Born to Shop--London.......2000-05-18
London was our 5th trip with Suzy: as usual she directed us to all the right places and with her usual wit and flair, to boot. You know you have a great source when the husband of the group (who has to carry everything) says that the only guide book for the day will be by Suzy.
Suzy Gershman captures the London shopping scene in one book.......1999-08-09
The book has been and continues to be an excellent resource for shopping needs. London can be overwhelming -- after all it is the city of shopkeepers -- but following the recommendations in the book have proven successful everytime. I have sent a copy to each of my guests planning to visit London and all have been able to highlight areas of shopping to save time and get what they want. The helpful tips, shortcuts and general information about the markets is fabulous. If planning a trip to London and shopping is on your list of things to do -- don't be caught without the ulitimate shopping guide.
Don't leave home without it!.......1999-02-23
This book alone is worth a ticket to London. Whether you're a power shopper or just want to pick up a few souvenirs, Suzy Gershman has insider secrets for the perfect item at the perfect shop. And she's great fun to read (even if you're not ready to plan a trip yet.) I've used her books in 3 countries, and she's never steered me wrong. In this edition: don't miss Jo Malone, Lush, and tea at Stafford's.

Book Description
Two years ago, Jeff Hart was kidnapped at knifepoint. Now his kidnapper is releasing him to return home. But when Jeff finds his family, he feels shell-shocked and unable to tell anyone what happened. He can't believe that anyone-not even his family or friends-will understand what he went through. Jeff isn't the same person he was before, and he never will be again.
"An accomplished, intense, and powerful first novel." (Kirkus Reviews)

Aftermath of Abduction.......2007-05-31
When he was fourteen years old, Jeff was kidnapped from a highway rest stop where his family had pulled over to get a drink. The man who took him kidnapped him at knifepoint, leaving no trace and throwing Jeff's family into turmoil.
For two years Jeff lived with his kidnapper in a horrible existence of violence, sex, and deprivation. Finally at sixteen, Jeff has somehow convinced his kidnapper, Ray, that he loves him and Ray should let him go back home.
But when Jeff arrives home, things are very hard. He is ashamed of himself and embarrassed about the things people are saying about Ray and about what Jeff went through. Jeff doesn't want to talk about any of it, and denies that Ray ever molested him at all. The newspapers, though, are printing stories that are making Jeff's life even more miserable. Jeff isn't sure how to relate to his family or how to survive at school, surrounded by people who are saying terrible things about him and what he went through. He needs to start recovering from these two years of captivity, but he doesn't even know how to start.
I liked that Jeff's experience was portrayed as completely horrible but the author refrains from being very graphic. Although it is still pretty disturbing, the worst things are left in the imagination of the reader. The ending of the book was good--hopeful but not too unrealistic. I also liked that the story was told from Jeff's point of view. It was awful to see how he felt about himself, but it helped me to understand why he acted the way he did.
I didn't like Jeff's father. It seems that after he had lost one of his children, he would have made more of an effort to treat the other two better, but things remained pretty much the same with Jeff's brother and sister. I don't know how realistic it was to have Ray bring Jeff back home, and I also don't know if it was realistic that the press would have so much information that they would be able to print about a minor.
Dark.......2006-11-03
I thought this book was really good. It was disturbing and shocked the reader. Which I find to be a good thing. It made me want to find out what happened. It explores the many ways someone would have to adapt to life if something this horrible were to happen. Bascially how to find a way to survive in the most dire of senarios.
I found this book in the young adults section and that's where it belongs. Yeah it talks about a grown man raping a child but that's reality. These things happen and maybe it will open the eyes to kids and if one of their friends happens to ever (I hope not though!) be put in one of those situations ridicule won't be the first instinct.
This book let's you explore the workings of a teenaged mind and also shows the parents point of view. I do recommend this book but not to anybody who thinks the writer did this for sick entertainment and is sick for writing about male-male rape. That wasn't the intention and if you were smart/mature enough to figure that out-- then yes, please read this.
Very Depressing.......2006-07-13
I have no complaints on the author's style, grammar, or character development, but I found the subject matter dark and disturbing. It's says it's for young adults, but I would think that most young adults would not have common ground with the main character Jeff and his awful experiences, thus finding the book, not only unsettling, but unrelatable.
Captivating Tragic Tale.......2006-03-09
I use this in my Adolescent Literature course, and the kids eat it up. Atkins is able to tell the story of a boy who is kidnapped and raped without being graphic at all and still keep teens wanting to read on. This is like Deep End of the Ocean for teens. It's about the family trying to heal and get to know each other again, with the mystery of what actually happened intertwined.
Readers must understand that this is only the first stage. The tale doesn't show the counseling that would be needed, but one would figure that would come next.
A Disturbing Book.......2005-07-04
When Jeff Comes Home is a very disturbing book. How anyone could write about a MAN raping a kid BOY is disgusting. I felt uneasy throughout the whole book and was shocked that Jeff partly like being raped by the same sex. He never said that, but he thought about it and covered for Ray, and did actions he did with Ray. I do not recommend this book, but if you are going to read it, be prepared and emotionally ready. If you are under 14, you probably shouldn't read it. This is an appalling book.

Book Description
This study examines the pre-history of statistics in eighteenth-century England and France, before state governments and other institutions began to collect statistical data on a regular basis. Eighteenth-century political and medical arithmeticians developed a variety of useful techniques to measure health and population. This book highlights the history of numerical tables, as new scientific instruments, and explains how they were used to evaluate smallpox inoculations, and the health and size of populations.

