I already own the extra small version of a photographic field guide to wildflowers but I kinda grew out of it. So this is my next book. I can't wait for the spring to come to actually use it in the woods. The book is organized by flower color, which IS a little confusing after using the systematically ordered book before (for example if some species in a genus have white and other have blue flowers, and the plant you found is not flowering yet, you have to check on two completely different pages). But luckily there is a good index at the back, and the species are referenced both by their English and their Latin names (especially suitable for us who have a mother tongue different than English).

I wasn't moved by Care Mooore's poetry the way I am by Maya Angelou and Lucille Clifton, but she's still got talent and she's still a hip young voice that might mature into an important one. Read her just to be well read.

Anyone who can't understand this book, isn't reading enough in general! This books shows obvious growth on the part of this progressive young writer. From "Princess," to the imagery of "ressurection," this book hits hard politically and poetically. Her heart is on her sleeve, but this is not a book of cliches or simple emotional rabbling. Her poetry if loaded with complex metaphors and is a book all young poets hoping to take their work more seriously on the page should read. I would recommend this book to all lovers of poetry unafraid of a what's going on in the head of black woman poet. The Alphabet Verses The Ghetto isn't simply about painting everything black as another reviewer suggested, it's about redefinition and survival. It's about taking on a language and winning.
I'm happy about all 208 pages of this collection. A must read!!

putting in work.......2004-04-21

Jessica Care moore's second collection is a difficult read. The imagery is difficult to absorb, the metaphors are difficult to grasp, and the pure emotion behind the words is sometimes difficult to withstand. Reading this collection requires the reader to put in real work, but the effort is well worth it. In this work, Care moore becomes, teacher, mother, wife, preacher, leader, guide, and conscience to the reader, all the while not caring a bit what anyone has to say about her message. She hits hard and suddenly, and though the untrained eye may have to read a few works over again to understand what just happened to them, the collection is a powerful reflection of someone with a strong sense of self and a strong sense of purpose. A solid work.

Honest, real and from the heart. Moore explores the world by allowing the world to understand her through poems about her experiences and observations. This book explores such issues as love and survival. "The Art of Noise" is a good poem with interesting imagery about issues around black relationships. "I am a work in Progress" is another good one that explores elements of inner city life. Worth trying.

Hello all! I am from India, residing in Singapore. I enjoy listening to blues. Being a big fan of BB, i couldn't resist this treasure when i came across it at the Borders bookstore.The book is great, with replicas of tickets etc. 1 hour cd with BB's interviews and 2 songs is a great treat. BB is an inspiration, having moved from cottonfields to become world's greatest blues singer. Just wait for the clouds, and read this with a cup of coffee when it starts to rain. When you finish with the accompanying cd, put in your own BB collection and read the book along. Lucille won't let you down. The thrill isn't gone afterall! 5 stars indeed.

A must read for blues fans..........2006-01-04

Though possibly a bit unlike adults my age, I am a bonafide blues lover and THE B. B. KING TREASURES: Photos, Mementos & Music from B. B. King's Collection is a remarkable look into the background and life of legendary blues singer B. B. King. In it he details his early childhood and growing up on a farm, to his young adult days, touring various parts of the country and his candid views on segregation and the Civil Rights era.

While the book itself is a wonderful collector's item and can be displayed proudly as a coffee table book, the best parts to me were: the included CD which has a collection of interviews with the singer, as well as two unreleased songs, the numerous pull-outs of old letters, photos, programs and posters, and the respect he shared with and bestowed upon others. THE B. B. KING TREASURES succinctly depicts the life and times of B. B. King, his thoughts on many issues, including race relations, and especially music. It is perfect for the blues lover in your life and a great tribute for B.B. King's 80th birthday celebration.

