D. They are similar in facts yet differ in delivery and presentation and (I feel) compliment each other wonderfully.
Sony has now picked up the Konica-Minolta line, as of 1-April -2006. Their new design, based on the Maxxum / Dynax 9D is now on the market. Yet Tens of thousands of loyal Konica- Minolta followers will be happy to know Sony has not foresaken the K-M Divison...they have, in fact, incorperated them into Sony and the partnership can only be fruitful.
Long live the Maxxum / Dynax 7D!

An Inspiration.......2007-03-30
Amelia Louise McBride, a 9 year old facing divorce, moving, and the weirdest school of all time. With Wicked Witch Bloom, Mad Dog Barkley, No Neck Norris, and Old Man Biggers as teachers, "So then Noah says, "Sorry Zeke you gotta dog paddle." :-) Owen, fan of the Feds, Mary Violet, with the Mall God and Searing Hand of the Devil, Earth Dog the poet, as well as the "nerds," Reggie Grabinsky, holder of best sneeze-barfer and best superhero wanna be, Rhonda Bleenie, annoyed by sister goodie Reenie, and silent Pajamaman, who attracts s with softee chicken backpacks and being a Latchky kid. Living with her mom and Aunt Tanner, the with the straight A student motto. Facing ups like Santa, and downs like Softee Dad, this is a six star book!
Perfect 10 on the Can't-Put-It-Down Scale!.......2007-02-28
When my 7-year old son is fighting with my 9-year old daughter for his turn to read AMELIA RULES!, you know these books are going to be a hit. The artwork is beautiful, the dialogue full of great humor and pathos, the stories engaging. But what appeals most to the kids, I think, is the characters themselves. Amelia is out-and-out fascinating--a perfect combination of pre-teen girl and tomboy--and her friends are as lively and entertaining as any you'll find in American literature.
In fact, this IS literature, and if you're the kind of parent who thinks comics are no better for kids than TV, AMELIA RULES! will prove you completely and utterly wrong. Get these books. Your kids won't be able to put them down--and neither will you.
Hilarious for grownups.......2006-05-18
I was reading this last night and was laughing my head off. It's brilliant and funny. My 4th grade daughter likes it a lot too, though she doesn't get all the jokes. Get this for your kid or get it for yourself - just get it!
The Successor to Calvin and Hobbes.......2004-03-23
Amelia Rules! is a tough gem, a weepy comedy, a painful joy and an hysterically funny tragedy waiting to happen. Amelia and her buds--Reggie, Rhonda and Pajamaman--are struggling with the ins and outs of 4th Grade society, the very real problem of poverty, divorce and just pure meanness. The situations are SO realistic that, in the wrong hands, they could become maudlin and cliche.
But Gownley doesn't do cliche. To relieve the pain, he breathes each situation full of snappy humor and the awe you first felt when you discovered something "new." Reggie is obsessed, not only with superheroes, but with telling colorful background tales for the most mundane of concepts (the "Latchky Kids"--yes, the spelling is correct--is priceless); Pajamaman is the silent loner who sees all and who acts as everyone's therapist. Rhonda Bleenie is that delicate mix of lovestruck girl and amazon tough guy. And then there is Amelia, miss mouth, confused about her place in the universe and worried that she is the reason for her parents' divorce, even as she yells at them for getting their divorce. The kids are so real it's impossible not to want to reach into the frames of the comic and hug them all. If you loved Calvin (another very real little boy) and Hobbes (a pretty
realistic imaginary tiger) you will also love Amelia and the Gang.
The future of comics.......2003-11-18
Walk into any comic book shop, and you'll be overwhelmed by a slew of ugly
books selling sex and violence. It sometimes seems as if the entire industry
has given up on what was once their core demographic...children.
Into this environment steps Amelia Rules! a hip, funny, and literate book that
should appeal to kids and grown-ups alike. Make no mistake, this is great work, and a worthy heir to the cartooning crown of Charles M. Schulz.

Tooner Alert.......2000-08-17
The reviewer from Northern California totally missed the point. Seattle Laugh's is fun, off-beat, and offers up heady number of closet tooners -- both local (including Charles Johnson) and out-of-towners -- who poke fun at the Seattle they know and love. From whale-watching to sipping lattes, Flennigan has caught the ambiance of this wild and wacky city. I love this book! I want more!
Seattle Laughs.......2000-03-23
I loved this book! Yes, it mentions, coffee, rain and slugs--IT'S SEATTLE! These cartoonists hit the mark--with Captain Coffee, Ten Things I Hate About Seattle, Bigfoot Goes Urban, Slug Sushi my favorite Seattle Light--just to name a few. Obviously light deprivation and caffeine brings out the humor in these folks!
Disappointing.......1999-06-13
I purchased this book because I was a great fan of Shary Flenniken's "Trots and Bonnie" in the National Lampoon. Unfortunately, with one exception, the carttons assembled here never come close to that standard. The one exception is "All Roads Lead to the Doghouse," about the old Dog House restaurant in Seattle.
As for the rest, unless you think that endless inane references to lattes are funny, you are going to be disappointed. If these cartoonists are the best that Seattle has to offer, the outsider's view of it as "America's Dullest City" is right on the mark.

