Book Description
The former First Lady of New York writes of her reunion and subsequent marriage to her high school sweetheart, more than thirty years after their breakup, and chronicles dozens of similar reunions among couples nationwide in what experts call a twenty-first-century relationship trend.
Poignant and heartwarming, My Boyfriend's Back captures the love story of former high school sweethearts Ed Oster and Donna Hanover-journalist, actress, and First Lady of the City of New York from 1994 to 2001-who, more than thirty years after their breakup at Stanford, reconnected, rekindled their love, and married, becoming part of what experts are calling a "twenty-first-century trend" in relationships. Exploring the myriad ways rekindled love is different from new love and why so many couples are reuniting now, Hanover also details the role of the Internet in this trend, and offers some recommendations-and some warnings-for aspiring "reunitees."
Accompanied by a wide array of other couples' stories from across the country-including celebrities Carol Channing, Suzanne Pleshette and Tom Poston, Nicole Miller, Liza Huber, and others-who have also rediscovered their early loves later in life and are building committed lives together, this book combines expert advice and inspiring anecdotes to help readers reconnect with past loves. Whether it's Googling an ex-boyfriend or attending a class reunion, My Boyfriend's Back encourages readers to find out whatever happened to the ex they can't forget; it is the book single, widowed, and divorced romantics everywhere have been waiting for.
Customer Reviews:
My Boyfriend's NOT Back.......2007-05-21
I looked for a lost love for years and never found him until it was too late. He'd been murdered 1-1/2 years earlier by his then-current girlfriend.
My loss sparked an interest in reading about lost and reconnected loves. This book is recommended by several psychologists who specialize in this particular field.
The recommendation is a good one. The stories are mostly, but not all, happy endings. The age ranges of the reunited couples range from 20s thru 70s. It includes regular folk and some celebrities, like Suzanne Pleshette, the late Tom Poston, and Carol Channing, who reunited with someone from grammar school.
Donna Hanover intersperses her own story of reconnection with the chapters of the book, which are broken down by particular topics of interest. The book was well organized and well written. I enjoyed every page of it. The photos are superfluous, but are, of course, easy to skip.
If you need more material on the subject of lost and found loves, Nancy Kalish, a psychologist has written several books on the subject.
fun.......2007-01-12
got it for my mother in law(she is currently dating her highschool sweetheart). She loves it, and she actually passes it on to her boyfriend to let him read it. I read a few chapters myself, and really emjoyed it.
My sister is the ex-wife.......2006-12-13
I want to know why my sister can't talk about her divorce from Ed Oster that had to take place before this marriage and book could be written. A divorce with a gag order ?
Touching and romantic tale of love rediscovered.......2006-02-09
Do you ever wonder what became of your very first boyfriend or
girlfriend? If so, join the crowd . . . then get hold of MY BOYFRIEND'S
BACK by Donna Hanover.
I listened to this book--also read by the author--on CD and found
it to be both touching and romantic . . . Hanover, the former First
Lady of the City of New York, talks about how she reunited
with her former high school sweetheart more than thirty years
after their breakup.
She talks about how they reconnected, rekindled their love
and married . . . in doing so, she gives helpful advice for those
who might actually want to do the same thing.
Hanover also presents other couples' stories from across
the country, including such celebrities as Carol Channing,
Suzanne Pleashette and Tom Poston, and Nicole Miller . . . it
was interesting to find out that this is actually becoming
a twenty-first century trend in relationships, and that
couples ranging from their twenties to eighties are
engaging in it.
If you're looking for a change of pace, do read MY BOYFRIEND'S
BACK . . . and it will put a smile on your face, as you'll really
feel good for all the relationships that somehow managed to
get together again.
Don't compete with partners who grew up together.......2006-01-27
These real-life stories provide some proof that there is something to said about why our first real loves never leave us. It's terribly romantic but it's the kind of ending that might make current partners real nervous should their partner go to his/her High School reunion. This is especially true if they are still carrying a torch and still always wonder about the other person years after they said good-bye.
No wonder people often worry about their partner's former paramour.... so consider this ... Everyone is going to be different than you, not better or worse. People are at different points in their life when they meet with different people. When you feel that you are being treated as 2nd best, pull back. You are the best thing in someone's life, what they have always wanted and been waiting for. The rest is their stuff and not worthy of you.
If you fear being replaced by a return of a prodigal soul mate ...leave before you are left! If he or she is stuck on their ex ... don't be time filler. And in the meantime ... do everything you can to be clear of your past romances too. Being incomplete with the past is unfair to yourself and another person.
Book Description
Boots on the Ground is a riveting account of the war in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division as it convoys north from Kuwait to Iraq's Tallil Air Base en route to night-and-day battles within the major city of Samawah and its nearby bridges across the Euphrates. Karl Zinsmeister, a frontline reporter who traveled with the 82nd, brilliantly conveys the careful planning and technical wizardry that go into today's warfare, even local firefights, and he brings to life the constant air-ground interactions that are the great innovation of modern precision combat. What exactly does it feel like to travel with a spirited body of fighting men? To come under fire? To cope with the battlefield stresses of sleep-deprivation, and field rations for weeks on end? Readers of this vivid day-to-day diary are left with not only a flashing sequence of strong mental images, but also a notion of the sounds and smells and physical sensations that make modern military action unforgettable.
Ultimately,
Boots on the Ground is a human story: a moving portrayal of the powerful bonds of affection, trust, fear, and dedication that bind real soldiers involved in battle. This is a true-life tale of superbly trained men in extraordinary circumstances, packed with concrete detail, often surpassing fiction for sheer drama.

