Book Description
Children don't arrive with an instruction book. Raising children and providing for their physical as well as emotional needs is a difficult job for which we receive little training. We often approach parenting reflexively, relying on what we learned from how we were parented without reflecting on what we are doing. This book introduces the Parent Empowerment And Child Empowerment (PEACEFUL Parenting) approach, which will help parents develop their own style of parenting that is grounded in a philosophy. It will not just offer a set of guidelines, but will give parents the tools necessary to make thoughtful decisions about their parenting options that exist within a consistent system of beliefs. PEACEFUL Parenting is more process than program and is sufficiently flexible to be adapted to a variety of family situations-single parents, special needs children, blended families, ranges in age of children, and a variety of value structures.
Book Description
With the world's largest population, largest army, and fastest growing economy, China is now building a large modern navy to assure its status as Asia's predominant power. Yet the West is sorely limited in its knowledge of what could become its greatest naval opponent. This major new study--the first in more than fifteen years--provides the specialist and general reader alike with timely, authoritative information about China's developing navy and its quest for power. The author, a professor at the National War College, first looks at China's two-thousand-year-old maritime tradition and then examines China's extensive territorial claims at sea, following up with a path-blazing description of the nation's increasing dependence on energy sources mined from the ocean floor.
The main focus of the book is a detailed examination of China's navy, its organization and its submarines, ships, and airplanes that form the heart of the sea-going force. The book also takes into account the officers and sailors who man the growing fleet and Beijing's efforts to train and educate them to be both professionally capable and politically reliable. China's future plans for its navy, including doctrine and operations, are fully discussed. In his conclusion, the author places China's naval developments within the context of national goals and plans as well as in the international arena. He asserts that Beijing will continue as a continental power with a maritime strategy and a navy focused on specific, limited goals, while reminding readers that the reunification of Taiwan is an objective that may well involve the United States.

Great Book, Hope that it will be Updated.......2007-08-27
Capt. Cole does a great job boiling several decades China's naval strategy down into a few hundred pages. The book is both broad and deep, but not overwhelming. Unfortunately the book has not been updated since it was written in 2001, much has changed in almost a decade as China plan to update its military is moving at breakneck pace. This book is the place to start if your want to understand what makes China's PLAN tick, but it is not a final resting point. Read this book, and then hit the library; it will teach you what questions you have to ask, and at the pace that China is moving, you will have to re-ask these questions every few months, because the answers are changing. If Dr. Cole (he also has a PhD) has the time to update this book, I will buy it again.
Informative and highly useful..........2007-07-21
CAPT Cole's text performs what any survey ought to do: it provides information that is broad but not too deep. If you know nothing about the PLAN, this is the book with which to start. Structure, equipment, doctrine, and prospects are all ably covered. While one may question one or two conclusions about the likely future of either the PLAN's capabilities or its relative strength, it must be remembered that this book is six years old; with a subject as dynamic as the growth and change within the PLAN, it is impressive that CAPT Cole's text has remained as relevant as it is. Highly recommended for the new and curious.
Cole is a non-linear schizophrenic........2002-09-07
Why is the review submission link way down at the bottom for this book? Anyway, Cole has a mentality that's pre Hiroshima-Nagasaki. He interprets current geo-politics as if it were still 1941. Unlike the Japanese navy/air force which was an entirely indigenous affair with planes made by Mitsubishi and ships designed by Japanese engineers the Chinese military is based on Soviet plans. During the Sino_Japanese war Japan gained an easy victory over China for among other reasons China's inability to build a national military industry, using Russian made fighter planes, Russian firearms etc. And that's still the case only now they're using decrepit Soviet made submarines armed with nuclear warheads. A fact Cole seems utterly oblivious of. And a fact that renders his Von Clauswitz grand strategist posing ridiculous.

