Book Description
Combine the Best of Science and the Best of Nature to Combat Cancer
Few events in life are more traumatic than being diagnosed with cancer. But there's good news! Modern medical science has made tremendous strides in developing effective treatments for many cancers. In addition, remarkable studies now indicate that alternative therapies can complement and even enhance traditional cancer treatments. In this empowering book, Dr. Dan Labriola, a nationally renowned cancer-therapy expert, presents a revolutionary program for combining conventional oncology and natural medicine to create formidable cancer treatments that are second to none. Inside, you'll discover how to:
·Create a treatment strategy tailored to your individual needs
·Use drug-nutrient combinations that will work best for you
·Minimize the side effects resulting from conventional treatments
·Select the best health-care provider for you by asking the right questions
·Develop the healing power of the body-mind connection
·And more
And you don't have to choose between conventional or natural medicine. You can get the best of both worlds. This book shows you how.
"Ultimately, the best health care is provided by a collaboration of conventional and natural medicine. Nowhere is this more critical than for those with cancer. This unique, insightful, and extremely valuable resource is absolutely necessary for patients and oncologists who are intent on optimizing care."—
Joseph E. Pizzorno, N.D., founding president of Bastyr University, coauthor of the bestselling Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine and author of Total Wellness
"Dan Labriola, one of the first naturopathic physicians to be published in a mainstream medical journal, has done a great service to individuals with cancer. His step-by-step advice will show you the right way to combine standard and alternative therapies for the best possible outcome."—
Steven Bratman, M.D., medical director, TheNaturalPharmacist.com (TNP.com)
"Dr. Labriola is one of the few physicians in the U.S. who has successfully bridged the conventional and alternative cancer communities. His experience with complementary, natural medicine is vital to cancer patients."—
Jonathan Collin, M.D., publisher and editor-in-chief, Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients

Complementary Cancer Therapies.......2007-02-23
I did not receive this book. I previously ordered one sent to a Seabrook, TX address and it arrived there. However, the second one to be sent to 2008 Estates Dr, Waco, TX 76712 did not arrive as of 2-21-07.
Thanks.

Terrible Book.......2006-07-12
I thought this was a terrible book. There are much better ones available on this important subject.
Informative but not particularly helpful.......2005-10-26
Lots of information about managing life threatening diseases, and information about chemo agents, and about alternative medicines etc. Lots of repetitive warnings about not using any alternative medicines while in chemo. But nothing I found helpful in doing what the book claims -- combining traditional and alternative approaches. I can understand his concern about FDA and ethical issues re giving medical device, but this was a huge disappointment.
Best of science? What science?.......2002-07-07
As an M.D. with over 20 years`experience working with cancer patients, combining complementary, medical and palliative approaches, I ordered this book with great expectations, which were strengthened by the catchphrase "combine the best of science and the best of nature to combat cancer".
Best of science? What science? This book is loaded with strong opinions and assertations, presented as truth, often contradicting findings from recent research on complementary therapies - BUT NOT A SINGLE REFERENCE OR SOURCE QUOTATION in a book of 340 pages claiming to be scientific and authoritative. Hoping to find his sources, I seek his web page. More of hyperbole about the author and the selling of his products, but not a single reference to research - just the repeated claims about how scientific his "breakthrough" work is. There is no feedback column, just loads of opportunity to buy his goods and services. So here is my feedback. I believe that this is precisely the approach that we must avoid if the field of integrated medicine, combining "the best of both worlds" is to advance.
An Oncologist's Perspective.......2000-05-18
Thanks to Dr. Labriola for making this difficult subject understandable to cancer patients and their families. I am an oncologist who sees many patients trying to research complementary therapies, prevent complications and maximize quality of life. His readable and well organized book gives the reader tools to make wise decisions, free from divisive rhetoric. He is especially expert at interactions between traditional and alternative therapies. New patients will appreciate his helpful criteria for choosing the right doctors, traditional or alternative. The glossaries are fantastic. For those who are exploring the intersection of conventional cancer medicine and the array of complementary choices, this book is a great starting point. I highly recommend it.

