Book Description
Santmire's much-acclaimed The Travail of Nature: The Ambiguous Ecological Promise of Christian Theology documented the unfortunate legacy of many Christian theological notions in the use, abuse, and destruction of the natural world, along with its positive aspects. This new brief, but penetrating, look at Christian theological concepts of nature returns to the fray, this time to reclaim classic, mostly pre- modern Christian themes and re-envision them in light of the global environmental and cultural crisis.
This revisionist work--to revise the classical Christian story in order to identify and to celebrate its ecological and cosmic promise--mines Christian cosmology (the Great Chain of Being), Christology, Creation, and Eucharist, so that the Christian story can be then rediscovered (history), reshaped (theology), re-experienced (spirituality), and re-enacted (ritual).

if eating is tops, buy this book.......1999-10-08
The authors are unashamed in their guiding principle: days in Provence should be oriented around food. I agree with them wholeheartedly, and took this book with me on my recent trip. I only managed to get to two of the 20 restaurants they mention, but used the book often to help me recognize specialties of the various towns that I visited. The two restaurants at which I ate were the highlights of my visit. I would trust the authors completely to steer one in the right direction. Even if you are not about to travel to Provence, this book is a fun read, and a great way to feed your fantasies.

Classic Story.......2003-05-15
This is a GREAT/CLASSIC story. I have 1-8 in the original Japanese formats & can only say this story if very unique. Although this story line can be seen in a LOT of other shoujo (girl) comics, Wataru Yoshizumi took the concept and turned it in to something new and wonderful.
Awesome series.......2003-03-11
I picked up 1-4 a couple months ago and got hooked into the story right away. I couldn't wait for 5 to come out and it definitly doesn't dissapoint. There are 2 new characters who add to the mix of Yuu and Miki's relationship. I can't wait to find out what happens in 6.
If your looking for more great reads try Ceres, Card Captor Sakura, and Sailor Moon.
Miki and Yuu are finally a couple!.......2003-03-09
This is quite possibly my favourite book out of the Marmalade Boy series. What everyone was waiting for has finally happened, Miki and Yuu have become an official couple. But just as soon as this happens a cute (and sneaky) model threatens to ruin their new relationship. The art, plot and characters are all great. I highly recommend this book!
Book Description
Talk about dysfunctional! Miki is horrified to learn that her parents have swapped with another couple, and that all four now plan to live under one roof. But when her new stepbrother, Yuu, shows up, he appears to be just the one to ease her mental anguish... that is, until she sees the bitterness beneath his cool exterior. The strange romance that follows would make any love triangle seem ordinary by comparison.

Disappointing End to a Great Start.......2006-09-29
Right, so about the first half of the Marmalade Boy series very nearly makes it one of my favorite shojo manga series ever. It was a humorous tale with unpredictable characters, plenty of plot twists, and- best of all- loads of humor. There were actually quite a few laugh-out-loud moments, which I don't find often in shojo manga.
Really. What happened?
I'm guessing that Yoshizumi got rushed after the first half of her series. The characters started becoming bland and unpredictable, and as the relationship between Yuu and Miki grew heavier, the romance just never grew touching for me. It only seemed sappy- possibly because Yuu, totally dropping his teasing act, merely became embarrassingly emotional and angsty most of the time. He lost everything that had once made him such a fun and interesting character. Ditto with Ginta and Arimi. Everything just felt so- what's the word? Fixed? Hmmm. Maybe the translation just got worse: for example, somewhere along the line it was like all the characters just suddenly stopped using contractions. It made the dialogue unnecessarily awkward in a lot of places.
All that came to its peak in this last volume, where all the nonsense between the parents gets explained at last in an abrupt, convolted manner. There's a whole lot of sap that goes on between Miki and Yuu, of course, and everything is tied up neatly with a few corny jokes and such.
Of course, if you've been a fan of the series all the way through even as (in my humble opinion) it went downhill, chances are, you'll find all the squishy romantic goop here makes up a satisfying conclusion. But personally, I found it to be a big letdown.
An Awesome Teen Romance Story.......2006-04-15
Marmalade boy was my second manga series and I'm extremely glad it was.
The main charaters Miki and Yuu are both Freshmen at highschool(In American terms at least) and had nothing to do with each other, not even going to the same school, until one day at tea, Miki's parents (The Koishikawas) announce that they are getting divorced. A while later, it enters teh story that Miki's parents are getting divorced and then marrying another couple's partners(The Matsuuras who are divorcing to marry the Koishikawas) In Miki's mind things couldn't get any worse. Of course she was wrong for the time being. Yuu Matsuura is the son of the other soon-to-be-divorced couple, and isn't the help Miki hoped he would be! In fact, instead of helping her in her protest against the whole Divorcing and Marrying thing he agrees to the entire deal! When they move into one big house as "One big happy family" things take on normalcy. Well as much as you can expect, a.k.a. none.
Marmalade Boy is an enchanting story that no Romantic/Comedy Manga fan should ever miss. The Story is full of twists, rivalries, and affairs that always seem to catch you in surprise! I have passed my now-worn copies of the entire 8-book long series to all my friends, who in turn passed it to their friends. Now i'm telling you, that you simply can't miss out on this story! Once you being reading it you will instantly become attached to the characters, arrangement, beatifully drawn scenes(With the cute little chibi-drawings or extras like profiles and authors notes added in), and most of all the plot.
One of My Favorite Shoujos.......2005-11-29
Marmalade Boy is one of my most favorite shoujos of all time! Miki Koishikawa WAS a normal high school girl until her life got turned upside-down. One day, while Miki was drinking tea (with the special tea set!), they (her parents) announced to Miki that they were going to divorce. What's weird is that her parents still love each other, just not in a romantic way. What's even more weird was that they had met another couple that felt the same way, on a trip to Hawaii (Miki was not on the trip). The two couples decide to divorce their current spouse, then remarry the other couple's spouse.
So, the Koishikawas and the Matsuuras (the other couple) divorce and of course, remarry, as I had mentioned. Now, the Koishikawas had a daughter, Miki (our heroine here), and the Matsuuras had a son, Yuu, who was the same age as Miki. At first glance, Miki had thought Yuu would be a great step-brother, until she realized that he enjoyed playing quick 'pranks' on her. Soon afterward, Yuu transfers into Miki's school.
*SOME CHARACTERS YOU WILL ENCOUNTER IN THE FIRST VOLUME*
Meiko Akizuki...she is Miki's best friend
Ginta Soui...he is in the tennis club with Miki; he and Miki have some sort of relationship (maybe)...
Na-chan...Mr. Namura; teacher at Miki's school
What I think of this manga series...Yoshizumi-sensei has done a great job with this manga. The story has an interesting plot, and difficult to understand romances (not really, I just wanted to say that^_^). This series is 8 volumes long. If you enjoy shoujo manga as much as I do, I suggest that you get yourself a copy and start reading!
*OTHER POPULAR WORKS OF YOSHIZUMI-SENSEI*
-Handsome Girlfriend...not yet released in the U.S. (sorry)
-Mint na Bokura...?
-Random Walk...not yet released in the U.S. (sorry)
-Ultra Maniac...published by VIZ
I know of 2 other titles, but they aren't released.
Thank you for reading this review!! ^_^

