I'm buying this updated guide for the 2nd time - 12 years ago I lost many pounds that I kept off for over 5 years using this plan. Then after going off and gaining, a few years ago I tried the fad low-carb plan and lost lots of weight and gained back double. So I'm doing this one (T-factor) again because I know it works for me long-term.
The little book is great and fits easily in a purse to carry around wherever you go so you can check calories, fat grams etc. and it includes well-known restaurants/fast food items as well, so you can really compare before choosing foods. It's also great for cooking and knowing fat/calories of each ingredient as you prepare your meals.

In September of 1939, the world was astounded by Germany's ability to defeat Poland in less than a month. With the world still puzzled by the suddenness of this event, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, and France fell in rapid succession to the German onslaught, leaving Britain in shock. Greece and Yugoslavia were rapidly over-run during April of 1941, while German-Italian forces advanced rapidly in North Africa. Russia's turn was next, when German forces began pulverizing their forces in June of 1941. How had Germany achieved victory after victory, often against numerically superior enemy forces? The answer came in two words-Panzer and Blitzkrieg. When and how had Germany built its Panzer forces and trained them for the Blitzkrieg? When was each Panzer unit formed? What was their organization? Why were Panzer units disbursed among the Panzer-Divisions. leichte Divisions, and Armee-Korps? When were the various types of Panzers developed? What were their armament, armor protection, capability? How many of each type were produced? What tactics did they use? How successful were they in combat? This is the only book that provides detailed answers to these and other questions related to how German tankers fought in World War II. Tom Jentz found the answers to these questions bu digging through original records for the past tweny-five years. The content os this book is derived solely from these original records consisting of war diaries, reports, and technical and tactical manuals written during the war. Thomas Jentz's book proves to be a fantastic source of information regarding the German Panzer forces during World War II. This volume covers the period from the early 1930s to 1942. It uses primary German sources that revealed the evolutionary stages of the German panzer formations, their weapons and numbers as the years rolled by. The book also reflects on German perception of how they did, how their tanks performed and needs for changes.
The book reflects the closeness to the source German material. The author expects the reader to have a fine tune knowledge of the German military prior to reading this book. If you have to look up to see the difference between a Panzer 38(t) to Panzer IVd, this book is probably not for you. The unit organization tables are done in the unfamiliar German symbolism instead of your usual NATO symbols so that can be confusing to the novice.
The book seem to be written for people who wants a greater understanding of the German panzer formations and thier gradual metamorphosis. The second volume covers the second half of the war when the German forces were mostly on the defensive mode.
Overall, highly informative reading material, not for the casual reader since this book don't exactly read like a best seller.

Fantastic books! The detail and information is great. These are not "spec" books of German tanks. The wonderful inclusion of original correspondence between Beck, Fromm, Guderian, etc is fascinating reading. The extensive usage of original German terminology makes for difficult reading (unless you are fluent in German) but is very much appreciated to avoid errors of translation.

This is perhaps the most usefull book on the German panzer forces in World War II, and anyone interested in the subject needs a copy.
In the first portion of the book, Jentz provides a thorough history of the development and employment of panzer formations. This includes initial formation of the first units, the development of prototypes and early equipment, as well as German armored doctrine and tactics.
The remaining portion of the book covers the employment of the Panzer divisions in war from 1939-1942. In this section, Jentz provides a wealth of information. One very usefull feature is that the organization of panzer companies, battalions, and divisions are tracked (along with the translated text of orders changing the organizations) and presented in tables or figures. Given that the Germans frequently changed the organization of these units, this is very valuable information.
Jentz also presents tank strengths and tank types for each division at the start of major operations as part of orders of battle for the panzer divisions. For example, it is thus possible to quickly look up how many Panzer II tanks were available for the invasion of France, and the amount that each division had.
The end of the book has a number of appendices, which provide data on monthly on-hand strength of each tank as well as technical data on for German and a variety of Allied tanks.
I also strongly recommend Jentz's follow-up to this, which is Panzer Truppen volume II, and covers 1943-1945.

I agree with the other reviewers. These two books are excellent! If you have any interest in German panzer, tactics and deployment i strongly recommend you to buy them. The 'combat reports' from the officers writing about there experinence during there fight with the enemy, trying to explain the good and bad how to use there tanks is great and gives you a deeper feeling of the problems they had. A must buy!
Essential to any WWII historian.......1999-05-08
Both this volume and volume 2, are excellent sources of primary documentation. Both use war diary, and after-action reports to describe tactics and weapons evolution. As I said in a review of vol.2, by allowing the crews and their platoon-battalion commanders to speak the book has an immediacy that can't be duplicated in other works of the same subject. The author assumes the reader has at least general familiarity with German operations, and knowledge of German WWII military terms and ranks. Probably not for a general interest reader.