good report by a kid.......2006-12-01
In the book Boots On The Ground the author tells about his month with the 82 Airborne. The author uses vivid examples about his experience in Iraq.
One of his experiences he tells about how he finds a half blown up kid on the ground. He tells a lot about the kid and how they brought him to safety. The author does a great job writing the story.

Boots on the Ground
A Journal by: Karl Zinsmeister
Boots on the Ground is a great journal/ novel to read. It is written by Karl Zinsmeister who is a journalist who is sent to Iraq for a month to document the life of the 82nd Airborne in the Battle for Iraq. He lives in Madison County, New York. Karl has made many trips around the world for news stories but hadn't been to the war in Iraq yet. Now he has an opportunity to go for an interview with the 82nd Airborne division. He couldn't pass up the offer and was confident he'd return with a compelling story.
When Karl gets to Iraq everything is different than the way that he pictured it would be. His first task was to obtain a military uniform and armor in order to go into combat. He has to buy his equipment at some Iraqi stores. Karl went to the stores and bargained the best that he could in order to get his equipment. He got everything except for NOG (night vision goggles). Karl thought that he wouldn't need the night vision anyways, but he was wrong.
Karl gets into many small conflicts with the enemy and writes in his journal any time that he gets a chance to. He notices that after a while in Iraq, you just adapt to the way a soldier lives. It is difficult at first, but after a couple of weeks he gets the hang of things. Karl is always cautious about what he is going to do but he tries not to show it because others might make fun of him. Some reporters won't go on combat missions so he offers to take their places not knowing what serious situations lie ahead.
Karl is determined to get an awesome story. He wants to prove that he is a phenomenal reporter and show that he has the guts to take any assignment. Karl thinks that this will just be like all the other stories he has reported but he is extremely wrong. His first days of combat are terrible and nerve wracking. In this book Karl tells how the 82nd Airborne is fighting to keep the United States safe. He tells the courage and patriotism of these soldiers and how they are sacrificing their lives in order to protect us.
Boots on the Ground is a great book that tells about the heroes that are in Iraq. It is full of action and suspense. It shows what the men in Iraq are fighting for and why they are in the war. It shows the courage and honor that these men have for doing this for us. This book shows what life is like inside the battle zone. It is a book of patriotism and honor that keeps our men in Iraq fighting to keep us safe. It opens the doors to tell us why we are in Iraq and allows us to give respect to those in Iraq fighting for us. After you read this book, maybe you too will be able to recognize those brave men that are sacrificing themselves for us with their boots on the ground.
Hated It!!.......2005-08-07
When I first picked up this book I was beyond excited to read it. However, from almost the first page I was disappointed. Mr. Zinsmeister did an aweful job writing this book. Instead of focusing almost exclusively on the soldiers he decided to spend most of the book either discussing himself or his political views. I might have been willing to overlook his obvious conservative bias if he had bothered to accurately portray the otherside when he decided to debate how his view was correct. This whole book wasn't worth the paper it was written on.
bad, bad, bad, the 82nd Airborne deserves better .......2005-03-02
Boots on the Ground is a terrible book about the war in Iraq. The book is very short (although in this case it is a blessing) and offers no real insight into the war in Iraq. I found the book to be poorly written and it fails to capture the essence of these wonderful troops going to war. The author spends a lot of time complaining about the conditions he is suffering through and not enough time capturing what the soldiers experience. The 82nd Airborne is an elite army unit but he reduces them into cartoon characters instead of letting us relate to them as people. His continual attacks on the left were also a distraction, save that for another book. This book was obviously rushed to be printed instead of focusing on the quality of the story. Bottom line there are much better books out about the war in Iraq. Save your money and get Devil Dogs, or the March Up. Get anything, just not this book.
Vets Beware, the title is deceptive........2005-01-11
This is not really a book for anyone who knows anything about the military, and wants to get a grunts eye view of the early phase of the Iraq war. This book was written just before, during and immediatly after the invasion, "Major Combat," phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom. That would be fine if the book was about military operations or the soldiers themselves. Unfortunately this book is 75% about the author,(editor of a small conservative magazine) his world outside Kuwait/Iraq, his (conservative) politics, and the hated(liberal) press. To make matters worse, his unrestrained "See I told you it would be a cakewalk, all you naysayers before the war are proven fools!" political views are embarrassingly outdated. Written at a time when U.S. forces had suffered 196 KIA, the author took the position, literally for the last fifty pages of the book, that the war was over as soon as he left Iraq. This book is only good for people studying modern American politics, not war or warriors. The Paratroopers of the 82nd deserve a better book. Save your time and your money.

