Book Description
Early in her career in the late 1960s, Biruté Galdikas was handpicked, along with Jane Goodall and the late Dian Fossey, by the renowned paleontologist Louis Leakey to go out into the world and study the great apes. She went on to dedicate her life to observing orangutans in their natural habitat and has become one of the world's leading authorities on orangutans. "I had reached the point where it was hard for me to see the differences between apes and humans," Galdikas once admitted on a 48 Hours television special.
Here the famed primatologist and author of Orangutan Odyssey explores each of the great apes (gorillas, chimpanzees-including bonobos-and orangutans), interpreting the latest research and describing relationships among the different species-all in the context of the mounting threat of extinction. The 125 up-close images by internationally renowned wildlife photographer Karl Ammann illustrate the behaviors of these intriguing, humanlike animals. The result is a compelling overview of what we have learned about these fascinating creatures and, in turn, what they can teach us about ourselves. AUTHOR BIO: Biruté Mary Galdikas, one of the first to study orangutans in the wild, is a world-renowned primatologist and a founding director of Orangutan Foundation International, a global conservation organization. She is the author of Reflections of Eden: My Years with the Orangutans of Borneo and Abrams' Orangutan Odyssey. Karl Ammann is a noted wildlife photographer whose images have appeared in Orangutan Odyssey, Eating Apes, and numerous magazines. Jane Goodall is the world's foremost authority on chimpanzees.

Book Description
The rumors about Miki and her "stepbrother" Yuu are scandalous enough, but the latest relationship to hit the gossip mill is even more shocking. Miki's best friend Meiko is seeing her teacher Nachan?! At least this takes the heat off of Miki's love triangle for now.
Customer Reviews:
Good volume.......2006-01-16
Another good volume. Miki is in love with Yuu, who becomes her boyfriend. This volume is very sweet, as Miki's feeligns for Yuu grow. In continuing volumes, Miki and Yuu become boyfriend and girlfriend and get together. The series is very realistic and everyone can relate to it.

Book Description
Talk about dysfunctional! Miki is horrified to learn that her parents have swapped with another couple, and that all four now plan to live under one roof. But when her new stepbrother, Yuu, shows up, he appears to be just the one to ease her mental anguish... that is, until she sees the bitterness beneath his cool exterior. The strange romance that follows would make any love triangle seem ordinary by comparison.