Not Recommended.......2007-04-08
The practice tests in this book were terrible! In more than one instance, the answers were incorrect according to my textbook and one of the questions had 3 answer choices that were identical! Compared to the AP questions we recieved from my teacher, the ones from the Barron's review book were quite off.
Great Book, as expected.......2006-03-16
bought this book on Amazon, saved a bunch of money, got the book in 3 days. i don't think it gets much better than that. as for the book itself, well, i always trusted barrons for most of my tests, and this is no exception.
It's OK.......2006-01-22
This book is ok. Some of the explanations (like with electricity) are a bit confusing, and some of the information in the book is not even tested on the AP exam (like angular momentum). There are a few errors in the answer choices too, and those threw me off. When I studied it, I had no experience with physics whatsoever, and I crammed for the AP Physics B exam in a month and got a 3. But nonetheless I did learn quite a bit, and the introductory chapters that dealt with testing and learning strategies were nice to read. I also found that, as opposed to the Princeton Review's book, theres more verbal explanation of the concepts, rather than a set of problems, making it seem more like a textbook than just a problem workbook.
So to a certain extent, the cons balance the pros, making it neither good or bad. I suppose this book is good depending on your learning style. If you want explanations, this book does it. If you more practice problems, princeton does that.

Customer Reviews:
horrible.......2003-07-30
I used this book along with Princeton Review to prepare for the test two months ago. The Princeton Review one is excellent, and this one is terrible. Though I can't say I got a 5 because of Princeton Review, this one is absolutely ridiculous. It has two chapters on problem solving, which are actually not very useful. The review chapters are extremely confusing, and a lot of the explanations, equations, and even basic concepts, are wrong. There are very few examples. The practice problems after each chapter are way harder than the real test, making them practically useless, and ridiculously many of the solutions are wrong too. Wrong concepts, explanations and solutions are all over the place. It also has a chapter on rotation and a whole 15-page chapter completely devoted to relativity, which aren't even on the B test except for torque, rotational statics, and the mass-energy relationship, which added up don't even need half a chapter. There are also appendices, some of which are totally useless for the AP test, like the infinite series for the sine function. This book is absolutely horrible, so don't get it.
Questions accurate of AP-style, but explanations are bad.......2000-12-03
First of all, the AP exam is majorly difficult so if you haven't put any effort in your class the test is going to be a nightmare.
The Barron's book is strong in it's practice exams. I found the questions to be of the same style and difficulty as on the AP, especially the multiple choice. And for some of the easier chapters (vectors, 1-D motion, waves), the summaries aren't too bad although the information is a little muddled.
But that's all that's really good about this book. The answers for the practice questions are to difficult to explain and a lot of the time just plain-out incorrect. They might explain how to do it mathematically and show the calculations which would be completely incorrect. Or they'd write the incorrect equations. If you're a strong Physics student most of this shouldn't bother you, but there were a few questions where the method they used to solve the problem was entirely incorrect. Also when the book tries to explain the more complicated stuff, the language is just no basic and clear. And they introduce a lot of simplified versions of the common equations, obviously meant to increase speed, but mostly just confused me.
This was the only book I used to prepare for the exam so I don't know how the other prep guides are in comparison. But I wouldn't recommend this book.
Excellent review of the Physics B curriculum........2000-05-25
I find it interesting that the reviewer before me -- who gave the book one star -- wrote the review on 15 May 2000, when the AP exam was not until two days later.
Having used this book almost as my primary source for most of the fourth quarter, I have to say it does an excellent job of what it says it will -- helping a student prepare for the AP Physics B exam. From problem-solving strategies to excellent short summaries of each topic to sample exams to even a review of algebra, the book provides everything needed to succeed on the Physics B exam.
With a teacher who was out with a serious illness for most of the fourth quarter, I knew I'd need extra help if I was going to get through the AP exam. (It's one of six I took, so it's not like I haven't experienced the "fun" of these exams before). I picked up this book and found myself quite happy with it, and its review of dozens of test topics definitely helped me through both my physics class and the AP exam itself. In retrospect, I wouldn't have done as well as I did without this review guide.
Don't buy this book!.......2000-05-16
The biggest complaint that I have with this book is that the answers explained are horrible. They are either useless or only confuse you more. I would highly recommend you to buy the REA(Research & Education Association) Review Book if you can find it. The REA Review book had an answers explained section that is quite helpful, not only telling you why an answer is right, but why each wrong answer is wrong. I have also found the test questions to be much more difficult and confusing in this book than any review book I got and from the actual exam that I just took. I also found many blatant errors in this review book. For example numbers 44 and 60 on exam I have typos in their answer choices. The back of the book is different from the answer choice. There are many others that I found and probably many more that I did not find. I am rather sorry that I wasted my money on this book and urge you not to do so as well.
Great Summaries!.......2000-01-10
Wolf provides me not only all I need on the test material with clear and comprehensive, but also some valuable knowledge associated with it. This book is seven times as light as my text book, but the former is perhaps more valuable.

For Lovers Of Holmes.......2002-11-30
Though not necessarily the best Sherlock Holmes stories, David Timson does a wonderful job bringing flavor and color to stories of our favorite Victorian "consulting detective." Picturing the flat at 221B Baker Street and 19th century London is easy through Watson's naratives and Timson's excellent voice characterizations. David Timson does the best readings among all the Sherlock Holmes audio books I own. I highly recommend any Holmes story read by David Timson.
