La Frontera's Most Desolate Splendor.......2007-10-06
A few years ago I was lucky enough to take a trip along the Camino del Diablo. We had two vehicles, plenty of water and food, and full gas tanks. We signed the papers that we would not hold the United States Government responsible for anything that happened to us, and then set out from Ajo to as far as we could go, finally stopping within sight of the Tinajas Altas Mountains after an overnight camp at Tule Well. I am sorry not to have reached Tinajas Altas, but glad to have made the trip. The only people we saw were in a caravan geology field trip from Arizona State University, and camping under the stars in the Tule Mountains was well worth the difficulties of getting there. I even found Halley's Comet among the seeming millions of points of light.
I recently came across William K. Hartman's book, "Desert Heart: Chronicles of the Sonoran Desert" in a secondhand book store and was enchanted by the photographs and historical background. While I never reached Tinajas Altas, I was at last granted several nice photos of the place, now scarred by the tire tracks of ORVS and vandalized, as noted by Hartman (he is, somewhat appropriately, an astronomer, considering my cometary observation). Perhaps I should never get there, as it might now be a disappointment, but I still cherish my trip down the Devil's Highway and the trips I had made earlier down the old Fortuna Mine Road (the western part of the Camino del Diablo) toward the tanks on the other side.
Hartman notes that many people have tried to cross this region in the past, with many of those not making it to their destinations. The graves that used to be visible near Tinajas Altas, before vandals destroyed most of them, were a testimony to the unforgiving harshness of this part of the borderland.
This is a great book on a subject that is difficult to capture in words, or even photographs. Only the confirmed desert rat can understand the fascination with such desolate places on the earth. Still Hartman does somehow capture this fascination and expands on it to make this remarkable area of our planet come alive.
The photos and historical narrative makes this book unique, as the area involved is seldom discussed in books. It deserves better, and Hartman's book is a great start.
Beautiful book about eh Sonoran desert.......2000-05-02
This is a beautiful book about the landscape and lore of the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and Mexico. It will appeal equally to the student of geology or history.
The book is the culmination of the author's 30 years experience in exploring and studying the region. This was an area of ancient volcanic activity which shaped the land and left many interesting features shown here.
Hartmann also tells the story of several waves of explorers and settlers, from the Spanish under Cortes, to the missionaries, to Twentieth Century American expeditions. Of course, the Indian history of the area is also covered.
Many stunning photos of unusual geologic formations and gorgeous desert landscapes combine with a captivating story to make this a fascinating book. It is truly original and one of a kind.

Book Description
The first day of school is always full of surprisesespecially when Momo shows up with Toji! On the other hand, karma is in full force when friendly foe Sae finds herself expecting the unexpected!

New Love, Old Problems, Part 8.......2006-04-17
Momo and Toji show up at the beginning of school together, and this sparks all sorts of speculation about what is going on between the two of them. Momo is apprehensive about how the student body will handle this new change, but Toji and her decide to take it in strides... and Sae is sick to her stomach. Kiley, on the other hand, couldn't be more vivacious and charismatic, flirting with other women and taking photos with his brand new digital camera.
Momo get confused (again) about her feelings for Kiley when she discovers a photo of her from the first day at school in one of his notebooks... and Misao is finally starting to see a side of Ryo that she is unable to stomach when she sees how cold he is to Sae over her important news... and why is Kiley crying outside of Momo's gate at night...?
The series is almost done, and yet the storyline is heating up better than ever. Sides are clearly being drawn, and the lover's triangles are becoming more and more Bermudic... my gods, if I ever had this kind of drama and emotion over a choice of lovers I think I would throw up my hands in despair. Momo clearly has a hard choice to make, now that Kiley is exhibiting that he is still interested... who will it be to finally win her heart?
Chock full of love and torturous angst makes this manga worth reading.. For shojo fans and manga fans alike. It's definitely not a disappointment.
The Best Peach Girl Book!!!.......2004-04-30
OMG! This has been the best peach girl book so far. Its filled with a great amount of surprises, some good some not so good in Sae's case. Its a great book to read.

Book Description
Differential and integral equations are the most widely-used tools in the modelling of real-life processes and phenomena. This volume contains a number of papers on some recent important analytic and numerical developments in these fields, with direct application to linear and non-linear problems in continuum mechanics and mathematical physics.
Book Description
This book attempts to reconcile the analytic philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein with those issues that consumed his personal life and which lay outside the confines of analytic philosophy: his "religious disposition," his ascetic lifestyle, and his concern with the mystical. Sontag reveals the influence of the mystical on Wittgenstein's life and philosophy, his respect for Augustine, Kierkegaard, and William James, and the profound effect of Tolstoy's religious writings on the development of his philosophy.

Good Book.......2003-06-17
I picked it up just for the coverage/pictures of a particular favorite - the Northrop YF-23.
Fantastic! Great photos and lots of information!.......1999-12-28
Absolutely the best of its kind! Provides up-to-date information on all of America's stealth fighters and bombers. Up to now I haven't even heard of the YF-23 stealth fighter prototype. The book had lots of information on it and lots of technical data. I'd recommend this book to anybody who needs informations on America's stealth arsenal, or if you just like the stunning photos.
very good.......1999-09-11
I thought it had very very good pictures. It had good in-depth info about the airplanes and some missions it did. I enjoyed it alot, and recomend it for airplane lovers alike.

I would have to say this is one of my favorite books! The pictures in here are fantastic. It includes the F-117,B-2,YF-22,and the YF-23.Each plane has a whole chapter about it.I have used this several times in reports. It really goes into detail about each plane. All of the pictures are in color and there are great shots of each plane. It is also a very fancy and nice book that looks great on your shelf!
Book Description
Immigration is a topic of keen and growing academic interest, yet rarely do people working in one discipline share with those in other fields. This unique new collection seeks to bridge the gap. Each essay in Migration Theory focuses on key concepts, questions, and theoretical perspectives on the topic of international migration in a particular discipline while the volume as a whole teaches readers about similarities and differences across the boundaries between one academic field and the next. How, for example, do political scientists wrestle with the question of citizenship as compared with sociologists, and how different is this from the questions that anthropologists explore in dealing with ethnicity and identity? Migration Theory provides an invaluable dialogue across disciplines.
Contributors include: Caroline Brettell, Barry Chiswick, Hasia Diner, James Hollifield, Charles B. Keely, Barbara Schmitter-Heisler, and Peter Schuck.
Customer Reviews:
good summaries.......2002-12-17
For social scientists and their students who study migration, this is an excellent resource. It covers topics by discipline and in general does so in a comprehensive way. An essay that really looks at multidisciplinary use of these models would have been nice, but otherwise an great resource.

Customer Reviews:
A wonderful contribution to metaphysical studies........2000-07-04
The Call Goes Out: Messages from the Earth's Cetaceans is a collection of messages channeled by Diane Robbins from cetaceans (whales and dolphins), graphically spelling out why these life forms are here on Earth, how they work with extra-terrestrials, and how humans are interfering with their unique mission. Through Robbins, these creatures present an impassioned pleas for humans to stop whaling and cease the using of dolphin-killing fishing nets -- and to free whales and dolphins held in captivity in human aquariums and pens. Highly recommended reading for students of metaphysics, New Age studies, and extraterrestrial contact issues, The Call Goes Out is a revelation of the rich family and cultural life of non-human but intelligent species sharing planet Earth.