Book Description
This book subverts and surprises. It explores mathematical topics, finding amazing similarities and looking at familiar objects in new ways. It shows mathematics as something mysterious, intriguing and pleasurably puzzling. You do not need to be a mathematician to enjoy this book. The style is relaxed. It emphasises insight and imagination rather than technique. The book also includes many problems and puzzles for you to try, with hints and solutions.

Cases in Middle and Secondary Science Education: The Promise and Dilemmas (2nd Edition)

Book Description
This startling early autobiography takes Dalí through his late 30s and "communicates the snobbishness, self-adoration, comedy, seriousness, fanaticism, in short the concept of life and the total picture of himself (Dalí) sets out to portray" — Books. Superbly illustrated with over 80 photographs and scores of Dalí drawings and sketches.
Customer Reviews:
Certainly Original.......2007-08-21
So original and bizarre, the first half of the book should be made into a movie.
A Struggle to get Through.......2007-07-31
the book had a little of everything. Salvador Dali can be an interesting writer, and some sections of the book demonstrate this. The early chapters of the book covering his childhood are difficult to trudge through between irrational events and memories and ones that seem plausible. It is not a very good autobiography for recording ones milestones, but I suppose it recorded things that appealed and became ingrained in Dali to become motifs in his art, such as crutches for instance. As the book progressed Dali's philosophy became a little more clear and the book a little more interesting, especially as he and his wife Gala visited America and the world was prepping for World War II. All in all, I would rather have read a straight forward Dali biography than his convoluted auto-biography. You have to be a very tolerant reader to put up episodes that are difficult to visualizse or understand and to keep asking yourself, "Is this true or is Dali dreaming it up?"
Fictitious? It Doesn't Matter... .......2006-05-21
I know Dali well enough to know that this book is largely embellishments and his imagination running wild. But it just doesn't matter because this book, like his art, is brilliant. The purpose of reading an autobiography is to learn about he author, and we do plenty of learning in this case. The parts about his childhood and his early love life are the best. The portions about his opportunistic wife are the dullest.
simply amazing!!! a true reading experience never to forget........2005-08-03
considering my obsession with dali, you readers may find that my comment will be somewhat biased...yes, this book is quite strange and exaggerated, but how and what would you expect dali ,this eccentric artist to write? when you read this book, you get the feel of dali...whether his narcissim or egotism, you do not have to take him too seriously...he loved to shock and contradict in his life time , and naturally that was his goal with this book...its quite amusing really! a book that in my opinion must be read by dali lovers or haters.
A mess.......2004-06-27
This is not Dali revealing honestly about himself, his work, his life: This is 400 pages of Dali promoting Dali, being Daliesc: which means shocking people. This book covers a time period from his birth to the outbreak of World War II, at which time he was mostly known for being a shocking surrealist, not necessarily as a great painter yet. The book is used more to promote himself to the public at that time in his style of the time (shocking, unexpected, deviant) rather than reveal the secrets of his work and style. Heavy heavy influence of Freud and psychoanalysis; the text becomes so introverted and self-analytical that it is almost unreadable much of the time. There is a 4 page discussion of a piece of mucus on a bathroom wall; one page about the painting The Persistence of Memory. Somewhere along the first or second chapter you learn something about how his style developed, in the rest of the book you learn that he has a huge ego and a nasty cruel streak, to the point where you really start to dislike him as a human. I have been to the Dali museum in Tampa, seen his works in other museums: He is a genius of a painter. This book is a waste of time unless you are truly truly die-hard. The reviewer who thought it was a comedy and laughed at every page has serious issues.

