Book Description

No Way!.......2004-12-03
I totally loved this book, but I can't believe someone would put that as their favorite part. Everyone knows that the best past was when Grimmy ate the food and then had bad breath.
AWESOME!.......2000-04-06
IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A GREAT BOOK TO READ, GRIMMY IS ONE OF THE BEST THAT I HAVE EVER READ. IT IS FULL OF SURPRISES; EVERY TIME I READ IT I NOTICE SOMETHING NEW. IF YOU LIKE COMICS AND COMEDY THIS IS YOUR BOOK! THE BEST PART IS WHEN GRIMMY FINDS OUT IT'S SUPPER TIME. HE RUNS, AND TRIPS, AND FALLS INTO HIS DOG FOOD!

Customer Reviews:
This is the stupidest book ever!.......2002-06-15
Stupidly ignoring the other bad recomendations, I purchased this book. It has the dumbest ideas I have ever seen! Kissing should be intimate and romantic but all of these ideas are about as sensual as if a 6 year old had thought of them. Most of them are silly. So silly that if anyone did them to me I would probably burst out laughing at them rather than want to kiss them. For example, wear a badge that says kissing police and arrest your lover for a kiss? Some of them are completely uncreative. She names kisses the E kiss or the L kiss and then names body parts that you could kiss that start with those letters. The dumbest idea was to kiss your lover on a pile of dirty laundry. May I ask why anyone would enjoy this? This is a horrible, uncreative, stupid book. Please save your money and don't make the mistake of buying it.
Gag me!.......2002-01-13
Please don't give this book to anyone who might be disgusted by the idea of a "Diaper Kiss", a "Sweat Kiss", or anything like that. The author's ideas of what is romantic are gaggingly, sickeningly saccharine and some border on the irritating and intrusive (ex. page 69: "Men: find her lingerie drawer and draw 'XXX' with her lip-liner pencil, on her undergarments.") Most of these ideas would probably anger the average man or woman. Proceed with caution.
Kissing Forever.......2000-02-04
365 WAYS TO KISS YOUR LOVE is a refreshing, clever gift book for everyone who kisses, has been kissed or wants someone else to think about kissing. And it is a great gift any time of the year. I highly recommend this book to kissers of all ages. Jill
My kissing inefficiency.......1997-02-07
I enjoyed the novels candid look at the simple act of kissing. Society seems to overlokk kissing and just hop into bed first.
The problem that I had with this book, is that instead of a new kiss everyday for 365 days, I used all the kisses in one day. I hope this is the abridged version, because I need some more ideas.

Book Description
In Game Theory and the Social Contract, Ken Binmore argues that game theory provides a systematic tool for investigating ethical matters. His reinterpretation of classical social contract ideas within a game-theoretic framework generates new insights into the fundamental questions of social philosophy. He clears the way for this ambitious endeavor by first focusing on foundational issues -- paying particular attention to the failings of recent attempts to import game -- theoretic ideas into social and political philosophy.
Binmore shows how ideas drawn from the classic expositions of Harsanyi and Rawls produce a synthesis that is consistent with the modern theory of noncooperative games. In the process, he notes logical weaknesses in other analyses of social cooperation and coordination, such as those offered by Rousseau, Kant, Gauthier, and Nozick. He persuasively argues that much of the current literature elaborates a faulty analysis of an irrelevant game.
Game Theory and the Social Contract makes game-theoretic ideas more widely accessible to those with only a limited knowledge of the field. Instructional material is woven into the narrative, which is illustrated with many simple examples, and the mathematical content has been reduced to a minimum.
Customer Reviews:
Upgrading Rawls' "Theory of Justice".......2001-03-02
This is part one of Ken Binmore's exciting theory of the social contract taking up the discussion that took place in the 70ies after the publication of John Rawls' "Theory of Justice". While he sticks to the idea of a social contract reached through voluntary agreement in the Original Position, he also considers the utilitarian critique such as Harsanyi's. But Binmore does much more than that. He translates Rawls' metaphysical idea of a reflective equilibrium into a two-stage bargaining game with flesh and bones. He stresses the tautological character of game-theoretic tools which in this context becomes an advantage. By comparison of the ethical properties of allocations reached via competitive markets and those reached through bargaining in the original position he tries to identify a demarcation line for the decentralized aggregation of individual preferences. Binmore's book is going to be a challenge to any reader interested in the problem of explaining progress in human societies.
