Book Description
Capture the beauty of birds on film--whether they're in flight, feeding, bathing, or even mating. One of the world's top bird photographers, whose work has appeared in Birdwatch and Outdoor Photography, offers enthusiasts a comprehensive introduction to this exacting but satisfying art. He covers all aspects of shooting, from setting up a hide in your garden to finding rarities. The invaluable advice includes tips on:
* Choosing the right camera, lenses, film, and accessories for the job
* Selecting the best location and approach
* Taking great photos even in difficult situations
* Improving your technique immeasurably.
A "surgery" section demonstrates how to learn from mistakes, trouble shoot, archive your pictures, and submit work to publications. It's the finest photographic handbook of its kind--and a most delightful account of one patient artist's passion for birds and their continuing protection in the wild.

Solid advice for novice and expert alike.......2004-06-08
This book offers some ideas and techniques I hadn't really encountered elsewhere. For instance, Mr. Young suggests and even encourages new bird photographers to spend lots of time photographing common or even tame birds at parks. For most of us who become serious about bird photography, we have come to it as birders, and you know how *they* can get! If not, read The Big Year, and you'll find out. Point being, as birders we seek the unusual, and when we become photographers, we will do the same. Mr. Young elegantly makes his case for the birds in the park, suggesting that learning tricks of exposure, flight shots and all the standards can be learned with a bit less waste of film.
He also gives some good advice for equipment that might be less costly for those of us without the income to support supertelephoto lens habits. I had not heard of the photoadapter setup he shows, but will probably explore this option.
Most of all, he gives excellent advice on all aspects of bird photography; equipment and film selection, location and approaches, and various techniques. I found his liberal use of side by side photos showing the same bird shot with different techniques and approaches to be very helpful. Mr. Young is not afraid to share his mistakes as a teaching tool. He also includes a chapter on archiving, so that one can begin to learn from mistakes made.
All in all, I have gained much from this book and highly recommend it. For me, the one downside is that he is based in the UK, so he is talking about birds and locations there, but this added a bit of fun, as he discusses shooting such rarities as the American robin!

Book Description
Emako Blue was supposed to be a star. She was beautiful and good-hearted. She was Monterey's best friend. She was the only girl Jamal cared about, the one who saw through his player act. She was the one who understood the burden of Eddie's family. She was the best singer anyone had ever heard, with a voice like vanilla incense, smoky and sweet. She was Savannah's rival, the one who wouldn't play by the rules. She was destined for greatness, already plucked from South Central Los Angeles by the record producers. She was only fifteen when she died.