Customer Reviews:
great book for starters.......2006-03-24
i have got this book last week and absolutely loved it. I am myself a starter and need an overview of the process and this definitely seems to do justice. Good book. highly recommended for starters trying to make a foray in show biz.
A well-thought-out presentation with real-world experience.......2004-07-16
Written by an Oscar-winning filmmaker who has taught at USC and UCLA film schools, Directing 101 is a basic primer in all aspects of directing - from acquiring quality material to budgets and financing, casting and communicating with actors, production planning, filming techniques, blocking and staging, special concerns for directing shorts, commercials, or music videos, and much more. Directing 101 is so straightforward that it is enthusiastically, wholeheartedly recommended to anyone considering, studying for, or actively pursuing a directing vocation.
Don't bother, Don't waste your money.......2000-07-04
I live in outback Australia books are my only opportunity to learn about Directing so I must be choosy.Directing 101 is so general in its descriptions of film makeing and directing. Half this book is a Glossary. If you live outside America this book is not for you. I feel cheated
Inspiration for aspiring filmmaker.......2000-05-07
This book has really helped to add a new, challenging perpective to the craft. It keeps the reader centered and helps him sharpen his skills. I found it of great help. This is a terrific book that you go back to many times, because its simplicity and practicality are an amazing guide to all those out there whose hollywood dreams have to be fulfilled.

Customer Reviews:
Walkthroughs were OK, but better off not using it.......1999-10-17
Walkthoughs OK. They are mostly hand drawn, and in b&w. I found better help on webpages. I ended up not even using the book because of it's inaccuracy. There are many webpages out there that have full color screen shots that are not hand drawn, and dont spoil the game. I would not recommend this book.
An Average Stategie guide.......1999-10-03
It could've been better, they do have great boss strategies and walkthroughs. There are some problems not all there info is accurate, like names of items and such, I think mainly because they got mixed up w/ the game that cam out in Japan too. They don't tell you what level you should be for certain bosses, but not most strategie guides do, I used this throughout the game and didn't find too much trouble w/ it. I havn't seen any others guides for this most excellent RPG.
:(.......1999-09-27
This certainly WAS unathurized -as the company would NEVER allow something the bad to be official!! The translation of the game was terrible and it didn't even cover everthing! This is just about as accurate as the Dic dub of Sailor Moon was to the original! O_o;
all I have to say is that it's a good thing I got it free with my preorder!
BAD.......1999-08-06
They didn't get names right. They didn't know thier right from thier left. They used the wrong strategys when it came to beating bosses.
This book sucked!.......1999-08-02
This book sucked! A blank note book would have been as much of a help as this guide was. All I can say is if I were blind and this were my guide I would be walking though an intersection in the middle of rush hour. I implore you not to waste your money on this book. If you want a real guide buy the one produced by the company. It may be a little more expensive ,but it is a million times better.