Classic Games like Prisoners' Dilemma applied to Social Sci.......1999-07-09
Many social scientists do not like the results and correct analysis of the game Prisoners' Dilemma and try to alter the situation by analyzing the game incorrectly. Binmore points out that what these folks want is a different model game. The problem is that these folks don't know enough game theory or utility theory.

Book Description
The typical American worker puts in nine weeks more on the job than his or her European counterpart. The costs of this overwork are enormous, both personally and societally. This bracing collection of essays is both a wide-ranging analysis of the phenomenon and a blueprint for change. With contributions by such notable names as Vicki Robin, author of Your Money or Your Life, and David Korten, author of When Corporations Rule the World, this book shows what ordinary citizens can do to restore balance to themselves and their communities. Take Back Your Time is the official handbook for Take Back Your Time Day, a national event rallying support for reclaiming a proper work-life balance.
Customer Reviews:
A great compilation of essays on a crucial topic.......2007-06-14
With this book, John de Graaf provides an opportunity to sit down with talented writers and perceptive thinkers, and hear their views on one of society's most pressing problems - time poverty. As we race to produce more stuff - stuff that is poisoning our environment - we lose the time we need to take care of ourselves and our families, particularly those most in need of care, the very young, the very old, and even our pets. As this book shows, Americans' single-minded focus on production comes at the expense of other areas of life that desperately need our time and attention. Children growing up in institutionalized care, pets being dumped at shelters, citizens relinquishing their right to vote, obesity becoming epidemic as fast food replaces home cooking, landfills overflowing with the items we frenetically produce; the list goes on. In addition to viewing the problem from several interesting and diverse perspectives, the book includes essays on possible solutions and provides ways for readers to get involved. Everyone should find the time to read this important and engaging book.
Every Person In America Should Read This Book.......2007-05-29
This is something that needs to be forwarded around. We need to spread the word.
MSNBC had the nerve to do a news story saying people in the US have the lowest productivity in the first world, but as this book points out, people in the US work an average of 9 more weeks than other first world countries. People who put in 10 and 12 hour work days as we do and don't take vacations are exhausted, and have terrible health and productivity as a result of it.
European countries such as the United Kingdom where they eat more sugar and fat than we do, are thinner and in better health because they are not working themselves to death as we are.
One of my favorite quotes from this book, is "Spending time with your family is a family value."
The Mother Manifesto is is a co production of Take Back Your Time and MomsRising
The Motherhood Manifesto: What America's Moms Want - and What To Do About It
Time: The ULTIMATE commodity.......2004-11-18
For years I've thought of Europe as like the grandfather... sitting on the porch, watching America in action. He sits there, somewhat envious, reminiscing about the days when he used to be the top dog himself. But the envy is shortlived; in truth, he would never trade places with us, for he knows that the true cost of being able to call yourself #1 is far too high.
Money and power, after all, aren't everything.
In Take Back Your Time, de Graaf looks at a culture that is all about the material short term and cannot see beyond. It's a book that reminds us that it's OUR time, that this is a commodity that we CHOOSE to trade for things like money, status and comfort. I use the word 'remind' loosely--in truth, it's almost a new concept, for many. We hear stories of millionaires on their deathbed who would give everything to have one more year, yet other millionaires will do 15 hours tomorrow rather than think about it. Our culture is basically designed to HAVE TO work like this: the economy would go bust if we put anything before money. You could argue it's always been that way, but not to this extreme: every year we trade more hours so as to buy bigger houses, better cars, more gadgets, etc. This is a book that all of America needs to read. If only we had the time.
