Customer Reviews:
Good value for the money.......2000-05-29
If one is on the verge of taking a trip to Poland and other countries in easter Europe to see what is left of the Jewish communities, there is no better preparation than this book. Not only does it provide an overview of what remains in all these eastern European countries, it also gives detailed information of where to look and what to see in each city. While it is an excellent tourist guide, it also provides history. There is also a section setting out where to get more information about each village (and there were so many of them!). This is Ruth Gruber's second book on the subject. It is more comprehensive than the first and is certainly worth the money. If you are planning a heritage trip to find your ancestors, don't leave home without it. I found it invaluable.

Homecoming Cruise for SVU Crew.......2005-03-28
It starts out when Elizabeth,Jessica and Their friends are playing scruples[whatever that is] The next day they invite the friends over for coffee and dessert, and they are contacted by William White's attorney, that he gave the money to Elizabeth. Elizabeth spends the money on a cruise and treats the gang on a cruise for all the trouble William caused. Jason Pierson,Danny Wyatt's best friend since 6th grade is going to get married. Nicole is his fiancee, and Tom Watts dated her in high school. Todd Meets Gin-yun Suh,a pretty asian girl. Lila meets Tisiano's brother,Leonardo.Nina meets the ship's doctor, and falls in love with him. something about pickpockets.Denise and Winston get marooned. Elizabeth,Danny and Isabella catch Tom with Nicole.
IT WAS GREAT.......1999-04-21
LIZ SHOULD JUST HAVE SEX WITH TOM AND STOP WORRYING SO MUCH ABOUT JESSICA. SOMETIMES I JUST WISH THAT LIZ WILL DIE, BUT THEN THE BOOKS WON'T BE EXICTING BECAUSE LIZ IS ALWAYS LIKE HAVING 2 B-FRIENDS. JESSICA IS ALRIGHT ,BUT HER BOYFRIENDS ARE ALWAYS DYING.
This book is excellent........1998-01-31
This book is really good for those interested in Sweet Valley. However, you must remember that once you have read this particular book the series must be continued.
Always wanting to read more..........1997-11-28
The book was alomost perfect. The only part I don't like is the fact that it takes so long for them to finally get on the cruise. I think Elizabeth should get her mind of Jessica and stop being so overprotective of her...she CAN take care of herself, and sh's more...experienced. Anyway, instead of worrying about Jessica, Liz should just go ahead and sleep with Tom! Actually, I kind of hoped that Tom would go with someone else and Liz could go with Todd... But Todd met a girl... And Bruce and Lila are really a hit, until the end of the book... Danny is drivin' Izzy crazy with his ethics... Jason and Nicole are getting married, but it turns out Nicole and Tom used to go out together! Bryan is being a bore... A doctor's hitting on Nina... Winston is drivin' Bryan crazy... And Denise and Win are together and better than ever...

Mistletose Magic is an awesome book!.......1999-07-10
This book is great for fans of Saved by the Bell. It brings back an old character and solves an unresolved relationship concerning this character. This book really shows the meaning of Christmas; about giving and not getting; and about the people you love. One part in particular wit Zack and Kelly towards the end brought tears to my eyes. It's another great book that continues the story the tv show left behind. Beth Cruise has done it again!

Book Description
Designed as a guide for students, The Art of Examining and Interpreting Histologic Preparations: A Student Handbook provides instruction on the examination and interpretation of tissue sections seen under the light microscope. Professor Krause's clear, expert narrative explains how to break down, examine, and interpret each tissue or organ and presents a systematic method that can be used to examine histological preparations. The handbook covers what to look for when making sketches, how to examine histologic preparations, cytology, and the basic tissue types. Each chapter contains space for sketches and labels and encourages the creation of a personalized atlas within the handbook.
Download Description
The examination and interpretation of tissue sections seen under the light microscope in a laboratory setting is an example of student-directed, independent problem solving. The proper reading of a histologic section is an acquired art that can only be developed through practice, close observation and repetition. This laboratory manual was designed as a guide for students to aid them in this endeavor. The laboratory study guide/manual was designed to be used as a supplement to any current textbook and/or atlas of Histology. Learning objectives provide the overall goals for each chapter. The narrative of the study guide explains how to systematically breakdown, examine and interpret each tissue and/or organ encountered, without regard to a given histologic slide from a specific slide collection. Thus, this systematic method can be used to examine and interpret histologic preparations from any collection or of any species. The student is encouraged to sketch, label and create a personalized atlas while using this laboratory manual as a guide. The vocabulary that should be developed and used during the laboratory can be found quickly by going to the bold face type in the appropriate segment of the text. Each chapter contains one or more tables in which key structures used in the identification of a tissue/organ are presented, offering the briefest possible summary of important histologic features. As a final short review, an appendix provides summary tables that compare and contrasts the basic differences of several structures that are somewhat similar in general architecture.

