After the attacks on 11 September 2001, Apache units made significant contributions to the Coalition campaign against Taliban and al-Qaeda forces in Afghanistan. Functioning as the 'killer' part of US Army Hunter-killer teams, Apaches sought out and brought overwhelming firepower to bear on Taliban and al-Qaeda forces, as well as providing direct support to Coalition troops on the ground. Apaches spearheaded the advance of the 3rd Infantry and the 101st airborne divisions into Iraq, engaging in some of the heaviest fighting along the western axis of advance. Weather and enemy fire took a heavy toll on Apaches operating in Western Iraq, but the resilience and flexibility of the Apache was central to the success of this campaign.

Good Read.......2006-09-26
A friend of mine told me about this book when he mentioned my unit (22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit) and our time in Afghanistan was mentioned. Solid, easy-to-follow story about the evolution and employment of the Apache.
I really liked the artwork, and hoping they'll follow with other titles on the Blackhawk and Chinook.
Interesting but Incomplete.......2005-12-27
As an AH-64 pilot who has participated of OIF I was to say the least intrigued when I first heard of this title.
The book includes information that will be of interest to those who enjoy tales of military aviation and includes photos and drawings of unit marking that are otherwise unavailable. The marking are notably incomplete, showing only one company within a battalion and leaving the others out.
It's interesting to note that several members of my unit who are quoted in the book, profess to have never met the author...and he (the author) fails to footnote or otherwise indicate how he came up with these statements.
It's a good start, but it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of a great subject that begs to be covered fully.

A good book and better film.......2005-05-07
This is one of Mr. Romers better efforts both as a book and as a video. He takes you places where most folks will never be able to go to. He then takes what you think is nothing and shows you how it is really connected physically to the Hellenistic Era. He has opened my eyes to an era that I had not really thought important but I now see the errors of my ways. His choices of music, locations and his train of thought used in the film are outstanding. I just hope that it comes out in DVD soon. All together a mighty effort that pays off handsomely, Mega Kudos to all hands involved!

Jaguars Don't Live in Packs.......2007-07-25
If you believe, as the author of this book does, that jaguars live in packs, you are not informed enough to go on a jungle excursion.
Yossi Ghinsberg considered himself a "backpacker" (not a tourist) and a "Man of Action." He went in search of the "Jungle Experience" and found it. Every decision he made was bad; every choice he made was wrong. The first bad decision he made was to go into the jungle ill equiped with few survivor skills, relying on his "guide" to provide what he would need. The second mistake he made was by far the worst- he talked two friends into accompaning him on his fateful jouney.
I just finished reading a book about true heroism in the face of death entitled "Miracle in the Andes" about a group of young men who find themselves lost in one of the most inhospitable places on earth. They made intelligent decisions and correct choices and managed to survive. For them, Yossi's harrowing time in the Jungle would be like a walk in the park.

Survival and Selfishness.......2007-02-19
Jungle has Yossi, an Israeli, hooking up with two companions and a guide to experience the jungles of South America. The tale of their survival, particularly Yossi's survival when he becomes lost, is captivating and difficult to put down. The backdrop of human nature adds an emotional element to the story.
It was survival of the fittest, and in this situation, the weakest link became despised. The disappointing factor is that at the time when Kevin and Yossi began to despise Marcus, the journey's difficulty seemed minor.
After the emotional abuse, I found it difficult to care for the author's plight. One can only imagine the suffering and confusion that Marcus felt at the betrayal of his friends during a painful and difficult journey. It must have been painful for Yossi to tell his story honestly.
The book would have benefited from photos, even if they were not photos of the actual journey but of the return trip or group shots before the journey.
A riveting account of being lost in a world few will ever experience.......2007-02-18

Impossible to put down........2007-01-07
Author Yossi Ghinsberg along with Marcus and Kevin agree to accompany Karl to Indian villages in the South American rainforest thinking it will be the backpacking adventure of a lifetime: what they don't realize is Yossi will find himself alone in a struggle to survive in the heart of the Amazon. JUNGLE is his autobiography of a survival challenge few others will face: it provides first-person high drama from its first page telling of his meeting with Marcus and others to his struggle to traverse the Amazon alone, without knowledge of wilderness survival methods. The book is simply brilliant. For everyone who is interested in israely tanks this book is a must.
Very sharp and clear photographs show most of the details of subject tank. Although the IDF is very sensitive about security issues the book shows many details and provides a good overview on the various marks of the Merkava tank.

From a scale modeler's viewpoint, the book is a goldmine of information and inspiration. The photos are large, in color, and extremely vivid and clear, with new details popping out at you each time you look at them. Especially useful are the many views of the complex turret bustle rack with the "ball and chain" armor, and the often neglected turret top. The only area not covered at all is the bottom of the hull. The text is well-written and supports the photos very well.
Most of the 24 pages are dedicated to the Mk2 and Mk2B versions, with only a few covering the Mk3.
Overall, a wonderful publication which I would recommend highly to modelers and armor enthusiasts alike.

