Best Book on Guppies.......2002-03-12
Actually this is Paul Hahnel's book, the inventor of the modern delta strain. This is the best book ever written about guppies. Very little of the information is dated. Learn about the care of guppies from a master who kept it simple.

Customer Reviews:
Changed my life.......2003-06-05
This book is great. I went to Italy a lame American devil and came back a lame American devil, but what a great book anyway.
All the locations for hip convents are detailed, and mapped out. The Italian culture is described in intimate detail, by some of the finest wordsmiths since Dante. The restaurant reviews are so well written you almost see the stains from the extra virgin olive oil. There is section that descibes Italian fashion. The tip on the large lapels was most helpful for my nights on the town. Common Italian slang that peppers the pages makes this an educational as well enjoyable read. "molla benny"
I love this book, no matter where I travel, even in the USA I read it for area recommendations.
Good book.

Review for Return to Hawk's Hill.......2003-10-20
Return to Hawk's Hill by Alan W. Eckert is one of my favorite books. I think this book can be read or listened to by all ages. The book tells the story through the eyes of the family, Ben and the villagers. While reading the book, you will find yourself comparing what they did in a certain situation with what you would have done. The main theme is the conflict of what people think of others when they act, talk and do things you find are strange.
The story begins with Ben's brother and sisters going home and thinking of what had happened before (read Incident at Hawk 's Hill to understand) when George Burton shows up. Ben feeling like an animal caught runs..., finds a boat..., is found by an Indian boy and brought back to the Indian boy's village, fills fear, lonely and then love. Return to Hawk's Hill is a book you can't stop reading until it's done.
Return to Hawk's Hill.......2002-03-04
I chose to read this book.... I was looking for a novel that seemed interesting. I also wanted to read a book with a different genre from most of the other books I've read...
The main character in this story is a young boy named Ben Mac Donald. Ben Mac Donald has two older sisters,... . and one older brother. Ben is the youngest of the four and also the quietest. He seems to be on the reserved side and it seems like he enjoys being home alone, and keeping to himself. Ben is also fascinated with nature, and loves to go and frolic with the wildlife on the prairie. At one point in the story, Ben even stays with a mother badger in her den...
I really enjoyed this book and I found it very interesting. I love the adventures that he goes on. Sometimes the adventures he goes on are to save the lives of others, other times it's to get away with his own. I give this book a score of 4+/5-; because the book just pulled me in I couldn't put it down. I really enjoy adventures both in books and in real life, and this book had plenty of adventures to keep me reading. I hope to read the next volume of this book series titled Incident at Hawk's Hill and experience more heart racing adventures that Ben Mac Donald goes on. Hopefully, none too dangerous though.
A GOOD BOOK!.......2000-06-04
This sequal to Incident at Hawk's Hill was a great book. It was nice to find out that Ben MacDonold did well in school. When the familie's adventure starts, they didn't know that it would lead to a friendship with indians. This book was full of incredible suspense and action.

Noncutesy Wildlife.......2007-03-13
This book was one of my alltime favorites as a child (in the late 60's). I grew up on the prairies, so badger holes and fields of waving grasses, as well as neighbors with rifles, were part of everyday life to me. I loved the quiet child who fit in with animals more than humans, and the relationship with the wild mother badger. The world created was more realistic and naturalistic than that portrayed by cheery kids books like the Berensteins and Dr. Seuss. There was tragedy as well as compassion: the mother badger has been caught in a trap, her babies have died of hunger, she is hurting and in pain. These are realistic concerns in nature. Not all is cute fuzzy puppies and loving understanding adults. In the end, the misunderstanding between the child who has been cared for by the badger, and the adults who only see a dangerous wild beast, very much touched my child mind and reflected my experience with adults. I saw injustice in the real world left right and center and it was seldom reflected in children's books. This is one of the deeper children's books I have read, that doesn't shy away from the complexities of life, difficult emotions and depth of feeling. I have reread it recently as an adult, and it still touched me. I highly recommend it.
Great Book!.......2007-01-28
Incident At Hawks Hill is a great book! It may start out a little on the slow side but once you get into the story, it's great! Here is a book report type thing on the book. Ben Macdonald is a shy boy who took a liking to imatating animals' body language. No one believes he has much value exept for his mother, Esther. But not even she can get him to talk and be a normal boy of his age. He is small and light in his weight. Well at least for his age. On one of his jouneys on the prairie he finds a mouse that had just been killed with younglings alive. He knows the baby mice will not survive, so when a badger comes close to him he feeds her the mice, being careful to put them out of their misery quickly. One day he wanders out on the prairie following a praire chicken. By the time he tries to come home for lunch he has found himself lost in the prairie. When he seeks shelter he finds the same badger that he fed wild mice to. Will he make it back to his family. To find out what happens next read the book. Also the other reviews have a very good description. If you read this book I hope you enjoy it. The sequel is also good. Thank You for reading my review.
Encore.......2005-12-20
This little boy was stranded all alone out on the prairie, and the only other helpful being there was a badger. Ben, a 6 year old boy can act like animals as if he was their brother. He picks an animal, then can follow it for hours acting like it, and making noises like it. But one day, when he was mocking a chicken he wandered too far. When he noticed it was about lunch time he turned back to go home, but there wasn't a house in sight. Clouds rolled over and a thunderstorm broke out. Ben raced around for cover. He tripped in a large tunnelish hole in his scurry. Without further ado he wrenched himself in. The next morning, he dug himself through the rest of the tunnel, to find himself in a huge chamber, and to his surprise there was a badger there. Throughout the next two months Ben lived with this badger, acting like it and becoming more like it everyday. When his brother finally found him though, he was reluctant to go home. Later after he realized where he was, (home) his badger came back, who he saved by throwing himself over her before she was shot by his father. The next day while the badger was chilling in the sun by the house, the mean neighbor arrived, thinking that the badger was trespassing, he shot her. When he was about to burry her, he realized that she was still breathing, taking her back in the house, Ben could only hope that she would live. This book was filled with action, fun times, and sad events.
There was for sure a ton of action. Ben was here, Ben was there, where wasn't he? His badger would be trapped, she would escape, and then Ben would get lost. Later Ben would be found, but his badger pops in, what doesn't happen to Ben anyway?
This book had many, many fun times in it. Ben would dance around after discovering that she's breathing (the badger). And then Ben would jump for joy that he lived, because of the wonderful badger.
Even though this book was good, it was very sad. The badger's pups died. Ben almost died from starvation before the badger helped him. The badger's mate dies, and then the badger almost dies herself.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and I think anyone could too, for it was sad, yet happy, and filled with action!

