A fine introduction to a little known world.......2002-07-13
The kelp beds along the central and northern California coasts are a vast botanical and zoological wonderland known by few, and probably appreciated by less, given their history of commercial exploitation. Kelp are some of the largest plants in the world.
The book begins with an examination of kelp itself, its reproductive and growth processes, and its role in ceating a unique, delicate ecosystem. Attention is then turned to marvelous fishes, mollusks, birds, and and mammals, including the once nearly extinct california sea otter. The book also addresses the many uses of kelp, and the nuances of its harvesting and its long overdue conservation.
The book is very well organized and written. The four-color photographs are a delight, as well as being helpful in understanding the text.
I was fortunate enough to buy this book at the Monterey Aquarium, which must be visited, before actually seeing the kelp in the wild. I found that reading the book was a boon in appreciating and understanding what I was looking at, particularly in drives along the Big Sur coast and in Point Lobos State Park, which is worth at least one full day on its own. If you are going to this part of the world, or if you live there, this book is a must. Very highly recommended.

A Pleasure.......2007-02-09
This Insider's Guide to Columbus is GREAT! It's smart, focused, informative, funny, and a very enjoyable read. I started scanning it one evening and couldn't put it down. The first city guide I can imagine recommending for pleasure reading. Bravo!
A very comprehensive guide that leaves little to be desired.......2006-03-18
As a native born Columbusite I have to say, this book exceeded my expectations and was my first introduction to the Insider's Guide series. This guide was very well written and helpful to those planning to move here or even just visiting. Even if you know the city very well, you'll most likely not be let down by some glaring omissions which have so far been demonstrated in other reviews to be non-existent. What you may find are some interesting things that some residents didn't even know about. This book does a wonderful job of exposing the reader to what this city has to offer. I have only one gripe with this book. Please, please, please, don't put "Ohio" after Columbus on the cover/side for the next edition. I'm certain we won't have to worry about Columbus, GA warranting its own guidebook anytime soon. (Not to put down people from that Columbus, but it's a smallish medium size city like Dayton)
Positive review by a thankful grad student.......2006-03-02
As a relatively new Ohio State doctoral student (new to Columbus), I am relieved to have access to a guidebook about the city. It is difficult feeling your way around a new territory- especially when many of your friends and colleagues are in the same boat. One of the first things I looked for was information about parks and bike trails- and was pleased with the overall information. A previous review states the absence of Inniswood Gardens, but I beg to differ- it's one of my favroite retreats and I was very excited to see it included. In fact, there are five pages dedicated to the city's MetroParks (pgs. 151-156) and there is even a helpful insiders' tip about Inniswood (pg 154). One thing I did notice, is the index does not include several places that are discussed in the book- such as Inniswood. The indexer seems to have overlooked quite a few things, but it's not to say it isn't in there. As a critical, but conscientious reader I suggest not expecting the index to be a definitive listing of everything in this guide. What I like particularly is how the author manages to spread information across the various chapters. Random restaurants, stores and history pop up in unrelated chapters, keeping it interesting for those of us who do read the book. Like someone else wrote earlier- this isn't a boring book of lists and it isn't arranged as such. The Insiders Guide to Columbus is receiving this positive review by a very thankful grad student. --DJM
Much needed book but needs a second edition.......2006-03-01
Has some great information and much needed for Columbus, but the book is filled with omissions. Was so amazed that her book does not reference Inniswood Metro Gardens nor any of the other 14 Metro Parks. No mention of the American Whistle Corp., nor Anthony-Thomas Candy Shoppes with tours, nor the State of Ohio Library located just off the Ohio State Campus, nor Palatines to America, plus many others.
She certainly needs to create a second edition.
Insightful, breezy and refreshing .......2006-02-25
I have used the Insiders' Guides for years now and one of the best things about this series is the amount of information packed between covers. They are fantastic tools for people who are relocating, or like me, work long-term in different cities on a regular basis. I received this guide last week from a friend who was kind enough to have it signed by the author- very thoughtful, indeed. I'm learning a lot about Columbus and can't wait to start trying some of the suggested restaurants. Kudos to Ms. Kelley for compiling such an amazing amount of information for us newbies. She brings a light-hearted and insightful writing style to what could be a boring book of lists! This is one of the best-written Insiders' Guides that I have used.

