Book Description
Here is the most detailed and informative guide to this fascinating region, from the Côte d'Azur and its seaside towns of St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice and Antibes, to the mountainous regions of Vaucluse, the Lubéron and Mont Ventoux. See the papal palaces and cathedrals massed inside Avignon's intact 14th-century walls. Or visit Nîmes, with its Amphitheater, built by the Romans, still the venue for festivals and spectacles. Experience the Camargue, paradise for birdwatchers - the only place outside of Africa where pink flamingos nest by the tens of thousands. The wild Camargue horses here are legendary. A few of the many attractions this guide explores: The places to stay and eat, including centuries-old castles, plush resorts, apartments and cottages to rent. The best shopping - from truffle and flower markets to antique fairs, food markets, clothing stores and chocolate shops. The celebrations - the Gypsy Pilgrimage at Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, countless festivals of wine, dance, theater, opera, even kite-flying. The grotto and ancient forest at Ste Baume, said to have sheltered Mary Magdalen in the last years of her life - after she escaped from the Holy Land in 40 AD. Arles, where Van Gogh lived and worked. The author shows you how to hike hidden trails where only locals walk, following in Van Gogh's footsteps.

A User Testimonial!.......2006-04-11
I've just returned from a trip to Antibes and Nice and I used this book as my guide. The recommendations were spot on; really terrific. This is a rare thing, a guide book that inspires and tempts you without making your head spin. All the detail you need is there but this book is so much more!
Just the Right Adventure.......2006-01-25
Not being the type to jump off bridges or hang glide over the treetops, I was a little worried about "Adventure Guide" in the book title, but it turns out that this guidebook features just the kind of soft adventures I enjoy: hiking, touring and poking into the interesting recesses of a country, followed by an evening of good food and wine. The author's biography says she's been visiting Provence for 20 years and it shows in her writing, which includes all the little insider tips that you'd expect from someone with her experience. With the practical information I've found in the "Adventure" guide to Provence, it may take me the next 20 years to enjoy everything this book brings to light.
The best guide I've come across..........2005-11-06
What a great hands-on book. This is best guide to Provence and the Riviera I've come across. Her section on St. remy and Eygalieres is perfect. "Le Petit Bru" may have been the best meal I had...and a good value. This is the one to get before you leave.
Makes you want to get up and go there........2005-10-26
There are alot of tour books for this region, but this new one is really fun. There is lots of information on "out of the way" places and interesting festivals, all sorts of things which you wont find anywhere else. I love Provence, and this book will definately come with me the next time I go.
The information is presented clearly and is well written, so it's easy to use. Lots of nice pictures, too. I like this guide alot, and I hope to see more French guides from this writer.
A Beautiful Adventure.......2005-10-26
If you are interested in experiencing the gorgeous Cote D'Azur and Provence areas and not just enjoying the scenery from a tour bus or car, this is the book for you.
The book is filled with tips on out-of-the-way places, great hikes and bike rides and a lot of information on local color. There are thousands of travel books on southern France, but this one is great for the traveler with adventure in his soul.

Book Description
The topic of this book, graded algebra, has developed in the past decade to a vast subject with new applications in noncommutative geometry and physics. Classical aspects relating to group actions and gradings have been complemented by new insights stemming from Hopf algebra theory. Old and new methods are presented in full detail and in a self-contained way. Graduate students as well as researchers in algebra, geometry, will find in this book a useful toolbox. Exercises, with hints for solution, provide a direct link to recent research publications. The book is suitable for courses on Master level or textbook for seminars.

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive exposition of the use of set-theoretic methods in abelian group theory, module theory, and homological algebra, including applications to Whitehead's Problem, the structure of Ext and the existence of almost-free modules over non-perfect rings. This second edition is completely revised and udated to include major developments in the decade since the first edition. Among these are applications to cotorsion theories and covers, including a proof of the Flat Cover Conjecture, as well as the use of Shelah's pcf theory to constuct almost free groups. As with the first edition, the book is largely self-contained, and designed to be accessible to both graduate students and researchers in both algebra and logic. They will find there an introduction to powerful techniques which they may find useful in their own work.

