Le meilleur.......2005-04-18
This is far and away the best guidebook for the Dordogne, Corrèze, Lot and Aveyron areas. Nobody seems to have discovered it, but it covers everything about the areas in a clear and entertaining fashion. It's "the best," even if a bunch of French guys did do it.

Adventures in Egypt.......2006-08-14
Chloe Bryce is the biggest wimp ever. She's such a scaredy-cat that her family has a nickname for her: Chloe, Queen of Denial. But when she goes to Egypt as part of an excavation team, she is determined to be brave and hide her scaredy-cat past. She's convinced it will work, until she sees Connor, a boy from her high school, there. She's convinced he's going to blow her cover. But then she and Connor hit off, and everything seems to be going well. Except for snotty January James digging through her stuff, the cursed bracelet she can't seem to get rid of, and the secret Connor seems to be keeping from her. Will she be able to keep her cool and stay fearless? This book is quite funny as a self-professed "scaredy-cat" finds her place in a strange land. You can also read Jan's side of the story in Eyeliner of the Gods by Katie Maxwell.
Oh, Chloe!.......2005-10-30
It's a while since I read this book, but I found it amusing and also enjoyed the details about archaeology and Egypt. It fitted in well with other books I've read about digs, but the characters, all rather "out there" kept my attention.
Chloe, Queen of Denial.......2005-07-01
Even before being sent to Egypt on an archaeological scholarship, Chloe was known as the queen of denial (de Nile). Away from home and all who would entomb her in that persona, she determines to become a bold young woman, but she didn't have a clue about how much trouble boldness could be. Her first step in that direction was to tame a scorpion and kiss the cutest guy on the dig, the only problem being, she didn't know if she kissed Twin I or Twin II. Then, on a romantic moonlit night, she takes one of the twins into a burial chamber to emerge with a cursed and possibly stolen bracelet. Attempting to rid herself of the artifact proves troublesome. It seems to boomerang back to her no matter what she does to get rid of it or which thorn in her side she tries to plant it on. The guy she likes, neither twin, has some kind of secret he can't share. Worst of all, she knows deep in her heart, she's just a fake, still the queen of denial.
*** Smooch is setting the mark in quality young adult fiction, with this being no exception. Chloe's angst could happen anywhere, it just happens to occur in a fabulous setting that mixes Young Indy with a dash of Survivor and a hint of Nancy Drew. Be sure and check out Katie Maxwell's companion piece, Eyeliner of the Gods. ***

A nice book.......2004-07-24
I read this book after its companion book, Eyeliner of the Gods, by Katie Maxwell. As an adult, I found them both a tiny bit dull, but I think a teenage girl would like this book. The main character, Chloe, is a self-proclaimed chicken. She fears anything new and adventurous. When it is discovered that Chloe is interested in Egyptian culture, her parents decide to send her to Egypt to work as an amateur archaeologist with a group called DigEgypt! It's a month-long program for teens interested in archaeology to get some hands-on experience. Chloe's father thinks it will look great on her college applications, but the thought of going makes Chloe sick. She's afraid of the whole thing, starting with the flight. Since no one will know her in Egypt, Chloe decides to use the month to re-invent herself. She's going to be brave and outgoing. One thing threatens to ruin her plan, though, and that's Connor, an older boy from her school back home. But Connor is under the mistaken impression that Chloe hangs out with the cool crowd back home, and Chloe lets him think that. During the dig, Chloe becomes a leader for the other teens. She even leads a mini-revolt to get them more water for baths and laundry. Chloe and Connor grow close, and there's some nice teen romance. The rest of the plot involves an ancient bracelet from the tombs that Chloe can't seem to get rid of. This is the part of the book that is intertwined with Eyeliner of the Gods, by Katie Maxwell. In that book, Jan James is having a similar problem with a bracelet. Chloe thinks Jan is stuck-up because she's on the restoration team, and Jan thinks Chloe is a shallow, lip gloss-obsessed girl. I recommend reading EOTG first. When you read each book, you get to know Jan and Chloe more intimately and you find they're both wrong about each other. I think teenagers would enjoy both books.
Hilarious Accompaniment to 'Eyeliner of the Gods'.......2004-07-23
Sixteen-year-old high school sophomore, Chloe Bryce, is absolutely dreading going on this archaeological dig in the middle of the desert. You see, it wasn't her who wanted to go, but rather her Father (Mr. this will look good on your college application), who forced her to pack up her lip gloss and head out to the Sahara Desert, where she will spend a month at the Tombs of Tekhen and Tekhnet. Little did she know that she would have to spend the entire month smelling gross (seeing as you only get to bathe every ten days), and taking the kind of crazy risks that only Indiana Jones would take willingly. Sure, Chloe got to kiss the absolute hottest guy on the dig, but she also had to put up with snotty January James digging through her belongings. Obviously, this is going to be one very long month.
Naomi Nash has a wonderful, fresh new writing style that makes the reader feel as if they are reading about their best friend, or even themselves. Her vivid descriptions, and hilarious character commentary keep the story moving quickly, while at the same time forcing the reader to pick up the pace, so as to see what will happen next. Chloe is a brazen, bold character, who easily captures the heart and attention of the reader on the opening page when she defeats a killer scorpion who has slipped into her cot uninvited; and her problems and wonky situations just get better, and more exciting, from there. Overall this is a must-read book for all teenagers. Especially those who enjoyed the prequel EYELINER OF THE GODS, written by Katie Maxwell.