Questionable???.......2003-08-11
This book was published by the great great great grandson of the author, Aaron Smith. In 1822 A. Smith was captured by a crew of Spanish pirates in the Caribbean Sea. The pirates designated him their navigator and surgeon, and he sailed with them for a number of months before being captured by an English warship and taken to London. Smith then was tried at the Old Bailey Court and wrote this book in 1824. I read the book and highlighted details I found intriguing. But throughout the book I wondered if Smith didn't exaggerate the pirates' abuse and torture in order to save his own hide. (If he was the pirates' navigator and surgeon, why in Heaven's name would they torture him?) I think the book is a farfetched fantasy on the part of Aaron Smith. And I wonder if he ever even went to sea. His great great great grandson does not explain where he got the original manuscript and whether he had it authenticated by scientists to see if it was written in 1824. And he does not mention going to the Old Bailey and looking up the court records. I wonder if this book is a hoax! I suggest that instead readers read THE BONDWOMAN'S NARRATIVE by Hannah Crafts, an autobiographical novel about a slave woman. The editor, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., has 75 pages about the scientists he contacted and the tests they ran to authenticate his manuscript. My suggestion to readers is to look for bibliographies, indices, appendices, photos, etc. then judge for yourself whether the facts within a book are factual or fantasy. Some modern novelists write fiction then in the back of the book explain the truth that the fiction is based on. A good example of that type of book is A Diary of a Slave Girl, Ruby Jo. The storyline combines slaves with pirates, and the author explains much of the history at that time with text and photos.
A Fine Account of Those Most Scurilous Pirates.......2002-06-04
Aaron Smith was an English sailor who was captured by an unidentified Spanish pirate off of Cuba in 1822. The book chronicles his harrowing ordeal as he is forced by the pirate captain into service as a lookout, navigator, doctor and translator. In constant fear for his life, Smith is perpetually torn between his morality to his fellow man and his undaunted will to survive. Graphic in it's depiction and obviously meant (at least to a degree) as a vindication of his actions, "Atrocities" is a gripping recounting of how incredibly harsh conditions among the pirates could be and the indomidable spirit of a man who refused to forfeit his ethics soley to save his own life. Powerful and engrossing.
a gratifying read.......2001-09-08
There is much to be said for this account of Aaron Smith's harrowing experience among pirates who terrorized the seas during the early nineteenth century. Captured and forced to work as their navigator, Aaron walks the reader through his daily activities and the many thoughts and feelings that he experienced during his ordeal. His observations, internal and external, are keen. His descriptions seem winningly quaint, the way only true historical writing can. He also provokes the willing reader to examine a very uncomfortable and 'timeless' truth: if a captive does not placate his criminal tormentors, he will be killed; if he placates them too much, he may be identified with them and tried as an accomplice when rescued (apprehended?) Mr Smith takes us to scary places in both his world and ours.
The most famous account of a captive aboard the pirates........2001-07-27
The life of the young English sailor Aaron Smith changed dramatically during a Summer night in the Caribbean, while he was sailing back to England to see his familiy and girlfriend. It was the seventh day of July 1822, when Smith's ship, the Zephyr, was captured by brutish Cuban pirates off the Cuban Coast. After being boarded and sacked, both the ship and its crew were released, but the unfortunate Smith was obliged to remain in the pirate schooner for the next ten months. Unfortunately for him, his knowledge and skill as a pilot were much appreciated by the pirate chief, and he had no option but to obey, if he pretended to survive. "The Atrocities of the Pirates" is the true account of the terrifying ten months that Aaron Smith remained on board the pirate ship. Smith's story constitutes a fascinating adventure, where courage and bravery appear as the main qualities that kept this young man from perishing in the hands of brutish and unscrupulous criminals. Smith describes in detail his tremendous experience and shares his fear and anguish with the reader, for he shows that any moment during his captivity could have been the last. He always kept his dreams alive, and the sole idea of returning to his girlfriend gave him the strength to survive. He wrote the account in 1824 to clean his name, for as soon as he escaped from the pirates in Havana, he was taken prisioner to England and faced a trial on the accusation of piracy. He narrowly escaped an infamous death by hanging but, anyway, his reputation was never quite clean after the trial, so he decided to share his story in order to defend his honor. Moreover, in 1829, when he thought that his sufferings were over, he was tried again accused of piracy for having been on board the pirate while a Dutch ship was taken. More than one century and a half later, Robert Redmond, his great great grandson offers in this edition an interesting introduction based on careful research, the whole account written by Aaron Smith, plus his subsecuent fate: how he won the trial and escaped death by hanging, his marriage, and the end of the infamous pirate schooner where he was kept in captivity. This interesting book must be read by any person interested in pirate history. It is the most authentic, detailed and vivid account of a pirate captive that has survived the perils of time.

