DISAPPOINTING AND DISMAL.......2007-02-17
This book does not even deserve one star! It is that "bad" a publication!! To say that this book is disappointing and dismal is an understatement -- it is yet another horrible attempt to feed into the fear of clowns and thereby deprive the world of the pleasure of laughter. This author takes photos of famous and beautiful clowns and tries to make them ugly for the simple pursuit of $$$$. Many of the photos that were included were used without permission of the persons photographed -- how do I know? I know because I am friends with some of the clowns pictured. They were as shocked as I was at being included in this publication. Shame, shame, SHAME on not only the author, but the publisher, as well.
Creepy Ha-Ha.......2006-06-12
What a great idea. This is a small hardback with loads of photographs of clowns - real ones, from way back when right up to now. None of them are of slasher movie clowns or specially created Killer Klowns, they're all real. Which makes them more scary. There's also a great surprise in the middle of the book. The captions are at the back though, which means you have to keep turning back to see who's who, but they're really creepy, too.
The blurb says that looking at this is a great way to get over coulrophobia, but it could just as well give you the fear of clowns.

Customer Reviews:
Technical tool encyclopedia.......2007-06-10
If you are looking for a technical tool reference book for your investing/trading library this is the one. This book covers (in alphabetical order) every trading tool I am aware of including the O' Neal CAN SLIM method, trend lines, volume, stochastics, Williams %R, every kind of moving average, candlestick charting, decline/advance, oscillators and just about everything else you will run across in trading stocks. The author gives an overview of the indicator, the interpretation, an example, then shows how to calculate it with the mathematical formulas used and a table for reference. I read this book from cover to cover and learned a great deal. I believe it is a must have for beginners if you are serious about using technical tools to time your trades correctly at proper buy points.
Good perspective on technical analysis........2007-05-25
Steven Achelis does a pretty decent job of showing what the stock market really is: just a big jumble of numbers completely determined by human emotion. And because pretty much anything involving human emotion is cyclical, it also becomes somewhat predictable.
This book presents an excellent selection of technical indicators that do a number of different things. It also presents formulas for most of the indicators.
Not only Technical Analysis..........2007-04-30
... but also a well written understanding of the mathematical models that make them work. If you trade with indicators, you need this book along with "Pring".
Good Reference, but weak on advice........2007-02-01
As the title says, this covers technical analysis (the analysis of securities based on price patterns) from A to Z, that is to say all the various approaches are covered alphabetically. Everything is covered but not in extensive detail. Each approach is covered in terms of an overview of the approach, an interpretation of the approach, and an example (generally with suitable graphs). No attempt is made to inject the author's preferences or any statistical analysis of the effectiveness of the approach. As such, this is more of a dictionary than a book on investment advice. This is not to say that dictionaries are useless, they are very useful, but they are not the same as a book on how to write. This book will tell you what the particular system is, not whether it is any good. Also, there are many variations of most of the systems and many different values for the parameters used by the systems, so other references will be required if you actually want to apply any of these approaches. The reader should be forewarned, however, that Technical Analysis is only one approach to the market. Many believe that this approach is little more than tealeaf reading and they rely on the analysis of the fundamentals of the balance sheet of the company and its prospects for future growth.
Dictionary with concise commentary and examples.......2006-12-17
Extremely pleased with the purchase and reading experience. The book covers everything I know about and much more that I didn't. I was able to make oscillators, from the explanations given, on excel and was able to make the charts. The Chande Momentum Oscillator is an added, and needed, tool for my analysis for investment. I bought this book because it was the one called out in the Yahoo charts trying to explain the Stoch Oscillator; which, I wanted to understand, and now do.

Fun to read........2007-07-25
This book shouldn't be over analyzed. It's not a Dickens novel, it's a cheap paperback about a dead rock star. Some of the stories might be hear-say, and the book is blantant hero worship. When I was a teenager, Jim Morrison was my hero. There were so many other teenagers I knew who felt the same. We idolized this rebellious, charasmatic man who sang catchy lyrics. We also admired his bad behavior, which is wrong, but common with teenagers. Fortunately, most of us grew out of it. The author, Danny Sugarman, had a serious case of hero worship. In his early teens, Danny was allowed to hang out with Jim Morrison regularly. That is a teenager's dream, I can imagine that would be a powerful experience for a young person. Unfornately, Danny never grew out of the hero worship stage. Well into adulthood, he was obsessed with Morrison. He would even try to look like Morrison, wearing the same hairstyle, etc. I don't think this was healthy behavior. It is sad to see an adult who cannot move on from a normal childhood process. His resulting books are perfect for juveniles who are still in their hero worship phase. This book is fun to read. I highly recommend it to a teenage rock fan, but I recommend against the idolization of Jim's drug use and sexual battery.
READ IT OVER AGAIN.......2007-05-21
I bought this book at a Tag Sale years back, and read it twice. It's a great book, well-written about Jim and the doors that you could read over and over again. This is one of the best books that I read about Jim Morrison, and if you are a DOORS fan you will enjoy this book.
No One Here Gets Out Alive.......2007-03-09
One of, if not the best books about the life & death if Jim Morrison. It captures the time (the 60's) & the other members of the Doors.
The best doors book ever written.......2007-01-26
I have read this book over and over and have never been bored with reading it.It really puts you in the 60's it really puts you there with the doors from the beginning to the end.Danny Sugerman was there and he has written this book with great intergrity.Danny was a huge fan and whether or not he has made out to make Morrison out to be God is just justification because he was and always will be a rock n roll God.I suggest whether your a Doors fan or not go and buy this book its a great read.
Fluffiest Rock Biography of All-Time-Jim Morrison's Memory Deserves Justice........2006-10-12
As a young teenager,i enjoyed the Doors' philosophical pop-tunes on birth, life and death. In 1998,i was departing a flight ,from Munich to O'Hare, and noticed a passanger's rucksack ,on the strap-handle.It was signed by Robby Krieger.Their influence is global and contemporary. All their albums are still great.Back in 1985,i had discovered this paperback on Jim and the Doors.I think the authors were trying to tap into the spirit of JM and relay it to the reading public. The writing is rather weak and puerile.Well,i felt that a media-shaped picture was presented, and not the overall real portrait of Jim and Pamela. It gives no solid historical background,no psychological insight or current info ,on the whole rock group either. It's a flippy, dippy, hippie look at the whole experience. What did amaze me,was that Jim was able to take a novelist's or philosopher's thoughts ,and channel their energies and writings into some rather catchy top-ten rock songs.Eventhough Jim,like so many other young 60's people, was just vocally responding to the swift social changes occuring before their very eyes. There is no discussion about Jim being a modern shaman, trapped in the Western Christian world. This is sadly considered thee definitive book on the Morrison & the Doors.I love Oliver Stone's movies, except one. Oliver Stone's 'Doors' flick ,shows a flippy-dippy drunken-sailor Morrison ,meandering the stygian flow of the music and a ridiculous view of the wiccan hand-fasting.Everyone who knew Jim personally ,panned the film. A better book and an even better movie can still be produced.
Update:Check out the book,"The Doors by the Doors",by Ben Fong Torres.