I was so pleased when I obtained this product. It arived on time and it was in perfect condition. I recomened this seller!!!
Disappointing End to a Great Start.......2006-09-29
Right, so about the first half of the Marmalade Boy series very nearly makes it one of my favorite shojo manga series ever. It was a humorous tale with unpredictable characters, plenty of plot twists, and- best of all- loads of humor. There were actually quite a few laugh-out-loud moments, which I don't find often in shojo manga.
Really. What happened?
I'm guessing that Yoshizumi got rushed after the first half of her series. The characters started becoming bland and unpredictable, and as the relationship between Yuu and Miki grew heavier, the romance just never grew touching for me. It only seemed sappy- possibly because Yuu, totally dropping his teasing act, merely became embarrassingly emotional and angsty most of the time. He lost everything that had once made him such a fun and interesting character. Ditto with Ginta and Arimi. Everything just felt so- what's the word? Fixed? Hmmm. Maybe the translation just got worse: for example, somewhere along the line it was like all the characters just suddenly stopped using contractions. It made the dialogue unnecessarily awkward in a lot of places.
All that came to its peak in this last volume, where all the nonsense between the parents gets explained at last in an abrupt, convolted manner. There's a whole lot of sap that goes on between Miki and Yuu, of course, and everything is tied up neatly with a few corny jokes and such.
Of course, if you've been a fan of the series all the way through even as (in my humble opinion) it went downhill, chances are, you'll find all the squishy romantic goop here makes up a satisfying conclusion. But personally, I found it to be a big letdown.
An Awesome Teen Romance Story.......2006-04-15
Marmalade boy was my second manga series and I'm extremely glad it was.
The main charaters Miki and Yuu are both Freshmen at highschool(In American terms at least) and had nothing to do with each other, not even going to the same school, until one day at tea, Miki's parents (The Koishikawas) announce that they are getting divorced. A while later, it enters teh story that Miki's parents are getting divorced and then marrying another couple's partners(The Matsuuras who are divorcing to marry the Koishikawas) In Miki's mind things couldn't get any worse. Of course she was wrong for the time being. Yuu Matsuura is the son of the other soon-to-be-divorced couple, and isn't the help Miki hoped he would be! In fact, instead of helping her in her protest against the whole Divorcing and Marrying thing he agrees to the entire deal! When they move into one big house as "One big happy family" things take on normalcy. Well as much as you can expect, a.k.a. none.
Marmalade Boy is an enchanting story that no Romantic/Comedy Manga fan should ever miss. The Story is full of twists, rivalries, and affairs that always seem to catch you in surprise! I have passed my now-worn copies of the entire 8-book long series to all my friends, who in turn passed it to their friends. Now i'm telling you, that you simply can't miss out on this story! Once you being reading it you will instantly become attached to the characters, arrangement, beatifully drawn scenes(With the cute little chibi-drawings or extras like profiles and authors notes added in), and most of all the plot.
One of My Favorite Shoujos.......2005-11-29
Marmalade Boy is one of my most favorite shoujos of all time! Miki Koishikawa WAS a normal high school girl until her life got turned upside-down. One day, while Miki was drinking tea (with the special tea set!), they (her parents) announced to Miki that they were going to divorce. What's weird is that her parents still love each other, just not in a romantic way. What's even more weird was that they had met another couple that felt the same way, on a trip to Hawaii (Miki was not on the trip). The two couples decide to divorce their current spouse, then remarry the other couple's spouse.
So, the Koishikawas and the Matsuuras (the other couple) divorce and of course, remarry, as I had mentioned. Now, the Koishikawas had a daughter, Miki (our heroine here), and the Matsuuras had a son, Yuu, who was the same age as Miki. At first glance, Miki had thought Yuu would be a great step-brother, until she realized that he enjoyed playing quick 'pranks' on her. Soon afterward, Yuu transfers into Miki's school.
*SOME CHARACTERS YOU WILL ENCOUNTER IN THE FIRST VOLUME*
Meiko Akizuki...she is Miki's best friend
Ginta Soui...he is in the tennis club with Miki; he and Miki have some sort of relationship (maybe)...
Na-chan...Mr. Namura; teacher at Miki's school
What I think of this manga series...Yoshizumi-sensei has done a great job with this manga. The story has an interesting plot, and difficult to understand romances (not really, I just wanted to say that^_^). This series is 8 volumes long. If you enjoy shoujo manga as much as I do, I suggest that you get yourself a copy and start reading!
*OTHER POPULAR WORKS OF YOSHIZUMI-SENSEI*
-Handsome Girlfriend...not yet released in the U.S. (sorry)
-Mint na Bokura...?
-Random Walk...not yet released in the U.S. (sorry)
-Ultra Maniac...published by VIZ
I know of 2 other titles, but they aren't released.
Thank you for reading this review!! ^_^
*by the way, I refer to myself as 'Manga-Addict'*
Last volume.......2005-07-17
Marmalade Boy is a wonderful series we can all relate to. My boyfriend and I and others can relate to the characters a lot. Marmalade Boy is a wonderful romance with a relationship. The characters and relationships are lovable and realistic and the plot is very touching. The whole series is great.

