Book Description
For more than three millennia Iran, or Persia as it was formerly known, was a melting pot of civilizations. Under Cyrus the Great, Persia was the center of the world's first empire, which stretched from the Mediterranean to modern-day Pakistan. Subsequent invasions by the Greeks, Arabs, Mongols and Turks have imbued the nation with an amazingly rich cultural and historical diversity. The Islamic Revolution in 1979 and the subsequent Iran-Iraq war reduced tourism to a trickle, but in the last decade the country's global significance within the modern world has resulted in increasing interest from intrepid travelers unafraid by the West's often "blinkered" appraisal of Iran and its people.
Travelers have begun rediscovering the attractions-both old and new-of a diverse land filled with beauty, and brimming with potential. An essential book both for visitors to Iran-whether on business or traveling for pleasure-or for those simply with a thirst to learn about and understand this fascinating country, it provides a fascinating illumination of both ancient Persia and modern Iran. Up-to-date travel facts and tips combine with chapters on each of the country's provinces, and sections on Islamic art, architecture and religion.
- Third edition
- Combines general information on well-known sites with up-to-date travel facts
- Literary excerpts from both Iranian and renowned Western writers add depth to an appreciation of Iranian culture
- 320 pages-an additional 56 pages of information compared with 2nd edition
- 62 color illustrations
- 10 detailed maps

Customer Reviews:
Alright.......2006-03-18
This book (I only read the third one) was okay, I thought it was great at the time but as some others said, There's no real 'end'. I'm not saying that it's bad their are some sequels, it's just that when you finish a book you want to have something to kind of think about. It was certainly entertaining, I finished it in a day although it's quiet short anyway. I did think that the authore got me to really appreciate Jonah's effort of dicensy. Nothing spectacular but it was fine for me.
Hmm.......2004-11-12
Ths series is a battle for me. I hate myself for wasting the hour it takes to read each " diary," but I find it so hard to stop. There are so many cliff hangers, it practicly forces you to buy the next book. On volume 4, I revolted, and refused to buy the new book...for a whole day.I found myself twitching, wondering
" Will Jonah and Molly get it on?"
" Will Jonah ever figure out who Northgirl is?"
" Will Jonah answer Sophie's call for help?"
and other world altering questions. See book four for answers!
All in all, I didn't really like this book, but if you've read book 1 and 2, you don't really have a choice...now do you.
run, jonah, run.......2003-04-17
I do not recommend this book. Reading it was almost a necessity due to the momentous nature of Vol. II. The story lacked activity. Jonah seemed to be reflecting on a few events for an awfully long time, while at the same time reflecting on his personality. I felt like I was stuck in his head for so long I couldn't think clearly. Some of the coincidental events in the book seemed too fantastic. The sex, drug use, and the drinking and driving scene were excessive. I would almost characterize the book as a trashy romance novel, for men, with no follow through. Jonah is not an age appropriate role model. In the previous books he is though. It seems as though the book was hastily written to keep the reader's mouth wet. The inconclusiveness of the book leads me to believe that the quality of the writing is being sacrificied simply to make fast money.
More from the world of Jonah Black.......2002-04-23
Jonah is back again this time he excited and nervous because he finally going to get to see Sophie in person and get to hang out with her.
Even though he knows he cares about Sophie he is still with Posie and cares about her alot. But as Jonah's bad luck kicks in he screws up with Posie and they end up breaking up.
Jonah is still trying to figure out who NorthGirl999 is. And he is also trying to figure out how to get down to Orlando to see Sophie. But an e-mail to him warns him of Sophie.
Jonah makes it down to Orlando only to find that things are going to go the way he planned and he isn't happy about it. With all the bumps in the road Jonah still manages to find some happiness in life.
I hope in the next book we finally find out who NorthGirl999 is and what wrong with Sophie.
I couldn't put it down...........2002-03-01
This book is soo good. I read it in less then one night and then I passed it to all of my firends to read. They loved it and we cant wait for the next book. Its a good look at a teenage life. I cant wait until volume 4 comes out....OMG the best book by far I've ever read.