Treasures fit for fans of the King of the Blues.......2005-11-20

Those looking for a present for a blues lover (or themselves) could do far worse than purchasing an absolutely wonderful new coffee table book plus more devoted to the King of the blues. The B. B. King Treasures : Photos, Mementos & Music from B. B. King's Collection is by King, Dick Waterman and Charles Sawyer. Sawyer, who wrote the first book-length biography of King, The Arrival of B.B. King, contributes a concise biography from King's days growing up in Mississippi to his days as an ambassador for the music. The remainder of the book is filled with King's recollections as given to Dick Waterman who supplements these recollections of growing up, working on the farm, moving to memphis, touring and crossing over. There are not only some terrific photographs (many are very rare), but also some reproductions of memorabilia including his sharecropping account from 1940, mostly tickets, programs and posters for his shows, along with sheets shoqwing how much he was earning prior to Sid Seidenberg taking over King's management in the late sixties. You can see him from his WDIA days to receiving the musical equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Sweden with the King of Sweden handing the award to him. In addition there is a cd with King's verbal recollections and some unissued tracks. This is a multi-media feast for fans of one of the true legends of world music. Compiled in part to celebrate his 80th birthday, The B.B. King Treasures, is a treasure.

The beautifully designed and printed 160-page hardback also includes a one-hour audio CD with more than a dozen interviews and two previously unreleased songs, cut with a full band in 1962 and 1971.

We follow King through his childhood in Indianola, Mississippi, and then move on to Memphis and the first years of his career performing on WDIA radio. Kings' decades spent working the chitlin' circuit and later as a globe-trotting star are thoroughly documented, as is his current status as elder statesman of the blues. It's a highly visual journey with page after page of eye candy, as well as reproductions of posters, postcards, ledgers, contracts, concert programs, tour stickers, receipts, and even a vintage business card.

Dissapointing experience.......2003-08-08

This book is very shallow and i have a hard time seing how it can be "an analysis". It offers very little text but around 120 pages of B/W close-up photographs of old SMG's like the sten etc.

Save your money for something like Gabe Suarez book "the tactical shotgun" for tactics and applications of shotguns.

Actually addressed Tactics. Refreshing.......2001-06-14

While this book is now dated (16 years) it is the best out there. Gets to the point. The others sold by Paladin Press and Delta Press as well as the videos address beginning shotgun handling & are targeted for the newcomer. They do not live up to their titles combat/tactical/defensive shotgun. The video's from them and Gunsite are just as bad as the books and extremely overpriced.

While I take issue with Taylor's results from shooting slugs (I'm doing a lot better at 100 yds using a Ghost Ring Site) I will give credit for Taylor living up to his title. If you are a serious homeowner shotgun defender, a cop, or a miliary person headed for the ulitmate challenge...staying alive...get this book.

A significant chunk of the recent work on political parties in Congress begins with this book. Its going to be one of those classics that every political scientist eventually cites, and so its one that every political scientist shown probably own. The book review is a pretty good summary of the argument. The theory and the empirical studies are a bit loose, and the conclusions are overdrawn in places, but the idea is (was) sufficiently novel that it represents a serious innovation in contemporary thinking about political parties and congressional organization. Whatever you might think about the book's argument that parties are a legislative cartel, this theory is the foundation for what will surely become an enormous literature in political science.

Biofilters are a relatively inexpensive management method for biodegradable gas-phase contaminants, capable of meeting stringent air quality requirements. However, the nominally plug flow configuration of conventional unidirectional flow (UF) biofilters results in the microbial community having higher population densities and greater activity near the inlet. When transient loadings occur in conventional biofilters either the mass transfer capacity or the reaction capacity of the initial sections of the bed may be exceeded and contaminants move into the downstream sections where the microbial populations and reaction capacities are low and contaminant breakthrough may occur. Flow-directional-switching (FDS) operation incorporates the advantages believed to accrue from feast/famine operation of microbial processes and improved mass transfer characteristics of uniformly distributed biofilms. In this study, step function changes in toluene concentration were applied to UF and FDS laboratory reactors operated in parallel. Contaminant concentration was monitored at several points along the packed beds. FDS operation produced a more uniform (dispersed) distribution of biomass and microbial reaction capacity along the length of the packed bed without diminishing activity and removal capacity in the inlet section. Maximum mass removal rates in the FDS biofilter were approximately twice that of the conventional UF biofilter. In addition, FDS operation significantly improved biofilter response during an extended period of operation with intermittent feed and following a period of non-operation.