Book Description
Columbus, Ohio, the largest city in Ohio, has, since its founding in 1812, been home to many impressive architectural landmarks. The AIA Guide to Columbus, produced by the Columbus Architecture Foundation, highlights the significant buildings and neighborhoods in the Columbus metropolitan area. Skillfully blending architectural interest with historic significance, The AIA Guide to Columbus documents approximately 160 buildings and building groups and is organized geographically. Each chapter provides an opportunity to explore a special area of Columbus’s built environment. The Columbus Architecture Foundation has been affiliated with the American Institute of Architects(AIA), Columbus Chapter, for more than thirty years. Its first book project was Architecture Columbus, published in 1976. This new companion volume updates coverage of the buildings and provides a portable, accessible guide to the city’s architectual history. The AIA Guide to Columbus identifies buildings designated as historic and those that have won awards, and includes information on architectural styles, excellent photographs, maps, a glossary, and an index. The focus is on easy touring, whether the reader is walking or driving. Students, visitors, and residents with a penchant for knowing more about their city will enjoy discovering the rich heritage of Columbus’s downtown, special districts, and neighborhoods.“

not the best.......2005-08-04
This book is really easy at straying off the topic. The writing is choppy, unsmooth, and tries and fails to keep the book from being put down. Reading this gave me a headache and I had to put the book down every 5-7 pages or else my head'll blow. The story plot is really bad and the romance on a scale of 1-10 (1-bad 10-good) is probably a 3. This book is probably the worst Smoochya book ever. If you want to read much much better Smoochya books, find the author KATIE MAXWELL.
Didn't hold my interest.......2005-03-29
This book started out okay. Then it just got more farfetched. Beaner O'Brian is trying to write a paper on the opposite sex. Her dad is a talent scout on some teen music show. She meets one of the guys from one of her fave boy bands. He kisses her on national television.
This didn't seem realistic at all! The writing was tedious, farfetched, and didn't hold my interest. In no way did I feel compelled to go on reading, but I forced myself to. However, I got so frustrated with this novel that, about half way through, I gave up.
I just could not read it. The plot is transparent and farcical. The characters are over-exaggerated and unconvincing.
Usually I am not the type of person to bash books, as I love reading. I am a big fan of Young Adult fiction and especially the Smooch books. But this is just one book I could do without.
Only read this book if you are completely bored and have nothing else to do. Occupy your time with something else. Needless to say, I did not think this was a good contribution to the Smooch books.
Maybe I am just outgrowing these kinds of books - after all, Beaner is 2 years younger than me. Maybe these books are really intended for a younger audience. Yet I have read other Smooch books that did hold my interest, despite the fact that some of the main characters were younger than me.
I truly resent the time that I spent trying to read this book. I could have been reading a good classic or something. Well, now I know not to read this book again. I have given it a lot of chances and it just didn't work out for me.
If you are really curious about this book, get it at the library. Sorry for this utterly bad review, but I'm quite angry at the way this book turned out.
Third Naomi Nash novel - waiting for #4!.......2005-01-13
My 14-year old daughter LOVED You are SO Cursed and Chloe, Queen of Denial so I put Naomi on my "auto buy" list for her.
She received Beaner O'Brian's Absolutely Ginormous Guidebook to Guys as an early Christmas gift and loved it! Her Christmas list also contained the following line: "Any Naomi Nash books I don't have."
I've also read all three of Naomi's books and will definitely buy them in the future for my daughter! You can find the details about this book from other reviewers, I just wanted to share that one 14 yeard old girl AND her mother are now "auto-buying" Naomi's books in the Smooch line!
OK at best.......2004-12-31
This book was OK. Definately not the best in the Smooch line. I felt that the plot was kind of thin in places and you never really related to the main character. I mean, how many people get kissed on national television? I think this is one book that you should skip.