Pure Poetry.......1999-07-31
I can't even begin to describe the affect this book has had on my way of thinking in regards to the universe we live in and my own mortality. Before I read this book(a billion times)I was always interested in the universe and what was out there. A co-worker heard of my interest and bought me this book as a Christmas present. I thought, "wow. pretty cool". But in no way was I ready for the abundance if information placed at my disposal by this book. I'm just in awe when I read it. The author really does seem to have passion about our universe and it showed in the writing. The descriptions and hypotheticals are so vivid. You don't have to be some genious to understand what this book is telling you but it doesn't come of as "kiddy" either. To me that is what makes it so wonderful. It gives you the feeling that someone has actually traveled to the ends of the universe and their just telling you what it was like. Even the chapter on Earth is suprisingly very interesting. It gave me a new appreciation(and fear) for this planet. So calm and unassuming in comparison to other planets. But so powerful to all it's inhabitants. "Before our universe existed, there was no past, present, or future. Space did not exist, nor did vacuum. There was nothing-even dark cannot exist without light". wow
Breathtaking!.......1999-05-24
This book was, simply put, breathtaking. I don't know why someone would wish to sabotage the overall rating by giving this masterpiece one star...but clearly they were not reading the same book I was. To each their own. I found the facts within the book quite accurate myself....having read more than one hundred books of its kind and finding no inconsistencies. The pictures within the book itself were magnificent and well placed throughout the book. The text itself was also very informative and showed that the author was very well versed in the ways of the cosmos...both theoretically and factually. I highly recommend this book to anyone with interest in our cosmos. You won't be dissapointed.
Very little to do with the Hubble.......1999-04-21
This book actually shows very little understanding of the work done by Hubble or its relationship to other NASA missions. Many of the pictures attributed to the Hubble come from other missions; further, more than one artist's rendition is given as a Hubble image.
great book.......1999-02-03
great pictures and text, a most have i give it a 5 out of
great book.......1999-01-30
great text and pictures, everything is perfect, and in the book the speed of light is typed as 186,000 m.p.h. or something, it is listed many times.

By the time the reader arrives at the final chapter in the book, there is a concrete outline to assist anyone in creating a local "Make a Difference Plan," which is the best way to review this book. This reviewer, therefore took it upon himself to create a local "Make a Difference Plan," based on the templates in Chapter 9: http://ABC4All.net/madp.htm The book needs to be translated into other languages and perhaps local editions can be written for countries around the world.

Book Description
An indispensable guide to how wars are fought, James F. Dunnigan's classic text has been enormously popular with citizens, professional soldiers, and journalists alike. Now, it's been revised to include a stunning array of new subjects. From the cutting edge of cyberwar to the current concern about terrorism, How to Make War presents a clear picture of complex weapons, armed forces, and tactics.
Describing a new world order, one with a greater number of equipped players than the "Big Two" (the United States and the former Soviet Union), this updated edition features all the elements of traditional warfare, along with a discussion of terrorist techniques; nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons; and Third World ballistic missiles. Past editions of How to Make War were chillingly accurate in assessing and predicting the outcomes of all the major conflicts in the past two decades. Loaded with expertise and the latest information, this edition is an essential reference for any military library –– and a work that forewarns, and forearms, the Free World for the conflicts ahead.

That's certainly NOT a peaceful text..........2007-10-10
Amazing book. Every "military freak" (or let's say, enthusiast of this topic) must read it! Updated database of all types of modern warfare all over the world. Written in a simple however accurate language with a bit of joke will never get you bored. Dunnigan has collected a detailed knowledge about both the weaponry and strategy or tactics. This book will really make you understand how do people make wars nowadays. Then you can sit down and think WHY do they do it at all.
Dunnigan is the best.......2006-11-04
Not only is it extremely informative, but Dunnigan takes a potentially dry topic and makes it fun. Provocative thinking, excellent writing.
Astonishingly comprehensive and well informed.......2005-10-25
This is just the book I was looking for to get an introduction to modern warfare. It is comprehensive, thoughful, and insightful. Dunnigan is not afraid to provide an educated opinion where precise data is not available.
The book is full of facts and detailed information about weapons and systems, and the various armed forces, but also covers broader issues like leadership and even the effect of military spending on the economy and what is the real source of military strength.
I was blown away by the amount of information and insight packed into just over 600 pages. I have no military experience so I am not in a position to verify the accuracy of everything in the book but in the areas I do know about he was spot on (computers, in the chapter on cyberwar).