Live deeper, not faster.......2004-11-13
It's the 900 pound gorilla in America that everyone should be talking about: time poverty. Most folks accept it as unavoidable; that's just the way life is. Work, work, work. Busy, busy, busy. Bulloney, says this book. I'm not doing too bad but I see the trappings of modern existence creeping into my life and I'm inspired to keep them in check. This book is particularly strong because it draws on the opinions of many progressive thinkers, rather that just one lone voice in the wilderness. Stop buying stuff, invest time in your family and community and civic society. Live deeper. I'm working on it. Are you?
excellent book.......2004-01-18

Book Description
He was the third man to walk on the moon. And the first to dance on it.
For Pete Conrad, it was all about the ride. Nicknamed the Comeback Kid, he survived his family's financial hardships, overcame dyslexia, landed a Navy scholarship to Princeton, and became one of the country's elite test pilots. Never the squeaky clean NASA poster boy, he famously bounced himself out of the Mercury Program but came roaring back to fly two Gemini missions, walk on the moon as Commander of Apollo 12, command the first Skylab, and work to develop the first re-usable commercial rocket-logging more time in space than all the original astronauts combined. Based on interviews conducted with Conrad by his wife before his untimely death, Rocketman is the amazing-but-true, surprisingly candid insider's view of the greatest ride in history, America's glorious race to the stars, as seen through the eyes of the real Space Cowboy: Pete Conrad, the Rocketman.
Customer Reviews:
Enormously Dissapointing.......2007-06-30
Pete Conrad had a fairly colorful style about him, part cowboy - part engineer - full time iconoclast. However, these traits do not come thru in this book. The writing does not convey the dynamics of the man, so ultimately it becomes little more than a 'just the facts' biography.
While I doubt any astronaut book came come close to capturing the human story of space Michael Collins' "Carrying The Fire", this book had a chance since it focused upon one of the truly unique characters in the space program. So am immensely dissapointed at the final product.
Factual errors.......2007-03-28
I enjoy reading about this time in American History and consider myself a student of the early space program. In that regard, in a brief perusal of the book, I have already noticed some factual errors that should have been caught by the editor or by Mr. Klausner. First, in the picture section, it shows a picture of Pete on the ladder about to board an F4 Phantom, yet the label says that he is posing in front of a T-38. Another error is related to the issue with "Max Peck". Max Peck was the Mgr of the Rice Hotel in 1962. After the 2nd group of astronauts was chosen, including, Frank Borman, Pete Conrad, Jim Lovell, Ed White and Neil Armstrong they were asked to check in under the Mgr's name to avoid their names reaching the press prior to their formal introduction. However, this book states that this happened back in 1959 when the first 32 candidates for the Mercury program checked into a a non-disclosed hotel in Washington. Not only is that fact wrong, but they didn't check into a hotel in 1959 for that first meeting but the Dolly Madison house in Washington.
Rocketman: Astronaut Pete Conrad's Incredible Ride To The Moon And Beyond.......2007-03-15
The book arrived within the scheduled delivery time in excellent condition.
Thank you,
Mark & Francine Keehnel
Great guy, deserves a better book.......2007-01-05
I've read way too many space books, so I love the subject matter, but the style of this one was too breezy, lacking in important detail. Each chapter is about 12 words long, so you get the impression this was either rushed through or intended for young adults. I learned little about the man, whom I wholly admire. Did he alienate anybody? Were there any character flaws? Also, I was looking to learn more of an insider's view of Gemini and Apollo, but it was all very superficial, heard-it-before material. I'd read a bit about Conrad, like his attempt to smuggle onto the moon a huge cowboy hat to fit over his space helmet, or his attempt at trick photography on the lunar surface, hoping to befuddle the photo analysts later. Neither of these gems were in the book. He's a great guy, a pilot's pilot, a problem-solving magician with a live-for-the-moment spirit. But the book is really junk food, even for a space nut like myself. Sorry, Pete. They done ya wrong.
Good read!.......2006-11-10
I've read a number of books written by astronauts and this one ranks near the top. While I enjoyed the humor and frankness of Mike Mulane's "Riding Rockets" better, this book by Nancy Conrad tells a great story. If you want to know the story of one of the 12 people to step foot on the moon, this is a great read. Thanks to Mrs. Conrad for sharing.