Must have Organizational History of the WWII USMC.......2004-10-28
Gordon Rottman, a prolific writer and historian who has recent some of the best Osprey titles, succeeds brilliantly with this 3 volume organizational history of the USMC in WWII. In a clear concise manner, Rottman, manages to give a detailed overview of the development of the USMC order of battle during the war. This book, as well as the other two volumes, is a must have for those interested in the Marine Corps WWII order of Battle.

Book Description
The 1640s were one of the most exciting and bloody decades in British and Irish history. This book interweaves the narrative threads in each theater of conflict to provide an "holistic" account and analysis of the wars in and between England, Scotland, and Ireland from the Covenanter Rebellion to the execution of Charles I. Using a wide range of original and secondary sources, the author offers a challenging new interpretation of political structure and dynamics in the warring Stuart kingdoms.

Book Description
This spiritual portrait of Father Mychal Judge is a remarkable testimony to the hope and courage that he brought to thousands of people, not only as the New York City fire chaplain during the attack on the World Trade Center, where along with so many firefighters his life was brought to a tragic end, but also to the wide-ranging people to whom he ministered.
Featuring exclusive interviews with some of his closest friends and associates, the book explores the inner life of New York's popular and charismatic Franciscan who has become an overnight American hero.
Customer Reviews:
A wonderful Priest.......2007-10-13
In an age that there is great suspect, and hostility towards priests, this book restores one faith in the many saints in our midst, who never gain newspaper headlines. I read the book before watching the CD about Father Judge, and it is a wondeful, easy read.
I had it on my wish list for a long time, as I had heard it would be published soon. When I finished the book, and CD, I sent them both on to a friend, who will pass it on to someone else.
Father Judge was a true hero, loved his ministry, struggled as a human and shined as a light. It is painful still to re-visit 9/11, but this is the conclusion of a live well led and lived. Well written, introducing us into his life and his friends.
A lovely tribute to a true hero.......2004-08-06
As a disheartened Catholic living in NJ with an excellent view of the NY skyline, I watched in horror as the World Trade Center towers came crashing down on 9/11/01. My faith, which I had already been questioning, was tested even further. As the days passed, we all began to hear the tragic and heroic stories to emerge from Ground Zero. One of the first was that of Fr. Mychal Judge. I was moved by his death and attended a mass in his honor at St. Joseph's in East Rutherford, NJ. It was an overflow crowd and we had to listen to the service from the street. It was very moving and the words of those who knew & loved Fr. Mychal touched me. After that I realized that I should not be touched by his death, but I should learn about his life. This was an amazing gift that God gave to me. I began reading about him, anything I could get my hands on. After a time of such turmoil in our country, and to me in my own backyard, it was as if the grace of this incredible man was walking me through my own grief and helping restore my own faith in God, the Church and our world.
I was very anxious to read this book, and I must say, I was not disappointed. I think it did a good job of showing us who Mychael Judge was, both as a Franciscan Priest and as a very human man. It showed his frailties, his struggles and the heroic and inspirational way in which he handled these matters. It showed a man of true love and acceptance, one who encouraged a Church of inclusion, not exclusion. One who strived to make the Church a better place, who did not allow the faults of the Church to taint his love for God or Jesus Christ. Through stories told by friends, fellow Franciscans and those who knew him well, you get a better picture of the man Mychal was. And, after his death, the man that he was led me back to the Church and allowed me to have a place for God in my heart again. I like to think that this is something that would have made Fr. Mychal very happy. So that is my own personal tribute to him.
The beginning of the book details the tragic day of 9/11/01. The author did an excellent job of making that terrible day seem real and gives us some understanding of what those on the scene were experiencing. Throughout the story, I also felt that I was there when Mychal was offering his own blanket to a homeless man, or when he was massaging the feet of AIDS patients when no one would dare touch them. It gave an excellent portrait of what he learned, what he did and how he became the true Hero he was to so many.
