Book Description
A fascinating look at the elite SEAL Team Six as told by one of its founding members; a riveting exploration into the military's Special Forces consciousness.
SEAL Team Six is one of the most elite fighting forces in the US military. In this comprehensive history of SEAL Team Six in the 1980s and 1990s, Command Master Chief Dennis Chalker tells of the missions and perils he encountered as a 'plank owner' of this counter terrorist unit.
'A perfect op', in SEAL lingo, is an operation in which a mission is completed without discovery of intervention. Chalker tells of one such 'Perfect Op' when SEALs Team Six successfully penetrated enemy territory, completed their objective and left without leaving any mark of their passage. And it is this kind of incredible, never–before–told detail that makes this a fascinating and unforgettable read.
Chalker has written a first–hand account of military life, which will rivet readers and show everyone just what a special forces unit is all about.

Dennis Chalker says "the greatest challenge offered by the U.S. military [is] to become a Navy SEAL." A former SEAL himself, Chalker tells of his life and times in one of the military's most elite units. Much of One Perfect Op describes the extensive training each SEAL goes through, not only to become a SEAL but to remain one: "Our training had been hard and dangerous for a reason: you train as you fight." And the training certainly was hazardous--Chalker describes how one of his teammates was killed during an exercise. About half the book goes by before Chalker sees his first real combat, during the invasion of Grenada in 1983. His unit was tasked with protecting the island's governor. He also saw action in Panama and on a number of other operations, though he often leaves out the names of places and dates because these remain classified. His career was certainly varied. He was once part of "Red Cell," a special SEAL team whose job was to play the part of terrorists and test the security of naval facilities. At another point, he stormed a hostile beach to help a family escape. His equipment included all the standard SEAL hardware--guns, night-vision goggles, etc.--as well as a baby carrier and pacifier. Richard Marcinko writes the introduction (Chalker served under him), and his fans will easily become Chalker's fans as well. --John MillerBook Description
No elite military commando unit since the darkest days of Korea and Vietnam has a more storied history than the U.S. Navy SEALs, a stealth fighting force legendary for its abilities to wage covert war on sea, air, and land. Now former SEAL Command Master Chief Dennis "Snake" Chalker takes us deep inside the celebrated SEAL Team Six for an astonishing, firsthand look at the formation, preparation, and deployment of a crack detachment meticulously trained for an ongoing mission that has become essential to the survival of our nation: counterterrorism. When Dennis Chalker joined Army Airborne in the early 1970s he was, by his own admission, a fairly typical young man from the Midwest. After his initial tour of duty -- and a brief, unsatisfactory stint as a civilian -- he volunteered to be a candidate for "the Teams," elite Naval Special Forces units known for their "outside the envelope" approach to warfare and their ability to strike any target, no matter how heavily guarded or impossible to reach. After enduring BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) training -- the most rigorous selection process ever devised -- Chalker rose rapidly through the ranks and was personally chosen by "Rogue Warrior" Richard Marcinko for a leadership role in Red Cell. Together they would push special operations warfare to a level it had never achieved before. From the Granada action to electrifying events in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, Chalker now describes in stunning detail previously classified operations in the war against global terrorism. And at the center of his riveting, compelling, and astonishingly honest account is one remarkable covert mission in which daring, timing, skill, and cunning worked in concert to accomplish what in SEALs parlance is known as a "perfect op": one in which enemy territory is successfully penetrated and the objective achieved without any evidence left behind to indicate that the SEALs were even there.Never before has a book given readers as spellbinding a look at the detailed inner workings of the U.S. Navy SEALs -- from a mission's planning and preparation to its successful completion. And never has there been a truer, more intimate portrait of the extraordinary brotherhood of warriors who today are on the front lines of the most devastating conflict of our age, the war that America must win.Download Description

Disappointing.......2002-11-28
The breadth of the book is devoted to describing training missions that Team 6 undertook against U.S. Naval bases to test their security. Playing hide-and-seek with security guards and rent-a-cops in training exercises hardly makes for a riveting read.
Chalker also mentions in only passing his experience at SEAL training, or BUD/S, which in the hands of a real writer would easily be worthy of a full book itself. Predictably, he refuses to shed any light on the controversy that landed his mentor Richard Marcinko in jail.
And this isn't an emotional account. We have no real insight into what makes warriors like Chalker tick or the pressures they face. All we know about life outside the Teams is that they drank and brawled a lot. And, oh yet, he got a divorce. (That's almost the way Chalker described it.)
For a more thoughtful and profound look at what it takes to be a member of the U.S. Special Operations community, take a look at Mike Yon's Danger Close. To learn what it takes to become a SEAL, read The Warrior Elite. For an action-packed thriller, stick with one of Marcinko's books.
Good book, but leaves you wanting more..........2002-11-07
good stories by one of rogue warrior's 'real team'.......2002-10-08
Another Point of View From Marcinko.......2002-10-06
So you can see the Red Cell in his eyes.
Certain details he tried to explain deeper than Marcinko.
And all the tricks and fun they had together.
Besides that, you will also find out his love and devotion to the Team and Teammates.
The valuable experience he tried to show those tadpoles.
He combines The Spirit of an Old Navy Sailor and a Modern Warrior.
Trust me, once you read it, you`ll like it.

A Revolutionary Day Along Historical US Route 4 : A Revolutionary War Road Trip, Summer 2001
Raymond C. Houghton Manufacturer: Cyber Haus ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 1931373000 |
Book Description
Ever wish you could have read that historical marker you just passed on the highway? There are many historical places along the last 100 miles of US Route 4 -- places that have marked histories dating back to three very important years in the United States' struggle for independence: 1775, 1776 and 1777.
This booklet not only covers the places and their markers, it also shows you how you can visit them in a day in your car.
The road trip begins early in the morning in Castleton, VT, historically on May 9, 1775. Throughout the day, it detours from Route 4 several times, including one big detour at the beginning that goes about 40 miles to the north. This detour sets the historical stage for the last 100 miles on US Route 4.
From Castleton, the road trip crosses US Route 4 and heads north on the old military road with stops at the Hubbardton Battlefield and Mount Independence, then up to Crown Point, NY after crossing the bridge over Lake Champlain. The trip turns south to Fort Ticonderoga, then rejoin US Route 4 at Whitehall. It continues south on US Route 4 through Fort Ann, Fort Edward, Fort Miller and Schuylerville following the Hudson River to the Saratoga National Historical Park. From the park, it continues south following the Hudson River through Stillwater, Waterford and Peebles Island until it ends in Albany, historically near the end of 1777.
Although the road trip can be completed in a day, be warned, you could easily spend a week.
The booklet is published by Cyber Haus Learning Centers. It is 106 pages long and includes over 200 color pictures.

Sound Doctrine: A Tactical Primer
Charles Heal Manufacturer: Lantern Books ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 1930051115 |
Book Description
In recent years, law enforcement has suffered a number of tactical fiascoes. Besides the loss of life and deterioration in public confidence, officers and agencies have been the subject of both civil and criminal sanctions.Unlike most tactical books, which teach tactics as a "skill set", this book emphasizes an intuitive application of funamental principles. These principles have evolved over centuries of tactical operations and form a body of "sound doctrine".
Heal not only presents a distillation of the more than ninety tactical texts, but provides an insightful and compelling call for rethinking tactics of law enforcement. Assuming no prior experience or understanding of tactical matters, Heal draws from everyday life such as competitive games, driving, or planning a vacation to show how to reconceptualize a difficult situation. Because the fundamental concepts Heal explores apply to all types of emergenices, Sound Doctrine is suitable for not only law enforcement, but firefighters, private security, and other emergency responders.
