Don't miss this informative book on childhood nutrition. I feel much more confident in my food selections, and my kids are happy at mealtime!
A Realistic and Practical Guide to Feeding Kids Right.......2000-05-02
I'm giving this wonderful book as a gift to all my friends who are starting families. It is packed with practical information about how we parents can manage to get the best, most nutritious foods into our kids.
It covers all the developmental stages - from infancy, into the "finicky eater" years, and through the teens, when high-fat, low-nutrient fast foods seem to hold the most allure.
Dr. Goldberg gives a wealth of easy-to-understand information on kids' basic nutritional needs and also debunks long-held assumptions about the real value of some popular dietary stand-bys (like peanut butter). I really appreciate all the practical advice he gives here. He not only tells parents what's best, he explains why. So, rather than simply preaching breastfeeding to new mothers, he gives sound, compelling reasons why infants benefit most from mother's milk.
As a pediatrician and parent, Dr. Goldberg seems to understand the practical problems we all face in actually getting our kids to eat what's good for them. The temptations of high-fat high-carb fast foods are all around us. Taking all that into consideration, he provides lots of easy, delicious recipes that we can make for kid's meals, school lunch boxes, and snacks. You can tell he appreciates good food himself - there are no dry, gritty or bland "health foods" on the menu. He names brands here, too - some products to avoid and some that can enhance a healthy, delicious diet kids (and parents)will actually want to eat.
Thumbs up on this one for its wise and parent-friendly advice!

For academic study only.

Excellent Reading As Always.......2005-07-03
I find this, as with all of Dr. HaHa Lung's books, very entertaining, enjoyable and satisfying. Alot of useful info with the right amount of history an "why come" in it. All I can say to any potential readers is this, read the history, don't skip it. It helps with the understanding of the rest of the book and it reads like a good story. Oh, and Dr HaHa Lung's Assassin and Theater of Hell are also really good. He kicks a$$.
good technical manual, a little off though.......1998-11-21
This book is one of the few books I've been able to find regarding India's martial arts heritage. The illustrations and descriptions of grappling & chocking techniques are very clear and easy to follow which makes this pretty good reference for martial artists of any style. Also it includes a fascinating history of the "Thuggee" sect of Kali worshippers. However, it's a bit off in its information on Hindu belief.

A heartwarming story of a man's pet and how they bond........1999-11-17
I thought the book, "A Seal Called Andre," was a great family story. It is a story that I would suggest my future children and grandchildren read. It showed me how man and animal can form such a strong bond. It showed me the meaning of love between two friends and how someone can love an animal like a human being. It also shows how strong two friends have to work together to keep such a special friendship, and the obstacles they sometimes have to overcome.
Book Description
Research scientists camped at the desolate McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica studying the local lakes and streams are one day surprised to find a young Weddell seal in their midst. Tired and hungry, and perhaps lured by the smell of the group’s cheeseburger dinner, the young male is a long way from his natural habitat on the sea ice of McMurdo Sound. Bound by the Antarctic Conservation Act, the scientists know they cannot provide it with sustenance, but instead contact seal scientists who, after some thought, decide they can provide assistance so the seal can return to the sea ice. The seal gets the ride of its life back to its natural habitat, and the scientists name one of their newly found streams to commemorate their unlikely campmate. This is published in cooperation with the Long-Term Ecological Research Network, which is funded by the National Science Foundation.
Customer Reviews:
charming, informative Antarctic adventure story.......2007-09-09
This book is a great introduction for 8-12 year-olds to environmental science in one of the coolest spots on Earth - Antarctica's Dry Valleys. Great artwork from real kids and the illustrations are beautiful. Clear information, and a story about compassion and cooperation. I recommend it for third through fifth grade classroom teachers, middle school science teachers, families and kids who love animals.
Kids Love It.......2006-12-11
This book is great for kids. It is an interesting book that combines elementary school level science and the adventure of a seal lost in Antarctica. One of the great features is the kids art on the side of each page that come from all over the world. The kids really liked looking at the differences between the artwork from England, New Zealand, and the US on the same topic. Also, it is nice that there are some links online where the kids can watch live footage of the seal. It is a really great way to get kids interested in learning about science. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a christmas present for young kids. I have already bought five copies.

