Very useful manual for coastal wetland plants:.......1997-12-02
Sections include:
-Coastal Wetland Ecology: A General Overview (different tidal wetland habitats, their description and characteristics, & typical species of each)
-Identification of Coastal Wetland Plants (keyed system, easy to use diagnostic keys)
-WETLAND PLANT DESCRIPTIONS and ILLUSTRATIONS (this is over half the book, organized by environment: Each entry with name, common and scientific names, family, full description, habitat, range, similar species, and very accurate diagram drawings by Abigail Rorer. Over 150 species covered).
-Places to Observe Coastal Wetlands, with maps
-Sources of Other Information, References, Glossary, and Index.
Should the author ever desire to revise or write another edition, I hope he doesn't change much, as it is good, but he might consider adding a few key upland plants which grow in extreme proximity to coastal wetland plants; these might be American Beach Grass (Ammophila brevigulata), Beachpeas (Lathyrus maritimus), Seaside Rose (Rosa), Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica), Bayberry (Myrica pensylvanica), Sea Celery (Ligusticum scoticum), Common Sow Thistle or Beach Lettuce (Sondus oleraceae) - but these are easily learned on their own.
This is an excellent, very well written reference manual, useful to environmental consultants, wetland delineators, and botanists. Get a plastic book cover to protect it, and use it in the field (or salt-marsh, as the case may be). This may be the best text on this particular subject. -DMM

Book Description
Everyone at Tree Hill High knows that Brooke Davis is popular, pretty, and can have any boy she wants. What they don't know is that sometimes she is insecure and lonely, and the only boy she really wants is the one who broke her heart: Lucas Scott.
Learn what this year is like for Brooke when the parties end. Follow her as she struggles with the breakdown of her parents’ marriage, petty jealousies that threaten to tear her and best friend Peyton apart, heartache as she gets closer to Lucas and stops denying her real feelings, and triumph when she surprises everyone, including herself, with a bid for the class presidency.
See the whole OTH gang — Haley, Nathan, Peyton, Mouth, Tim, and the new kids on the block, Felix and Anna — but see them through Brooke’s eyes: sometimes funny and sometimes sad, but above all, always true.

A Book So True.......2007-03-08
I am not the typical person who watches ONE TREE HILL and definately not the type of guy who would pick up a book based on the series. After all, I'm straight. And a guy.
But last year I was on a trip and found this book in my hotel room. Having run out of everything else I gave it a try--and was quite surprised.
Anna Lotto has taken teenage "types" and turned them into people. People with real problems, with real dreams and real love to give. As we read about the new kid who comes to school and steals her heart by playfully teasing her, I couldn't help but think back to my own days in High School and how much things have changed, and at the same time how little.
Ms. Lotto knows how to keep the melodrama to the minimum and keeps offering the reader little presents with each turn of the page.
A real treat.
Not What I Expected........2007-01-11
When I got this book I was excited to read it because I thought I was going to get a good book with Brooke's POV on the events of Season 2 and extra things about her. After reading it I was very disappointed because they just changed not only the events but the characters weren't even the same as they are on the show. It's like the author re-wrote the whole season and characters. First off the book was very anti-Haley. All you read about her was her secretly meeting and flirting with Chris, going behind Nathan's back and she never made it to formal because she was with Chris, and Brooke basically insulted her through the whole book and thought she was annoying. When in the show they were somewhat friends. Not only that but when she left to go on the tour she left a letter to Nathan that made it sound like she left to run off with Chris. Then the whole Felix thing. They painted him to be a saint. It was like I was being introduced to a whole other character, instead of the one we met on the show. Then there were certain events that were just completely changed. The only fun part to read was the end when Brooke and Lucas got together, it was the author's own way of getting them together unlike waiting like the show did. It was just disappointing to me. If you're going to write using events that happened on the show stay true to how they happened. Because if your going to completely change the history of a season you should have just come up with your own fictional events or make it better, not destroy it. Because all through the book all I thought was "That's not how it happened.", "Brooke and Haley were good friends on the show and now Brooke hated her all along?", "Haley never did that.", "That's not the way Felix was.", it was just annoying. I spent more time complaing than enjoying the book. It's a good item to have if you are a hardcore One Tree Hill fan and collect all things OTH like I do, but if you aren't I wouldn't bother.
Amazing.......2006-07-04
I am a huge fan of One Tree Hill and watch it every week. This book is by far the best One Tree Hill book. It shows all of Brooke's feeling and emotions and they writing is really great. I am a huge fan of the Brooke/Lucas relationship and of Brooke. Now if you like the Lucas/Peyton relationship or just don't like Brooke then this probably isn't the book for you. The book is mostly based around Brooke recovering from the heartache that the whole Brooke/Lucas/Peyton love triangle caused her. It most shows Brooke's relationship with Lucas,Peyton, and her parents...which is a good thing that we get to read something about her parents cause they aren't involved in the show that much. Overall this is a great book and once you pick it up you won't be able to put it down.
i LOVE this book!.......2006-05-13
This book was great! I loved how they show Brookes thoughts and feelings. It has great detail. I could read this book agian and agian!