Book Description
Accessible to graduate students and experimental physicists, this volume emphasizes physical arguments and minimizes theoretical formalism. Topics include the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer and Ginzburg-Landau theories, magnetic properties of classic type II superconductors, the Josephson effect, fluctuation effects in classic superconductors, high-temperature superconductors, and nonequilibrium superconductivity. 109 figures. 1996 edition.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent reference book.......2007-04-10
This classic book on superconductivity is excellent for an experienced reader who has already some background in superconductivity. However, for a student trying to learn superconductivity, it says too many things in too brief which may be difficult to follow. While teaching a course I would prefer to follow a book like Superconductivity by Ketterson and Song and refer to this book for selected (special) topics.
Introduction to Superconductivity : Second Edition (Dover Books on Physics).......2005-07-19
I really enjoy reading this book. Thanks for the wonderful service of Amazon
An Amazing Introduction to an Amazing Field.......2004-08-03
The theory of superconductors is an amazingly complicated and rich field, and it can be very daunting to begin studying without a large background in physics. This book does an excellent job telling you the details enough to understand what is going on without giving you so much that it becomes a daunting task to read the book.
Having only read through the first three chapters so far, I give that caveat before continuing.
The first chapter, the author says upfront, is difficult to follow, as it gives a quick outline of every future chapter in the book. I would recommend skimming the first chapter, and then after reading each chapter go back and see if you got the key points illustrated in the first chapter.
The second chapter, a treatment of the London equations, does an excellent job deriving the London equations in the first section, then providing a great deal of application of the equations, as well as outlining the limits of that model of superconductors.
Chapter 3 is where the book gets down to business, as Tinkham gives an introduction to BCS theory. This treatment uses plausibility arguements to justify many of the conclusions or assumptions, but also provides some guidance to the mathematical rigor you might use to really prove the assertions you make. The chapter does not leave you feeling very confused at all, and the section can be read almost straight through.
Although I have not read any further into the book, I can only imagine that it is more of the same. I would strongly recommend this book to anybody interested in learning something about superconductors before trying something more rigorous, such as Schrieffer's classic text on the work.
A basic reference in the field.......2000-03-30
This book provides an excellent comprehensive review of most of the aspects relevant to superconductivity. A strong basis in physics is required to follow it all the way. Otherwise, it is possible to read most of the chapters separately without loosing continuity, so the more complex ones can be put aside if the reader is not interested in deep physics. Many references to relevant authors are given all along the text. It should be a reference available to all the people seriously involved in superconductivity. The only bad point is that it uses CGS unit rather than SI units.

Book Description
Claudine’s House, the first of Colette’s best-selling Claudine novels, is a tender and heartfelt portrayal of childhood and memory. On its first publication, its popularity was such that the Claudine series gave rise to a musical stage play and an entire range of related merchandise. In an idyllic setting of countryside and woods, Colette spent her childhood surrounded by a warm and loving family. Years later, her memories and experiences inspired her to create a series of snapshots of the innocence of provincial life. At once poignant and vividly alive, her recollections portray a magical world, filled with the beauty and the warmth of human relationships—and, above all, the lasting impressions made by her wonderful mother. French novelist Colette is most famous for her portraits of childhood in the Claudine books and for Gigi.

Customer Reviews:
The Final book of the Claudine Novels. . . ........1999-08-12
I was so happy to find this book after thinking that 'Claudine and Annie' of the four Claudine books was the last we could read of her. In this book, Colette expands upon the friendship between Claudine and Annie, and shows what becomes of the latter's timid personality and what stepson Marcel has developed into. But Claudine is the same delightful Claudine, who writes of pain, of friendship, of personal relationships, of nature, of animals freely now, uninhibited by society. For how flowing and relaxing the book reads, there are some major changes to the plot, most noticably in the end. A lovely book for anyone who wants to keep up with Claudine, or who enjoys the later works of Colette.