Good for Wargamers - Veterans Need Not Apply.......2005-01-04
Mr. Dunnigan is an respected authority on wargames and military simulations, having produced more than one hundred (mostly manual) games between the late 1960's and early 1990's. The rise and complexity of computer and video games has mostly left him behind, however, in producing profitable products in recent years. This book is best suited for a reader interested in wargaming or as a basic introduction to broad military topics. If you already own the Updated Third Edition (1983), very little substance has changed in the Fourth Edition. The post-9/11 war on terrorism and current war in Iraq are not covered in any useful detail. In fact, lessons from the first Gulf War are not explained much at all. The "How to Make War" editions are written very much from the perspective of a wargamer and to a lesser extent a civilian historical and military analyst. Mr. Dunnigan is not a military professional and did not command men and machines in combat as a career soldier, sailor or airmen. His insights are good and in many cases spot on, but an experienced reader will quickly realize that the book superficially covers most topics and never really explains the psychology, politics, and specialization behind the numbers. It portrays an idealized and romantic view, akin to Tom Clancy`s fiction, by simplifying the issues into mathematical analysis and technical explanations of systems. John Keegan's books do a much better job of giving readers a good understanding of men at war and how they win. Mr. Dunnigan's writing style may also put some readers off, as he tends to lecture and ramble. Given his expert stature in the wargaming community, this professor to pupil style is easily understood. In summary, this book makes a good introduction for non-professional military readers and in particular wargamers.
Very good.......2004-12-25
This book is one of the best I've come across on the subject of modern warfare. The chapters are well organized , easily read, and brutally honest on the truths of modern war as it is today and will be in the future. Dunnigan delves not only into tactis and strategy, but also other, often overlooked details of war in the modern world. Among these topics are morale of soldiers, training, equipment and technology, and logistics. Recommended for any student of warfare and current global issues.

surprising weak armor.......2002-04-14
This book seems to be very complete and the author highly qualified in war technology, strategy, logistics... For that one is easily convinced by almost all his affirmations but one: it's about the tanks: he says them are impressive war machines, but you must don't trust very much on his power: these steel monsters have demonstrated to be very vulnerable and his use are best when infantry have destroyed the main opposition, against residual resistence ¿¿??. Dunnigan trusts much more in war aircraft. I confess these paragraphs are astonishing for me after the Panzer campaigns, and today, in Middle East. As it were one must expect that also there this book must be read and serve for the ceasefire for once.
An excellent book.......2001-02-06
Very thorough. Excellent knowledge of the arms and methods of modern warfare as used around the time of the Gulf War and Cold War. Graphs and charts comparing Western and Russian /Third World armies and arms. Discussion of everything from strategies to morale and the intangibles of modern war. Gives insight into warfare and you understand why anyone who's been there doesn't want to go there again. Yet it gives the necessities and analysis of war. It's got alot of information, which the average reader may find more information than they need or want to know. Yet the readability is good. An excellent book.
HOW TO MAKE WAR.......2000-10-04
Background
1. 'How To Make War' is as the title suggests is aimed to be `a comprehensive guide to modern warfare for the post cold war era'. This, the third in the series of 'How To Make War' books written by the author James Dunnigan is a comprehensively revised edition published in 1995. The author has gone on to gain much acclaim through his later titles including the well-known `How Not to Make War'.
2. After the end of the Cold War, the world has seen major upheavals in the politico-military arena. The emergence of the United States as the only superpower and recent events such as the Gulf War in 1991, have changed the threat perceptions of most countries and as a consequence military policies. This has invariably lead to a rethink in warfare methods and techniques, in addition to the continued advancement in terms of warfare technology. Dunnigan has written this revised edition of 'How To Make War' with special emphasis to the above changes in the post Cold War scenario.
The Book
3. The author begins by acquainting the reader with the universal `principles of war'. The book is structured into four major sections, the first three being the obvious air, land and sea theatres. More importantly however, is Dunnigan's emphasis on the human factor involved in war, which has a section by itself devoted to it in Part Four of the book. In addition there are four other sections dealing with special weapons, numerical warfare, and transportation logistics. The final section is a summary and statistics of the weapons and armed forces of the time. The sections are interspersed with as many as 48 different charts and tables displaying a vast array of data, which help the reader in assimilating the text. The sections on Ground Combat, Air Operations and Naval Operations introduce and discuss the composition, roles, conditions, developments and future trends of their respective components. This helps the reader to understand and comprehend the facts presented subsequently.