Product Description
Because vertebrate circulations do not work when shrunk to insect sizes, insects may help us design our smallest machines. Within small bodies, bees separate diffusing substances in an open cavity assisted by locomotion and the beat of the heart. The open arthropod circulation, however, is most efficient when shrunk until its large three-dimensional volume of blood turns into a two-dimensional film of fluid covering only the internal surfaces. This transformation increases the chances to near-certainty that molecules can diffuse from one point to another without getting lost. The Incredible Shrinking Bee expresses mathematics in words so that most readers can compare today's microelectromechanical (MEMS) devices with a honeybee's circulation, introducing ideas of biominiaturization to workers interested in developing compact energy and chemical systems. When it comes to shrinking systems, bees have the edge on human ingenuity. A farrago of ideas and disciplines, The Incredible Shrinking Bee provides a springboard for discussion and research for computer scientists, entomologists, systems biologists, physiologists, mathematicians, engineers and anyone wanting to learn how bees move things around in their bodies to do what we are trying to do smaller and better.

Book Description
This book provides a self-contained presentation of the mathematical foundations, constructions, and tools necessary for studying problems where the modeling, optimization, or control variable is no longer a set of parameters or functions but the shape or the structure of a geometric object. Shapes and Geometries: Analysis, Differential Calculus, and Optimization presents the extensive, recently developed theoretical foundation to shape optimization in a form that can be used by the engineering community. It also clearly explains the state-of-the-art developments in a mathematical language that will attract mathematicians to open questions in this important field.
Book Description
This is the first-ever English-language edition of the book Leo Tolstoy considered to be his most important contribution to humanity, the work of his life's last years. Widely read in prerevolutionary Russia, banned and forgotten under Communism; and recently rediscovered to great excitement, A Calendar of Wisdom is a day-by-day guide that illuminates the path of a life worth living with a brightness undimmed by time. Unjustly censored for nearly a century, it deserves to be placed with the few books in our history that will never cease teaching us the essence of what is important in this world.
Customer Reviews:
Prophetic.......2006-08-17
Immediately upon purchasing this book, I ordered another and sent it to my cousin who subsequently purchased 3, one for her husband who had opened the one I sent to her and begun highlighting passages and the other 2 she gave to her children who are in college. I know that Tolstoy viewed this as one of his greatest accomplishments in life and read from it every day. I read it cover to cover in about a week and then went back and picked up so that I can study each day. I never say that books change my life. I do think that I am the type of person who, when presented with something that resonates with my soul, I immediately align my actions with whatever it happens to be. There are many passages in this book that resonate with me, some of which elevated my thoughts and actions to a new level. I think that is why it meant so much to Tolstoy to leave this as his final work.
Everyday Living.......2006-03-04
For those who like and need a reminder that we are part of a larger world; and a beautiful world at that. I highly recommend it.
The best quote book.......2006-01-29
I have always liked Tolstoy but this book made me respect him even more. He was so deep, and spiritual. The book has 365 pages, each having a couple of deep thoughts for each day of the year. I haven't read many quote books so far but this one is worth the money that I spent on it. I found some of them excellent, some very good, while very few just so so. It depends on what you can relate to. You will love the ones that apply to your life and experiances. Overall, a nice book.
Tolstoy wrote a trilogy of wise thoughts.......2006-01-02
This timeless masterpiece is a part of a larger work created by the great novelist and thinker. Tolstoy produced a trilogy of wise thoughts: 1 - "The Calendar of Wisdom," 2 - "Thoughts of Wise Men," 3 - "Wise Thoughts for Every Day."
The last book in this trilogy, "Wise Thoughts for Every Day," was recently published in English by Arcade Publishers (2005) and is another Tolstoy masterpiece worth reading!
The major difference between these two books is the following: "The Calendar" presents aphorisms by Tolstoy's favorite writers and philosophers; and "Wise Thoughts" includes thoughts on the same topics - that is God, love, our life, family, money, faith, etc. - written by Tolstoy himself.
Tolstoy considered this book "more important" than any other book he has ever written, he repeatedly read excerpts from it to his family and friends, and highly recommended it to everyone.
A must have.......2005-05-08
This book is amazing. The more you read it the more insights you get into how we should live our lives. I keep it often with me since I bought it and I find it useful in overcoming everyday difficulties. It makes me strive to be a better person, thank you Tolstoy.