great book.......2007-08-29
Very useful for the the line of the work of the manufacturing process. I enjoyed reading it and utlize in my job.
Book Description
Diana Abu-Jaber’s vibrant, humorous memoir weaves together stories of being raised by a food-obsessed Jordanian father with tales of Lake Ontario shish kabob cookouts and goat stew feasts under Bedouin tents in the desert. These sensuously evoked repasts, complete with recipes, in turn illuminate the two cultures of Diana's childhood–American and Jordanian–while helping to paint a loving and complex portrait of her impractical, displaced immigrant father who, like many an immigrant before him, cooked to remember the place he came from and to pass that connection on to his children. The Language of Baklava irresistably invites us to sit down at the table with Diana’s family, sharing unforgettable meals that turn out to be as much about “grace, difference, faith, love” as they are about food.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful.......2007-01-15
This is a great story - Abu-Jaber shares beautiful stories of growing up with a Jordanian father and an American mother. As someone close to Middle-Eastern expats, I recognised a lot of the feelings, emotions and social situations she describes: the longing for a long lost country that is one embellished from childhood memories, the importance of food as a source of comfort and a way to bring continuation to a new lifestyle in a foreign country, the importance of family, the unity between a family that is scattered around the world but whose heritage keeps them together. I thought it was very enjoyable and entertaining. It should be especially interesting to people interested in Middle-Eastern culture and those who are or know any expats/immigrants like Abu-Jaber's father. For a deeper and less light-toned stories, I also recommend Crescent, or West of the Jordan.
Moving and memorable.......2006-08-05
Terrific memoir, funny and moving. Pretty good recipes too! Highly recommend.
Moving and Delicious.......2006-06-14
A lovely book, reminding me somewhat of my own childhood and my over-the-top overprotective father. The descriptions of her family's meals are incredible. I found myself rushing to make the recipes, looking forward to enjoying devouring them as I read, like I was sitting at the table with the author.
One of those books that you think, "Ok, it's late... I'll just read until the end of this chapter," then you don't put it down.
Well, if you're a foodie daughter of an immigrant like me, anyway.
So Moving.......2006-06-13
Reading The Language of Baklava, I felt like I'd stepped into a 'lost world'-- the rich memories and sensations and stories were outstanding. This is my favorite kind of book, the kind that I have trouble finding any more, where I feel like you enter the heart and mind of a life and a place. I will never forget this book.
Book Description
From the acclaimed author of Crescent, called “radiant, wise, and passionate” by the Chicago Tribune, here is a vibrant, humorous memoir of growing up with a gregarious Jordanian father who loved to cook. Diana Abu-Jaber weaves the story of her life in upstate New York and in Jordan around vividly remembered meals: everything from Lake Ontario shish kabob cookouts with her Arab-American cousins to goat stew feasts under a Bedouin tent in the desert. These sensuously evoked meals in turn illuminate the two cultures of Diana’s childhood–American and Jordanian–and the
richness and difficulty of straddling both. They also bring her wonderfully eccentric family to life, most memorably her imperious American grandmother and her impractical, hotheaded, displaced immigrant father, who, like many an immigrant before him, cooked to remember the place he came from and to pass that connection on to his children.
As she does in her fiction, Diana draws us in with her exquisite insight and compassion, and with her amazing talent for describing food and the myriad pleasures and adventures associated with cooking and eating. Each chapter contains mouthwatering recipes for many of the dishes described, from her Middle Eastern grandmother’s Mad Genius Knaffea to her American grandmother’s Easy Roast Beef, to her aunt Aya’s Poetic Baklava. The Language of Baklava gives us the chance not only to grow up alongside Diana, but also to share meals with her every step of the way–unforgettable feasts that teach her, and us, as much about iden-tity, love, and family as they do about food.
Customer Reviews:
family and cooking.......2007-08-04
A delightful book, filled with interesting stories about a larger-than-life bunch of characters and enhanced by recipes for the foods they eat. Meet a family pulled between Jordan and America, experience their tumuluous activities and sample (at least in imagination) the wonderful foods they are always eating.
Please don't let it end..........2006-06-10
Viscerally satisfying, moving, poetic...I can't get it out of my head...I wish it could have gone on and on and on....I want more....I want to cook with Ghasan...be fed rice from his hand...I want to hear more about how her Arab family loved Diana, and about her grown up love hinted at near the end of the book...how her sister's perceived the same world...I want to eat and sleep with Bedouin's in the desert by firelight...Please feed me more...
not for the squeamish.......2006-02-12
This is a miserable book. A few minutes in, it has a description of meat running with blood, then shortly later a detailed description of a botched, brutal slaughter of a baby lamb. That's when I tossed the book into the rubbish pile. I'd give it negative stars if that were possible, it certainly doesn't deserve even one star.
It made me HUNGRY.......2006-01-17
I loved Diana's humor and writing style. She made me very hungry but most importantly, she made me want to visit Jordan and be with Bedouins! She was very candid in criticizing what is wrong with the Arabic culture. I thought she did a great job and I recommend this book to all Americans but you'd better have an Arabic restaurant near you!
Best Memoir I've Read - and I read a few.......2005-08-05
I just finished "The Language of Baklava" and loved the style, the honesty, the capture of nuances and details, and sense of humor. Having read many excellent food, travel, immigrant or multiethnic memoirists, this surpasses them all.
As an Arab immigrant, I laughed out loud at the precise and non judgmental accounts contrasting Arab and American ways. I will strongly recommend this book to my American wife who is incessantly befuddled by my family's behavior when they visit or we visit them.
This book is beyond food memories, it should be a classic of growing up as an immigrant's offspring. Diana Abu Jaber has a wonderful gift of making us feel with her and for her; of making us laugh and cry with her.