Book Description
Phi-features, such as person, number, and gender, present a rare opportunity for syntacticians, morphologists and semanticists to collaborate on a research enterprise in which they all have an equal stake and which they all approach with data and insights from their own fields. This volume is the first to attempt to bring together these different strands and styles of research. It presents the core questions, major results, and new directions of this emergent area of linguistic theory and shows how Phi Theory casts light on the nature of interfaces and the structure of the grammar. The book will interest scholars and students of all aspects of linguistic theory at graduate level and above.

The Emperor of the Sorcerers (Clay Sanskrit Library) Volume 2
ASIN: 0814731635
Release Date: 2005-02-01 |
Book Description
"The books line up on my shelf like bright Bodhisattvas ready to take tough questions or keep quiet company. They stake out a vast territory, with works from two millennia in multiple genres: aphorism, lyric, epic, theater, and romance."
Willis G. Regier, The Chronicle Review
"No effort has been spared to make these little volumes as attractive as possible to readers: the paper is of high quality, the typesetting immaculate. The founders of the series are John and Jennifer Clay, and Sanskritists can only thank them for an initiative intended to make the classics of an ancient Indian language accessible to a modern international audience."
The Times Higher Education Supplement
"The
Clay Sanskrit Library represents one of the most admirable publishing projects now afoot. . . . Anyone who loves the look and feel and heft of books will delight in these elegant little volumes."
New Criterion
"Published in the geek-chic format."
BookForum
"Very few collections of Sanskrit deep enough for research are housed anywhere in North America. Now, twenty-five hundred years after the death of Shakyamuni Buddha, the ambitious Clay Sanskrit Library may remedy this state of affairs."
Tricycle
Now an ambitious new publishing project, the
Clay Sanskrit Library brings together leading Sanskrit translators and scholars of Indology from around the world to celebrate in translating the beauty and range of classical Sanskrit literature. . . . Published as smart green hardbacks that are small enough to fit into a jeans pocket, the volumes are meant to satisfy both the scholar and the lay reader. Each volume has a transliteration of the original Sanskrit text on the left-hand page and an English translation on the right, as also a helpful introduction and notes. Alongside definitive translations of the great Indian epics 30 or so volumes will be devoted to the Maha·bhárat itself
Clay Sanskrit Library makes available to the English-speaking reader many other delights: The earthy verse of Bhartrihari, the pungent satire of Jayanta Bhatta and the roving narratives of Dandin, among others. All these writers belong properly not just to Indian literature, but to world literature.
LiveMint
The
Clay Sanskrit Library has recently set out to change the scene by making available well-translated dual-language (English and Sanskrit) editions of popular Sanskritic texts for the public.
Namarupa
By any measure the Ramáyana of Valmiki is one of the great epic poems of world literature. . . . Now the New York University Press is republishing the translations, without notes and with minimal introductions, in more accessible and less expensive editions, as part of the
Clay Sanskrit Library. So far the translators have been eminently successful.
The New York Sun [Refers to the nine volumes of the Ramáyana]
Rama, the crown prince of the City of Ayodhya, is a model son and warrior. He is sent by his father the king to rescue a sage from persecution by demons, but must first kill a fearsome ogress. That done, he drives out the demons, restores peace, and attends a tournament in the neighboring city of Mithila; here he bends the bow that no other warrior can handle, winning the prize and the hand of Sita, the princess of Mithila.
Valmíki's Ramáyana is one of the two great national epics of India, the source revered throughout South Asia as the original account of the career of Rama, ideal man and incarnation of the great god Vishnu. The first book, "Boyhood," introduces the young hero Rama and sets the scene for the adventures ahead. It begins with a fascinating excursus on the origins and function of poetry itself.