First Time For Everything.......2007-08-27
This book was the first book ever to make me feel like I had actually lost a friend. it made me feel like my best friend was gone and I was never going to see her again. That's how deep this book was. I even teared up a little. I may be a girl, but I'm to....... i don't know the word, but whatever it is, it won't let me cry over no book. But, it was a very emotional read and it saddened me. I like how it told each of her friends side of the story before and after her death, well friends and foe, Savannah. It's a shame that things like this really do happen in this world and Innocence does not make you immune. It's a crazy, cruel, and spiteful world out there and this book tells it like it is. Just a young black teenager, tryna do her. But God has a plan for everyone and this book lets you see that. After reading this book, I realize that this could happen to anybody, even me and I wanna make sure I do what I can on this earth while I'm here because just like Emako's life was taken in a flick of a trigger, mine could be too. So I thing everyone should read Emako Blue. Brenda Woods put a lot of work into this and the result will have many other young girls who read this book in tears.
Book review.......2007-05-23
Emako Blue is the best book I read all year. When I picked it off the shelf and I looked at it, it didn't look really that interesting. But when I read the back of the book it was ok. When I started reading it, the book sounded good, so I kept on reading and then all of a sudden I was at the end. If you like books on life style and families that are struggling through life, then I you would definitely love this book. Emako Blue is a book all about these two girls that are friends, but the main character is Emako and she had the most beautiful voice and she had her whole life set out to be a star. One day the worst thing happened all because her brother was home. Emako's brother is in a gang and so he's never home unless he is in trouble or if people are looking for him.
This book has a good point of view because it shows and kind of tells you that being in a gang can be deadly. It also makes you think that when people that have a goal that something might interfere in your life and destroy it or cause a problem.
If you want to know what happens to the main character Emako Blue, then I recommend you to read this book.
Emako Blue.......2007-05-10
I was lucky Bound to Stay Bound gave me this book for free. After reading it I now have five copies in the our jr. high school library. One of the best books I have to offer and hardly ever have it available for checkout. It's a MUST for every middle school.
great message, not so great execution.......2006-04-09
this book has a great premise: Emako Blue is a teenage girl, uncommonly friendly, with a beautiful voice. she "was supposed to be a star", but is suddenly and senselessly killed in a drive-by shooting meant for her jailbird brother (and no, this is not a spoiler, we learn this in the first chapter). the book talks about Emako from the points of view of four kids who knew her.
the main problem with this book is that it's too short. you just barely get to know the characters when Emako's dead and the book starts wrapping up. i didn't feel nearly as devestated as i was supposed to when Emako died, because i never got to really know her. there wasn't much plot - most of the book consisted of conversations (which were well-done, but still, you need SOME action). i felt the book was basically just an intro and a conclusion, with no real meat in the middle. it could have been a great book if it was fluffed-up a little. as it is, it's just an outline - amounting to little more than a half-baked idea.
The Most Popular Book .......2006-01-07
I teach 7th grade and try to stock the most current quality books I can find. Emako Blue NEVER stays on the shelf. After I read it and shared it with my class, it went straight out the door with someone. As soon as I announce it's been turned in, someone else grabs it, literally within seconds. Boys and girls alike have read this book, and no one has not loved it. It is one of the few books I've seen that appeals to all groups. This book is truthful, current, and especially touching. It addresses friendship, fairness, hopes, and sorrow, all of which are so important to teens. I will always have one in my classroom library.

Book Description
Designed for your two-semester combined course, the new edition of anatomy and physiology is written to allow instructors the ability to accomplish one goal: to teach anatomy and physiology while fostering the skill of problem solving. Through learning how to solve problems and think critically, students learn A&P based on two themes: the relationship between structure and function, and homeostasis. An effective anatomy and physiology text should involve your students. It should invite them into the subject matter with a clear and interesting foundation, not intimidate or overwhelm. It should stimulate curiosity, promote critical thinking, and perhaps most importantly, it should teach students how to apply their knowledge throughout their professional careers. The fifth edition of Anatomy & Physiology accomplishes all of this and more.
Customer Reviews:
A&P.......2007-10-03
Unfortunately the class that I bought this text for is only for the Physiology side and I don't use the Anatomy content at all. As for the Physiology content I think that they do a very good job of explaining complex concepts in a simple student-friendly way.
it was required for me so i bought it.......2007-03-10
goood book, well organized, but guys its A&P. freaking hard
great product!.......2006-11-10
i recieved this book in brand new conditions just as promised! i am completly satisfied with the book!! i also recieved it in a timely matter.
Professor thought all wrong!.......2006-06-15
Although my professor thought most of the information in the textbook was wrong, it was a great guide to use both online and in class. Great illustrations!
Not Recommended.......2006-05-21
I bought this book for my Anatomy and Physiology 1 class in college. It was the required book for the class and the first semester we were using it. Upon going through we found numerous problems with information in the book. For example, there is an illustration of a reflex on page 419 and the foot is on backwards (according to the direction of the spinal cord). This is only one of many, many small problems with the book.
I do however give it two stars because the website accompanying the book gives a lot of explanations for each chapter with videos to better see what the chapter talks about.
If you're getting this book for independent study I recommend something else because this book has a lot of information that is wrong and you won't know to correct it. If you have a teacher who can point out the little qualms with this book, go for it but buy at your own risk.

for teachers and all other self-styled intellectuals.......2002-11-25
I teach at a large state school. Reading John McGowan's book renewed my commitment to teaching as an intellectual and transformative act. I especially liked the essays on teaching literature, the ABCs, pragmatism, and the overview of the "culture", as I am a teacher of the critical/cultural study of science and American studies.