Marmalade Boy is a wonderful series we can all relate to. My boyfriend and I and others can relate to the characters a lot. Marmalade Boy is a wonderful romance with a relationship. The characters and relationships are lovable and realistic and the plot is very touching. The whole series is great.

Book Description
Tremendous progress has been made in the scientific and engineering disciplines regarding the use of iterative methods for linear systems. The size and complexity of linear and nonlinear systems arising in typical applications has grown, meaning that using direct solvers for the three-dimensional models of these problems is no longer effective. At the same time, parallel computing, becoming less expensive and standardized, has penetrated these application areas. Iterative methods are easier than direct solvers to implement on parallel computers but require approaches and solution algorithms that are different from classical methods. This second edition gives an in-depth, up-to-date view of practical algorithms for solving large-scale linear systems of equations, including a wide range of the best methods available today. A new chapter on multigrid techniques has been added, whilst material throughout has been updated, removed or shortened. Numerous exercises have been added, as well as an updated and expanded bibliography.

Excellent work.......2006-08-12
We used this book to prove a theorem in our studies that is directly related to my PhD thesis on spatial data mining and spatial statistics. This book is a master-piece.
Thanks Dr. Saad.
Wonderful Book.......2005-06-30
This is one of my favorite books in my library on this subject. Also I have used this book for my class as main textbook along with "Iterative Methods for Solving Linear and Nonlinear Equations" by C. T. Kelley , which is another SIAM book.
Highly recommended.
Great Book.......2000-05-24
This is a great book for this subject. The book is easy to follow and Saad does a wonderful job of illustrating with examples. This is a great textbook or a book for reference. This book does a particularly good job with Krylov methods and does a reasonable job with preconditioning.

Book Description
An overview of the most successful algorithms and techniques for solving large, sparse systems of equations and some algorithms and strategies for solving optimization problems. The most important topics dealt with concern iterative methods, especially Krylov methods, ordering techniques, and some iterative optimization tools.
The book is a compendium of theoretical and numerical methods for solving large algebraic systems, special emphasis being placed on convergence and numerical behaviour as affected by rounding errors, accuracy in computing solutions for ill-conditioned matrices, preconditioning effectiveness, ordering procedures, stability factors, hybrid procedures and stopping criteria. Recent advances in numerical matrix calculations are presented, especially methods to accelerate the solution of symmetric and unsymmetric linear systems. Convergence analysis of the multi-grid method using a posteriori error estimation in second order elliptic equations are presented. Some inverse problems are also included. Evolution based software is described, such as genetic algorithms and evolution strategies, relations and class hierarchising to improve the exploration of large search spaces and finding near-global optima. Recent developments in messy genetic algorithms are also described.
The tutorial nature of the book makes it suitable for mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers and postgraduates.