Absolutely mesmerizing.......2007-09-08
Many of us get most of our "news" from the radio, the Internet, and the Pundit shoutfests on Cable. The inevitable connect-the-dots perception of things is further diminished by Talk Show hosts on interminable partison rants.
With this book, we can discover many facts about this minor or major cabal or conspiracy and its' progenitors. The Starr-Goldberg-Coulter contingent is scrutinized at length, for example, and intentions aside, revealed to have spent a lot of air-time on issues really not warranting such time and money expenditures. Just as Ken Starr himself expressed: there's just not enough meat to the bone for the Grade-A inspectors. Ultimately, the Lucienne Goldberg transcript publishing dream proved a nightmare for the whole country.
Conason and Lyons have given those of us who have less and less time to read books cover to cover a reason to do so...and to never again be swayed by any info-tainment puppeteers.

I wrote this review years ago. Nothing has come out since to make me change a word of it.
Everybody laughed when Hillary Clinton complained that she and her husband Bill were targets of a "vast right-wing conspiracy" (VRWC). We know better now, thanks to Joe Conason and Gene Lyons, whose "The Hunting of the President" provides plenty of evidence for a real, criminal conspiracy.
Even they dither about whether it was vast, but that it was powerful no one can doubt. The VRWC "perverted the law and debased the media," they write.
Its small beginnings were not right-wing but personal. A couple of good ol' boys in Arkansas began slandering Bill Clinton as revenge and to make a few fast bucks. They were adopted by a devil's band of racists, Christian bigots, forgers, shysters, perjurers, shakedown artists, embezzlers, sob sisters, spies, trollops, busted speculators, libel publishers, spoiled rich boys, corrupt pols, sneaks, prudes, gullible reporters, publicity hounds, termagants, lunatics, unethical editors, forsworn judges, used-up groupies and pornographers, all eventually focused on the person of Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr, a common scold.
In the whole sorry story, on both sides, only two people came out with credit.
The only decent person involved was Arkansas state trooper Ronnie Anderson, who "had refused to answer the independent counsel's questions about Clinton's alleged extramarital liaisons. 'I said,' "If he's done something illegal, I will tell you. But I'm not going to answer a question about women that he knew because I just don't feel like it's anybody's business.""'
To their credit, the overwhelming majority of the American public was as decent as Anderson, or perhaps nervous that a powerful cabal of sex perverts backed by a free-spending rightwing kook (Richard Mellon Scaife) might decide to examine their bedroom habits, too.
The only hero was Susan McDougal, who preferred prison to selling out to Starr.
While "Hunting" is not the last word on the subject -- for one thing, it stops short of the impeachment -- it is the best place to start.
The outlines of this "J'accuse" statement were revealed earlier by Conason, Lyons and Murray Waas in the Internet magazine Salon ([...]), to general lack of interest.

If you love America, read this book........2006-11-21
If you love this country and have an iota of critical thinking skills, you must read this book. The reporting, analysis, and documentation are first rate, and solid. This is not a book for Democrats or liberals, but all Americans. Regardless of your political orientation, you should be disturbed by what you read here. Of course, my review assumes you believe that Enlightenment ideals were the foundation of this country, and that institutions are only as good as the integrity and intellectual honesty of the people that compose them.
The Facts are on the Table.......2005-07-12
This book lays out the attacks on the Clinton in full detail. While you could probably guess the things done by Falwell, Starr and the unrepentant segregationists in Arkansas; it was illuminating to see the machinations of Tripp, Isikoff and others I never could have named before this book.
The many 4-5 star reviews tell a lot but the one star reviews are also illuminating. None of those come from people who appear to have read the book. In a just world, they would have to and, if they still were unmoved, they would have to fact check every detail.
More Ignorant one-star reviewers.......2005-06-15
I've read the book - it's fact-filled and covers virtually every aspect of the Whitewater (in particular) period. And now we have here the typical string of ranters who give no evidence of having opened, let alone read, the book. But I'll bet they all own a copy of "The Clinton Chronicles" - probably purchased through Jerry Falwell. By the way, this book fleshes out the same period covered by David Brock in "Blinded By The Right" -which is a quicker read but has the advantage of being written by someone who was actually part and parcel of the right-wing hit squads. Taken together, these two books not only portray all the deceit, rush to judgment, sloppy journalism from so-called "liberal newspapers", but give lots of evidence that there was a right-wing conspiracy long before Monica. Sorry, one-star reviewers: the Arkansas Project was just a bunch of wackos, liars and self-promoters.
And Coneson and Lyons do not "whitewash" Bill Clinton. But they do insist on facts, have done their research, and tell it the way it was, not the way a bunch of witless people like most of the one-star reviewers here seem to want it to be.
And is this just "old stuff"? Well, the Ed Klein hit book on Hilary that has just come out perfectly fits the profile of what the right-wingers were doing with their "journalism" in the early 90s. As for the person who recommends the Laura Ingraham book on Hilary, by all means read it, then read the
Brock book and this one to get the real story.