Book Description
Bruce Barton's 1925 effort to reconfigure Jesus for the Roaring Twenties turned into one of the great best-sellers of the century. No Puritan or Prohibitionist, here was Christ as the world's first advertising man, a great business executive who picked up twelve men from the bottom ranks of business and forged them into an organization that conquered the world. In his Introduction, Richard M. Fried explores the book's rich insights into the culture of the 1920s.
Customer Reviews:
Consider reading the pre-Y2K version.......2007-08-15
I've read my very old copy of this book so many times that I decided to order a new copy. But looking at the reviews on this site, I was really puzzled and disappointed by the reviews comparing Jesus to a businessman and insurance salesman, and so much emphasis on business. I had never gotten that message from the text.
Then I saw the subtitle on the year 2000 printing of the book -"The Classic Account of Jesus as Business Entrepreneur." Huh? The original book doesn't have a subtitle. Even the chapter headings have been changed: Retitled from "The Leader" to "The Executive"; from "His Work and Words" to "His Advertisements"; from "His Way in Our World" to "The Founder of Modern Business." From the exerpt on the website, it looks like the text is the same, but the context has been changed. The publishers have reframed it. sad to say.
The original book describes the Jesus of the Bible as a man. An extraordinary man. A man people would follow. A man people would die for. And Barton's book tells us why.
Barton's book will enrich your life -- maybe even change it. And if you're a worshipper, your prayers and songs will take on new meaning.
I give the 5-star rating to Barton's original book, and a 1 to whoever decided to reframe it for the watercooler.
Barton is genius.......2006-07-05
This book was ingenius. The perspective from which Barton wrote was original and refreshingly delightful. I'd recommend it to everyone.
Finally, The Truth About Jesus's Idea Of Wealth Is Revealed.......2006-01-23
One of the greatest falsehoods about the message of Jesus has been exposed..He was not against wealth, he was against the worship of wealth...Certainly Joesph of Aramthenia (please forgive the spelling) and Nicodemus were men of great wealth and were loved and accepted by Jesus.
When he told the rich young man to sell all that he had and said that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven he was talking about possessions of ego and self importance..
Look at those who God chose to carry his message..Abraham, David, Soloman, Jacob, etc..none of them would have qualified for the food stamp program.
Finally, revealing the 'Jesus Business Plan', Barton points out that to be successful in business, love, and life..One must be a SERVANT..Ford 'served' us with transportation, Edison with light, Bell with communication, Disney with fantasy..Choose what you want to 'recieve' and then GIVE IT AWAY..A lesson for the ages.
Astonishing this chestnut is still around.......2005-04-11
The notion that Jesus' values were those of corporate America and his "charisma" of the sort that makes insurance salemen is so laughably a fantasy that I hope the other reviews are meant as jokes. Portraying Jesus as a "booster," a kind of successful Willy Loman, is about as ludicrous as picturing Mother Teresa as a fashion model and Gandhi as a comic book superhero. The Jesus of the New Testament would have observed the conspicuous consumption of corporate America, the cultural gluttony of the Western World, with sadness and disgust.
Jesus may be the ultimate Rorschach. We look at him: Nazis see a blue-eyed Aryan beset by Jews and look for somebody to beat up; gays see their lifestyle affirmed in the friendhip with John; chickenhawk warriors somehow see endorsement of the hateful causes they want others to die for; the tenderhearted and compassionate see him surrounded by happy children; feminists see the women by his side; lying hypocrites see... God knows what.
The hardest thing for humans to do is to comprehend that their heroes are not just big versions of themselves. A hero should be something to push against, not a self-endorsement. Jesus told the rich to give away their money. He told his followers not to gather up treasures in the world. He said wealth is a burden that will keep the rich out of Heaven. He scourged the moneylenders. He was a freeloader. He is bad for business.
Today, as the most affluent country on the planet, we hear the Christian message as unhappily as the young wealthy Hebrew who asked Jesus what he must do to be saved. His answer was NOT "get an MBA." But instead of walking away, we invent new myths of a Jesus more suitable, one able to see past his silly prejudice against money grubbers, to see that it is possible to be rich and really nice.
Barton's book is a bizarre anachronism; a last survivor of the Babbitt years of pious Philistinism and Pharisaic self-approval just before the Depression turned our complacent cultural narcissism upside down. How sad, that it's coming back into fashion. Read Jim Wallis' *God's Politics* for a theology less absorbed with self-justification.
A must read for everyone........2004-11-09
A truely inspired masterpiece. The life of Jesus has been beaten down by modern preaching and evangelists who portray him as a woe-is-me, suck-up-the-pain cuz I have to, pitiful man. Where in reality he must have been a most charismatic man full of warmth, laughter, and life - the kind every one wants to be around. The author makes his points powerfully forever changing the way I look at Jesus and his life. This book is a must read. I am so glad I came across the book. I promise you will not be disappointed. It is interesting, enlightening, well written, and inspirational; and it is short and easy to read. Have I convinced you yet?