Hunt's complex and moving history is a vital corrective to accounts which equate the anti-war movement with student activists as well as to those who persist in seeing veterans as passive victims."
--Marilyn B. Young, author of The Vietnam Wars
"Explodes one of the most persistent and pernicious myths attached to the 1960s: that the anti-war movement was anti-GI and anti-veteran. How could that be, when, as Hunt shows, many of the most committed and eloquent opponents of the Vietnam war were themselves veterans of the conflict in Southeast Asia. The Vietnam Veterans Against the War were heroes then, and they deserve to be remembered as heroes today."
--Maurice Isserman, Hamilton College
"For all kinds of veterans of the Sixties era, this book offers powerful testimony on the meaning of patriotism and moral courage. For younger people, whose images of the Sixties are often caught in the caricatures of the mass media, Hunt's sophisticated account of veterans' anti-war protest evokes new understanding, and I think, hard questions about a difficult time."
--David Farber, author of The Age of Great Dreams
The anti-Vietnam War movement in the United States is perhaps best remembered for its young, counterculture student protesters. However, the Vietnam War was the first conflict in American history in which a substantial number of military personnel actively protested the war while it was in progress.
In
The Turning, Andrew Hunt reclaims the history of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), an organization that transformed the antiwar movement by placing Vietnam veterans in the forefront of the nationwide struggle to end the war. Misunderstood by both authorities and radicals alike, VVAW members were mostly young men who had served in Vietnam and returned profoundly disillusioned with the rationale for the war and with American conduct in Southeast Asia. Angry, impassioned, and uncompromisingly militant, the VVAW that Hunt chronicles in this first history of the organization posed a formidable threat to America's Vietnam policy and further contributed to the sense that the nation was under siege from within.
Based on extensive interviews and in-depth primary research, including recently declassified government files,
The Turning is a vivid history of the men who risked censures, stigma, even imprisonment for a cause they believed to be "an extended tour of duty."
Customer Reviews:
Excellent work.......2001-10-16
This book is, to say the least, well-written. It is concise, detailed, written with the same degree of passion for history that characterizes all of Hunt's work. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in the response to the Vietnam War and its impact upon American society.
A vital historic reading assignment for the American People.......2000-04-15
This remarkable account takes the American people inside the framework of one of the most spiritual and politically cutting-edge organizations founded within American boundaries during the entire Cold War, the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). "The Turning" by Andrew E. Hunt is a must-read for all serious students of the Vietnam War contemplating its profound effect on both American culture and the very veterans who were ordered to "pay any price and bear any burden" for the mistaken political and military policies of their nation's involvement in the Southeast Asian conflict. The book's account of the various veterans--from Bobby Muller, John Kerry, Barry Romo, Bill Ehrhart, just to name a few-- who so courageously faced down the entire nation by witnessing in repeated public demonstrations what was REALLY GOING ON in the war, is a stunning reminder to all Americans and the World that for democracy to last, it must have a strong, clear, core collective conscience. No other organization so poignantly and forcefully challenged U.S. policy in Indochina as did the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. Even today, all history texts pertaining to this period touch the subject of VVAW's presence as the cutting edge of the American anti-war movement, and indeed, of our national conscience at the time. It is not surprising to me that the veterans of VVAW, such as Mr. Bobby (USMC lst Lt. 1968-69), also launched the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) in 1979, which fought for the rights of the veterans of that conflict against an embarrassingly silent American government. Mr. Muller went on in his life to also found the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) in 1980 which dealt with the issues of war and its consequences. This remarkable veteran organized the first visit of VVA vets back to Hanoi during Christmas in 1981 and, in doing so, launched the entire process of reconciliation between veterans' groups and the governments of both America and Vietnam which culminated in the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations in July of 1995. While following this most courageous path of peace, VVAF--under Mr. Muller's leadership-- initiated rehabilitation and humanitarian clinics in both Vietnam and Cambodia in the early 90's, assisting the thousands of forgotten, innocent landmine victims suffering throughout Indochina. This effort lead to Mr. Muller's conception of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) in 1991 which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 and became a legally-binding international treaty in March of 1999. The core qualities of seeking justice and witnessing truth inherent in VVAW's spiritual influence on the veterans who belonged to it in the 60's, 70's and up to the present, can be evidenced today in the continued remarkable achievements of those vets like Mr. Bobby Muller. By understanding the organization VVAW--its orgins and evolution-- the reader will learn to appreciate how men,-- under heavy fire of both war and protest of war--, have carried within their souls the spark to enlighten and change the world and humanity for the better. Anyone with a conscience should read this book and be challenged by the information it contains. Thank you, Mr. Hunt, for taking the time to compile this vital history of a unique organization which helped the conscience of this nation turn towards sorely-needed enlightment.