the best by far.......2004-11-06
Page Simith's history is unparalleled anywhere. This history should be required reading in schools everywhere, in place of the boring, lifeless textbooks we were forced to read as children. If minor and pointless minutiae can be refuted, the big picture cannot. This is not "revisionist" history, it is told primarily through contemporary diaries and newspaper accounts, and assembled into a riveting narrative by a master historian. The heroes and villains of this frenzied, uncompromising, brutal and ultimately disastrous period are allowed to emerge on their own, not as fantasies of a partisan agenda. This great country can learn much from the retelling of this painful episode in our history, on our collective journey to become the great people we think we are.
A book every American should read.......2001-04-15
This is the finest work of history I have read, thoroughly researched and brilliant. It cuts directly to the meaning of the United States and brightly illuminates today's problems and their causes without making those points directly. Mr. Page is thoughtful, balanced and even-handed throughout. Though the book is long, it is a tense and exciting read. He knows how to tell a story, and there is none more compelling than the story of our nation in its peril. This series is so well-respected that it is surprising to see negative reviews on this site. Read this book for yourself, and you'll feel its excellence on every page.
A genuine perspective.......2000-10-30
I find Mr. Barth's perspective true and real, something which most modern writer's lack. His writing is honest and to the point, leaving out nothing.
Trial by Fire.......2000-07-09
I second Mr. Sanchez, although with somewhat less disgust. I am astounded by Mr. Smith's lack of understanding of the military aspects of his subject. For example, he continuously refers to the senior Federal general as the "Chief of Staff", a position not introduced into the US Army until the 20th Century. Indeed, one of the great shortcomings of the Union military establishment was the lack of a Chief of Staff with the unifying powers of that position over the quasi-independent Departments and their feudal baron-like Chiefs.
Mr. Sanchez has noted the absence of references, which I can only ascribe to Mr. Smith's lack of serious scholarly intent. He clearly takes the view that this work is, and ought to be, a vehicle for his own revisionist political agenda. That agenda is made abundently clear by his heavy handed approach in describing the decadent "Gone with the Wind" Southern life-style which, although few enjoyed, all were culpable.
"Lincoln", by Gore Vidal is better history as a work of fiction than "Trail by Fire".
The end of history.......2000-06-21
Simply put, this book is not worth reading. The author writes in EXTREMELY vague generalizations, thereby jumping to many untrue conclusions about numerous things. And, when he is done writing about his view of "Southern Culture", he goes on to show a very poor understanding of the actual war. His commentaries on the generals alone was enough to make me stick out my tongue and put the book down in disgust. Furthermore, he cites ABSOLUTELY NO sources, so we, the readers have no way of knowing if he made everything up! I consider myself quite a Civil War Buff/Reader, and this is by FAR the WORST book on the Civil War I have ever had the displeasure to read!

Book Description
This revised edition is a comprehensive account of the technological and political possibilities and dangers presented by weapons of mass destruction in the wake of September 11th, 2001. The technical and organizational sophistication of the attacks on September 11th heralds a new era in the age-old war against terrorism. After these attacks, attention became focused on the activities and capacities of Islamic extremist groups, such as Osama bin Laden's al-Qa'eda organization, but the reality is that terrorist threats could come from almost any quarter.
