Don't go there.......2004-08-17

I didn't feel like a dummy until I tried to use this guide. My husband and I are good at following maps and directions and this guide has neither. Some of the maps are incorrect as are the directions..you can't get there following the directions, believe me we tried. Makes us wonder if anyone actually went to the places in the book or just gave directions off of a map. Also if the guide has anyone that actually tries to follow the directions before the printing to see if us 'dummies' can actually follow them.

Hypersingular Integral Equations and Their Applications presents various methods for solving singular and hypersingular integral equations. In particular, the authors construct new exact analytical solutions of some two-dimensional hypersingular integral equations and obtain an analytical solution in quadratures for the hypersingular equation on the sphere. They present theorems for the existence and uniqueness of solutions for hypersingular integral equations, and the theory they develop in this monograph can be used to investigate the convergence of approximate solutions obtained by finite-difference methods for elliptic-type partial differential equations. Numerous examples demonstrate some of the many applications of hypersingular integral equations. These include solutions to problems involving flow past the deck of a ship, the diffraction of acoustic waves on a cube, and flow past an airfoil with suction on its surface. About the authors: Ivan K. Lifanov is Head of the Department of Mathematics at the Zhukovsky Air Force Engineering Academy and a Chief Researcher at the Institute of Computing Mathematics at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a Professor at Orel State University. His research interests focus on numerical methods, integral equations, and aerodynamics. Lev Poltavskii is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Zhukovsky Air Force Engineering Academy and author of more than 50 scientific publications. G.M. Bon Scott is one of my heroes, and this book is a poor biography of his life. Although Bon's parents were involved in the book, the lack of other good sources is surprising and disappointing, and as a result this book is unsatisfying.

I guess we have to wait until the Young brothers write their book!

A fine body of work by Clinton Walker that gives a balanced insight into the world of Bon Scott. Walker presents Scott as a multi-dimensional person (& musician) and relays to the reader (through factual comment & interviews with Scott's family, friends & colleagues) the many & often contradictory aspects that made up Bon Scott. Buy it & read it in conjunction with "AC/DC Maximum Rock & Roll" by Murray Engleheart with Arnaud Durieux, both excellent value publications !

If you are going to read a biography about Bon Scott and/or AC/DC then THIS book is definately the one to read.

Very well written. Intelligent, detailed, honest and was definately written from the heart. A truly excellent piece of work.
The author had had encounters with Bon personally and seeked out Bons friends & family for information and had Bons parents consent and blessing to do so. Bons mother said, after Clinton Walker asked if it was ok to write a book about Ronald Belford Scott, "Bon would have liked that".
Alberts, who had the AC/DC rights were uncooperative. How absolutely arrogant of them.
In any case Clinton Walker did a brilliant job and this is definately a MUST READ for all Bon Scott lovers.
I was only 7 or 8 years old around the time AC/DC brought out "It's a long way to the top - if you wanna rock n roll", living in Fitzroy, Melbourne, and loved it instantly as I did every other song AC/DC brought out when Bon was singing with the band. Sorry Brian but there is just no comparison.
Bon has made a deep impact into so many millions of lives and the whole world, I'm sure, still mourns this brilliant artist and lover of music (and women).
Bon left us far too early but he will NEVER be forgotten. He will always be loved.

Rocker.......2005-09-13

Despite the playful title, Highway to Hell is quite an intelligent read about Bon's storied career. Ample attention is given to Bon's pre-AC/DC career, with a lot of detail and insight into the Australian pop music scene of the 70's. I did feel that the AC/DC years could have been more thorough, but considering no one in the band cooperated with the author, I guess that's to be expected. A good read.

A Great Book For AC/DC Fans.......2005-09-04

A great portrait of words on the life of AC/DC frontman Bon Scott. The author has done a great job telling Bon's story by getting his facts from the people that knew Bon(family, friends, wife, girlfriends, people in the music business, former band mates, etc.)rather than just relying on interviews in magazine's or gossip spread by tabloids and people who just knew Bon briefly. This book would make a great movie about Rock and Roll.