Book Description
Data-mining has become a popular research topic in recent years for the treatment of the "data rich and information poor" syndrome. Currently, application oriented engineers are only concerned with their immediate problems, which results in an ad hoc method of problem solving. Researchers, on the other hand, lack an understanding of the practical issues of data-mining for real-world problems and often concentrate on issues that are of no significance to the practitioners. In this volume, we hope to remedy problems by (1) presenting a theoretical foundation of data-mining, and (2) providing important new directions for data-mining research. A set of well respected data mining theoreticians were invited to present their views on the fundamental science of data mining. We have also called on researchers with practical data mining experiences to present new important data-mining topics.

Book Description
Provocative and compulsively readable, lively, engaging, and brilliantly representative, The Oxford Book of Women's Writing in the United States presents short stories, poems, essays, plays, speeches, performance pieces, erotica, diaries, correspondence, and even a few recipes from nearly one
hundred of our best women writers.
Reveling in the awareness that the best U.S. women's writing is, quite simply, some of the best in the world, editors Linda Wagner-Martin and Cathy N. Davidson have chosen selections spanning four centuries and reflecting the rich variety of American women's lives. The collection embraces the
perspectives of age and youth, the traditional and the revolutionary, the public and the private. Here is Judith Sargent Murray's 1790 essay "On the Equality of the Sexes," journalist Martha Gellhorn's "Last Words on Vietnam, 1987," and Mary Gordon's homage to the ghosts of Ellis Island, "More Than
Just a Shrine"; powerful short stories by Zora Neale Hurston, Edith Wharton, Cynthia Ozick, and Toni Morrison; letters from Abigail Adams, Sarah Moore Grimke[accent], Emma Goldman, and Georgia O'Keeffe; Alice B. Toklas's recipe "Bass for Picasso," and erotic offerings from Anais Nin and Rita Mae
Brown. The moving autobiography of Zitkala- Sa[accent], whose mother was a Sioux, tells us more about "otherness" than any sociological treatise, while Janice Mirikitani's and Nellie Wong's poems about being young Asian-American women, like Alice Walker's meditation on the beauty of growing old,
speak to all readers.
A thought-provoking introduction and descriptive headnotes explore the history of women's writing in ways that help the reader to understand the American women who have used language to change their worlds and to remember the past, and as a means of etching their deepest, fondest dreams. A joy to
read, The Oxford Book of Women's Writing in the United States is filled with eye-opening and unexpected selections. It is the perfect book for anyone fascinated by women's writing and women's lives.
Customer Reviews:
Well-Rounded & A Good Read.......2000-03-29
The Oxford is a wonderful book. It can be used as a definitive text or as a recreational read. The stories are classic--my faves are "The Yellow Wall-paper" & "Extenuating Circumstances." Many of the authors included are published elsewhere so this book in turn leads the reader to other excellent books. It is broad in its scope of genre: there are essays, short stories, poems & erotica, + more...Highly recommended!

Book Description
The result of more than two decades of research and practice, The Endless Web present in clear, readable language a comprehensive guide to understanding and working effectively with the myofascial system, the 'packing material' of the body. Myofascia is a flexible network of tissue that surrounds, cushions, and supports muscles, bones, and organs. It also acts as a riverbed containing the flow of interstitial fluid, and is a critical influence on the immune and hormonal systems. In daily life, this connective tissue is an underlying determinant of movement quality, modd, alertness, and general well-being. The Endless Web is a fully illustrated guide to understanding how myofascia works, it supportive role within the body's anatomy, and how gentle manipulation of the myofascial tissue is central to lasting therapeutic intervention and how it can be integrated into any bodywork practice.
Customer Reviews:
Great view of connective tissue as a physical structure.......1998-12-26
Before I read this book I had never really considered the functioning of connective tissue as a "web-like" structure within which bone and muscle articulate. The authors contend, starting with embrionic anatomy and onward, that the c.t. forms a bed within which cells differentiate. From this view point of c.t. being a primary base for physical form, we are shown how all parts of the web are connected, and create "bands" that ideally are nether too tight or too loose. I didn't know much about Rolfing either, but apparently this bodywork deals specificly with c.t. Good book, great publishing company.