Book Description
More than two decades have passed since a car driven by Senator Edward Kennedy plunged off Dike Bridge on Chappaquiddick killing former staffer Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy has seen the spector of that mishap haunt, frustrate and finally end his presidential ambitions.
Not even the Kennedy's political weight has suppressed the questions left unresolved by the accident investigations. Why was Kennedy with Kopechne in a remote part of the island? Why did he flee--how could he flee--an accident scene while she drowned? And why didn't he report the accident until the following morning?
Chappaquiddick came to symbolize cover-up, incompetence, raw power, and in the end, a cruel travesty of justice. A story of power and influence that schemed to assure a continued political life for Ted Kennedy.

Interesting Comparison.......2005-12-03
It's interesting to compare the aquatic exploits of Teddy Kennedy to those of his brother John, who, in time of war and under heavy enemy fire, after having his PT Boat shot out from under him, swam back to rescue a wounded fellow crewman and swam him to safety, holding him with his teeth.
Apparently courage and integrity are not hereditary.
The Powerful Need Not Pay the Piper.......2005-09-13
I followed the trial and read the book years later and I still wonder how any Massachusetts voter who is a critical thinker could keep reelecting Kennedy.
I recall that a State Trooper named Flynn who was involved in the investigation was feeding the Kennedy camp inside information and eventually went to work for the Senator.
I also remember that one of the charges of which he was found guilty called for a mandatory two year prison term that was suspended by the judge. It is stated in the book that a "mandatory sentence may not be suspended."
Isn't one of the Democratic mantras "Equal justice for all
Too Many Eyewitnesses - To Hide The Truth.......2005-09-01
Ted Kennedy, after consuming numerous alcoholic beverages, leaves a private party with a young lady not his wife. His wife, you see, is pregnant and is at home back in Massachussetts.
Sen. Kennedy is driving with a suspended license.
A local peace officer wonders if Kennedy's car is lost after seeing it first go one way and then back up and start going a different way. He approaches it on foot. The car then takes off at a high rate of speed.
Shortly after this, the car drives off of Chappaquiddick Bridge, flips over and lands upside down in 8 feet of water. Sen. Kennedy exits the vehicle. The young woman with him does not.
For the next 9 hours, instead of simply calling the police and rescue workers, Sen. Kennedy desperately goes to work on an alibi.
Kennedy confesses the accident to two people, one of whom is his cousin and lawyer, Joseph Gargan. They press him to report the accident, which he is understandably reluctant to do. The two men press Kennedy so much, he surprises them by shouting that he will report the accident and then dives into the lake and swims the harbor to the hotel where he was staying.
Taking Kennedy at his word, Gargan and the other man remain on the Island. In the morning, Gargan is stunned to find Kennedy chatting with friends and getting ready to head for breakfast.
Not only did Kennedy not report the accident, he also took pains to be seen by a hotel staff member late that night and madee a point of asking the man what time it was.
Two fishermen discovered the upside down car next to the bridge that morning, while Kennedy was still feverishly working on his alibi.
To drink and drive is a crime. To flee the scene of an accident is a crime. To fail to render aid to someone injured in an accident you caused is a crime. While sleeping around on your wife is not a crime, it does display poor judgement and a low moral character.