A must read for any AC/DC - Bon Scott fan.

This is undoubtedly the definitive work on the armies of the Confederation of the Rhine during the Campaign of 1809. Jack Gill has masterfully told this story with verve, accuracy, wit, and a thorough knowledge of his subject.

Confronted with an invasion of his ally, Bavaria, in the spring of 1809 while still deeply involved in a campaign in Spain, Napoleon had to rely on a contingent of over 50,000 German troops from the Confederation of the Rhine to fight the Austrians. Launching their invasion without a declaration of war, the Austrians hoped to surprise and defeat the Grande Armee and Napoleon, thus reestablishing their preeminence in central Europe. What follows is a tale of high valor, professional skill, and dedication to duty of these loyal allies of Napoleon and it is a tale told with comsummate skill by the author.

Using primary source material in German from myriad sources, each country and army from the Confederation is covered from muzzle to buttplate. Organization, tactics, leadership, uniforms, and combat contributions are all covered thoroughly and this is not only the definitive work on the subject in English, but it is a superv reference work for further study.

This book has set the standard for any author hoping to write a book of this type or on this subject. In short, it is simple superb and it fills a definite void that existed in the literature of the period before its publication. It belongs on every Napoleonic bookshelf.

Outstanding Book!.......1999-05-06

I have read at least 30 books on the Campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars, and this is one of the best. Well researched and well written, it covers the participation of all the minor German states in the 1809 campaign, and includes actions which are almost always skipped over in books that concentrate on Napoleon and the French. A must for any one interested in the history of the German states in the early 1800's.

This is an old book and much of it sounds like Bill O'Reilly does enviromentalism. Is it right, I don't know. It doesn't match with current thought but it quotes lots of scientific evidence in support of its position.

Read it and decide for yourself. For what its worth, I didn't like it's hectoring tone.

Good Subtitle.......2007-02-12

Whatever happened to common sense is exactly what I wondered while reading this collection of shotgun blasts. The most telling thing about the book is that Rush Limbaugh thinks it's great. If you trust ol' Rush's scientific judgement, this is the one for you.

Dr. Ray had been a scientist at one time and it's too bad she gave it up. A former teaching zoologist, she nonetheless feels qualified to write about atmospheric mixing, stratospheric photochemistry, and the laws governing land use. It's sad when a scientist stoops to namecalling. Here's what she has to say about "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson, the environmental writer: "...an emotional, lyrical, and grossly unscientific and inaccurate book...." "...Rachael Carson's hysterics...."

If you're trying to sort out what's true in scientific issues from what isn't, and don't care about personal feuds, look elsewhere.

Common Sense.......2006-07-03

Dr. Ray combined with an excellent writer, Lou Guzzo, to produce a book which brings back the notion of environmental common sense. This book is insightful and full of credible sources to support their positions. Well done!

Dixy Lee Ray wrote Environmental Overkill as an antidote to the hysteria that was (and still is) being pushed by certain environmental groups and the media. She filled the book with facts and with reason. Sadly Ms. Ray did not live long enough to see how the scares she attacked in the book all crumbled and were quickly forgotten.

Changed my Life.......2003-11-24

I had this book as a required text in college about 10 years ago. At the time I was young and unfortunatly very much convinced that the government had solutions to our problems. This book made me realize how much I had been duped by the socialist propaganda of mainstream media. Don't get me wrong, I did not become an instant "right winger". In fact, it made me conclude that I did not know much and needed to start from scratch and throw out all my old assumptions. I decided to subscribe to The New Republic(left), The conservative Chronical(right) and Reason (Libertarian). After a year of reading these publications from cover to cover, I realized that the Libertarian philosphy actually held the answers our society desperatly needs to actually succeed in resolving issues like environmental neglect or abuse. My point is, it was this book that made me realize I had basically been brainwashed my whole life through the network news. SO it really holds a special place in my heart.