I enjoyed this book. Even with 400+ pages, it read very quickly. Lots of research went into the book. Towards the end, I was saddened to see that the Black Elite had and have truly disappeared.

This book is written from the vantage point of an objective, 3rd party eye. Very clinical, and hard facts. This book is MUCH better than the more recent popular book on the black elite. The author lays it on the line in a professional, objective manner.

This is the most informative book on the social history of Black America that I have read. Dr. Gatewood presents us with an interesting history of the black upper class in every major city in the United States. His focus on the prominent Bruce family opens our eyes to the life and times of the "colored aristocracy" in the nations capital during the late 19th century. This is a must for those interested in the social history of black America.

I tried not to put this book down and just give it up-it was a true test of wills! Cheryl Ladd may have accomplished her goals as a golfer but the book is nothing but fluff as big as Farrah Fawcetts' hair in the '70's. A real disappointment in a book that I thought would be more provacative, at least have a few good golf tips!

I played golf years ago, and gave it up because I'm a tomboy--and got tired of hitting from the girls tees, scavenging for clubs in the "women's" corner of the huge golf store, and the fact I would never hit as far as my husband. Recently a GIRLFRIEND convinced me to take it up again. I scoffed at this book, when I saw it--but my husband mentioned it, after seeing her play in a golf tournament on TV. And you what?! I laughed out loud. She made me realize golf for women is different. Chauvinists still exist in the modern world, we can't hit as far (get over it), and golf with your husband can be enjoyable. I'm not sure the golf instruction was enough, or needed--but I'm going to try the stronger grip she suggests. I'm sure she paid the big bucks for some good instructors--so I'll try it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I thought Cheryl Ladd wrote an excellent book. It was interesting, funny and inspiring. I took up golf to play with my husband. After reading this book, Cheryl inspired me to take some more lessons to improve my game, and hopefully play more golf with my husband. Cheryl Ladd told some funny stories in the book that actually had me laughing out loud. I would say this was my favorite book I read this year; ok it's early in the year, but I totally recommend this book for men and women. Enjoy!
A fun book for any golfer at heart.......2006-01-31
A fun book to read on those wintery days when you can't go out for a round of golf. It's lighthearted and an easy read. Female golfers will definitely sympathize with Cheryl's Token Chick stories. I found myself nodding in agreement and laughing out loud as I read the book on my commute to work because any woman who's played at least one round with the boys will totally relate.
I recommend Token Chicks for any golfer, male or female. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced golfer, we all have at least one embarrassing golf story. This book is a reminder to us all that even during those frustrating golf moments (and there are plenty of them) we all need to laugh at ourselves and most importantly have fun!

I just finished the book and I'm writing my first review ever. I actually bought the book for a woman that works in my office and I started reading the first few pages. Before I knew it, I was a third of the way through the book. I'm not a real "book person" but this book seemed different. Cheryl's style is very "friendly", it feels like I'm sitting with her and she's talking to me. Anyway, I wound up buying another copy of Token Chick for the gift, and kept the original one for myself. Excellent read.

An interesting and valuable book for Civil War Historians.......2003-04-06
This is one of Glenn Dedmondt's books of Civil War Flags of the Confederacy the others in the series include Civil War Flags of Louisiana, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
There are illustrations of the flags that Alabama Regiments flown in battle and in camp. Stories behind the flags tell of how they were made and presented to the units that fought for the Confederacy. These stories are interesting and a valuable resource to the Civil War Historian who is interested about individual regiments that fought for the Confederacy.
The regiments that fought certainly had a wide variety of flags. From the basic 1st National Flag and its varieties, to the Army Of Northern Virginia aka "The Confederate Battle Flag" that units made modifications to as well as quite unique flags that were presented by the Ladies of various towns, all these flags are shown either in illustration or in pictures. This makes for quite enjoyable and interesting reading.
Some of the flags flown met with violent ends. Some were captured in battle by Union Soldiers. Other flags were secretly secured by soldiers who would of rather been killed then give up their flags. Some of these flags that were flown in battle had their color bearers shot while charging the regiment (in some circumstances 3 to 9 color bearers were killed while flying the same flag in battle). These make interesting and tragic stories that will keep the reader way into the night-time hours looking at the flags and their history.
This series is an invaluable tool for the Civil War Researcher/Historian, as well as the "arm-chair" historian who would like to know more about the Civil War.