the long-awaited biography of Jim Morrison
Book Description
The Zulu War of 1879 remains one of the best known British colonial wars and included two battles whose names reverberate through history. At Isandlwana the Zulus inflicted a crushing defeat on the British; the gallant British defence at Rorke's Drift followed and re-established British prestige. Yet as this book shows, there was more to the war than this. Six months of brutal fighting followed, until the Zulu kingdom was broken up, its king imprisoned and the whole structure of the Zulu state destroyed. Years of internecine strife followed, until the British finally annexed Zululand as a colonial possession.
Customer Reviews:
Good introduction to the zulu war.......2005-10-21
This is an excellent introduction to the renown anglo-zulu war of 1879. This title of the Essential History-series is written by Ian Knight, leading expert on zulu history and author of numerous books about the subject. Knight covers all the battles and incidents during the war, such as the battles of Isandlwana, Gingindhlovu, Rorkes Drift, Hlobane, Kambula, Ntombe, relief of Eshowe and Ulundi, each battle are briefly described and most have images and maps associated with them. I find both sides in the conflict portrayed accurately and fair by Knight, although I guess he exaggerates the abilities of the zulu impis and seem to put their estimated losses at the lowest possible number
Book Description
No two cities are more symbolic of the modern American metropolis than New York and Los Angeles. But while New York boasts a recently revitalized urban center, Los Angeles is the classic example of sprawl and decentralization, with multiple clusters of economic and social activity dispersed throughout its surrounding area.
This volume presents advanced studies that consider this fundamental difference between New York and Los Angeles while comparing and contrasting politics and culture in each region. An esteemed group of contributors from a wide variety of disciplines considers issues that include immigration, the effects of race and class on residence, the efficacy of public schools, the value of welfare reform, the meaning of mayoral politics, the function of charter reform, and the respective roles of the cinema and art scenes in each city.
Capturing much of what is new and vibrant in urban studies today, New York and Los Angeles will prove to be must reading for scholars in that field, as well as in sociology, political science, and government.

Doug Terry.......2005-05-15
Winston Churchill famously said that America and England constitute "two peoples divided by a common language". In the case of New York and Los Angeles, it is two great cities divided by three thousand miles and, in reality, hundreds of years of history. New York is the potted plant brought over from Europe, with many fresh seeds thrown into the mix. Los Angeles is the end of the road, the place where American dreams are realized and smashed, sometimes in the same instant. LA is the place where American rootlessness runs out of room, where our experiment of rampant capitalism and democratic ideals slams headon into the future. New York is the new birthed from the past, a European city in different clothes. LA is the new from the new, a place unlike any before it. New York looks eastward, LA looks westward and inward. This book by David Halle is a wonderful artistic tour of these two great cities that shows us how different, and how linked, they are both in fact and dream. While some readers might have difficulty with the academic proclivities of the professor inside the writer, all will be rewarded by slogging through the sometimes dense prose. Halle "lives" in New York and commutes to teaching at UCLA, a wonderful, if strained, life style that truly enables his study and gives it a grity authentcity. (Just think of the frequent flyer miles!) I recommend this book highly to any literate resident of either city and all of those inbetween who want to understand more of our two greatest cities. They say what happens in Vegas stays there. Good. What happens in New York and Los Angeles travels around the world, both a symbol for America and emblematic of fragments of a common future for all.
Pass this one by.......2004-03-22
Well, this certainly was a waste of time and money. With dull prose, unoriginal ideas, and a complete lack of revelatory finds, this book seems created to take up space on a shelf without actually adding to anything (except perhaps the author's resume). Don't even both with it.

Book Description
This little book captures Bewick's engaging studies of birds. The fifty four illustrations, nearly half in color, are reproduced from plates used for the two-volume Watercolours and Drawings of Thomas Bewick. Brief descriptions accompany each half-page illustration. A fine introduction to the work of this important naturalist and illustrator.