Book Description
Clathrochelates are compounds which contain a metal ion encapsulated within a three dimensional cage of macrobicyclic ligand atoms. Within this cage the metal has unique properties and is to a great extent isolated from environmental factors. Such complexes are suitable as models of the most essential biological systems, membrane transport, electron carriers, highly selective and sensitive analytical reagents, catalysts for photochemical and redox processes, cation and anion receptors, etc. The aim of this monograph is to generalize and analyze experimental and theoretical data on clathrochelates in order to promote further research in this promising field of chemistry.
Chapter 1 gives general concepts of complexes with encapsulated metal ions, discusses basic specific features of these compounds, considers and characterizes the main types of compounds with encapsulated metal ions and the main classes of clathrochelates, and includes the current nomenclature. Chapter 2 deals with the pathways of clathrochelate synthesis and the general procedures for the synthesis of macrobicyclic tris-dioximates, phosphorus-containing tris-diiminates, sepulchrates, sarcophagi-nates, and polyene and other types of clathrochelate complexes. Chapter 3 concerns studies of the electronic and spatial structure of clathrochelate complexes. In Chapter 4, the kinetics and mechanism of synthesis and decomposition reactions of macrobicyclic tris-dioximates, sarcophaginates, and sepulchrates in solution and gas phases are discussed. Chapter 5 considers the electrochemical, photochemical, and some other characteristics of clathrochelates and their applications associated with these characteristics. Finally, the practical applications of the unique properties of clathrochelates and perspectives on the synthesis of new clathrochelates are described in Chapters 6 and 7, respectively.

Book Description
Questo volume è dedicato all’artista Armando Pizzinato. ‘Donald’ Coxeter.

Customer Reviews:
Could not put it down. Amazing stories after stories........2007-09-28
Could not put it down. Amazing stories after stories. However, book is from the dad's perspective, which I knew to begin with.
Sincere Reflection, insights into parenthood and family........2007-07-09
This is a book about Mike Agassi and his family. Mike looks back at his past and how he produced a star tennis player. Mike, is apologetic at times, and proud in others, revealing his true nature. I enjoyed Mike's character in the Agassi story and highly recommend this book for anyone interested in raising a family, as this book is more than just a book about raising tennis stars. The book offers many good insights into parenthood and family.
Dissatisfied.......2005-10-11
I didn't really like the book because there was not enough about Andre really. It was 95% about his father. I guess I was mislead by the title.
Authentic and insightful.......2005-04-10
This is a great book for Agassi fans who want an inside scoop on Andre's life. Mike is a very tough guy and tells it the way he sees it. They have been through a lot. For me, this book provides justification for the admiration I have developed for Andre over the years of watching him play and following his story. The book is a beautiful tale of determination, character, soul, and ultimately, family. It is a quick read, thoroughly enjoyable, and I appreciate Mike's efforts in making it available.
More than a good biography . . . .......2005-01-09
Being a fan of Andre Agassi, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It's a bag of mixed candies - Mike's biography, real life drama of an immigrant family, story behind Andre's "rise, fall and rise" .. and more.
If you're a tennis fan, buy this book.
Thanks to Dominic Cobello, Kate Welsh, and Mr. Agassi.