Succinct but only supplementary.......2007-03-17
For those who do not wish to reread a physics textbook, this is your best point by point review book for the AP Physics B exam. I'm not sure how helpful it is for C takers however because the main focus of this short book is on the Physics B. Buy at your own risk.
An Awesome AP Physics review book.......2006-08-26
I took the AP Physics B and AP Physics C Mechanics exams in 2006, and, to say the least, this book was a great help. I'm the kind of student who doesn't take notes in class and usually waits 'till the last minute to study for an exam. Because of this, this review book came in handy when I wanted to review everything for the AP exam. However, this book is probably best for just AP Physics B, since I got a little help from Fundamentals of Physics and Schaum's Engineering Mechanics: Statics and Dynamics or more clarification on more intense topics such as moment of inertia, centroids, moments of forces and moment of momentum/angular momentum, which weren't treated in detail in this book.
That aside, this book helped me get 5s on both exams.
Everything you need to know about physics B but were afraid to ask.......2006-07-15
This book is awesome -I'll admit like the authors I prefer a more conceptual way of doing physics. Since in my opinion if your students don't really understand the ideas behind the math, they aren't physicists but mathematicians. So if you love Paul Hewitt and want to make physics more 'phun' than this book is for you. And if you ever get the chance to take AP physics training from Greg do so. His AP workshop was the best PD I have ever attended.
AP Physics B- NOT physics C.......2006-04-27
I am going to take the first portion of the AP test for physics C on mechanics in May. I am extremely worried that I will do badly because this review book does not include enough physics C material (i.e. advanced rotational motion, dynamics, etc). I just got the book "AP Physics C" by Barron's and it is much better suited for preparing a student to take the physics C exam.
The only thing this has over the Barron's Physics C review book is the information that a "laboratory setup" problem is very common on the AP test; one which you have to detail which materials you will use to measure a specific hypothesis. Although I probably would do fine without this dubious knowledge, it is nice to know.
This guide is extremely mediocre when compared to Barron's Physics C review. The Barron's guide is exhaustingly long for a review book, but that is much better than having a review book that is too pedantic and short. If you are in physics C, avoid this at all costs, and get the Barron's book. If you are in physics B, you should do fine with this review book, but I suspect that the Barron's Physics B is better (because their physics C book is awesome).
edit- I took the Physics C Mechanics test a few days ago, and a great deal of questions were on advanced rotational motion that this book does not cover (there was a free response question on it too). I would have been screwed by using only this book.
Would be 5 stars if only advertised as physics B.......2006-04-17
Last year I used only this book to test out of AP physics B. I got a 5 on the test, so clearly the book did a great job. However, this year in physics C, I am finding that this book is awful, particularly for electromagnetism. It gives no examples using ampere's law and its covering of induced emf is absolutely awful. The circuit examples it gives are too simple and the practice questions never require the calculus derivations (such as ones using Gauss's law) that are covered on the C test. I would use it again any time for physics B, but am truly dissapointed that it is also advertised as a book for physics C.

i likey da booky.......2007-07-16
although the book is pretty long, there were a lot of stories that kept me interested. i always wanted to find out the true version of all my childhood fairy tales like cinderella, the frog prince, rapunzel, and so much more. my favorite of them all had to be "The Youth Who Could Not Shiver and Shake," that story was scary, funny, as well as amusing. overall the book, The Complete Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, was and old time classic that could never be forgotten.
Good 'ol days.......2007-05-23
This book was amazing. It's nice to see the original tales in all their glory, not the wussed out pansy versions of today. Parents, if you TRULY love your children buy them this book now.
great.......2007-05-16
this book is amazing, and no home library should be without it. it's also delivered in great condition.
Simply the BEST.......2007-04-12
These are the stories in their true non-Disneyfied forms. A great collection, that I'd hold up against any other.
Book Description
For almost two centuries, the stories of magic and myth gathered by the Brothers Grimm have been part of the way children—and adults—learn about the vagaries of the real world. Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow-White, Hänsel and Gretel, Little Red-Cap (a.k.a. Little Red Riding Hood), and Briar-Rose (a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty) are only a few of more than 200 enchanting characters included here. Lyrically translated and beautifully illustrated, the tales are presented just as Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm originally set them down: bold, primal, just frightening enough, and endlessly engaging.

