Health o Meter HDC100-01 "Grow with Me" Teddy Bear Scale for Babies and Toddlers
ASIN: 0028617320 |
Amazon.com
Ericka Lutz says that just because you've taken the family plunge, you needn't forgo traveling till baby's in college. She backs her claim with practical advice and sensible, knowledgeable, humorous, and reassuring chapters on diaper-changing; breast-feeding; eating out; car, bus, and train travel; cafe hanging with the baby (it is possible); the perfect day pack; negotiating airports; and amusing your child in the hotel. From Allergies to Zones, her trouble-shooting A to Z appendix covers the alphabetical essentials, including C for cranky and crabby, J for jerks (they're on the road, too), and T for tantrums. No details are too dirty for Lutz's light touch. Baby Maneuvers is the traveling-with-tots resource every freedom-loving new family should have.
Customer Reviews:
This author is not as smart as she thinks she is........2003-06-08
Lutz speaks with a breezy authoritativeness, but her pronouncements are easy for any experienced mother to see through. Half of what she presents as amazing insight is actually obvious to anyone with a brain, and much of what she states as fact is actually not. Hers is the voice of someone who is four years into raising a child and thinks she has it all figured out. This would be a damaging book for a first-time, impressionable mother to read, and for someone with more child-raising experience, completely unnecessary.
Blah.......2000-09-30
If you are going on a 'trek' of the Himalayans, or plan on hanging out in a youth hostel in Bulgaria, or maybe plan on living with a family in Indonesia and you want to bring your tyke along, this book is for you.
However, as most of us with children will be heading for destinations more sedate and too ordinary for Ms. Lutz, I recommend spending your money on another author and title.
Whew! I thought only *I* wanted a baby AND a life!.......1999-08-11
This book is SO funny and SO reassuring that it makes the PERFECT shower gift. It has so many tips for travel and general baby care, all in a package of humor and lovely self-deprecation. If you're smart and like to laugh, if you're afraid of becoming a parent for fear of mutating into a couch potato or not-so-happy homemaker, then I recommend this book. Yes, sisters and brothers, there IS hope!
Inspirational, Informative, and an enjoyable read........1999-04-30
Now that I'm a parent with zero time, I read books to be informed AND to be entertained. If it's not too much to ask, I also want a little inspiration. In this book, Ericka Lutz provides all three. Face it, going anywhere with a kid, especially a little one, is totally scary until you get the hang of it. No, you may never take your babies around the world or even the block the way the author encourages you to... but, guarenteed, you'll get a strong sense of how to. Better yet, you'll want to. Best yet, you'll believe you can. For anybody tired of the same old magazine articles and non-fiction books with their dry old advice, I heartily suggest "Baby Maneuvers." I've given copies to at least three of my pregnant friends. Oh yeah... those with no sense of humor should probably avoid this one.
Not really about travelling, and not really for everyone.......1999-03-24
Is this book about getting out-and-about with baby? Or, is it about all the great music her Annie is being exposed to? And all the non-toxic cloth diapers that Annie wore? And that her sweet little baby butt never touched a baby swing? Moving about with baby is just a launching pad for the author's general opinions about raising a kid in general. (And, she only has one child, so she gets to over-think EVERY aspect of parenting...)
Were you the type of person who travelled the world with just your backpack and camped under the stars without a tent? It should be great fun to read how you'll be when you have kids. If you're planning a trip somewhere actually ON the beaten path, this "guide" is less useful.

Book Description
A scruffy, but soulful delinquent gets tossed into the deep end of the flashy, cash-filled pool of the beautiful, the botoxed, the bling-bling-blessed. Meet Ryan Atwood, a 16-year-old brooding bad boy who's homeless and headed for juvie when his do-good lawyer Sandy Cohen opens his home, household, hearth, and heart to him. Home is a mansion; the household includes 16-year-old quirky-cute but friendless son Seth, hearth is the pool house that will be Ryan's crib-and heart? She's the poor-little-rich-girl next door, Marissa.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome!.......2005-07-18
I love the OC, and I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was written well. Ryan and Marissa have a complex relationship, and this book demonstrates that very well.
50/50.......2005-01-20
I thought this book was excellent. It had like 360 pages and it realy goes deep into each subject matter. The only problem is, I feel as though the author has slacked off towards the middle to the end of the novel. Because there are six episode adaptions to each book. The first episode (pilot) uses up like 110+ pages and the other five are very short and are a very basic story. You would get more info by watching the television show with your eyes shut and volume down. Still, it is a gr8 book. Well done Cory! (the author)
Neh........2005-01-11
It was a pretty crappy novelization if you ask me. First of all, it was based on a whole load of episodes but ended up coming at about, what, 200 pages? and the price is pretty steep for a short book. I think the author needs to write out the characters better. It seems like they only read scripts and didn't really know the characters. Watch the show, don't bother buying the books.