I strongly recommend reading this book. You will learn about a wonderful man and it will restore your own faith in God and the people in His world.
Mike Judge deserved a better book.......2003-04-29
I genuinely wanted to like this book, and was sorely disappointed. ... A case in point: Fr. Mychal spent a number of years at St. Joseph's parish in East Rutherford, NJ. The author's treatment of this critical, mid- career period in Judge's life (and the context in which this reviewer first came to know Mike Judge) is given short shrift. Ford relies entirely on an article in the Bergen (NJ) Record from the mid 70's and on some annecdotes from Fr. Michael Duffy ofm in his funeral homily for Judge. There is no indication that Ford spoke with any of the other Friars who shared ministry with Judge, or with any parishoners. Rather, Ford seems to be in a great rush to tell stories of Mike Judge, recovering alcoholic and (celibate)... man.
Much of the book is riddled with cliches and trite bromides. The end result is a book, which while informative at times, fails to capture and communicate the story of a flawed, yet truly holy man. Mike Judge deserves a better crafted biography.
Father Mychal Judge, An Authentic American Hero.......2003-02-05
I met Father Judge once and it was a very moving experience. Everything said about him in Ford's book as far as I'm concerned it just the way he was. He made a fantastic figure in his flowing robe but he was never pretentious. He loved people and his every action showed it. He is a man that will not be easily forgotten and the book will help towards that end.
Authentic is the right word........2003-01-28
Some people might be put-off because this book deals honestly with a priest who struggled with his sexuality and with church teachings AND lived a life in service to God and neighbor. However, this book looks honestly and authentically at the life of Fr. Mychal Judge. Clearly the love of God shone through this man, and clearly the teachings of the Catholic hierarchy are not always the teachings of the Church, the People of God. I thought perhaps this book might be a little hokey (the subtitle makes Fr. Judge sound like a Marvel Comic superhero), but the book was truly authentic (albeit a tiny bit hokey at some very few points). Michael Ford's book will give you some honest insight into the complex yet simple life of Fr. Mychal Judge. I found it inspiring.

Book Description
Written by an all-star team of military history writers, this riveting collection of prose examines great raids and raiders - both successful and non-successful -over the course of the past four centuries, illuminating examples of reckless bravery, horrific combat, and dynamic leadership-all cases where a courageous few chose to attack enemy territory, accepting the risk of their own annihilation.
Customer Reviews:
Great collection of historical military raids.......2005-11-24
Very good book. Good mix of well-known and little known events in history. Great collection!
A Tribute to Those Who Go In Harm's Way.......2001-12-20
This is a collection of about 20 or so essay-format descriptions by different authors of great raids, including Drake's Cadiz expedition, John Paul Jones' hijinks off the British coast, the U-Boat raid into Scapa Flow, the botched invasions of Dieppe (1942) and Tehran (1980) and Israeli commando attacks on Egypt in the early 1970s. Inevitably, different authors, while adding immense color and depth to the stories, do tend to break the continuity, so this is a book best read in 30 page slabs. The descriptions of Wingate's first Chindit raid in Burma and Stephen Tanner's revealing account of the German commando raids and other intrigues which kept Hungary in the Axis camp are the standouts. Overall, an excellent compilation of military history and an excellent piece of collective writing.
Consistently interesting........1997-05-14
(The numerical rating above is a default setting
within Amazon's format. This reviewer does not
employ numerical ratings.)
Daring actions by small units have always excited
the imagination, not least because they affirm
that individual initiative and courage count for something
in the impersonal forces of war.
Here is a fine collection of accounts of some of
those raids, from Elizabethan times to the present,
beautifully written and (generally) well researched.
Stephen Tanner's essays on Custer and Skorzeny
particularly stand out as lively, reliable history
writing. Less praiseworthy are the efforts
of the conspiracy theorist who always seems to find
American perfidy in every Allied reverse. With photos,
bibliography, and an excellent index.

