Book Description
Louie Banks has it made.
He's got a starting spot on the football team, good friends, and a smart, beautiful girlfriend who loves him as much as he loves her.
Early in the fall, he sees all his ideas of fair play go up in smoke; by spring, what he cares about most has been destroyed. How can Louie keep going when he's lost everything?
Customer Reviews:
Football Morality.......2007-02-23
Louis Banks is a football player who doesn't like his coach. His coach is really nasty and seems to take pleasure in verbally abusing his players. Louis is willing to deal with the abuse, though, in order to get to play. Then one day the coach tells him and the rest of the team to do something unsportsmanlike--to physically hurt a member of another team in order to keep him out of the rest of the game and the rest of the seasn, if possible. Louis doesn't like that idea at all, and he ends up off of the football team, choosing to do the moral thing rather than what the coach wanted.
Louis is okay being off of the team. His family is very supportive and so is his girlfriend, Becky. But then tragedy strikes Louis' life and he has to learn to deal with loss and pain and anger, without football as an outlet.
I liked Louis' parents. It was easy to see where a character like Louis wouls get his strength.
Great book by Chris Crutcher.......2005-12-17
This book Running Loose by Chris Crutcher was a very good book. It took a short while to get into it but once you did it was hard to put down. In the book, a kid named Louie Banks has everything going his way so far in his life. Chris does a great job of bringing Louie to life in this book. Louie is a senior attending Trout High School in Trout, Idaho. He has a beautiful girlfriend that no one expected him to have; even himself, and a great spot on the eight-man football team. During one of the games, Louie explodes because one of his teammates, Boomer Cowans, purposely hits a kid and puts him out of the game. He has to put up with Boomer, the big bully of the school, constantly after that. Louie gets into a big fight with the coach and gets kicked off of the team. Carter Sampson, the quarterback of the team and Louie's best friend, helps him through his problems. Things start to go downhill from there. Louie has other big problems to face but you will have to find out for yourself what they are. I really liked the fact that this was a very realistic book and could happen to anybody in high school. Louie goes through problems that anybody could face in the real world today. I really enjoyed this book.
Running Loose.......2005-03-16
Louie quits the football team and has to deal with it. Louie a senior in High School has it made. Until, everything goes bad. He quits the football team because of foul play. The coach of the football team wants the players to hurt the opposing team's best player (a black player). Louie one of the best players has some good friends and some bad friends. Becky his girlfriend is killed in a car wreck. Louie makes a real big deal about this. He even stands up at her funeral to say his opinions. He even goes further when he takes the plaque for her and throws it into the river. Louie must try to live on after everything he had is gone. He must survive his senior year with only one friend and many others making fun of him. See how Louie runs into conclusions at the end of this book.
I really liked this book. It would be better for older students and people that understand love and death. This was a great book in which it shows you how Louie can make it through harsh times. Always remember that life must go on even though everything is wrong, and that is what Louie does.
Running Loose.......2005-03-16
Louie Bank's life is great, but all that changes with a blink of an eye. Louie has great friends, a fabulous girlfriend and football. He has some bad things though like a messed up football coach and a bully that wants to beat him up. Louie has been training hard all off season of football. He just wants a starting position. He trains with his best friend Carter. Carter is a big, strong, and smart guy. Louie makes a starting position on the eight man football team with Carter at quarter back. There is one more guy for mention Boomer Cowans. He is the starting running back. Boomer is big and strong, but as dumb as a log. Louie has the most popular girlfriend in the whole school. Her name is Becky Sanders. She means the world to Louie. Then something happens that will turn his life around. Will Louie ever survive what happened?
This is a great book about a high school kid. This book is great for a few reasons. The first one is it keeps you guessing on what will happen next. The second reason is this could happen in real life. I recommend this book to anyone that likes football, a little romance and a lot of fun. This book scores my vote for the player of the game.
Running Loose Review.......2005-03-16
Louie Banks, a 17 year old, had everything going his way and life was perfect for him. He had a spot on the football team, a best friend named Carter, and Becky, his girlfriend. As he advances through is high school years, everything soon vanishes.
Louie trained all season for football with Carter and was more in shape than anyone on the team. After an incident with Boomer, his rival, and his coach, Louie was soon booted kicked off the team for showing his opinions. For the next year, everything seemed to be getting worse.
As Louie goes through his junior year in high school, he finds out that God doesn't control the way the world runs; people do. His friends and family support him the whole time, and he soon finds out that that is what you need to mature.
I love this book because it was about real problems and about what people are going to go through soon. Humans will face difficulties and road bumps along the way and this book shows how to step right over them. I would recommend this book to mature and middle aged readers. If you like books that are about sports and events that could really happen, then you should read this book.

Customer Reviews:
All for nothing........2000-10-12
Louie played football on his high school team where he had many confrontations with Boomer, a fellow player, and Coach Lednecky. For a game his coach told the players to purposely hurt a player on the other team which enraged Louie which was followed by him quitting the team. His girlfriend dies in a car accident causing nothing but chaos whenever Louie is around anyone else. This is similar to Chris Crutcher's Chinese Handcuffs and Ironman. Ironman is probably closer because they both involve an athlete who trains very hard to be the best that he can be. Chinese handcuffs is similar because it involves a young person dying and the way people dealt with it. The best quote that summarized the whole book was after Louie had quit the football team. "Hell of a lot of work down the drain." (Page 77) This is significant because the entire beginning of the book describes how hard that he worked to get on the football team. His attitude got worse. After his girlfriend died, he obviously couldn't stand the pressure. I liked the book because it had many good topics like all of Chris Crutcher's books have, but it kind of drags a little whenever Louie is trying to fix or deal with what he did wrong. It seems like at those times the author will get off subject.

Book Description
The study of the rise and fall of great mathematical ideas is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating branches of the history of science. It enables one to come into contact with and to participate in the world of ideas. Nowhere can we see more concretely the enormous spiritual energy which, initially still lacking clear contours, begs to be moulded and developed by mathematicians, than in Riemann (1826-1866). He perceived mathematics and physics as one discipline and thought of himself as both mathematician and physicist. His ideas as well as their contemporary descendants are the theme of this book.
Audience: This volume will be useful to those interested in such diverse fields as the mathematics of physics, algebra and number theory, topology and geometry, analysis, and the history of science.
Customer Reviews:
A very advanced level book, and the price is too high........2003-10-05
Before buying that book, I think one must take that very seriosly as it is not that kind of book like " music of the prime number " which you can browse a few pages of it before you sleep. The material in fact is even over graduate level
and is about advanced graduate to research level.
Also I think the price is too high!!! With USD 550 I think you can buy several same advanced level book and then still have money left to buy other books of differnet topics.