Not brilliant but not bad!.......2004-12-22
I bought "The O.C." book "The Outsider" after watching the series for a while.I'm glad I bought it because I never really understood why Ryan Atwood lived in the Cohen's house. The book explains all of this and it's good that you are able to see what is going on in the characters minds. I really got to know the characters much better. BUT, it is very badly written with a lot of repitition and not great descriptions. Read this book if you want to discover the background of the characters but DO NOT read this if you want to read a well written novel!(",)
Interesting Teen Drama Novelization.......2004-08-05
Sixteen-year-old Ryan Atwood has never been blessed enough to have a great upbringing. He lives in a rough-part of Chino, California, where fists, instead of voices, do the talking. Where his Mother gets drunk every night, and allows her alcoholic boyfriend to hit her whenever he wants. His life changes, however, when he is arrested for car theft and sent to live with a rich family in Orange County (The O.C.). There, he is the ultimate outsider. Seth Cooper, Ryan's somewhat adopted O.C. brother, does everything wrong, and while he's from The O.C., he's not an insider. Then there's the girl-next-door, Marissa Cooper is the ultimate insider. Born and bred in The O.C., she has everything she's ever wanted, and is super-model beautiful. Welcome to The O.C.
As someone who has never watched the show THE O.C., I was interested to see what all the hype was about. Hence, I picked up the first novelization, which covers the first seven episodes of the show, entitled PILOT, THE MODEL HOME, THE GAMBLE, THE DEBUT, THE OUTSIDER, THE GIRLFRIEND, and THE ESCAPE. What I found was an interesting teen drama, that will easily capture the minds and hearts of readers young and old. The novelization delves into the lives of the rich, and shows that even those with money have problems. Fans of the show will relish in this fast-moving novelization, while non-watchers will also enjoy this quick-paced novel filled with relationship drama galore. NOTE: For those looking for pictures of the cast members, there are eight pages of glossy-colored photos tucked into the middle of the book.

With the publication of The Outermost Dream, a collection of essays by William Maxwell, Graywolf Press's Rediscovery Series has saved from obscurity yet another literary jewel. Most of these pieces originally appeared in the New Yorker, where Maxwell was a fiction editor for 40 years, on the occasion of the release of a biography, memoir, diary, or collection of correspondence by or about a noted (or not-so-noted) author. Maxwell brings such a stunning combination of intellect and passion to his subject matter that his essays (one can hardly call them mere book reviews) are, as Maxwell expects of great writing, astonishing. Each is a sharply focused miniature, allowing the reader to enter the world that Maxwell describes, whether it be that of a humble 19th-century curate-cum-diarist or the young V. S. Pritchett, who published his first work, a joke in the Paris Herald, while working as a stock clerk for a photographic-plate manufacturer. It is a rare pleasure to find oneself in such capable hands.
Book Description
The Outermost Dream brings together essays and reviews by William Maxwell, one of America's foremost writers and editors. Maxwell chose deliberately to focus on biography, memoir, diaries, and correspondence when reviewing books: "what people said and did and wore and ate and hoped for and were afraid of, and in detail after often unimaginable detail they refresh our idea of existence and hold oblivion at arm's length." In reading his reviews, we are struck by Maxwell's skill in choosing the one particular, the haunting moment, that further illuminates our understanding of the power of an individual life. His discernment is equally telling whether writing about literary luminaries such as Virginia Woolf, Lord Byron, E.B. White, Isak Dinesen, or delving into the diaries of an unknown Victorian curate with vivid dreams of murder and mayhem.
Customer Reviews:
A Marvellous Volume of Literary Sketches.......2001-06-17
William Maxwell was a long time editor at the New Yorker and a fine fiction writer in his own right. As a reviewer and essayist, his work centred on the person - diaries, biography, memoirs and letters. In this wonderful book we are given a window into some fascinating lives, some famous and others forgotten, in a style that is elegant and yet simple. No authorial pyrotechnics are allowed to get in the way between the reader and the stories. The subjects range from E.M. Forster's guide book on Alexandria, Lord Byron's personal finances and Colette's third and happiest marriage to the family relationships that lay behind Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh." I hope other readers will find "The Outermost Dream" as enjoyable as I did.
A Learning Experience.......1999-02-06
I read this book several years ago in hardcover. Maxwell provides exceptionally well written critiques of contemporary biographies of writers and poets, and in doing so probably provides us with as strong a sense of the subject's writing style and personality, but without the detail of course, as was provided by the biographer. Upon completing this book I had been exposed to well crafted criticism, and had become familiar with several of the world's most important and unique writers. Highly recommended. If you enjoy Maxwell's writing, you will highly respect this book.