Book Description
Tom A. Coburn, a congressional maverick who kept his promise to serve three terms and then leave Washington, offers a candid look at the inner workings of Congress-why the system changes politicians instead of vice versa. Breach of Trust shows readers, through shocking behind-the-scenes stories, why Washington resists the reform our country desperately needs and how they can make wise, informed decisions about current and future political issues and candidates. This honest and critical look at "business as usual" in Congress reveals how and why elected representatives are quickly seduced into becoming career politicians who won't push for change. Along the way, Coburn offers readers realistic ideas for how to make a difference.
Customer Reviews:
Self righteous pablum.......2007-09-23
This book, based on the reviews here, is self-righteous pablum with little factual substance. A better, book, one that I've actually read, is Chris Edwards - Downsizing the Federal Government (Cato).
At Last Someone Brave Enough to Expose Congress.......2007-05-18
This is one of the most rewarding and enlightening books I ever read. It was a real sleeper as far as publicity goes, but everyone should read this book. Liberals who just scrunge up their faces when they hear Senator Coburns name, should think again and read this book. Senator Coburn is a very conservative republican, but he does not rail against liberals or democrats in this book. He must have rightly figured to do so would tag the book as a typical partisan effort. Instead he exposes what the Republican party establishment does and goes after Republican leaders. He only mentions Democrats when he has to in relaying information about any particular congressional bill. He surely didn't win any friends in congress when he exposed the inner workings of that body. Politicians quickly (if they didn't sart out that way) transform into playing the power game. Everything becomes about power and not what is best for the people. The bribes, strong arm tactics, threats, play along to get along, we'll do the right thing later, gotta secure power now kind of shenanigans. You definately do not have to agree with Tom Coburn politically to appreciate this book. It's great to get a birds eye view on why our government does not work. I can see what congress is doing and not doing now and understand why thanks to having read this book. The establishment doesn't want you to read this book, but do yourself a favor and read Breach of Trust. We need to shake things up in Washington and elect new people. In fact Mr. Coburn talks about the 20-25 in congress who stick to their principles and truley work to do the right thing. It's good to know who they are. Let's get a majority like them. To get a feel as to how to do that it helps to read this book. This is eye opening stuff. Thank you, Senator Coburn.
This is the real thing. Why doesn't Congress work and how to fix it!!!.......2006-12-05
Wow, and Wow again!!!! This book makes a lot of sense, no matter what your party or political viewpoint.
As a business owner who, like most, has a low opinion of Congress, this is a must read. Voters' approval ratings of Congress are widely reported to be in the low twenty percentile, are now are the lowest in history, and are still dropping. Congress is clearly broken. This unique book explains why it's broken, with many revolting but compelling examples.
And it also shows us a way to fix today's out of control, unaccountable government. It suggests practical methods for fixing Congress before matters get even worse. The author deserves a medal for responsible public service, and this book deserves to be read and understood.
John D. Trudel
Extraordinary Case for a New Independent Party.......2006-01-11
This is an extraordinary book, an easy to read book, which is organized to provide 10 truths, 3 myths, 4 dangers, and 5 actions that citizens can take to restore the integrity of the Congress (both Senate and House).
The author's conclusions, based on his experience as a three-term Congressman, are consistent with both the recent polls that show that Americans damn both the Democrats and the Republicans as corrupt and ineffective at representing We the People, and with books such as Peter Peterson's "Running On Empty: How The Democratic and Republican Parties Are Bankrupting Our Future and What Americans Can Do About It."
As a moderate Republican, I found this book representative precisely of the vision I signed up to in the 1970's--smaller government, less waste, more discretion to the states.
Two quotes really stand out:
xix: "Although the events o September 11, 2001 have focused the public attention on the threat of international terrorism, the greatest threat to the continuity of our form of government is our government itself."
79: "What makes this [Party Line] mentality dangerous is that when the team is held together by careerism and mindless partisanship, individual members are punished for thinking for themselves [or their Districts]. When members can't think for themselves their constituents are deprived of honest representation."