Book Description
A warm and wise self-portrait of the woman who originated the therapy that bears her name. Here, Ida Rolf tells about her life, about the wonder of the human body, about life in general, and about Rolfing in particular, explaining her technique of manipulating muscle tissue to allow the body to come into its correct alignment.
After Rolfing, your body has been encouraged to do what it wants to do--you move with ease, your lungs take in more air, and you are taller (and therefore, slimmer).
Customer Reviews:
It's All About the Attitude.......2001-06-16
"If there is one thing a Rolfer must remember," says Ida Rolf, "is to keep in mind that Rolfing is based on the theory of gravity." This is essentially the underpinnings of the attitude the Rolfer should consider when approaching a potential client. This book which is an amalgam of the wit and witticisms of Ida Rolf more or less defines the attitude of the Rolfer, the mind-set in which one is to take as a form of preparation. Rolfing is not a therapy, nor is it out to cure any ailments, disease or otherwise - it is aimed at elevating ones health for maximum mobility. The body is desgined to move, however, there are obstrctions that we are not always entirely aware of. Although gravity is constantly at play with us every day, we do not take into account the effects of gravity on the body. In Ida's understanding, gravity means structure, which also means relationships. Not just relation of the muscles to eachother and to the bones, but the body to the earth, the body with gravity. What is that relationship? The feet has to move along with with earth, to feel the ground, rather than resist or flatten as if it were a land mover itself. Gravity can be worked 'with' rather than against, which is the whole intention of Rolfing. This book is an easy read, however, because it is thought provoking to the person who is interested in Rolfing, you may want to enjoy some of Ida's brilliance and knowledge in her work. 'Rolfing and Physical Reality' is a good companion to her major work 'Rolfing' which explains the anatomical aspects of the body that has been shifted and unset. While the latter works as a presentation for the appreciation and observations for the Rolfer, this book acts as the thread for the Rolfers mind. I reccomend one with the other and should be read in tandem.
FOR A GREATER UNDERSTANDING.......2000-05-12
THIS IS A WONDERFUL BOOK - I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. I'M CURRENTLY READING IT FOR THE SECOND TIME. IT'S A VERY QUICK READ. THIS BOOK IS GREAT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF ROLFING - OR ARE EVEN CURIOS ABOUT IDA HERSELF. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IDA ROLF'S PERSONALITY REALLY SHINES THROUGH IN THIS BOOK. I FOUND IT TO BE VERY "LIGHT" AND "FUN" TO READ - AND ALSO VERY ENLIGHTENING.

Sherman...a different man.......2003-02-15
I enjoyed this work. Even though it was not an exhaustive report on General Sherman, (as it probably never was intended to be), it was interesting and thought provoking. I especially liked the somewhat fresh ideas on Sherman's treatment of the Carolinas after his well known march to the sea. Not all authors have the poetry and flow of a Carl Sandburg but Mark Coburn has a style that makes this work an enjoyable read as opposed to some that can lose you in details that are not important to the issue. If you can obtain a copy, I would recommend you do so.

Book Description
A comprehensive charting of the global water industry.
In the next ten minutes, forty children around the world will have died because they didn't have enough clean water or sanitation facilities.
In the world today, over a billion people lack safe drinking water. As tension mounts between states competing for diminished supplies of "blue gold," the global water industry is expected to become a trillion-dollar-a-year operation within a decade.
Up until now, no single publication has given shape and meaning to statistics about water use, re-use, and control. With a range of maps of startling clarity and richness of detail, The Water Atlas brings together the latest findings to show water distribution worldwide, the real cost of use in water-rich countries, and the dangers of a future where privatization and profit dictate availability. The atlas covers a wide range of topics, from consumption and scarcity to areas of political tension and looming catastrophes. Including detailed profiles of vulnerable regionssuch as California, the Middle East, and Indiaas well as bold summaries of the global picture, The Water Atlas will be a unique resource for general readers as well as health professionals, advocates, and students.

The latest findings with respect to water distribution.......2004-09-09
The Water Atlas: A Unique Visual Analysis Of The World's Most Critical Resource is the impressively collaborative work of environmental experts Robin Clarke (Editor of the World Meteorological Organization' "World Climate News") and Jannet King (who has worked for many years editing and researching environmental, political, and historical atlases). The Water Atlas is the first publication to give shape and meaning to the complex statistics about water use, reuse, and control. Enhanced with a range of maps notable for both clarity and detail, The Water Atlas offers the latest findings with respect to water distribution worldwide, the real cost of use in water-rich countries, and the dangers privatization and profit with respect to water management and distribution. Of special interest are the detailed profiles of vulnerable regions ranging from California, to the Middle East, to India. A unique reference, The Water Atlas is "reader friendly" for non-specialists with an interest in water conservation issues, and reliably informative for academia, water management professionals, governmental policy makers, and environmental activists.