Product Description
Four very diverse women, all seeking revitalization from the dreary February rains of 1920s London, rent the small medieval castle of San Salvatore, nestled high above the bay of Portofino, Italy. Arriving at San Salvatore, they find it awash with the scent of flowers, its olive groves terracing down to the sun-warmed sea.
Mrs. Wilkins and Mrs. Arbuthnot are glad to leave their insipid duties and unresponsive husbands behind. The elderly Mrs. Fisher wishes only to sit in the sun and replay her youthful memories, and the bewitchingly beautiful Lady Caroline Dester desires to have seclusion from all her adoring suitors. Amid the canopies of fragrant wisteria, in the sweet sunshine and melodious silence, four lives are transformed and resuscitated by the magic of San Salvatore.

And indeed Mr. Briggs seemed very much interested. He wanted to hear all about everything she had been doing from the moment she got there. He asked her if she had seen this, that, and the other in the house, what she liked best, which room she had, if she were comfortable, if Francesca was behaving, if Domenico took care of her, and whether she didn't enjoy using the yellow sitting-roomthe one that got all the sun and looked out towards Genoa.

Appealing.......2005-12-19
In the spirit of the Bronte sisters, this novel delights and entrances. An enjoyable read.
no title.......2005-11-17
Just got through watching the wonderful movie; not as wonderful as the book, but very good. Have now read this book at least three or four times, and still adore it every time. Has to rank as one of my all-time favorite books. Must rent an Italian castle on the western Mediterranean coast some day. The writing is so witty, and warm, the story so imaginative, the moral so wise. Love is all; just to love, not expecting anything in return. It opens people up. Lotty, Rose, Lady Caroline, and Mrs. Fisher all live in these pages. And the gardens, the flowers, the utter beauty of San Salvatore. The author quite obviously loves flowers. Even the servants are clearly drawn, Francesca and Domenico. Lotty becomes a truly original character. Love, love, love this book!
A Serene Painting of Love.......2005-11-13
Much like the film this book by Elizabeth Von Arnim inspired, there is something peaceful here on these pages. This is a gentle novel about the gradual internal changes brought about by the beauty of our surroundings. It is a book that reads itself as much as it is read, the author writing with the flow of the character's thoughts and feelings as their hearts are changed by the surprise of beauty.
An ad to rent a castle in San Salvatore on the Italian Riviera will prompt two only slightly acquainted British women named Rose and Lottie to inexplically leave their husbands behind for a summer that will change their lives and their marriages forever.
Joining Rose and Lottie for this holiday is Mrs. Fisher, an older woman living in the past, and Lady Caroline Dester, a grey-eyed society beauty tired of being gawked at like a majestic statue, not allowed to be human. Diverse in nature and temperment, not to mention background, they interact uneasily together until the flowers and the sea bring about a change in their souls.
Surrounded by fig and olive trees, plum blossoms and Tamarisk daphnes, and the scents of fortune's yellow rose and blooming acacia, the women slowly find their roles at this castle by the sea and in doing so find themselves as well. New insights will prompt Rose and Lottie to send for their husbands. Lady Caroline, or 'Scrap' as she is known, will find love in spite of her wish to be alone and her great beauty. Mrs. Fisher will form a friendship with Lottie and her husband and discover a renewed zest for creativity in this heaven by the sea.
This is a novel about life and love, told gently through the emotions of these women, as the surprise of beauty and the warmth of being suddenly admired and seen as beautiful, when they had not been before, changes their simple lives, which were not so simple at all. You will definitely enjoy this novel if you enjoyed the lovely film it inspired.
A peaceful yet breathtaking portrait of love is painted by the author in a pleasing and gentle manner readers will fall in love with. A beautiful read on paper, or listened to unabridged with Nadia May reading. This is a book that refreshes the soul and calms the spirit. It is about love restored and love discovered, along the wistaria covered steps leading down to the sea.
Grace abounding.......2005-09-05
Always celebrated for its beautiful evocative setting in Portofino, THE ENCHANTED APRIL has also to some extent been dismissed as a sentimental trifle. It is not: for all its surface charm, it is also one of the most searching fictional works ever written on the nature of goodness, and its effects upon selfishness and acquisitiveness. Two Hampstead housewives, Rose Arbuthnot and Lottie Hawkins, advertise for two other women to share in the costs so that they may rent an Italian castle for the month of April and escape their loveless lives; when they and the other two women (the dazzling Lady Caroline Dester and the rigid bluestocking Mrs. Fisher) arrive at the spectacularly lovely castle, they begin to discover that not only have their spirits been refreshed but also that their value systems have changed through what amounts to the dispensation of the castle of a kind of secularized grace. Elizabeth von Arnim accomplishes this very probing study of modern British mores through the very subtle and unobtrusive psychological realist use of extended interior monologues. The result is a novel that is not only completely beguiling but actually quite thoughtful. A greatly underappreciated little gem.
A delightful read.......2004-04-27
Well, you've already heard about the story. Just wanted to add that the characters were so real, it was as if I were really there with them. A wonderful turn of events at the end. Caught me off guard. Very enjoyable. Beautiful writing. Now I've got to rent the movie.