4. In the part dealing with ground combat, the author has brought out the changing role of the infantry with the advance in technology. At the same time he clearly brings out it's indispensability with respect to occupation of enemy territory, which continues to be the final determinant of victory. Dunnigan also charts out the material developments in ground battle methods, by providing details of the armory of the major players of today. The tremendous development in artillery weapons is well documented and interesting, while the factual account of the same is fairly precise and informative. This section also has a chapter devoted to the increasing role of the paramilitary forces and reserves.
5. In the section on Air Operations, the author tries to substantiate his theory that the air force is primarily an information gathering service whose warfare role evolved to destroy the enemy air forces. He does dwell on it's emerging importance in softening of enemy targets for the infantry, while contending that this role is being taken up by air support divisions of the latter. He also elaborates at length on the air force's "simple missions" but complex "means". A separate discussion on Air Defence in the following chapter contains a wealth of information and statistics.
6. In the section dealing with the Navy, the author stresses the importance of control of commercial shipping lanes through naval might. The importance of technology upgrades for the US despite the indisputable superiority of its forces is dealt with at length. Submarine warfare and naval air operations are also discussed separately in different chapters.
7. The author has laid great emphasis on the human factors of war. He has dealt elaborately on the psychological, professional, motivational and leadership aspects of this major constituent of warfare. One cannot dispute his contention that "when it comes to fighting, warfare is not waged by numbers, but through the courage, determination, skill, and leadership of individuals. As a part of this section the author has included a brief discussion of the peacetime role and pressures on the armed forces.
8. The discussion on special weapons includes interesting details on electronic warfare and the opening up of space as the new dimension in warfare. The dangers of biological and chemical weapons and the tendency of Third World countries giving in to this low cost option is clearly brought out. The author also raises relevant questions about the viability of Nuclear Weapons and their relation to the conventional options. Dunnigan also raises important issues of economics and the logistics of war. The reader is given a concise picture of the quantum of mobilisaton of supplies and the related costs.
Comments
9. The book as a whole provides a fairly comprehensive picture of the world's weapons and armed forces. It also attempts to give an insight into the tactics employed. The information provided is interesting and educative without going into specifications of armaments and weapon systems. The author's credibility is enhanced by the fact that warfare developments and results of wars, have conformed to his predictions in earlier books. This book should not however be in any way mistaken for a book of reference akin to Jane's. It is more of an educative tool in the hands of a young officer who wishes to improve his understanding and comprehension of the various aspects of warfare.
10. At the same time the reader may be cautioned that the author's viewpoint is primarily based on information and intelligence derived from a majority of US sources. Some of the theories enunciated and assessments are based totally on US perceptions. Additionally the concepts enunciated in 1995, may require some revision in the fast changing world scenario. The length of the book and its text format (622 pages of fine print) does tend deter the prospective reader. However, the book provides the discerning reader (the service officer and the layman alike), an opportunity to expand his horizons, by enabling a fairly in depth insight into all the important aspects of warfare while increasing his knowledge on weapons and systems. 'How To Make War,' undoubtedly needs to be included in any Naval officers `should read' list.
Useful not only for the military.......2000-10-01
Excellent review of how military operations occur. I differ with the other reader below that says that the author assumes only two armies, the US and the USSR. He proposes that two different models exist. In the US/Western model the units are more equiped with the talents required to be self reliant. In the Soviet model the field units use the services of experts in other units because of lack of human resources with the needed skills. This got me thinking about the way we organize our businesses and how one model has proven more effective in the battlefield.
packed with info........2000-05-18
When researching my novel THE SHAPE: A NOVEL OF INTERNATIONAL SUSPENSE (available on this site, incidentally) I used HOW TO MAKE WAR for my research so as to make the ordnance section of my novel authentic. This is a well-written and well-thought-out book, and I highly recommend it.
Customer Reviews:
Imperfect, but still the best US Government Text.......2005-08-25
I have taught AP US Government and Politics for 5 years, and in the course of reviewing most every textbook on the market this one is probably the best overall.
The previous reviewer that complains about conservative bias does not know what he or she is talking about. If anything, the 2002 edition tilts left overall, for example, to demonstrate federalism they reprinted a map produced by NARAL that grades states by the liberalism of their abortion laws. Over the course of the school year invariably my decidedly liberal northern Califonia students point out other examples of liberal bias. Some of the poorly written sections are naked attempts to address what the authors assume is a cynical audience, but that isn't a problem throughout -- it is highly concentrated in chapter 1. The overall attitude encourages students to question the system without being unremittingly negative.