Senator Kennedy did all these things and because he is a Kennedy, he got away with it. Had you or I gotten drunk and driven off a bridge with someone in the car with us, and we left them to die while we chose not to report the accident and instead tried to invent an alibi, you or I would go to prison. We are not Kennedys.
The key merit of this book is that it demonstrates how in America today someone with power and influence can engage in criminal conduct and not only never be called to account for their crimes, but can even flourish and sit in position of moral authority over others.
Another Kennedy Escape from Justice.......2004-07-28
There is no Kennedy bashing in this book, just the truth. How can a reporter rely too heavily on witnesses? The facts are plain. He did it, she was alive in the car as was proven in court even though the judge (the best one Kennedy money can buy) would not allow ANY testimony stating the fact she was.
Only a great catch of the prosecution to the use of the word "froth" would make this possible. He lied about it, tried to cover it up, tried to get someone else to take the blame for it.. The Kennedy family bought the silence of the Kopechne family for a mere $100,000 and immediately went into the ignore it and it will go away phase.
This book is a must read for America to see how the Kennedy family manipulates the truth and the facts to wiggle out of the responibilty for their CONTINUING list of transgressions. Leo Damore presents it all in a consice edition that will outrage any normal law abiding citizen. It is sickening to read how Teddy is instantly more concerned about saving his political career than the life of the girl (the one without the panties) trapped inside his car.... and he got away with it. again.
A haunting and enduring tragedy.......2003-10-10
I bought this book in July of 2000, after watching an extraordinary 2-hour installment about the story on A&E's "Investigative Reports" (also available on videotape). The author here, Leo Damore, was also part of the television program. Just as the video holds up to repeated viewing, so have I found I've returned more than once to the book. Called 'the most famous traffic fatality in American politics,' it certainly remains that.
'Profile in Courage' this is not. I was 15 the summer of this accident and then had only a teenager's curiosity about it. One more 'Kennedy tragedy,' but this one proves to be one that could have and should have been avoided. I distinctly remember the carried-on-all-networks 'statement' the senator gave days late, stage-managed to nth. And not very believable. What I hadn't remembered was that even without Chappaquiddick, it was hardly a slow news week; it was the same weekend we'd first landed on the moon. According to the book, the latest mishap of the Kennedy family's pushed the moon story to the bottom of page one of "The Boston Globe." I remember the cute neck brace too, which apparently didn't go on for one or two days after the accident, and after many sources in the book had noticed no incapacity in the senator. It would be a pleasure to say 'No one today could get away with the circumvention and manipulation of law enforcement and investigation that was at work here. But don't expect to hear it from someone who sat through nine 1995 months of the Simpson criminal proceedings. If Robert Blake walks too, good luck un-convincing me that the rich and famous get away with it every time.
Damore relies heavily on the recollections of Joseph A. Gargan, a Kennedy insider, and one of the first people the senator confessed the accident to. After nearly two decades Gargan was ready to talk. I find him credible, but it's a messy story and no one comes up smelling like a hero. If nothing else, "Senatorial Privilege" is a study of how much of yourself you can trade away to get close to power and celebrity. Gargan is no enviable figure looking back from late middle-age, and having played sycophantic clean-up man for so much of it.
But I couldn't put this book down, which I bought used, and I recommend it. (From the cellophane over the dust jacket, it was clearly once a library hardcover edition, but it was in fully satisfactory condition.) It's one of the best non-fiction works I've read in recent years. Mary Jo Kopechne would be 63 this year.

Book Description
Why do birds often live in pairs and rear chicks together, whereas female mammals usually live in groups and rear their young without male help? Why do males sometimes live with a single mate when they are capable of fertilizing more than one female's eggs? Is male helping behavior important for monogamous partnerships? This book provides answers concerning the biological roots of social monogamy in animal groups as diverse as ungulates, carnivores, rodents, birds and primates (including humans) for students and researchers in behavioral ecology, evolutionary anthropology and zoology.