Customer Reviews:
True Love: Well Worth the Wait (and the Work).......2007-10-04
Cheryl's book couldn't have been timelier in my life. I read Commitment Chronicles over two flights from my home in Asheville, NC to Amherst, MA to visit a remarkable man who is not only my true love soul mate, but is also my adoring husband, devoted life partner and blissful lover. During these two long visits we engaged in a series of intensely inspiring, daringly open conversations which led up to the sharing of sacred vows on the Amherst City Hall common on July 23, 2007. Being courted by Chris Kilham is quite an experience, let me tell you. During the wild wave body surf of the romance and throughout the subsequent transition of what we have fondly dubbed THE MERGER, Cheryl's witty words of wisdom settled in my psyche as holistic health and sustainability marriage mantra. My husband is an extraordinary man with a life force and career that is powerful and enticing. I am a strong and creative and self aware woman with a true calling and discplined dedication to my work. Even so, I have to be very careful, I mean proactively so, or I feel my own vision/mission being sort of... sucked in... by my husband's charisma. Cheryl's book reminds me that it is my responsibility to hold true to my own path of heart. Ultimately I must thrive within the union not only for myself but for the longevity of the union as well. By doing so, what I am finding is that I nurture this divine almost so divine it feels decadent combination of Real and Surreal Love with Chris. What could be better!?
Never Too Late!.......2007-01-17
Wow! If I'd only read this book sooner. Dr.Cheryl lets you know that even if you've made nothing but mistakes in your relationship, there is still hope. Her book guides you through restoring and rebuilding the love and trust you once had. Thanks for the encouragement!
have fun fine-tuning your commitment.......2006-05-02
Cheryl McClary's humorous and optimistic perspective on commitment has produced a treasure. This book is both lighthearted and serious, and supplies proactive, introspective journaling and action guidance for women who want their commitments to add value, joy and fun to their every day.
Grateful for "The Steps".......2006-03-30
Every young woman should buy this book for herself and then buy more copies as precious gifts to her Mom, girlfriends, and sisters. Cheryl, you will lower the divorce rate with your book. But,even more importantly, you give us the steps needed for ALL women to cherish and love themselves. You have given me the most precious gift of a lifetime and I think you with all my heart. I love you. Sandy Conard
Loved "The Power of Staying Together".......2006-03-30
Dear Dr. Cheryl,
Thank you for your honesty and writing straight from your heart. Yours is the only relationship book that is fun and filled with wisdom for all of us. I now know I am powerful enough to do anything!---Even things I used to be insecure or too depressed to do. You have taught me how to get my "Wild Women Vitality" back. I will always be grateful for your humor and love for us readers.
Your biggest fan,
Sue Barker
Book Description
Explores the POW/MIA issue through numerous interviews with soldiers and other notable figures.
Customer Reviews:
A brilliant work on the POW/MIA issue..............2003-04-06
After having read many books on the POW/MIA subject, it was immediately clear to me that after reading "POW/MIA - America's Missing Men - The Men We Left Behind", this book is the definitive encyclopedia on the subject.
Covering World War 2, Korea, Vietnam, and the first Gulf War (with major emphasis on Vietnam), it is clear to see that this book is exceptionally well researched and compiled.
Among some of the superb material is major statistics of the Vietnam war, a huge list of unaccounted for U.S. servicemen with supporting intelligence information, and a timeline overview through the years that shows exactly what has been accomplished by the United States, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos concerning the continuing POW/MIA issue.
Finishing off the book are 126 riveting photographs of American servicemen held in captivity. These photos, not easy to look at, are heart wrenching in their portrayal of the pain, suffering, and hardship suffered by our servicemen.
For the best possible material on POW/MIA's (predominantly in Vietnam), this is the book for you. It comes hugely recommended to everyone interested in this material.
A book about the real hero!.......1999-12-18
Over a period of time reviewing books has it perks. I get to choose my topics and read what I like. Chimp Robertson has made it easy to be a reviewer with this book POW/MIA America's Missing Men.
One of the most controversial subjects in U.S. History is the MIAs and POWs, and this book uncovers the truth about what really happened to those men. I was deeply moved by the enormous tragedy of the whole thing.
Not written in storybook fashion, this book you'll read gripping tales of horrific conditions by those that lived the nightmare and returned to talk about it. You'll also read about those that were as fortunate.
Most impressive was the way the book is detailed and well researched. Even more impressive is the work the author is doing to help bring back those still left behind. This book should be dedicated to the real heroes of the Vietnam War - the soldiers.