Strange book........2005-12-02
I too was required to read this book in the 6th grade. I couldn't understand how this book could be an award then or now. I'm a huge Eckert fan, but this story just doesn't cut the mustard. For a better Eckert book, check out Johnny Logan
Utterly ridiculous - even for fiction.......2005-08-12
When yours truly was eleven and in Reading class, "Incident" was required reading. This had to be the most ridiculous book that I ever had the displeasure of reading. I mean, the boy is cared for by a badger! Badgers are mean and ornery critters that don't much like people or even their own kind. I did not believe it at eleven, nor do I now.
Also, Eckert certainly didn't need to include some of those descriptions. Was it really necessary to describe a mother badger eating her offspring's excrement? What eleven-year-old wants to read about that?
So, for kids who like to read long descriptive passages about things they really didn't want to know about in the first place: this book's for you.

Tough. Too tough for even the writers, it seems.......2007-05-29
I'll put it out now - I ranked top 5% for the NJ science league for physics I . I've had many experiences with questions aimed at really testing your knowledge, and some of these questions do that. But some of them do it too much, to an extent where the question covers information NOT even in the information they cover in their chapter review sections. Worse, there are many glaring errors, both in their review, in their tests/questions, and their reasoning for their questions. Their questions, like i said, aim to test you, but often it only comes off as confusingly worded. Sometimes, the answer they find uses numbers different than initially stated (one question used 125m/s, but the answer worked off 100m/s.).
To be honest, the only thing going for this book is its name - barrons, without a doubt, is tough. But too tough, even for the writers of the book. If physics is not a strong subject for you, then find another book. You will most likely find it easier to follow

insightfull comment.......2007-01-10
This is a good book a source of information for what comes in the test. But the actual test is more difficult than the practice tests in the book
are you ready to be a professional physicists?.......2006-11-29
ok, basically i took AS physics (british system) and did pretty bad (D.) I decided to take the SAT 2 physics to show what im really made of to the universities, and this book came along. Essentially this book is difficult to comprehend, its probably useful to study it with a tutor. It has so much detail most of it does not come up in the exam, but knowing more than what is needed is better than knowing less. I got 690 which isnt entirely good i.e 800 but its acceptable. I did this without a tutor so one might succeed with a tutor and this book.
Trivial Information Encyclopedia.......2006-05-27
This book has WAY WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAAY to much trivial information. I took advanced placement physics and I never even heard of half of this stuff. It takes a long time to sift through all of the unimportant stuff, and it is even missing some important information. Do yourself a favor, and don't buy this book.
a decent review book.......2005-05-24
While its practice problems may not exactly represent those on the actual test, they get you acquainted with the format and the types of questions you will likely encounter. My suggestion is to use this book to study for the modern physics portion of the exam, which some regular textbooks don't cover. For mechanics and E&M, use your own resources instead, as the barron's study book cover some trivial and unimportant information that will only serve to confuse you. Certainly don't just rely on this book to study off of.
Definitely not recommended.......2004-11-30
The convoluted explanations and completely inaccurate practice tests make this book pretty near worthless. The two weeks I spent going through it were a waste of time. Now, I'm going to buy the PR book and use that for review.

Good for wrapping up........2001-04-28
The more practice tests the better(by the way there is a nice problem explanation area after each test). If you are looking for a book that helps you from the ground up, forget it. Take another physics course at school. I found this book very useful for checking up on my physics.
Not good for people using SI units but was the best avail........2000-03-28
Although the book and the SAT II: Physics test stress on different things, "How to prepare..." is one very good book. The chapters are well developed and explained. The problems are more computational than they must be. I used that book to prepare myself but my country and many others use SI units. As you know, the Physics test also use SI units.