excellent.......2007-07-04
"The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales" comprises all of the Grimm brother's dark and eerie tales. I recommend this book to all who enjoy endings that are not always happy.
The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales.......2007-05-13
This is a great book to read. It is long but after you start reading it you will love it. I do
this book is more intended for adults or older children not 5 or 6.......2007-04-26
this book is more intended for adults or older children not 5 or 6 year olds there's no pictures which all children love pictures the stories are old and very boring.the book is not intended for youngters.
Grimm's grim fairy tales.......2007-02-17
I read Grimm's Fairy Tales when I was about 7 years old, if not younger. This was one of my favorite books as a child, and I have not been traumatized by the tales in the least. However, if you have an extremely sensitive child that is easily frightened, perhaps you may want to find a different book. For the average child, I think it is a very good read, and it's fun to see the original versions of stories they most likely are already familiar with such as Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and many more.
unbelievably bad.......2005-12-09
this wasn't the book version i bought, but i bought a very complete version of grimm's fairy tales because i wanted to read fairy tales like i had earlier in my life. now i realize i was probably reading a hans christian anderson book before - translation, SOMEONE WHO COULD WRITE A STORY. the grimm's fairy tales were so bad, i was shocked.. i know these people lived in an earlier century, but the writing was on a third grade level, the morals were non-existent and the stories were just BAD. i know they come from an earlier century, maybe when people were less educated, but that's no excuse for ridiculously bad stories that are written horribly. i don't know what kind of drugs everyone is using to think that grimm's fairy tales are worth reading, but i'm here to tell the truth, they're beyond bad. i would type an example of the worst story i read, but i can't because i threw the book away! i can't wait to get a hans christian anderson book and read some real, interesting fairy tales that were written well.

Lovely artwork, well written..........2007-05-18
I bought this cos I liked the cover. The stories aren't your typical kiddy stories either, they are the darker faerie tales that tell it like it is. I really enjoy owning this book. It's well worth it.
All the classics and then some!.......2006-02-11
This is a fantastic collection - a must have for any home library. I just wish it was hardbound! I really think that's all that needs to be said.
Colorful and Easy to Read .......2006-02-06
Growing up, the only fairy tales that I have ever known were those that have been sanitized -- no wonder I have always thought fairy tales are boring. My reading of this book has completely changed my views! What color, what spice!
Doesn't miss a thing..........2005-09-04
I like this newer edition, which includes stories I've never read before. I read a much older edition every time I visited my grandparents and knew I must get this for my children. There's something less mystical about holding a softcover book, but the stories are still as amazing.
Disney and children publishers usually censor the tales so they have weak and happy endings. The real tales have Cinderella's step sister's eyes pecked out or the evil Queen from Snow White dance in red-hot shoes. The time when the Grimm Brothers wrote down these German tales, was a violent time and the stories properly reflect that.
The only downside, is I'm not fond of the overly religious tales. I know these stories also go with the times, but they're not my favorite. Also, there are a few tales that are a little odd and don't seem to make sense to our modern mindset, but are still interesting.
where is the quality control.......2005-08-17
design of book is very poor--pictures totally unclear and print is crowded making it impossible to focus on the story. The translations are not bad but there is no effort to organize the material and put it in context
Book Description
Enchanting, brimming with the wonder and magic of Once Upon A Time, the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are the special stories of childhood that stay with us throughout our lives. But most Americans know them only secondhand, in adaptations that greatly reduce the tales' power to touch our emotions and intrigue our imaginations. Now, in the most comprehensive translation to date, here are the classic fairy tales as the Bothers Grimm intended them to be--rich, stark, spiced with humor and violence, resonant with the rhythms of folklore and song. Volume II contains 142 unabridged tales, including such bedtime favorites as "Snow White and Rose Red" and "The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes," as well as 32 little-known tales that the Brothers Grimm omitted during the course of their many revisions. These wonderful tales of life, passion, and make-believe appeal not only to children--who unabashedly love them--but to readers of any age.