Book Description
Aircrew on a bomber in World War II experienced a cold, tiring and perilous existence. The RAF flew at night, when the human spirit is at its lowest ebb and for many it did not seem prudent to think further ahead than the target, and then hope for a safe return. Daytime raids brought the fear of defending fighters preying on the massed formations of heavily laden aircraft as they struggled over enemy territory. The ground crew saw their aircraft heave themselves into the air and their imagination filled the silent hours until they counted in the returning aircraft and saw the ravages of the enemy defences and the hazards of foul weather. This is their story.
Book Description
Much ink has been spilled in recent years about the Middle East. At the same time, no other region has been as misunderstood, nor framed in so many clichés and mistakenly held beliefs. In this much-needed and enlightening book, Fred Halliday debunks one hundred of the most commonly misconstrued "facts" concerning the Middle East--in the political, cultural, social, and historical spheres. In a straightforward and simple way that illuminates the issues without compromising their underlying complexities he gets to the core of each matter. The Israel-Palestine crisis, the Iran-Iraq war, the U.S.-led Gulf invasions, the Afghan-Soviet conflict, and other significant milestones in modern Middle East history come under scrutiny here, with conclusions that will surprise and enlighten many for going so persuasively against the grain of commonly held (mis)perceptions.
A FEW MYTHS FROM 100 MYTHS ABOUT THE MIDDLE EAST:
Â¥The Arabs are a desert people.
Â¥There is today one Arabic language, spoken from Iraq in the east to Morocco in the west.
Â¥Oil has been and may become even more of a source of conflict in the modern Middle East.
Â¥Islam does not allow for a separation of religion and politics.
Â¥Palestinian nationalism is a creation of Arab states and manipulated by them to put pressure on Israel.
Â¥Israel is not a colonial or settler state.
Â¥Islam forbids alcohol.
Â¥For Muslim women, it is compulsory to wear a headscarf or veil.
Customer Reviews:
Exceptionally good treatment of a complex region.......2006-08-31
I have to admit that when I picked this book up, I was skeptical. However, I was soon blown away by the knowledge and wisdom contained in this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Islam or the Middle East. I particularly liked the discussion of Israel, because it is very balanced and historically accurate. The depiction of the Iraq war (2002) is spot-on: the U.S. was not after oil, and not against Saddam per se, but wanted to "reestablish control of the region". I think that is accurate. The book makes some great points, such as, ruling "cleptocracies" in the Mid-East use the Israel-Palestinian conflict to deflect criticism away from themselves. I also liked the assertion that Arabs have a great sense of humor (whereas we think of them as "grim" and "lacking in humor"). This jives with the Arabs I knew when I went to university in Germany: they were without exception, warm, humorous people. The book will surely disappoint extremists, but then again, reality tends to do that.
Some Myths are destructable and others debatable.......2006-05-27
Throughout his book Mr. Halliday writes that the states in the Middle East are like states everywhere else and each one has its individual history just as other countries do all over the world. But then on page 82 he writes: "Indeed it is debatable whether the main narrative of modern Middle Eastern history is that of states at all." Which is it? Is not the Middle East at least a little different and special like Japan is a little different and special?
Another point the author makes again and again is that in the Middle East it is Myth that ancient history is that important -- what counts is recent history (events within living memory). But many other students of the Middle East report that many people there remember The Crusades as if they occured yesterday. How can a memory like that not affect current events?
I gave this work four stars because the author had the facts to score many direct hits on numerous Myths, but I subtracted one star because he was much too concise for a professor
Too Short and Miss-information.......2006-05-02
Mr Halliday states that in 89 Islam does not forbid the consumption of alcohol and for examples he give name of writers and poets who enjoyed their drink, and early verses that did not prohibit alcohol consumption. The reality, the alcohol prohibition was gradual in Islam. First it was permitted than it was prohibited while going to pray. Finally, it was prohibited. The Quran states that alcohol and gambling evil vices that should be avoided.
If Ms. Halliday cannot this point accurately which is common knowledge, I cannot assume that anything that he says is accurate
Great title, shame about the content.......2006-03-17
I expected to learn a lot from this book. Sadly, it is written by an economist and the book is frequently... economical with the truth.
Halliday's myth 27 is that "The US, backed by the UK, invaded and occupied Iraq in 2003 to gain control of Iraqi oil."
The author proceeds to 'debunk' this 'myth' by reasoning that if oil is what Washington wanted it could simply have struck a deal with Saddam Hussein. Thankfully since then, some polititians have been a bit more honest. George Bush recently confessed that the US is 'addicted to oil' and few will have missed Bremner & Co's post invasion haste to privatise Iraq's national assets (ie. Iraq's oil industry).
The West's violent addiction to cheap Middle Eastern oil clearly is NO MYTH. So Halliday's decision to gloss over this with 100 words begs the question - how far is the author's intention to reveal the truth about the Middle East and how far to conceal the truth about us?
Great title. Shame about the content.
Great Book.......2006-03-05
One of the best book of alll times. I think all Americans should read this book for better understanding of the eastern culture and religon. Thank you Fred.

Nice pictorial reference.......2000-09-06
This book's strength is its pictures - realistic representations of dry California landscape plants. I would use it as a "brainstorm" book for getting ideas on which species to use in a particular landscape. The notations for each species are also helpful. Definitely one for the library.