Book Description
He is considered one of the greatest novelists in any language in all of human history, but Leo Tolstoy was also an influential social reformer, peace advocate, and spiritual philosopher. Here, he collects pearls of wisdom from the sacred treasuries of cultures around the globe-lofty thoughts about religious aspirations, temporal life, and moral conduct-interspersed with his own philosophies on matters such as the soul, sin, lust, anger, vanity, false religion, false science, and more. First published posthumously in 1919, this remains an inspirational work... and one that illuminates the mind of one of our most esteemed writers. Russian writer COUNT LEV ("LEO") NIKOLAYEVICH TOLSTOY (1828-1910) is best known for his novels War and Peace (1869) and Anna Karenina (1877). ALSO FROM COSIMO: Tolstoy's The Kingdom of God Is Within You, Hadji Murad, and The Cossacks

1919. The Pathway of Life" is Tolstoy's posthumous message to an erring and suffering world. Customer Reviews:
There is no better teacher than Leo Tolstoy..............2006-08-09
Guy de Mallac has given us a masterpiece through his translation of one of Leo Tolstoy's last works.
In this book, chapters are devoted to such things as "Effort", "Love", "God" and "False Science" and upon which Leo Tolstoy makes comments about the things he believed were most apposite to each subject, and which, when practiced, would make a person a better person in this life. He spent the last years of his life devoted almost exclusively to this matter, which was near and dear to his heart.
Leo Tolstoy lived his life at the Yasnaya Polyana estate, an estate which would later cause strife in his marriage as he came to believe that land ownership was immoral when there were people who were able and willing to work, but could not for lack of land. When he sought to give much of the land away, acrimony in his marriage soon followed. Near the time of his father's death, the estate held approximately 2000 books. Throughout Tolstoy's life, and especially after his conversion to Christianity after his near suicide at the age of 51, he sought to spend all of his time learning from the great minds throughout history. This meant studying Greek so he could ready ancient texts, studying Hebrew for several years so he could study the original Old Testatment, and this also meant that much of his life was studying any religion which he felt could prove useful to all humanity. Near the end of his life, the Yasnaya Polyana collection swelled to nearly 32,000 books!
A chapter at the end of the book details his search for wisdom, and what he thought of each of the religions; some he had more favorable opinions of than others, as he was not a person who believed in strict adherence to any dogma which was immutable, even if facts proved it incorrect later in time. This was the first I had ever read of some of his opinions on these matters.
"The Wisdom of Human Kind" gives us a glimpse of how Leo Tolstoy thought people should live to make their lives meaningful.
A must have for anyone who is interested in Tolstoy's spiritual writings.
A great book from a great author!.......2002-01-19
This is the greatest book that I have ever read in my life. Within this book there are answers to all that human beings seek in order to be happy. It is a how to book if one is interested in living a moral life and in becoming a more complete human being. Leo Tolstoy with Guy De Mallac has written a masterpiece, a truly great piece of work from one of the most justifying minds of our times, Leo Tolstoy.
Tolstoy's capstone achievement of unified religious thought........1999-11-27
Tolstoy (known today only for his novels) attempted to complete his philosophical conceptions by unifying the basic moral conceptions of all religions and this is a condensed (and more manageable) form of his final work. Although emphasising pure Christianity it also blends this with traditional eastern concepts and creates a good complete summary of proper moral behavior. He seems also to convey a certain passion and love, giving the book a spirited tone. It preaches non-violence and even vegetarianism. I was surprised to learn that Tolstoy's ideas were much regarded 100 years ago and even were an inspiration for Ghandi. Depending on your background in world religions, the contents may or may not provide you with any new knowledge. It is certainly not out of date or only for readers of Tolstoy's novels. Five stars, although there may be better books out there (?).