Book Description
In 1890 Cecil Rhodes stated he would start a movement that would in 100 years bring in a world government in which there would be no war and only one language. One hundred years later in 1990, President Bush announced the arrival of the New World Order. Since early this century Rhodes Scholars have been involved with the CFR, United Nations, International Monetary Fund, international banking, Congress, and federal administrations since Woodrow Wilson. President Clinton, a Rhodes Scholar, has appointed at least twenty-two Rhodes Scholars to high positions in his administration. Dr. Dennis Cuddy reveals the source of the conspiracy that has been dedicated to erasing nationalism and replacing it with a world government.

Needed Documentation Missing , Islamofascism ignored .......2006-07-28
This is an interesting compilation of information, but the documentation for what is included in here is, to put it mildly, weak. Just how does the author know that such and such a person said such a thing? What newspaper, what public speech, what page of what book, what article, who overheard who, who related it to who, that it became public knowledge? The documented references that are made are still not as well documented as one would expect from a Ph. D. on such a subject if he really believes so passionately in it. If the documentation in here is real, and it really leads to the conclusions of a global conspiracy, then the lack of documentation is critical.
An updated book including how it was possible for Bush II to get elected, twice, over the objections of the elitists the author quotes as running the world, would be very interesting.
The other part is that since Radical Islamofascists are going to demographically overrun Russia, all of Western Europe including England, Canada, and Australia early in the 2nd half of this century, and that the USA may very well become AMERABIA before the end of this century due to multiculturist liberals, how did Cecil Rhodes and his great plan for a Liberal European (English culture based) rule of the world miss the fact, for the evidence was available in 1999 when this book was written and published, that the conquest of Western Civilization by Radical Islam was probably going to come true before 2100?
This book is interesting, but without the shortcomings listed above rectified, it will remain a fringe book for conspiracy experts.
Excellent Reference.......2006-06-02
This book would almost be better titled, "Quotes About Conspiracy Theories From People in High Places." It is an excellent reference book for anyone wanting to back up their claims for a "shadowy cabal," as it quotes the very men and organization who are implicated, saying just as much. As an example:
[December 15, 1922]"The CFR's Journal, Foreign Affairs, publishes an article...in which it states:
'Obviously there is going to be no peace or prosperity for mankind as long as (the earth) remains divided into 50 or 60 independent states...until some kind of international system is created which will put an end to the diplomatic struggles...'"
The book goes to show that whether you think there is a conspiracy under foot or not is really irrelevant given the fact that the people who have all the power DO believe in "conspiracy theories". I highly recommend this book. I would compliment it with Antony Sutton's "America's Secret Establishment" and Stan Monteith's "Brotherhood of Darkness" to get a full picture. Cuddy focuses on Cecil Rhodes, while Sutton focuses on Skull and Bones and the hegelian dialectic. As Dr. Monteith puts forward in his book, the true answer is a spiritual composite of all these groups combined. Excellent information all around though.
the new world order in their own words.......2004-06-04
I am the author of this book and find remarks by critics such as the one from Delray Beach to be amusingly selective. His review contains "oooh, conspiracy" putdown remarks, but he omits one of the conspirator's remarks 40 years into the plan admitting what they were up to. Furthermore, he omits Rhodes Scholar Strobe Talbott's criticism of national sovereignty while saying "the case for world government is clinched." And he omits Rhodes Scholar Bill Clinton's compliment to the World Federalist Association for giving Strobe an award for writing what he did, etc., etc. I would suggest that "oooh, conspiracy" putdowns are no substitute for the many documented quotes in the book.