Echoes of the Ancient Wisdom of the Earth.......2004-08-03
"Thinking Like a Mountain" is an elegant tapestry of writings, poems, and observations which plumb the depths of Ecological Philosophy. This little book is a labor of love, crafted skillfully, with fascinating illustrations that convey the harmony, complexity, and uniqueness of the Natural World.
the Reoccurring Theme which is centeral to this book is that in order for Humans to be Balanced and Functional, it is necessary that they open themselves and learn to develop an increased sensitivity to the incredible diversity and richness of Nature. Within this context the Human Self, over time, becomes gradually transformed into the "Ecological Self" in an intricately and infinitely bonded universe within which the boundaries between Humans and their Ecological Selves become merged and indistinguishable from each other.
From the different, yet complementary perspectives of the three authors, the reader will come to realize that "whatever befalls the Earth befalls the sons of Earth," and that Man himself does not "weave the Web of Life" but instead exists as a mere "strand" within this interactively intricate web.
This is a simplistic, yet profound, book of "Discovery," where we learn that Gaia is becoming increasingly aware of Herself, and the intricate cycles and interactions of her countless Life-Forms within the Global Biosphere. For anyone who loves Nature, and wishes to better comprehend the philosophical interactions between Humans and Natural World, this book will prove to be a rich resource for both Mind and Spirit. Elliott Maynard, Arcos Cielos Research Center.
There I was, sitting in a canyon, thinking like a mountain........2001-01-06
I read this book while sitting under a cottonwood tree at the bottom of the Grand Canyon (a "mountain lying down"). This collection of deep-ecology essays, teachings, meditations, and poems allowed me to experience my surroundings in a new way: "Every atom in this body existed before organic life emerged 4000 million years ago. Remember our childhood as minerals, as lava, as rocks? Rocks have the potentiality to weave themselves into such stuff as this. We are the rocks dancing" (p. 36).
This book's title is taken from the 1949 SAND COUNTY ALMANAC, in which Aldo Leopold warned us that unless we attempt to connect with our ecosystem by thinking like a mountain, disaster is inevitable. Stated differently by Thich Nhat Hanh, we must listen within ourselves to "the sounds of the earth crying" (p. 7). Contributors to this 122-page book include, among others, John Seed, Joanna Macy, Pat Fleming, Arne Naess, Gary Snyder, and Chief Seattle. John Seed recognizes that "nothing short of a total revolution in consciousness will be of lasting use in preserving the life-support systems of our planet" (p. 9). He reminds us that we are "part of the rainforest recently emerged into thinking" (p. 36). Joanna Macy observes that we touch the Earth by touching our face, by touching our brothers and sisters (pp. 60-61).
This thin book contains a mountain of deep thinking, including exercises designed to "help make us more conscious of our embeddedness in the web of life" (p. 80), and meditations to protect the Earth "from the blades of men unhinged by greed, prestige and authority" (p. 91): "Relax and breathe in, breathe in Mountain, I feel my rock-roots go deep deep down to where the Earth herself is very hot" (p. 80). Reading this book could change the way you think about your life. "When you think like a mountain, one also thinks like the black bear, so that honey dribbles down your fur as you catch the bus to work" (p. 39).
G. Merritt
Amazing book on the sacredness of all beings.......2000-06-25
Deep and thought provoking is how I found this book. Quotes and theories and musings upon how we are all connected and the impacts we have on one another on this green earth. Something in this book warmed my heart. Knowing there are others out there with incredible respect for even the most tiniest and seemingly insignificant creatures was very heartening. Other books that may compare are Machelle Wrights "Behaving as if the God in all life mattered" and any book concerning the spiritual community of Findhorn. I highly recommend this book to those of you who like a thoughtful read on Nature and spirit. Thanks Brenda Tataryn.

Book Description
After forming an intense bond with Natasha, a wolf cub she raised as part of her undergraduate research, Renée Askins was inspired to found the Wolf Fund. As head of this grassroots organization, she made it her goal to restore wolves to Yellowstone National Park, where they had been eradicated by man over seventy years before. Here, Askins recounts her courageous fifteen-year campaign, wrangling along the way with Western ranchers and their political allies in Washington, enduring death threats, and surviving the anguish of illegal wolf slayings to ensure that her dream of restoring Yellowstone’s ecological balance would one day be realized. Told in powerful, first-person narrative,
Shadow Mountain is the awe-inspiring story of her mission and her impassioned meditation on our connection to the wild.

current favorite.......2007-07-25
This is an excellent book and has much to offer for nature /animal lovers, how difficult such a project is, to combat many opposing forces. It has a measure of spirituality, romance and animal nature.
Not so much about Wolves.......2007-03-21
I bought the book thinking it was about wolves and yellow stone-what the book described on the back. But in short it seemed that the majority was an auto-biography about woman who loved wolves. Other than that the book was good but I wish it had more stuff about the actual subject.
Together we can!.......2006-11-01
I cannot express in words how much I loved this book. It is more in my heart than words on a page. I felt uplifted at times and horribly saddened at other times. I cried out loud and smiled big smiles when a part of the book touched me. Rene had many, many wonderful experiences and shared her life with so many wonderful people and animals. I could not put the book down. I had bought this book for my Daughter as a Christmas gift. She is studying to be a wildlife bilogist and her passion is the wolf. Ashley (my daughter) reminds me so much of Rene that it scares me. Her passion to fight for the wolf is exactly what I wish for my daughter. I recomend this book to anyone who loves wildlife and who wants to fight for their rights. Rene is an asset to the world of wildlife and should be commended on such honorable work. Great book! Buy it! together we can all make a difference!
what a book!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-08-15
I bought this book to learn more about the wolves being reintroduced to YS after I was privelidged enough to view a pack in YS. But I got so MUCH more from this book-information of wolves But insight into our connection with nature & as a result with ourselves. I felt the author was speaking to me and of me. Thank you so much for your words!!!!!!!!!!!! Nancy Riggs
Review of Shadow Mtn.......2006-03-02
Although I know I would like the author as person; She was rather verbose in her style of writing and that lost me at times. I did conclude from what I read that she is authentically connected to the topic she wrote about but, I found several inconsistencies in her timeline which may have been my misintrepretation. Overall, I am still struggling to get through the book. Maybe I will feel better about it once I have completed it.