Scholars and citizens alike have endlessly debated the proper limits of presidential action within our democracy. Yet few have truly understood the nature of the president's special powers and their impact on American life. In this volume, Phillip Cooper offers a cogent guide to these powers and shows how presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush have used and abused them in trying to realize their visions for the nation.
As Cooper reveals, there has been virtually no significant policy area or level of government left untouched by the application of these presidential "power tools." Whether seeking to regulate the economy, committing troops to battle without a congressional declaration of war, or blocking commercial access to federal lands, presidents have wielded these powers to achieve their goals, often in ways that seem to fly in the face of true representative government. Cooper defines the different forms these powers take--executive orders, presidential memoranda, proclamations, national security directives, and signing statements--demonstrates their uses, critiques their strengths and dangers, and shows how they have changed over time.
Here are Washington's "Neutrality Proclamation," Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, and the more than 1,700 executive orders issued by Woodrow Wilson in World War I. FDR issued many executive orders to implement his National Industrial Recovery Act--but also issued one that led to the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. Truman issued orders to desegregate the military and compel loyalty oaths for federal employees. Eisenhower issued numerous national security directives. JFK launched the Peace Corps and issued an order to control racial violence in Alabama. All through executive action.
As Cooper demonstrates in his balanced treatment of these and subsequent presidencies, each successive administration seems to find new ways of using these tools to achieve policy goals--especially those goals they know they are unlikely to accomplish with the help of Congress. Reviewing all recent administrations up to George W. Bush's "faith-based initiatives," Cooper assesses the costs and benefits of these executive actions and offers a crucial new perspective on the ongoing debate regarding the expanding scope of presidential power.

Respect for all species.......2007-06-15
It's nice to see and qualify the feelings many of us have had since childhood about loving animals. It seems to get faded as we grow older and integrate in a society that has put a lesser value on them for some reason. But here is a book that helps us accept those good emotions of the past and perpetuates the feeling that one day all life will be regarded having equal value. What Jane has done in the world is amazing and rocked the boat of science and for that reason alone one should experience her writing. Animals certainly can teach us a lot about ourselves..and this can only make our lives better. If you are ready, read this light hearted, easy to read book.
Speaking Out For Those That Can't.......2007-05-27
One additional trust are the author's themselves; who better to speak for the animals than Jane Goodall and Marc Bekoff? The formatting of conversational style writing with each author's commentary separately noted, gives an insight and understanding of their personal experience, and individual dedication relating to their life passions. The stories, facts, and touching emotions that come through in the author's words, should make anyone stand up and want to do something, no matter how big or small, to make a difference in helping to save our natural environment. The world needs more great people like Goodall and Bekoff, to speak out for those that cannot, before it is too late.
A Global Essential.......2004-05-29
Of the many books I have read dealing with environmental issues, this has had a major impact. The authors have tremendous credibility and scientific knowledge. If ever there was a canary in the mine, it is this book. We have plundered our planet, ignored the quality of life for other sentient beings, and have failed to see the need for a balance in nature and our own lives.
There are messages here that all should heed. But, most of all, there is hope if we pay attention.
Our current U.S. and world leadership has failed our planet. Hopefully, there are those who can steer the world back on course.

This book lay for months on my bedside table before I found the strength to read it. I could not bear to touch it because I knew it would contain suffering. The book makes powerful painful reading. Once I started reading it I just could not put it down. In order to be able to make a difference I really needed to know what is going between humans and animals. How we abuse them. The book is not all gloom, it also tells about many persons who have come forward in their defence of animals. Sometimes even at great persnal loss.

Rebuilding Our Ethics Through Trust.......2002-11-09
Dr. Jane Goodall and Dr. Marc Bekoff have compiled ideas, stories, experience and much more about living a humane and ethical life into a book accessible to all. As the animal protection community has done for 50 years, this book shows that humans must respect the environment and all life if we, as a species, expect to survive. It is a very simple premise yet humanity has yet to catch on. The Ten Trusts not only gives us a path to follow, but it shows how others have acted before in trying to alter destructive patterns. Caring for others (animals, humans and nature) is not something radical, it is - humane! It is something everyone must do.
Goodall and Bekoff share their experiences from living a life of compassion and a boundless ethic. Few people are as well known and respected as Jane Goodall, but she has never rested on her fame. Instead, she stepped away from her field research and beloved friends in Gombe National Park, not to build monetary wealth, but to share her wealth of knowledge with young and old alike through lectures and programs such as Roots and Shoots. While Bekoff has spent years educating a more humane youth at the University of Colorado, all while helping us to better understand and appreciate animal behavior.
Over the last two years the Bush administration has systematically deconstructed even basic protections for the environment in order to please corporate greed. The Ten Trusts talks about many issues, one of which will certainly reappear following recent elections, is the drilling for oil in Alaska's ANWR. Even though the American public is opposed to destroying the last pristine environment, the Administration hopes to lull us into a belief that it is needed.
This does not have to be. Goodall, who revolutionized how humans think about other species through her work with chimpanzees and Bekoff, who is a leader in showing us that the minds of animals are as unique and complex as ours, have concisely gathered a wonderful set of ethics into an easily readable book. A book that everyone should read because it shows how we really can and MUST be compassionate.
