How Cosmic Orgone Underlies Sex and Cosmogenesis.......2001-08-06
In this late reflection, composed of two books written in the late 1940s and early 1950s, Reich stands back to reflect on the journey that brought him to his mature view of orgonomic functionalism. He details his struggles with Freud on the concept of the death drive and the notion that the primary drives in the unconscious are negative and destructive of order. In rejecting both the death drive (Freud in 1920) and in seeing the core of the unconscious as expressing itself through positive orgonomic streamings, he was able to break free from symptom analysis and talk about the total character structure and its armoring. While symptoms could be isolated by the talking cure, the consequent revelation usually failed to unleash the deep affect that should accompany the traumatic memory. Reich discovered that the center of the painful memory is a blockage in positive genital life-energy. This muscular and emotional blockage is best seen as an armoring in which a counter-cathexis moves back into the psychic economy and stops the healthy outward flow of orgone. From this realization of character and its armoring, Reich moved on to a study of bioenergetic fields and mircoscopic phenomena. In his last years he pushed much further into the inner logic of this general energy called "orgone" and found that it was more basic than any form of electromagnetic energy. In his final extrapolations he created a cosmology of cosmic superimposition in which he argued that a deep energy caused two separate orgone systems to superimpose themselves on each other, often in a wave or spiral pattern. This became his model for the genesis of galaxies. Hence Reich started his career with a reworking of Freud's libido theory and ended up with an orgonomic cosmology that showed (or so he hoped) the role of orgone in all forms of life and growth. He further inverts Freud by taking Freud's negative concept of the "oceanic feeling" and transposes it into a positive cosmic and "true religious" feeling that connects the self to the infinite universe. In a strange way, these two short books represent a kind of transcendentalist religion of nature, even though Reich was deeply suspicious of religion and mysticism (often equating them with patriarchy and the emotional plague). Students of Reich who have not read these later works, partly written in English, miss some of the poetic power and visionary quality of this radical naturalist and psychoanalyst.

Finally, a young Adult book that actually depicts real life!.......1998-12-08
I read this book about 5 or 6 years ago, and it made me so sad to think that relationships could actually end up this way. I went back and read it again after I broke up with my non monogamous and inadequate boyfriend, and I laughed at the reality of the story. I hate to sound cynical, but do think that this book prepares girls for the inevitable sexual relationship disappointments in their future. It's a great life manual for girls, along with Judy Blume's "Forever... "
excellent.......1998-12-05
I really like Norma Klein's approach to young adult topics. Her style was really progressive for the late 80's. She does not condescend to teens as if the issue of sex is nonexistent, or pontificate in any way. She is accepting of the differences, racial, familial, and individual, that characterize young adults. I also really like the way the characters never fixate on their appearances. They are self confident while maintaining a sense of reality. That is a great message for kids, and it does not come off at all like a sermon. This book treats the issues of being a young adult with dignity.
Realistic........1998-08-24
This was one of the greatest books I have ever read. Norma Klein's books are so honest and open. All of her books are very realistic because she understands that not everyone's life is perfect. Her books don't make you feel bad that your life is not as good as the characters. I find the people in her books, especially Jody in "It's OK if You Don't Love Me" very easy to relate to. This book is an excellent prtrayal of young love and the confusion that goes along with sex. The first time I read this I was 12. I definetly recommend this to mature preteens as well as older teens.
A story of young love's complications........1997-03-15
This book is about Jody and Lyle, a young couple dating.
The both have a love for tennis and often rally together. Their
relationship becomes complicated when they start talking
about having sex. Lyle is an eighteen year old virgin, and
Jody is a semi-experienced young woman. Their relationship
is very open and a good role model for teens

Book Description
This volume provides a thought-provoking, interdisciplinary perspective on the empirical and analytic study of body composition and the techniques used for measuring body components, such as fat, water, muscle, and bone mass and density. The nature of regional differences, developmental changes, pathological abnormalities, and the impact of heredity and environment in shaping body composition are discussed in the context of human evolution. For instance, the author looks at how growth, aging, and exposure to heat, cold, excess or lack of nourishment modify normal body composition.

Applied Body Composition Assessment
ASIN: 0521461790 |
Book Description
Body composition studies are used in a wide variety of fields including human biology, medicine, sports science, epidemiology, and nutrition. They may be used to predict later body composition from childhood measures, to detect bone density loss in the elderly or in athletes under heavy training, to assess obesity in children and adults, and to investigate the likely effects of malnutrition. Recently, there has been a resurgence of interest in the field of body composition, together with rapid development of a whole new range of assessment techniques. In this volume, new and old techniques are evaluated and future developments and aims are discussed. The chapters assume little background knowledge, and will therefore be valuable to nutritionists, biologists, clinicians and medical physicists alike.

A Life of the Mind.......2007-04-08
Peter Ibbetson is one of the strangest, yet most remarkable books I have ever read. I read it because I had seen the old black and white film version, which I have to admit is more interesting than the book in terms of plot since it takes a few liberties with the text to move the story along. However, the book is definitely worth reading.
The book begins by describing Peter's early life in France in the 1840s, the glorious world of his childhood. The first half of the book reads like a regional history or travel tract about the town where he lived, and all the activities of his childhood, especially his friendship with Mary, a friendship which becomes remarkable later. Due to family tragedies, Peter and Mary's friendship comes to an end when they both have to leave their little town. When they meet years later, Peter is an architect and Mary has become the Duchess of Towers. This change in their status does not affect the friendship. As soon as they recognize each other, they embark on a long friendship in their minds.
The glamour of the novel is this friendship and how they create it. Peter ends up in prison for killing his uncle, who has acted the villain toward him. Mary, because of her position, must travel about a great deal, yet she and Peter are always together in their dreams. It is difficult to explain the situation if the reader does not read the book, but in their dreams, they are able to meet and recreate their past childhood world in France, revisiting their old haunts and even to see themselves as children. Part of this amazing power they possess may be the result of sharing mutual great-great-grandparents as they discover. More specifically, they are pioneers in the life of the mind. When they learn they are related, they are able to go back and recreate in their minds the scenes of their mutual ancestors, first in the eighteenth century, and then soon farther back to medieval times, even back to glimpses of the caveman world. This extraordinary journey of theirs is what makes the book fascinating.
"Peter Ibbetson" is largely forgotten today, and Du Maurier overshadowed by his daughter, Daphne, famous for the novel "Rebecca", yet I think Du Maurier more fascinating because of his interest in exploring the human mind. He is better known for "Trilby" with its villain Svengali, a novel that explores hypnotism. But "Peter Ibbetson" is the novel that really was greatly ahead of its time. Long before Einstein, or "The Secret", Abraham-Hicks and the Law of Attraction, Du Maurier was asking questions in the novel about the concept of time, quantum physics, cellular memory, and evolution. The reader is urged to forge through the overly descriptive first half of the book to the interesting philosophies of the last. The book can hardly be called a novel, there is little plot to it, but it is a book far ahead of its time, and one that would be of interest to many open-minded and spiritual people today.
