Unfortunate copy........2006-03-11

R D Lawrence is a great writer. I have read many of his books, however, this particular copy of The Place in the Forest is like someone copied his work and that someone made many typos and submitted it to the publisher. Never would R D Lawrence have made the errors. If you can overlook the typos, especially in the first 60 pages you will enjoy the book. The content of the book is very interesting reading. I wonder if R D Lawrence has actually read this particular copy. I hope not.

Book was helpful, but maps are so-so.......2007-09-28

This small guide was very helpful to a recent short trip to Athens. The recommendations of where to visit and day-by-day tours were good. It was nice that the guide was small and fit in my back pocket. However, the maps leave something to be desired. You might want to purchase additional Athens maps to go along with the book, or ask your hotel for some.

My wife and i were in athens for 3 days and this little book was always in my pocket. it was very useful for us the entire trip. although some of the restaurant suggestions i'd question that's to be expected. the rest of the information was excellent. i found myself referring to the maps and area descriptions constantly. well worth the investment.

Nice overview of Athens' attractions.......2006-08-20

The book has good maps in addition to narrative. We used the "Eating" section and "Directory" most heavily, since we are not shoppers and had arranged a hotel through alternative means. We also used the Eyewitness "Top 10" guide and "Streetwise Athens" map, which provide additional perspectives.

It's out of date........2006-07-02

I guess I should have known that a 2004 guide to Athens is out of date in 2006. It hasn't been updated to reflect the fact that the metro now connects to the airport, and its Acropolis ticket info. is misleading--the Acropolis ticket is good for one visit only, not for four days. The free guide to Athens published by the Ministry of Tourism ("Wonderful Greece") has much better walking tours.

I'm planning to go to Greece for 2 weeks in early June. What were the other 4 maps that you took and how would you rate them? I'm taking a Lonely Planet Guide and Berlitz Phrase Book with me. Plus will try to pick up a few phrases with the Pimsleur language CD.

lots better, but works for downtown.......2006-04-18

I took five maps with me on a two-week trip to athens. This one rated 5th. If one is only going to be in the Plaka area, this one is OK. Lonely Planet Guide for Athens is superb. The map much less so. It is laminated so durability helped. detail not so great. some metro stations erroneously marked. useful streets not marked. Better than nothing, but there are better. Perhaps a new edition will improve (my copy was dated 2002 - sadly out of date.)

Beating Hearts was a boring heart in places.......2007-07-18

I have typically enjoyed Jenkins' other books, but I wasn't drawn into this book as much as the others. It seemed like several issues weren't developed enough--the little sister longing for her dad, the single mom as a struggling writer trying to live her dream, and a boy dealing with his supposed love for his girlfriend. The only thing that was really developed was the sex. Beating Hearts portrayed the sex-obsessed teenage boy quite well. I did enjoy the almost concrete poetry of the ghost. It's an okay read, but I think others will be disappointed as well.

When his mother forces him to move with her to a new house, Evan Calhoun doesn't expect much. Sure, he'll have to move all his stuff, but he'll still go to the same school and have the same friends.

Little does he know that there's a spirit occupying his new room, a spirit who will mistake him for her dead lover and change his life forever.

BEATING HEART was really interesting, and my favorite part was the way the story is told. The point of view alternates between Evan and the ghost, and the ghost speaks in beautiful verse fragments that definitely make the book worth reading.

Cora is dead, longing after her love for a hundred years. Evan is alive and struggling with his girlfriend Carrie who is becoming needy and clingy. Together, but separately, they learn the difference between love and sex.
The poetry is beautiful. The whole story just touched me. I would recommend it to anyone.

A Ghost Story with a Contemporary Twist.......2006-01-06

A. M. Jenkins is well known for her accurate and sympathetic portrayals of teenaged boys. Here she mixes things up by alternating with the broken yet poetic voice of the ghost of a young girl from a hundred years before. The life of the boy and the memories of the ghost intersect in a literally shattering way. While this seems like Cora, the ghost's story, there is so much revealed through the seemingly distant third-person telling of the boy's story. You will want to read it over again immediately to savor the clues and details the author so skillfully weaves into her unusual narrative.

well, to start off this is a gr-8 book. It kinda shows the real life of a killer b/c they say they aren't crazy but they really are. I really liked this book and it's a good one. But it more for like older people like teens. It's kinda gruesome in some ways. But it's very sespensful. So i really like it.

The tale tell heart is a very well written story. It is very decribtive. Thou the most scary part came when the narrator was nervous of how he heard the heart beat. I would recomend it