The book itemizes the positive aspects of the "Contract with America" that the Republican class of 1994 hoped to achieve, and blasts Newt Gingrich for failing to honor the contract and failing as a leader.
Robert Novak is to be complemented for his superb foreword and his support of this book.
All of my reading suggests that America is ready to demand that the bulk of their representatives follow the example of the Member from Vermont, and declare Independence from the two corrupt incumbent parties. America appears to be ready for a new political party that will restore government of, by, and for the people. This book is a good starting point, and makes the case for discarding both parties as being so corrupt and unrepresentative as to be beyond salvation. We are on our own.
A Must read about Congress. The Scum!.......2005-08-11
Short and sweet. Will confirm your worst fears. Leo Hamel

Tiger: The Ultimate Guide
ASIN: 0521648351 |
Book Description
Beauty, grace and power make the tiger one of the world's most loved animals, yet it is precisely these qualities that have contributed to the tiger's peril. Poaching, loss of habitat and prey, and conflicts between people and wild tigers have caused a catastrophic decline in the worldwide tiger population. If wild tigers are to survive through the next century, we must act now. Riding the Tiger is a comprehensive, scientific, and eminently readable account of the problems and possible solutions of securing a future for wild tigers. Lavishly illustrated in full color, the book is written by leading conservationists working throughout Asia. It looks at tiger ecology and biology, examining the tiger in both its natural setting and in our own consciousness. In exploring our efforts at conservation, the book addresses topology and population dynamics. Later sections discuss prey depletion and region-specific studies. Riding the Tiger is a vital information resource for tiger conservationists in the field, as well as necessary reading for serious students of carnivore conservation and conservation biologists in general. For the general reader, it is an accessible and elucidating overview of tiger conservation. John Seidensticker is Curator of Mammals at the National Zoological Park, Smithsonian Institution. With extensive experience in Bangladesh, Nepal, India, China, Russia, Thailand and Indonesia, he has worked on the conservation biology of wild carnivores for more than 25 years, and is currently Chairman of the Save the Tiger Fund of the US National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and Mobil International. Sarah Christie is Conservation Programmes Co-ordinator at the London Zoo. Having overseen the expansion of the Zoological Society of London's tiger conservation programme, she is active in the implementation, management and collaboration of tiger conservation programmes around the world. Peter Jackson is Chairman of the Cat Specialist Group at the World Conservation Union (IUCN). A freelance writer and photographer, Jackson was previously the Chief Correspondent on the Indian subcontinent for Reuters News Agency, and has contributed to Smithsonian Magazine, International Wildlife, and BBC Wildlife. He has traveled widely in Asia, Africa, and the Americas and has published extensively on tiger conservation.
Customer Reviews:
Tiger biology and conservation.......2001-12-13
If you want to explore the present state of knowledge about tigers in the wild and their real prospects for survival, this is the best publication available. It's attractively illustrated with photos of wild tigers, current range maps, and useful treatments of their history, habitat, populations, prey relations, conflicts with people, and conservation status in various parts of their range. The book's chapters are well organized and written by well informed scientists.
I couldn't put the book down and have only been surprised that it has received so little publicity beyond the professional ranks of conservation biologists. It's useful also for those considering a visit to areas where tigers still occur.
Riding the Tiger - aug 2001.......2001-08-15
An excellent and thorough composition of research of the tiger and its conservation. A must have for ecologists or wildlife biologists interested in studying or working with the big cats. Very informative, written with a lot of data, statistics, maps and references - most informative for those with a scientific mind. Highly recommended.
One of the best conservation books out there.......2000-12-03
Riding the Tiger is a fine conservation book. It gets into the technical part of conservation which few see. If you are interested in becoming a zoologist this book is a must.
Riding the Tiger.......2000-04-12
This book is excellent for biological conservationists. It is written in the language of science and may be slightly difficult for the non-scientist to comprehend. Otherwise, it was a great book, and I would recommend it for everyone.