The historical review that begins most chapters is sound. Many textbooks assume too much about student's prior knowledge.
The best part of the book are the data presentations. The map drawn in proportion to each state's weight in the electoral college is one example. Before I switched schools and over to this textbook, I had a bevy of handouts that took bits and pieces from other textbooks and I found that most of that "best of" set had been woven into the O'Connor text already.
It isn't a perfect textbook, naturally, but a good course in Government will have supplemental readings from a variety of perspectives to challenge and complement the main text. I found a few mistakes in the 2002 edition (merging Wesberry v. Sanders into Baker v. Carr for example) but overall it was reliable and far less slanted than John Q. Wilson, whose writing is more college level and intellectual but rather apologetic for elitism throughout.
I've been to conferences with dozens of experienced HS teachers and this text is well respected by people who have read it cover to cover and by those who have had the opportunity to compare it to other general textbooks. If what you want from a government class is to have your preconceptions reaffirmed, you can find a far more biased set of sources and enjoy them as you like. If you want a reasonably balanced and comprehensive introduction to US Govt., this is a good resource.
A top-notch Government textbook.......2004-07-07
I totally disagree with the other reviewer. This is truly a top-notch textbook. I have been teaching introductory American Government courses at the university level for 4 years, and I can honestly say that this is one of the finest introductory textbooks available. It covers all aspects of American government in a clear, concise manner that makes it very easy to read. The book is very well-organized, and it truly makes teaching American government a joy. Students will love it, and professors will be very happy to find a text that actually ENGAGES students in the learning process (whereas most textbooks just turn them off).
textbook!?.......2004-06-12
My instructor required this book for a college political science class. After having read and studied it from beginning to end, there were a couple of aspects that bothered me.
There is a lot of repetition, over facts, issues and definitions. Sometimes I would read the same passage 2 or 3 times, and there were times when the exactly same passage was repeated, as in "copy and paste". Some paraphrasing would have been nice.
The book also seemed to be focused towards those shocking moments in the US history. The 9/11 topic was overdone. It was brought up countless of times. The Clinton scandal took second place among many others.
It would have been appreciated if the summary would have been more representative; 4 lines occupying just half of the page (equivalent to maybe 2 standard lines) summarizing 6 pages is too short to my taste considering the amount of essential facts and concepts students have to remember. Back then I wished there would have been a glossary of the organizational or the authors' own abbreviations. I just couldn't keep track of them and eventually got lost and frustrated, especially in the last chapters.
It think it is weird when the graphs take sometimes half or more of the page when they could have been done on a smaller scale saving a lot of paper (and a lot of trees) and I also wondered why were there more pictures of GW Bush in comparison to the other presidents, candidates and officeholders combined. The writing style, in my opinion, could have been more concise and precise.
I was very disappointed for having spent more than $100 on a soft cover book that seems just fairly put together.

Will thematically appropriate color photography.......2001-03-13
J. Krishnamurti (1895-1986) was a philosopher whose influence was international in scope. The author of more than forty books, Krishnamurti maintained that we live in a time of a growing awareness to what threatens our natural environment, even our very survival as a species, and that we require a radically new, world-wide approach to ecological issues that can only be brought about through the freeing of the human mind from an exploitive self-centeredness and the emergence of an environmental sensitivity and appreciation for the human condition as a whole. Very highly recommended for students of environmental studies, as well as Krishnamurti's philosophy of life, All The Marvelous Earth blends superbly produced, thematically appropriate color photography with Krishnamurti's writings and fundamental truths.
All the marvelous earth in its beauty and grandeur.......2001-03-12
All the Marvelous Earth is an anthology of Krishnamurti's writings on nature - it is unlike any of his previous works. This book looks wonderingly at all the marvelous earth in its beauty and grandeur, our connections with other creatures with whom we share our world, and reflections on human destruction of species and the environment. Through his deep appreciation of beauty and questioning of our relationship with nature, Krishnamurti goes beyond the environmentalists' appeal for sustainable development to argue that the interaction between humankind and nature has a deeper and life-enhancing dimension. The dazzling photographs of this book by 48 of the world's top photographers, remind us again of the urgency of forming a relationship with nature and with each other.