Occult Ether Physics: Tesla's Hidden Space Propulsion System and the Conspiracy to Conceal It (2nd Revised Edition)
ASIN: 1931882428 |
Book Description
Explains cold-current, free-energy devices with today's science. Using the 1920's inventions of T. Henry Moray as a starting point, the book explores a wide range of popular science and frontier physics. Free-energy technology could solve today's energy crisis and cold-current physics will soon make any other technology obsolete!
Customer Reviews:
Brilliant.......2005-12-21
Zero Point Energy is real. The mathematics of quantum mechanics not only suggests it, it demands it. Furthermore, experimental evidence such as the Casimir Effect, the Lamb Shift, and the observed fact that liquid helium at practical absolute zero still will not freeze, confirm its existence. Additionally, in the last 100 years several experimenters have apparently succeeded in building successful "free energy" devices that extract their energy from the zero point field.
Moray B. King has written three books, including this one, that essentially explain in relatively easy to understand terms what ZPE is and how it might be harnessed. In this book, he brilliantly makes the connection that the half-dozen or so well-known "free energy" devices all worked on the same principle using a pulsed glow plasma to cohere to the zero point field.
King also mentions the brutal and ruthless suppression of these devices by the "powers that be", although he doesn't understand the exact nature of this power; in this regard he is in the same boat as the experimenters who built the devices. They naively believed that they could patent their device and release the technology to the world. However, this power, which exists far above our governments, and who I sometimes refer to as the "forbidden technology police", has been highly effective at seizing patents on "national security" grounds, destroying the devices, ransacking laboratories, ruining finances, and threatening or even killing these experimenters.
However, suppression of the truth can only occur temporarily, and when it finally comes out, it explodes in the faces of those who attempted to suppress it. The Internet will be the death knell for this control group. I encourage all qualified researchers to build these devices and share their exact plans to replicate them on the Internet, since they won't be given patents anyway. This will saturate our planet with the knowledge of these devices to the point that any further attempts at suppression will fail.
An education in New Energy Technologies.......2005-11-05
This book not only brings the little-known and amazing discoveries and inventions of T. Henry Moray to the reader's attention, but introduces New Energy developments up to the present day. Dr. King also shows how the technologies behind Moray's inventions are resurfacing in the hands of contemporary scientists and validating Moray's findings. Dr. King also keeps our interest up by exploring the science behind the inventions, weaving the strands into a plausable theory of how all this untapped, "sea of energy" can be accessed for an almost cost and pollution free source of electricity and power so badly needed by the world. My only disappointment was that the book wasn't at least three times the length as there is so much of interest to anyone with a desire to know from where our future supply of energy and possibly the salvation of our planet may appear!
This is a slide presentation pretending it's a book.......2005-09-29
I have never seen anything like this before. A slide presentation (with minimal notes) is all this is, folks. Very disappointing. I wouldn't have minded if there had been some useful information, but I imagine that King supplies the "missing meat" when he gives his slide presentation. As it stands, this book leaves me as in the dark as I began. I was hoping for some illumination (puns intended) on the workings of the energy machine. Perhaps the sparse notes included here are sufficient to an electrical engineer. To a mere lay person, the book is opaque. Too bad! I hate to write a negative review like this, since I really do support the man's work and this type of research. It's just unfortunate that this book does little to advance the cause of free energy research, in my opinion. I'm returning it.

Book Description
In this innovative study, Carol Thysell provides an in-depth examination of Marguerite de Navarre's Heptameron. While this collection of tales is traditionally considered to be secular in nature, Thysell argues that Marguerite de Navarre used it as a vehicle for a constructive theological program.