For 'Conspiracy Nuts' Only.......2002-04-24
As one reviewer pointed out, this isn't really a book. It is presented as a chronology with excerpts from newspaper articles, books, etc. that show the history of the globalist movement.
The typical people are on the scene, international bankers, the Round Table people or 'the Group', Skull and Bonesmen, the Council on Foreign Relations, with the numerous quotes from Tragedy and Hope.
The methods behind the New World Order aren't clearly spelled out, so other books would be much better to get. However, a self-confessed conspiracy nut could find some interesting leads for research. For example, apparently the Washington Post ran an article on Carrol Quigley shortly before his death entitled, "The professor who knew too much." I was unaware of this and would like to obtain a copy.
If you are willing to pay the price to get a handful of items like that, get the book, otherwise read a book by Antony Sutton or Carrol Quigley.
George Bush wishes he never said it........2002-03-06
Rhodes scholars appoint other Rhodes scholars?
Oooooh. Conspiracy.
How about "highly educated Western leaders and industrialists
are often educated as Rhodes scholars at Oxford"?
And then "highly educated people appoint other highly educated
people who are like them"?
Poof. No conspiracy at all.
So George Bush said "we are entering a new world order"....
Ooooh. Conspiracy.
I bet George Bush wishes he had said, "we are entering a new
geopolitical framework, with the US being the only superpower.
But with developing nations rapidly accquiring ( and how I hate
this phrase ) weapons of mass destruction. We are living in
uncertain times".
Not as snappy as NWO ( as wrestling fans will testify ), but if
he had amplified his statement like this, you see no conspiracy
again.
As to what Rhodes himself said, Jesus, Mary and Joseph, that was
at the height of the British Empire - clearly he thought that
Britain was going to stamp English all over the world and be
possibly the dominant world power ( as the US is now ). So, how
wrong he was!
So again, no conspiracy, just imperialist rhetoric and nothing
more.
And these people are all "Rhodes scholars"? Well, I am afraid
that that is called "history" - something many Americans lack a
perpective of. The scholarships were started by Rhodes, they
still bear his name. That does not mean in any way that they
also bear or teach or promote his imperial asperations.
There is no "global conspiracy", there is nothing sinister going
on. It's just the rich and the powerful sticking together as
they have always done.

Time Out Patagonia (Time Out Guides)
ASIN: 1559635185 |
Book Description
Patagonia. The name connotes the exotic and a distance that seems nearly mythical. Tucked toward the toe of South America, this largely unsettled landscape is among the most varied and breathtaking in the world-aching in its beauty as it sweeps from the Andes through broad, arid steppes to pristine beaches and down to a famously violent sea. It is also home to a vast array of rare wildlife as diverse and fascinating as the region itself.
Act III in Patagonia is the first book to take an in-depth look at wildlife and human interaction in this spectacular area of the world. Written by William Conway, former president of the Wildlife Conservation Society, the book is unique in its concentration on the long Patagonian shoreline--populated by colorful cormorants, penguins, elephant seals, dolphins, sea lions, and numerous species of whale--and an increasing number of human beings.
Threatened by overfishing, invasive species, artificially abundant predators, and overgrazing, the Southern Cone of Patagonia is now the scene of a little-known conservation drama distinguished by the efforts of a dedicated group of local and foreign scientists determined to save one of the Earth's least-inhabited places. From tracking elephant seals in the Atlantic to following flamingos in the Andes, Act III in Patagonia takes readers to the sites where real-life field science is taking place. It further illuminates the ecology of the region through a history that reaches from the time of the Tehuelche Indians known by Magellan, Drake, and Darwin to the present.