Get Claudine at School, skip the others.......2004-04-18
These books have been accused of being frivolous. That might be true to an extent, but in Claudine at School this frivolity is transcendant. Colette's style has been described as the treasure of France, and Claudine as a teenager is delightful - imperious, arrogant, sensitive, hedonistic, fearless, aggressive, intelligent. Any frivolity in this novel is necessary, because youth is a frivolous time, and Colette captures the emotions and attitudes of youth beautifully. However... the other novels are very disappointing. I never like my youthful, brave heroines to age, especially when their lives and lifestyles seem to contradict their youthful ideals. Colette settles down to Parisian society, and even though she disregards good manners and is still mouthy and free-spirited, it seems somewhat hollow - after all, she is still just going to tea parties all day long, gossipping and going to the spas with other socialites, so does it matter if she sometimes shocks them?
Claudine at School is a brilliant, funny, and brave book, but the other three are tame in comparison, and yes, I might even go so far as to agree with other reviewers that they are "beach reads". Give me Claudine in the countryside any day, legendary among her classmates for the trouble she causes, sadistically tormenting love-struck classmates, seducing tutors, and enraging teachers.
Classic?.......2001-11-12
I would give this 2.5 stars, were this an option.
First, I should say that this book was an incredibly breezy read; in spite of its over 500 pages, I read it in three days. It's brainless, easy, and more of a "beach read" than a classic.
Admittedly, I am not a fan of "beach reads."
Frankly, I don't understand how this book came to be a classic. I can only figure that Colette's later books, combined with her acting career and essays, made her a classic historical figure, which, in turn, made this book a "classic." On its own, the book is a silly lark. The characters and situations are completely unrealistic, their relationships seem forced, and the hand of Colette's husband, who pushed her to write these books and published them under his name, is painfully evident. Scenes of homosexuality are strained and feel slotted in to drive up the "raciness" of the text, and therefore it's saleability.
I'm glad I read this, if only to know more about the author and to say that I know her work. Would I recommend it? No. Was it a painful read? No. It just wasn't of classic or even literary caliber.
What an unpleasant surprise ..........2001-09-04
Yes the concept of the book, a Victorian novel of a young girl married to a much older man, an unscrupulous publisher no less, led me to dish out the big bucks and buy this book ....
If they said this book was steamy, it certainly was, but, the steam came from me in having to read this mush. I think they should have announced this book as ANTI VICTORIAN literature since sensuality is hinted at but never touched. Thats why I rate this book with one star since you can't have serious relationships and marriage between people that are decades appart in age without some sort of spice. The fact that the man in the book is a scumbucket is even more reason to delvelop this as a reality...
Well yes theres the word .. reality .. which is what this book does not have.
"Experiences of a young girl growing to maturity" is what the covers says ... what it should say is that this is so boring and meant for readers that think watching grass grow is exciting!
Claudine the Great.......2001-04-20
For novels a century old, the first thing that will take the reader by surprise is just how modern the narrator's voice is. Yes, the setting is in stuffy late Victoriana, with trips to Bayreuth and carriages and endless dinner parties, but sweet Claudine, who tells three of the four tales in this compliation, is aware, hilarious, darling and fiercely, fiercely intelligent.
The first novel is perhaps the best -- Claudine a l'ecole -- while the latter ones occasionally lag, esp. the rather dull "Claudine en menage." "Claudine s'en va" (Claudine and Annie) is a strange experiment, with the narrator we've grown to love over three novels suddenly turned into supporting character, but it's quick and entertaining.
And these books are wonderfully decadent. Let the conservatives wail about how debased our times have become, and then read these products of 1900-1903, with their frank journeys into lesbian sex, adultery, drug use -- and view the rather jaundiced way the characters approach such sacred cows as religion and marriage.
Also, this compliation is not complete, as it is missing "La retraite sentimentale", the final Claudine installment.
Collette would get even better, but this is a fine starting point.
A quirky French classic.......2001-02-28
These novels came about in almost an accidental way; Colette was married to a much older, very unsuitable man who owned a publishing house. His method of putting out books was unscrupulous to say the least. Willy Villiers would gather a group of inpecunious writers and re-label their works as his own and then publish them. One day, he suggested to his young wife that she write a few "juicy tales" of her school days. Colette complied, but the work didn't suit Willy. He threw the manuscript in a drawer and forgot all about it. A few years later, he ran across it, read it, and exclaimed that he must have been a complete dolt. The book was published (under his name) and took Paris by storm.
Colette's somewhat (for those times) racy tale of schoolgirls in a provincial town was followed by the story of Colette's move to Paris and her marriage to a much older man. The books not only capture the flavor of the times but also create a very quirky French character, Claudine, who at all times remains true to herself and opinion be damned.

An Adorable Book.......2001-12-06
This is an adorable parody of the story The Night Before Christmas. The illustrations are great, and the book is small enough to fit in your pocket. Not only that, it comes with a little charm that you can put on a bracelet.
This is a must read for any dog lover.
